The New School
The Newbie
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwilight Sparkle was late. She hated being late. Especially on the first day attending her new school and she still had to make her first impressions with the teachers, and she didn't want that first impression to make her out to be a tardy student. Twilight panted with the effort of carrying her heavy backpack full of books through the crowded hallways, she paused to take a breather and figure out which way history class was. She glanced down at her watch and her heart skipped several beats as she realized she only had two minutes to get to the class. Pulling her backpack into a more comfortable position, Twilight decided to head left down the next corridor, when a multicolored blur slammed into her. Her overloaded backpack split open, and Twilight fell painfully in a shower of books.
"Watch it." The girl responsible for the collision said angrily. "You blind or something, seriously you couldn't see a girl running here." The rainbow haired girl didn't bother waiting for an answer before picking herself up and running off again.
"Ow." Twilight muttered rubbing the elbow she had landed on. She began picking up her fallen books only to realize her backpack was beyond use. She realized she'd only be able to take her history books and Twilight felt tears forming behind her eyes as she left the rest in the middle of the hallway. "Sorry I'm late Twilight." Gasped as she burst into history class, "couldn't find a parking spot, got lost, and my bag broke,. Wha...." Twilight's eyes widened when she saw the empty classroom and only a teacher sitting at her desk marking papers.
"You must be Twilight Sparkle, the new girl. I'm afraid you've had a wasted trip, history class doesn't start until this afternoon." Twilight's jaw hit the floor and she began hyperventilating.
"Bu.....bu....my......schedule. ...My... schedule... said..." Unable to talk properly Twilight handed the teacher her schedule with shaking hands. Miss Chirilee glanced the schedule over before handing it back to Twilight.
"It appears they've sent you the wrong one, this is for your second day. New students don't have any classes the first day so they can go through a tour of the school."
"So I'm not tardy?" The teacher chuckled and handed Twilight back her schedule.
"No you're not tardy. I must say it's a nice change to see a student actually worried about being on time. I look forward to being your teacher."
"Thanks. So where do I go for this tour."
"We have a student responsible for giving the tour. Right now she'll be on the soccer field. Just go to the front desk and I'll have her come collect you."
-----------------------------------------
"GO RAINBOW DASH YOU CAN DO IT!!" Rainbow knew Pinkie's statement was true, but it was gonna be a very close call, as she had the entire opposing team on her tail and the goalie she was up against was the best. Judging distance, speed, and wind direction, Rainbow put on her last burst of speed and kicked the ball sending it flying to the net. Time seemed to slow down as she watched the ball's progress through the air, and only when it landed in the net winning the game did she fall to the ground completely exhausted."RAINBOW YOU DID IT!!" Pinkie screamed running out onto the field, pulling the tired girl to her feet before squeezing her in a tight hug.
"Can't......breathe......" Rainbow managed to gasp out from Pinkie's vice like grip, Rarity walked and over manged to pry Pinkie off her.
"Rainbow Dash darling that was absolutely spectacular, I especially loved that flip you did." Rainbow rubbed her sore ribs where Pinkie had hugged her.
"Thanks Rarity. I've been practicing that move for ages." Just then the PA came alive with loud feedback causing the group to wince and cover their ears.
"Would Rainbow Dash please make her way to the front desk. Rainbow Dash to the front desk Please."
"UH-OH! Looks like they found I put the detergent and food dye in the toilets."
"Good luck with that." Applejack called after the retreating rainbow haired girl.
"Look I can explain." Rainbow said once she got up to the front desk, "I was paid to put the detergent and food dye in the toilets. I didn't want to do it, but I needed the money."
"Rainbow Dash," Miss Cherilee said, "this is Twilight Sparkle, she's new here so you need to give her the tour. After which you can report to the principal's office and tell Celestia what you just told me."
"Dang it!" Rainbow said face palming before turning her attention to the new girl who was glaring angrily at her, and hugging several books to her chest.
"Uh why are you looking at me like that?"
"Just give me the tour." Twilight said muttered angrily. Rainbow laughed nervously and rubbed the back of her head.
"Look I'm sorry if I upset you in some way. But..."
"Upset? You think I'm upset. Why would I be upset when you crashed into me hurting my elbow, ruining my book bag, then blaming the whole thing on me when you shouldn't have even been running at all!" Recognition clicked in Rainbow's mind as the new girl ranted on.
"Sorry about crashing into you like that. Normally I would have helped you out but I was late for one of the most important soccer games of this season. And my team needed me."
"Just give me the tour." Twilight muttered once more. They spent the first five minutes of the tour in awkward exchanges as Twilight asked questions and Rainbow tried her best to answer them. The cyan colored girl didn't know what Twilight's problem was, she had already apologized for running into her, what else did the girl want.
"Look I already said I was sorry about knocking into you, what else do you want?"
"My books I had to leave behind, and a new schoolbag would be nice." Rainbow looked thoughtful for a moment.
"Well your books would probably be in lost property by now, and we can get you a new bag from there as well." As soon as Twilight heard those words her face lit up and her mood changed for the better. They continued the tour and Rainbow actually found herself enjoying the new girls' company. Most other new girls usually asked questions about the latest gossip, or which which cute guys were single, but Twilight wasn't like that, she asked practical questions that had actual relevance to the tour.
"And this is the cafeteria. Where all your innutritious and unholy grudge can be found. I personally recommend bringing in your own food, and only touching the cafeteria food if you've got a particularly long class, or you've got detention. The potatoes are best for detention." Twilight raised an eyebrow at Rainbow.
"I take it you have some personal experience with that?" Rainbow was about to answer when a guy with blue hair stepped in front of her pushing Rainbow aside.
"Hey, I'm Flash. I take it you're new here. I'll be glad to give you a tour. of the school."
"Actually....." Twilight began, before Rainbow stepped in front of Flash poking him angrily in the shoulder.
"I'm already giving her the tour jerk-wad. So lay off playboy." Flash smirked.
"Oh I get it, you want to do her yourself. But I doubt she swings that way Dashie." Rainbow snarled and grabbed a glob of potatoes from the nearest tray and threw it in Flash's face.
"Only my friends get to call me that asshole." Rainbow said before grabbing Twilight and running out of the cafeteria as students began throwing food at each other.
"What...was...that....back....there?" Twilight asked between pants as she tried to keep up with the soccer player. Rainbow came to a stop and Twilight leaned against the lockers to catch her breath
"Oh that's just Flash Sentry the highschool jock, and allround playboy-slash-asshole. He currently has three different girlfriends and is looking for a fourth. He also calls me gay because I refuse to go out with him. Welcome to Canterlot High Sparkles." Twilight sighed and wiped sweat off her forehead.
"Well this has definitely been the most exciting first day of school I've had." Rainbow laughed.
"And just to think you're only half way through the day. We 've still got plenty of tour to go on." Twilight gestured for Rainbow to lead the way and they continued on with the tour. Several hours later the last bell rang signaling the end of the school day and the tour. "And that concludes the tour, I hope you like it here Sparkles."
"Me too, I haven't been to a school quite as exciting like this one." Rainbow looked at Twilight curiously.
"How many schools have you been to exactly?"
"Around twenty." Rainbow stopped walking and Twilight bumped into her.
"Did you just say "twenty?" Twilight winced as she rubbed her shoulder where she had bumped Rainbow. The Rainbow haired girl was harder than she looked. "How the heck could you have been at twenty different schools."
"My brother's a SFT. Special......"
"Special Forces Trainer."
"Yeah. He goes around to different bases training new military personal in everything from survival, to bomb building, and urban assault. Unfortunately his job requires him to move around a lot, so we never stay on one place for more than six months."
"So how long are you going to be here for?" Twilight smiled.
"We're planning on staying here permanently, my brother wants to start his own private military security firm and thought this would be a good place to start."
"That is so cool!" Rainbow exclaimed leading the way outside. "Hey you think when your brother starts his security firm I could work there?"
"You want to work in security?" Twilight asked surprised. Before Rainbow could answer, something pink flashed across the school field and tackled Rainbow to the ground.
"Rainbow! Something really really really really bad has happened....."
"Pinkie Pie! What the heck are you talking about? This better not be like that time the cafeteria ran out of chocolate milk." The girl with the pink hair scoffed and stood up pulling Rainbow Dash to her feet.
"Hey! That was the most tragic day in this school's history."
"Uh-huh....What about the time they ran out of apple pie?"
"Second most tragic. But that's not important at the moment. My sister tried to wash her pet rock and it fell down the drain and she rescued it by busting up the pipes so now the whole house is flooded." Rainbow's face fell.
"Aww man....that means we can't have the sleepover!"
"No it means we'll just have to have the sleepover at your house." Rainbow sighed.
"Fine, but none of that crazy candy you hype yourself up on, or we'll never get any sleep."
"Okie-dokie-lo....Hey who's this. Is this the new girl?"
"Pinkie Pie this is Twilight Sparkle. Twilight Sparkle this is Pinkie Pie."
"I love making new friends!" Pinkie said moving in for a hug only to fall over when Rainbow pulled Twilight out of the way.
"Oh my gosh!" Twilight exclaimed. "Are you okay?" Pinkie giggled up at her.
"Of course I'm okay Twilight. I landed on my head!" Pinkie's eyes suddenly widened and she sprang to her feet. "I totally got to tell the others we got a new friend." With that Pinkie ran off in a pink blur. Twilight turned to Rainbow who just shrugged.
"You get used to Pinkie's randomness after a while. Not really, but with a lot of practice you learn to cope with it. Anyway, want to meet the rest of the gang. Twilight hesitated before answering, Shining Amour was expecting her home soon so they could unpack the rest of their boxes.
"I actually need to get home soon, my brother and I still got a lot of unpacking to do. Maybe tomorrow?"
"Well can you make it to the sleepover tonight, that would be really awesome." Twilight shrugged.
"I'll try to. But I'll have to check with my brother first."
"That's cool. I'll text you my address in case you can come." The two girls parted ways and made their to way to their cars, and Rainbow gave the new girl a honk and wave as they drove away. Before going home, Rainbow went to the mall to pick up some supplies for the sleepover. Pinkie used to be the one who got the sweets and food for the sleepovers, but after several sugarless sleepovers they realized Pinkie wasn't the best person for that particular assignment. Once Rainbow had everything she needed for the sleepover, she went back to her house and was surprised to find Rarity pulling into her driveway. "Hey Rares!" Rainbow called pulling the shopping out of her car. "What brings you by?" Rarity added some touches to her makeup before stepping out of car.
"I'm here to help set up the sleepover of course, I always help set up the sleepovers at Pinkie's."
"Uh-huh. And what makes you think I need help with the sleepover." Rarity sighed and began helping carry some of the bags into the house.
"Well....yours and Pinkie's organization skills aren't exactly something to be proud of, so I came by to help out." Rarity opened the door and led the way into the kitchen where they dumped the bags on the counter.
"Do you hear that?" Rainbow asked. Rarity looked confused.
"Hear what darling?"
"Exactly it's too quiet. Something's not right." Rainbow opened one of the kitchen draws and pulled out a handgun loading it with a new clip. Moving quickly she pulled Rarity behind the kitchen counter telling her to keep down just as a person dressed in camo gear stepped from the hallway raising two handguns and opening fire. Rainbow cursed as projectiles flew around her head and she ran into the lounge room sliding across the floor into cover behind the couch returning fire. The camo dressed person ducked back around the corner and Rainbow took advantage of the lull in fire by running forward and sliding across the floor firing shot after into the hallway. But the camo dressed person was gone.
"What on earth is going Rainbow Dash!" Rarity demanded running across the room. Rainbow grabbed Rarity and pushed her against the wall.
"Just stay here and try not to get shot." Rarity was about to something but Rainbow pressed a finger to her lips. "And don't talk." Rainbow left Rarity and cautiously made her way down the hall looking for any trip wires, or other traps. She made it to the room at the end of the hall and pulled it open revealing the camo dressed person standing in the middle of the room. Rainbow raised her gun to fire and the person threw a grenade at her, it gave a loud beep and a red light flashed on it.
"No fair Scoots." Rainbow said putting her Nerf gun away, "I totally would have won if it weren't for that grenade." Scootaloo smiled and lowered her own nerf guns.
"You wish Dashie. I totally won that one."
"As fascinating and intriguing as your little game is girls," Rarity said walking around picking up the nerf bullets. "I really must insist we get started on setting up this sleepover." Scootaloo rounded on her sister.
"You're having a sleepover? Why didn't tell me you were having a sleepover, I could have totally invited Sweetie bell and Applebloom tonight." Rainbow ruffled her little sister’s hair and walked back into the kitchen to unpack the shopping.
“Sorry Scoots but....” Rarity grabbed the bags from Rainbow and shooed her from the kitchen. “Hey! I was working here!”
“Yes darling, and now I’m working here, while you clean up the mess from your silly little game.” Rainbow huffed and was about to argue, but Rarity clicked her fingers and pointed to the mess of nerfs on the floor. “Unless of course you want to cook a meal for five people.”
“Better make it six, I invited the new girl over today.” Rarity blinked several times at the Rainbow haired girl.
“And you’re just now telling me this. Like I said before darling, your organizational skills are not something to be proud of.” Rainbow grumbled something before walking around and picking up the nerfs.
