Rainbow's Curse

Chapter Two: The Morning After

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Rainbow Dash woke up with a groan, looking around to take in her surroundings. She had planned on flying home last night, but the dress Rarity had lent her wouldn't stay on no matter how much they tried. Every time they managed to get something in place covering up the diaper, it would slip off a second later. It didn't matter how secure it should have been, the dress just wouldn't stay in place. Twilight's no-clothes curse was becoming a huge pain in the butt,

So, instead, she had spent the night in the guest room, making sure the blinds were closed so nopony would have a chance at seeing inside. It hadn't been as comfortable as her bed at home, but no mattress could ever match a cloud.

To make the morning more of a nuisance, Rainbow Dash once again had urgent need of the bathroom. She could always get changed by Twilight, but that didn't mean Rainbow Dash was looking forward to any more wet diapers. On the other hoof, though, there was no use trying to delay the inevitable. Twilight had said they would be doing research today, and they both needed lots of rest to give it their full attention. If Rainbow was going to have to use the diaper, she might as well use it straight away and get it over with.

So, suckling her pacifier, Rainbow Dash rolled out of bed and got to her hooves. Telling herself it was okay to intentionally have an accident, she-

Pacifier? Rainbow Dash crossed her eyes, finally noticing the pacifier she was suckling on. She had been suckling the thing at least since she woke up, and a little drool was trickling down her chin. "Ew!" She mumbled, wiping her face off with a hoof and trying to spit out the pacifier. Even when she grabbed it with a hoof to pull it out, though, it stayed firmly in place.

"Twawa!" She yelled, lisping. The pacifier made it difficult to speak at all, since her mouth kept wanting to suckle on it even when she tried to yell. Worse, even after she managed to form words, she couldn't get them to sound right. Her voice lisping like a filly still learning to speak, she called, "Twiwy! Hewp! Daw's a pathaf- Patha- pash... Mmm!" Her speech devolved into mumbles as she resumed suckling the pacifier, each word taking more effort than the last. She stopped calling for a second and ran to the guest bathroom to get a look in the mirror. The mouthguard, like the diaper, had Rainbow's cutie mark drawn on it, and the rest of it was a pale blue matching her coat. Freaking fan-tastic.

Focusing again on pronouncing her words with as much clarity as possible, she shouted once more for help. "TWI-WIGHT!" She yelled.

After a few painfully long seconds, Rainbow Dash finally heard hoofsteps coming downstairs. She ran to the door to get to Twilight as fast as possible, hurrying into the library itself. Instead of Twilight, though, she saw Pinkie Pie coming down the stairs, humming a tune and wearing a wide smile. Her eyes went wide and she turned to run back into her room, but it was too late.

"Hiya Dashie!" Pinkie Pie said, grinning even more at the sight of her friend, seeming oblivious to Rainbow's diaper and pacifier. "What're you up to?"

Rainbow was so surprised at Pinkie's lack of reaction that she froze in her tracks, turning to give her a puzzled look. "P'nka Pa?" She asked, even more surprised when she saw Twilight walking down the stairs behind Pinkie.

"Good morning, Rainbow Dash!" Twilight said. "Don't worry about Pinkie Pie, she knows what happened."

"'Ou TOWD ha'?" Rainbow lisped, incredulous. She hadn't wanted anypony to find out, that's why she had bothered to spend the night instead of flying home to sleep in her own house. What was Twilight thinking?

"I'm sorry, but I needed her help to-" Twilight seemed to finally notice the elephant in the room. "Uh, Rainbow, when did you get the pacifier?"

"Ooh! Ooh! I know this one!" Pinkie Pie said, waving a hoof in the air like a schoolfilly wanting to answer a question. "You were sucking on it when you woke up and you couldn't spit it out, right?"

"Uh, yeaw..." Rainbow said. "Hah- Mm, How da... How. Did. You. Know?" She asked, taking a couple seconds with each word to say it right.

Rolling her eyes, Pinkie said, "Well, duh! It's not like you're gonna go out and buy one, so I figured it's just like the diaper thing! I betcha Twilight could take it out with her magic in a jiffy!"

Rainbow looked to Twilight for an explanation, and the unicorn cleared her throat. "I needed a research assistant today," she explained, "So I thought Pinkie Pie could help. I know she's a little... Pinkie Pie, but she still remembers how all my equipment works from when I tried to figure out how her Pinkie sense works. We weren't getting anywhere looking through my spellbooks, after all. I thought some modern scientific research might be a little more effective."

Rainbow Dash cleared her throat, unimpressed. It was all egghead stuff, one way or another. Gesturing towards her mouth with a hoof, Twilight remembered why Rainbow had been calling for her in the first place. "Um, here, let me get that for you..." She said, her horn starting to glow. A second later the pacifier tumbled out of Rainbow Dash's mouth, floating to the table and landing with a little magical glow. "We'll have to figure out how to deal with that, too," she said, making a mental note. "Are you hungry? Spike made hay bacon before he went to Rarity's. Apparently, there was a 'Glitter emergency' and she needed help catching up on some work."

Rainbow Dash moved her jaw a bit, relieved to be free of the pacifier. Even so, though, she felt a tiny urge to pop it back in her mouth. It wasn't that she like the idea of suckling the pacifier, that was SO uncool, but without it her mouth felt parched and dry. "Uh, yeah," she said, agreeing to breakfast after a second. She was pretty hungry, after all, she hadn't had much to eat yesterday except a snack for dinner while they were reading. Still, there was one other problem..."Twilight, uh, I kinda need to pee," she said, blushing. "Could you, er... Change my diaper before we eat?" She looked down at her hooves and blushed, thankful that Pinkie Pie didn't laugh.

"Well, actually..." Twilight said, a bit sheepish, "If we want to get this figured out, I'm going to need you to... Well, to use your diapers while we've got you under observation so we can figure out how the curse works. Can you hold it for a little bit?"

"I guess so," Rainbow Dash said, crossing her legs. "As long as breakfast doesn't take too long..."

"Great!" Twilight said, obviously excited at the prospect of the scientific research ahead of them. Her horn glowed as she levitated in the hash browns and a pitcher of milk, along with plates and glasses to go with the food. Setting everything on a table, she pulled out a few chairs for Rainbow and Pinkie Pie to sit down.

"Ooh, my favorite!" Pinkie declared, sitting down at her plate and digging in, displaying the table manners you'd expect from an unruly filly. Rainbow and Twilight exchanged a glance, but didn't comment.

Sitting down with her legs crossed, Rainbow Dash picked up her fork and tried to take a bite. Just as she was about to put the food in her mouth, though, the hay bacon tumbled off the fork and landed back on her plate. Frowning, Rainbow tried again, with no more success. Reaching to take a drink of milk, then, the glass slipped from her hooves just as she was taking a drink, spilling milk all over the table and Rainbow herself. This caught Twilight's attention, and within moments she had a towel levitated over and was cleaning up the mess. Rainbow was a little unsettled, if the curse wouldn't let her eat or drink, she'd have bigger problems than diaper changes soon. She wasn't about to cry over spilled milk, but the thought of starving was a little scary.

"Rainbow Dash," Twilight scolded, wiping up the table and picking the glass up off the floor. "I know you're in a hurry to eat, but even you shouldn't be acting this clumsy."

"It's not me!" Rainbow insisted, shaking her head. "Every time I try and take a bite, the food just goes away! Now this stupid curse is gonna make me starve to death!"

Pinkie Pie looked up from her food to grab a napkin, her plate already clean. "Don't be silly, Dashie! You won't starve!" she said.

"I'm not being silly!" Rainbow Dash said, getting exasperated.

Twilight agreed with Rainbow, giving Pinkie Pie a confused look. "She's right, Pinkie. If the curse really keeps her from eating anything, she will starve." Looking back at Rainbow, she carefully added, "But it won't come to that, we'll figure out a counterspell before then."

"No no no!" Pinkie insisted, shaking her head as though it were obvious. "I betcha the curse just doesn't let her eat grown-up pony food, duh!"

"What?" Rainbow Dash said, running over the idea. It made sense, judging by how everything else had been going for her, but she still hoped it wasn't true. "Twilight, please tell me Pinkie's wrong here..."

Twilight considered it for a moment and shook her head. "It makes sense," she said. "I mean, we'll have to try it, but it makes more sense than the curse just making you go hungry. I think whoever did this just wanted to embarrass you, or else they wouldn't make it possible to change you or anything. Pinkie, could you run to Sugarcube Corner and borrow a bottle and some filly food from Mrs. Cake? Make sure not to tell her about the curse, okay?"

"Okay!" Pinkie Pie said, hopping to her hooves and galloping off without so much as a goodbye.

Like last night, Rainbow Dash had to protest. "How come you can't just magic those here, too?" she asked, as Pinkie Pie bolted out the door.

"I... could," Twilight admitted. "But I thought you might want to get your diaper changed with a little more privacy. I do need Pinkie's help with some experiments, but changing a wet diaper isn't something that requires a lab assistant. I can get all the notes I need for now without her help."

"Oh," Rainbow Dash said, having not considered that. She thought Pinkie Pie was a great friend, but it was awkward enough with just one friend having to clean her up, without an audience. "Thanks."

Twilight nodded, levitating over her diaper bag and laying the supplies out on the floor, along with a notebook. "Now, there are a few things I would like to try here, to figure out exactly how this curse works," she said. Hovering the notebook in front of her face, she produced a quill from somewhere and continued. "Please lie down on the changing pad. Now, on a scale of one to ten, precisely how bad do you need to use the bathroom?"

Rainbow sat down on the changing pad, lying back. "Uh, seven I guess," she said.

Twilight nodded, making a note. "Could you please specify, this is how badly you need to pee?"

"Uh, yeah," Rainbow said. "Can we just get this over with already?"

Shaking her head, Twilight said, "Not if you want to get this figured out. I need as much data as I can get to decipher how this curse works. Now, you said that was how much you had to pee. Do you need to go number two as well?"

"No," Rainbow said. "I don't get it. How will knowing how bad I gotta to pee help you cast a counter-spell?"

"Everything helps," Twilight insisted, as she started casting another spell. A magical glow appeared around Rainbow's diaper, as though Twilight were trying to remove it. Just like when Rarity tried that, though, Rainbow just felt her need to use the diaper grow. Twilight made another note. "Interesting... Now, again, how badly do you need to use the bathroom? Be as specific as you can."

"Uh, eight or nine," Rainbow said, struggling to keep her diaper dry for the sake of Twilight's experiment. "Can I please go? This is super uncomfortable."

"Just a moment," Twilight said, her horn glowing again as she repeated the last spell. Rainbow Dash whimpered from discomfort, and lost the fight with her bladder. She flooded the diaper, soaking it full. It was less humiliating than last time, since Twilight already knew what was about to happen. Rainbow was more embarrassed at how good it felt to stop holding it and go than she was at actually using the diaper.

Twilight noted this with clinical professionalism. "This is extremely interesting," she said, making more notes. "So, it's possible to induce accidents by trying to remove your diaper. I can see that used to induce embarrassing situations if anypony was aware of the situation," she commented. "Really, Rainbow Dash, all signs are pointing to this being some kind of prank."

"A prank?" Rainbow asked, sounding a little angry. Sitting up, she said, "In what universe is this funny? Who would possibly think this was a good prank?"

"Calm down, Rainbow," Twilight chided. "Now, would you please lie down again so I can get you changed?"

Rainbow Dash frowned but complied, lying back down and groaning. "This is so stupid!"

"Rainbow, I'm trying to help you," Twilight reminded her with a sigh. "Please stop complaining, okay?"

"Fine," Rainbow Dash said, lying back and sighing. Rainbow didn't know why Twilight was complaining, she wasn't the one who was stuck wearing a wet diaper.

Twilight waited for a moment to make sure that Rainbow Dash had stopped making a fuss, and then got to work. It hadn't gotten any less awkward cleaning up Rainbow's privates, but Twilight at least got the job done more quickly this time. Untaping Rainbow's old diaper and throwing it in the trash, Twilight wiped Rainbow up in a few seconds. Sliding a fresh diaper in place beneath her butt, tucking her tail through the small hole in the seat of the diaper. Folding it over Dash, made sure it was in place but didn't secure the tapes. For some reason, now that she was dry, Rainbow Dash's flanks felt a little uncomfortable. Just like the pacifier, she didn't like wearing the wet diaper, but now that it was gone her hindquarters felt uncomfortable. It was a sort of pins-and-needles feeling, like she had sat too long and her butt had fallen asleep.

Twilight's horn stopped glowing, and she took a step back. "I'm going to leave the room for a second," she explained. "I want to see if your diaper will change back to being wet everything in place but the tapes undone."

"Okay..." Rainbow Dash said, sitting up and rubbing the seat of her diaper with her forehooves, trying to deal with the discomfort. She wasn't sure which was worse, the embarrassment of wearing a wet diaper or the discomfort of the dry one.

"Now, to be clear," Twilight added, raising her notebook and quill once again. "You currently don't need to use your diaper at all, right?"

"Yeah, right," Rainbow agreed. "Uh, Twilight?" She asked, deciding she should tell her about the newfound discomfort.

"Yes?" Twilight asked, jotting down a couple notes and setting aside her quill.

"Uh, my butt feels weird," Rainbow said, her cheeks turning red as she blushed again. "After you changed the diaper it started to feel kind of numb, I guess."

"Hmm..." Twilight said, making another note. "That's strange. And you haven't felt anything like this until now?"

"No," Rainbow Dash confirmed, before thinking to add, "Well... After you took out the Pacifier my mouth's been kind of dry, but that's about it. I figured I was just thirsty or something."

Jotting down one more note, Twilight said, "That is odd. I'm sure we'll get it all sorted out once we figure out how the rest of this curse works, though," She promised. "Just wait here, okay? I'm just going to walk to the other room and come right back."

"Yeah, yeah." Rainbow rolled her eyes and sitting cross-legged as she waited on Twilight.

Twilight walked towards the closest available room, the kitchen, closing the door behind her. The second that she shut the door, Rainbow felt the tapes snap into place on the diaper. The padding grew soggy and warm, the pins-and-needles experience went away, and she felt a minor pressure on her bowels that she knew she hadn't felt a moment ago. As a small bonus, the dry-mouth sensation disappeared too. Rainbow realized after a second, though, that it was gone because the pacifier had reappeared between her lips. Overall she felt far more comfortable, to her annoyance.

Opening the door and trotting back in, Twilight quickly noticed the pacifier. "I didn't see that coming," she said, noting it down. "Is your diaper still dry?"

Rainbow shook her head, and Twilight remembered to remove the pacifier for her. "Thanks," Rainbow said, though her mouth felt dry again almost immediately. "So, can you actually change me now?"

"First, I have one more thing I want to try," Twilight said. "Okay?"

"Fine..." Rainbow said, snorting in annoyance as she lay back on the mat.

Twilight retrieved her notebook and quill. "Now, do you need to use your diaper any more than you did before I left?"

"A little," Rainbow admitted. "It's not that bad, though."

Making a note of this, Twilight set down her notebook and repeated the changing process from earlier. She had gotten faster than ever, and in ten seconds flat  she had Rainbow Dash wiped, powdered, and diapered. She only did one tape on each side of the diaper, though, leaving two tapes total undone. The numbness returned, worse than ever, and when Rainbow sat up she tugged at the back of the diaper to try and make it feel a little better.

Twilight smiled at a job well done and said, "Okay, now I'll just-"

"Walk to the other room, yeah, yeah," Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. Twilight sighed, walking back to the kitchen.

Same as before, the last two tapes snapped in place, Dash's diaper grew soggy, and the pacifier returned to her mouth. Again, other than a slight feeling of dampness, her flanks no longer felt numb, and her mouth no longer felt dry. There was a definite need to mess her diaper by then, but she still felt like she could hold it for a while.

Twilight came back in, and went down the checklist. She took out Rainbow's pacifier, checked if she was wet, and asked how badly she needed to go.

"This is all starting to make sense," Twilight said, as she jotted down the last of her notes. "Do you, well, want to use your diaper again before I change you?" she asked.

"Well..." Rainbow Dash blushed as she thought about it, but considering that Twilight already knew, it was the best option. "Could I, uh, not get changed right away?"

"What?" Twilight asked, surprised. "Why not?"

"Well, it just feels super weird when it's not wet," Rainbow explained, adding quickly, "Because of the curse. Being a little wet is fine next to feeling all numb and stuff."

Considering it, Twilight nodded. "I suppose that's okay," she said. "But not for too long. I don't know how soon we can find a counterspell, and I don't think you want diaper rash."

Rainbow Dash agreed, glad that Twilight wasn't making a big deal out of this. "Thanks," she said, getting back to her hooves. "So... Now what?"

"I guess... We wait on Pinkie Pie," Twilight said. "I don't want to start any more experiments without her, and anyways I bet you're feeling pretty hungry by now."

Rainbow's stomach grumbled, and she nodded. "Yeah... I really hope that her plan works. Any idea how long she'll be?"

Twilight shrugged, sitting back down at the table and looking over her notes. "Knowing Pinkie Pie, she'll probably show up as soon as we finish talking."

"Finish talking about what?" Pinkie Pie asked, hopping through the door. She stopped in her tracks upon coming inside, looking surprised. Leaning to Twilight and talking in a painfully obvious stage whisper, she said, "Uh, Twilight! I think Ainbow-ray Ash-day had an accident-way in her iaper-day!"

"I know pig-latin, Pinkie," Rainbow Dash said, rolling her eyes.

"Shh, I'm talking in code!" Pinkie told Rainbow, turning back to Twilight.

Twilight smirked, telling Pinkie, "I know she's wet, Pinkie," she said. "The curse started making her feel weird when her diaper is dry, so she asked if we could wait to change her for a bit."

"Okey-dokey!" Pinkie Pie said, happily abandoning the subject without another word, pulling off her saddlebags. "I got a whole bunch of food for Dashie!"

"Great," Rainbow Dash said, her stomach grumbling loudly. "What did you get?"

"Uh..." Pinkie dug through the bag, pulling out a couple jars of filly food and a large bottle of formula. Reading one jar, she read aloud, "Strained... Carrots. Ew, gross!"

Rainbow couldn't help but agree with that sentiment, but if it was all she could eat it was better than nothing. Grabbing a spoon from the table and a jar from Pinkie's hoof, she unscrewed the lid, feeling a little anxious. Digging the spoon into the orange mush, she moved it towards her mouth to take a bite.

Pinkie was right, as it turned out, Rainbow was able to eat the filly food. Pinkie was also right about the filly food being gross. It tasted like overcooked veggies run through a blender before having all the flavor drained out. Still, it was food, and Rainbow Dash felt famished. She devoured the first jar in a few bites and after Pinkie handed her a second, Rainbow devoured that one too.  Choking down the last few bites, she then took the filly bottle, sticking the rubber nipple into her mouth and sucking at it. Without the pacifier in, she felt thirsty enough to drink the whole lake, but she settled with the painfully slow trickle of formula. Finally, with her hunger and thirst dealt with, she set down the bottle and wiped her mouth with a hoof. Smiling sheepishly at Twilight and Pinkie, she blushed. "Uh, I was hungry..."

Her table manners weren't something Rainbow Dash typically cared about, but under the circumstances she felt like she should give an explanation. "Thanks, Pinkie," she added, "Mrs. Cake just gave you some of Pound and Pumpkins food?"

"Yup!"  Pinkie Pie agreed, smiling and nodding. "And don't worry, I didn't tell her about the curse, I just told them you were feeling super hungry for filly food."

"What?" Rainbow Dash said, slack-jawed ans stunned for a moment as she tried to reply. "That's- That's even worse! You at least didn't tell her anything else, right?"

"Of course not," Pinkie reassured her. "She had to take an order!" Rainbow sighed in relief, glad to hear that nopony had heard about the rest of the curse.

Until Pinkie Pie continued, that is, and said, "I told Mr. Cake about the diapers while he packed everything up for me."

"WHAT?" Rainbow Dash asked again, jumping into the air in shock.

"Calm down, Rainbow," Twilight said, not wanting things to get out of hand. "I'm sure the Cakes won't say anything."

"It's okay, it's okay!" Pinkie Pie promised, to reassure her friend. "I didn't tell him anything about the curse, I just told him you were wearing diapers for fun!"

Rainbow stammered for a second, horrified. "I... You... You idiot! Now nopony is ever going to take me seriously ever again! What in the hay were you thinking?"

"Rainbow Dash!" Twilight said. "I know you're upset, but Pinkie Pie is your friend!"

"My friend? My friend!?" Rainbow Dash asked, incredulous. "What kind of friend blabs to everypony that I'm wearing a freaking diaper? She's such an airhead she didn't even think why this might be a problem! She's so stup-"

Rainbow's tirade was cut off as the pacifier flew from the table into her mouth. A little glow from Twilight's magic was briefly visible, but that faded quickly. Rainbow's rant lost all momentum, and after a second she landed and hung her head, trying to avoid Twilight's gaze. She was giving Rainbow Dash a death glare, and Rainbow sucked on the pacifier for a second before looking over at Pinkie Pie, who was near tears.

"Rainbow Dash, I'm disappointed with you!" Twilight said, angrily. "You know Pinkie Pie didn't mean to embarrass you! Apologize to her!" Her horn glowing, she removed the pacifier from Rainbow's mouth for a second before pointing at Pinkie Pie and waiting.

"I'm sorry, Pinkie Pie," Rainbow Dash said, feeling a little dejected. "I didn't mean to make you feel bad, I was just upset."

Pinkie Pie cheered up a bit, smiling at Rainbow. "It's okay," she finally said. "You didn't really mean any of it... Right?"

"Right," Rainbow Dash promised, nodding.

Twilight smiled to herself, and Rainbow suspected that she was looking forward to writing the princess to tell her what she learned about forgiveness and friendship. "Well then!" She announced, happy that the subject had been dealt with. "Let's get to the lab."
