Chapters Chapter 1 : The Letter
Sunlight lead the arrival of the dawn, pushing the darkness of night over the western horizon. It’s light fell upon the eye of a sleeping Twilight Sparkle, rousing her from her slumber. As she rubbed her eyes to clear the sandpony’s powder, she was entranced by the sweet, familiar smell of hay cakes.
“Hmm, is that what I think it is?” She wondered as she became fully awake.
Twilight made her way to the library’s lower level, where her nose guided her into the kitchen. There, she found an unusual sight; Spike was awake, and making haycakes no less!
“Oh, good morning Twilight” He greeted her with a smile while still focused on his cooking, as any diligent assistant would. Suddenly, he burst into laughter as he allowed his gaze to drift over to Twilight.
“What did you do? Trot into a field of poison joke?” The baby dragon continued to laugh hysterically.
As Twilight looked at the giggling dragon she turned her head to a mirror and saw that her mane shot off in every direction. She wondered if it was another one of Rainbow and Pinkie’s pranks.
“Oh boy, If Rarity saw me like this, she would give me a complete make over, don’t you think so Spike?” She tamed the strands with a brush, so as to not give the element of generosity a heart attack.
Spike just giggled and nodded, he had seen Rarity do that to Twilight on more than one occasion over less minor crimes against fashion. As Spike returned to the kitchen, he felt something in his stomach building up, growing, before finally burping up a scroll. He noticed that the seal on the scroll was not red, but green. It was a personal scroll addressed to Princess Twilight.
“Twilight!” Spike called out from the kitchen.
“Yes, Spike? What is it?” Twilight said peaking her head into the kitchen after she had tamed her mane.
Spike showed Twilight the scroll, which she then levitated in front of herself. She looked at the green seal before opening it. She didn’t normally get such letters from the Princess. This must have been very important.
Dear: Princess Twilight
As Twilight read the scroll, her mind was trying to cope with the fact that there is possibly more to the story than she had thought. She stood there for a moment lost in thought of the story and this new character in whom she has never even heard of before. Spike noticed, and out of concern he nudged her.
“Uh, Twilight? Everything Alright?
It didn't take long for her to catch herself, quickly getting a hold of her thoughts before they could consume her forever.
Twilight shook her head. “Oh, it’s nothing.” She replied "It's just that the Princess wants to talk to me about something regarding Princess Luna.”
“She wants to talk to you about Luna? But why?” Spike was now a bit confused.
“Well, in her letter she talks about the story of Nightmare moon, and mentions the line, "The stars will aid in her escape".”
Spike nodded, remembering the many times Twilight read him the story before tucking him into bed. However, he soon became distracted as he glanced over at the now finished haycakes.
Spike sighed. “Well, guess that’s the end of breakfast, huh?”
“Of course not. Spike, How could I ever skip a breakfast prepared by my number one assistant?” Her reply did much to lift the baby dragon’s heart, and the two wasted no time in preparing to eat.
“Mmm, delicious! You’ve really outdone yourself with these, Spike!” Twilight said after she had her first taste.
As they finish the haycakes, the duo prepared to depart for Canterlot.
“Well I think its about time to go now.” Said Spike who was just finishing his last haycake.
“Yes. I’m sure happy I got those flying lessons from Rainbow Dash.” Twilight happily pointed out.
Remembering the first time Spike had seen Twilight attempt to fly, he did nothing else but agree. “You and me both, sister.”
As they walked out the door, Twilight spread her wings casting the silhouette of a Princess preparing for flight. As a rocket preparing for launch, Twilight was soon to take off and Spike didn't want to miss his flight so he quickly hopped on her back. Her flying had much improved since her coronation. Rainbow Dash had put all of her energy into making Twilight fly like she was born with wings, though upon take off, Twilight felt as if her efforts had not been for naught. As she soared up into the sky, she remembered the story along with the new details Princess Celestia had just shared with her. She wondered what the Princess was going to tell her, because all she had to go on was the ancient legends that where told during the time of Nightmare moon about her subsequent banishment.
“I wonder what Princess Celestia is going to tell me..” Twilight shared her thoughts with Spike.
“Me too. She wouldn’t have called you all the way to Canterlot if it wasn’t super important.”
Twilight nodded, but still wondered what it was that had Celestia so worked up. She had banished her sister over a thousand years ago, and Nightmare Moon had been turned back into Luna by the Elements of Harmony. What significance was this Night Sky now?
“By the way, Twilight?” Spike interrupted her train of thought.
“Yes, Spike?”
“What went on with you back there? When you read the letter I mean. It looked like you had alot on your mind."
Twilight looked at the expansive blue sky that lay before her.
“Well Spike. In the letter, Princess Celestia said she found a book not long after she used the Elements of Harmony to send Luna to the moon. You do remember the line, right? "After one thousand years, the stars will aid in her escape"
Spike nodded as he does know the story and is well familiar with the line. “Yeah, you mentioned something about it back at the library.”
“Well, apparently the "stars", were actually somepony very close to Luna. He was a colt, named Night Sky."
Spike held on tightly to Twilight as Canterlot came into view. They decided to head for the castle gardens where Twilight could land with the least difficulty.
“Hang on Spike!" Began Twilight. "I think this is going to be a bumpy ride. I still haven’t mastered the landing, so fasten your seatbelt!”
Spike didn’t know where the seat belt came from, but he sure was glad he found it.

"Soo.." Twilight runs up beside the Princess.
"Where are we going?" Asks Twilight curiously.
Princess Celestia continues walking as if she had not heard the question.
"Princess?" Still no reply.
Soon she finds herself being guided through a familiar hallway with stained glass murals on the walls and Princess Celestia comes to a halt in front of a three shaded purple door framed in gold with the icon of a sun in the centre very similar to the Princess' cutie mark. The door they stand in front of is the same door that was used to protect the Elements of Harmony at the time of Discord's return, but now since the Elements of Harmony are with Twilight there seems to be no use for it. As Princess Celestia puts her horn into the keyhole and uses her spell to unlock it, the door glows with a soft yellow light until the sound of a powerful click could be heard from inside revealing its unlocked state.
“Princess?” Twilight asks wondering what was happening.
Still no response, it felt like the words that came out of Twilight's muzzle fell to deaf ears. As the door creaked open and the strong yellow light faded away on the small table inside, a little black book with Princess Luna's cutie mark on the cover is seen lying on its surface. The book looked very old and tattered as it had small marks and tears along the spine as well as some across the cover.
Princess Celestia swallowed a big lump down her throat before turning to face Twilight. “This is Luna’s diary that I have been keeping secret from her for more than 1000 years.”

Chapter 2 : Luna’s Diary
As Twilight tried to slow down to conflict a soft landing, the ground continued racing toward her at an incredibly fast rate that seemed to do nothing but increase by the second and her fast thinking caused her wings to flair out in hopes to slow down, but instead caused the complete opposite to happen. Twilight was now spinning through the air, her wings and legs flailing in all directions as she uncontrollably hurdled into the Canterlot garden with Spike clinging on to her back using all of his strength.
"Spike!" Started Twilight talking in a fast pace.
"Embrace for.."
Twilight's eyes focused on her soon to be crashing point and quickly closed them before she could spit out another word. Suddenly there was the sickening sound of snapping branches. One branch after the other followed by a loud dull collision sound equivalent to one of a meteor impaling the Earth could be heard for miles. Twilight just laid there for a few seconds, after a crash like that she thought she would just enjoy the comfort of the hole her flailing body had made.
"T-Twilight.. Next time.." States Spike breathing in and out deeper than usual. "Let’s take.. The train.."
Twilight tilted her head to the direction of Spike's voice then opened her eyes to see a very dirty version of her number one assistant spinning in slow circles trying to pull off leaves from his spines then stop to cough out dust.
"Yah.." Says Twilight under her breath "Next time I think we just might.."
In no time Twilight finds the strength to rise to her hooves and make her way into the castle from the garden when she is stopped by a weak tug on her tail. She turns her head to see what it was only to be greeted with Spike who is squinting his eyes back at her.
"Uhh.. Yes Spike?" Says Twilight as Spike continues to squint in her direction.
"Next time, we take the.." Spike is suddenly cut off with a voice coming from the entrance to the castle.
"Princess Twilight, please follow me. This way."
Twilight looks back at Spike who is just getting the last leaf off of his spine. "Come on Spike, let’s see what the Princess wants."
Twilight and Spike both follow behind the guard and are taken to the Canterlot throne room to be greeted by Princess Celestia. Immediately she acknowledges Twilight's presence and signals the guards to leave and close the doors behind them and in seconds Twilight hears a small click behind her simulating that they are now alone.
"Twilight, I'm so glad you could make it in such short notice."
"As am I Princess, but what did you need to tell me so badly?"
The emotions on Princess Celestia's face slowly change to express a minor level of guilt. "Please, come with me." Celestia starts making her way out of the throne room with Spike and Twilight tailing behind her.
"Soo.." Twilight runs up beside the Princess.
"Where are we going?" Asks Twilight curiously.

As Twilight came closer to the Princess she saw that the little book had a small heart shaped lock on it. On the book it read “Luna’s Diary” in silver letters along the bottom. This kind of book was something Twilight heard about but she herself never had, but she heard that these kind of books held powerful secrets. Secrets of feelings, emotions, pain, and fears. But what would happen if the colt had magic powers, similar to the powers of both princesses. The memory of she and her friends being sucked into Spike's comic book came to mind instantly sending cold shivers down her spine.
“Princess, what’s in this book?”
As Twilight asked this simple question, the cold sensation continued to travel along her spine and a loose knot began to form inside her stomach. She now came closer to the book revealing a faint magic glow that emitted from within the pages causing her curiosity to reach an all new level. Twilight's face was reflecting many emotions now as she thought of many possible things that could be trapped inside such a book.
“May I read it?” she asked, her voice between excitement and curiosity.
“Of course." Calmly assured Princess Celestia. "It’s why I asked you to come here in the first place, but there is also something I want your opinion on.. And it’s about Luna.” the Princess sighed softly.
“Luna has been asking me many questions about her past. She feels as if there is something missing and seeks me for answers. I have told her many times that nothing is missing, that everything is the same but she still searches. I don’t want to tell her about the truth and I don't know if I should, but what she’s been missing is in this dairy, and that is why.. I need your advice whether or not I should let her know. The outcome could be devastating. Hard on her.. and.." The Princess softly lowered her head to regain her strength then rose it again after a deep breath. "For myself.. I cant do that to her again.. I'm so.. so sorry little sister.." Her eyes now closed tightly after saying that last sentence.
Princess Celestia's eyes started to tear up remembering what she had to do that night to her beloved sister. These thoughts soon causing her to nearly collapse onto the floor as she felt like a big weight was dropped onto her back. She quietly sobbed on the floor forming a small puddle around her forgetting that Twilight was standing right there.
"Princess Celestia?"
The white alicorn soon turned her face to the direction of the voice to see a blurry image of a purple pony standing now just inches away but soon felt a graceful wing touching her left cheek whipping away the tears.
“thank you.. My faithful student.." Started Princess Celestia who quickly corrected herself. "I mean Princess.” She softly giggled at her mistake now sniffling her pain away.
“your very welcome..” Twilight paused and smiled teasingly. "Princess."
Princess Celestia smiled back weakly and got back to her hooves. "Please Twilight, take this book home with you. It's best you know the rest of the story. That way you might be able to give me solid advice. And please be careful, the Diary has a magic power that even I don't understand."
Twilight nodded her head in an understanding manner and ignited her horn with a gentle lavender glow which seemed to brighten Celestia's mood. She then levitated the diary into her saddlebag, closed the saddlebag, and levitated spike onto her back to immediately start running out of the castle.
Twilight soon stepped hoof outside of the castle and flared her wings to take off when she heard spike yell something from her back.
"Stop!" Yells Spike who is seemingly gripping Twilight's Back tighter.
"What.. Oh! Right! Train.. Sorry..".
Next Time On A Dark Secret!
"How in Equestria did I get here? Wherever.. Here is." Whispered the now confused pony.
"But Tia, I don wanna go to schoowow. I wanna stay heaw wif you.." Came the voice of a filli from inside one of the rooms inside the hallway. This immediately caught Twilight's attention so she began walking in the direction of the voice.
"Luna." Began another voice that sounded just a bit older than the other. "It'll be fun. You will meet other fillies just like you and make lots of friends. Trust me little sister, you will enjoy it."
"But, what if they don like me. What if they find me weiwd, they might waf at me."
"Nopony is going to laugh at you Luna. I know it's scary, even I once went to school for my first time. I thought all of the things you are thinking right now and more but once I got there I really liked it, I always have. Now what do you say we start heading over there right now?"

Chapter 3 : A First Entry
The sound of a door creaking echoed through the treehouse as Twilight and Spike arrived at home from their recent and interesting visit with the Princess in Canterlot.
"See Twilight? Much safer than flying, and about as fast too!" Said Spike as he rushed inside.
"Ya, I guess that was a little better Spike" Twilight yawned as she entered the room closing the door behind her. "But kind of tiring too."
Twilight took off her saddle bag and layed it on the table in the center of the room then opened it up and levitated the Diary in front of her. After a few good looks she glanced over at Spike who was smiling back at her and out of curiosity she sat down at her desk and flipped to the first page.
Twilight began to read out loud to spike who was cleaning up breakfast from that morning.
"Dear diary" Read Twilight. But just as she began to read, the pages started to glow a dark purple haze and before Twilight could look away, she found herself in an old castle that looked very familiar. She was standing in the middle of a long hallway with brick walls and doors along the sides.
"How in Equestria did I get here? Wherever.. Here is." Whispered the now confused pony.

Twilight peaked her head into the doorway to see two Alicorns talking. The younger one had a dark blue mane and a dark purple coat and was wearing a saddle bag with the icon of a moon on the centre of it, and the older one stood proud with a pink mane that seemed to flow in the wind and a pure white coat with a cutie mark that resembled the sun. It was Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, only much younger.
"This must be their old castle.. The one they shared until it was destroyed by Nightmare Moon 1000 years ago." Whispered Twilight quietly to herself as she watched and listened to the conversation.
"Can't I stay heaw a wittow wonger?"
"Luna Listen, every pony has to go to school, even you as a princess"
Luna looks at her big sister, her look is that of despair and fear. "But, but they wiw make fun of me because I'm diffwent."
As the filly Luna made that statement a stallion had entered the room passing right by Twilight as if she wasn't there.
"Well Luna, let's get you off to school."
Luna was a bit shocked as she heard the voice of her dad, the stallion was wearing what was for Twilight, old armour, but it was the kings armour in those times.
"But Daddy.." Complained Luna hoping it would some how change his mind.
"Listen sweetie, school is something every pony needs to do. Whether you like it or not you still need to go."
Luna's ears dropped as she looked down at the floor. "Okay, woona wiw go to scoowow.."
Luna took her favorite doll from her bed and put it in her saddle bag then walked up beside her father. She stood there for a moment nervously then looked up at her father with a question.
"Is it weawy going to be fine Daddy?"
The stallion looked down at Luna then glanced up at her older sister giving a weak smile, one that simulates a question without words. Without delay Celestia chuckles then nods in understanding before she walks out of the room to wait outside.
"You know.." He closes the door behind him while remaining inside the room. "Keep this a secret from your sister, I don't think she would want you to know this, but do you want to know where I've heard those exact words from before?"
"Mhmm." Sounds Luna nervously but excited as if she is going to hear a great secret.
"From your sister." The colt opens the door just enough for Luna to see her sister. "And now look at her." Luna peers out of the crack in the door watching Celestia scan through one of her books levitated infront of her by her magic. The action is one that Twilight always does when she is reading a good book, or literally any book. "Does it seem like she doesn't like going to school?"
Luna looks at her dad then peers back at Celestia through the door crack. "Tia?" Luna speaks through the crack, one eye can be seen looking at Celestia along with half of her nose and mouth. Celestia smiles and sets down her book.
"Yes Luna?"
"Do you wike schoowow?"
"Of course Luna, I love it!" Celestia picks up her book with her magic and wanders off to her room with it to put it away. Luna looks back at her dad.
"Tia wikes schoowow daddy."
"So what do you think that means Luna?"
"I think It means, Woona should wike schoowow too."
"That's right sweety, now lets go get you to school." The stallion opens the door the rest of the way about to exit the room but stops when Luna calls him.
"Daddy?"
He looks back at his daughter who is walking up beside him again. "Yes?"
"Do you think I wiw ever get pwivate magic wessons wif mommy wike Tia does?"
The stallion smiles. "Of course Luna."
"Okay daddy." The two leave the room to go to school.
Twilight stands there for a few seconds in thought. "Wait, thats the king? I wonder why I haven't seen him in any pictures." Twilight quickly takes notice that Luna and the King are almost out of view so she begins to run after them. Moments later as Twilight is trying to catch up, her vision begins to alter. A purple smoke starts filling the castle at an increasing rate making her surroundings incredibly hard to see, and soon she can't see a thing. The blinding smoke does not last long, in the blink of an eye the smoke is gone and Twilight is standing in another room she has seen before.
"Okay class, settle down." Says a mare who is standing at the front of the room.
Twilight begins to tense up and her breathing accelerates. "T-this is my old class.. T-this is.. M.. Magic Kinder garden!"
The teacher speaks up. "Settle down please!" She then stomped her hoof against the ground a few times and all the fillies sat in there seats, but two of them were empty.
"Today we have a new student! Please be kind to her." The teacher opens the classroom door and in walks Celestia. The room stood silent for a few seconds until one student spoke up.
"Isn't she a little old?"
Celestia looks confused to the question until she looked down at her side and noticed Luna wasn't there. "Luna. Get in here."
"Fine.." Came a reply from outside the classroom just before she walked in looking at the floor with her ears down.
"This is Luna," Began the teacher. "Princess, of the night."
"Well going to be anyway" Said Celestia.
The teacher giggles, and nods. "Yes, that's right. Class, this is Luna, soon to be the princess of the night. Please be nice to her, and Luna?"
Luna shyly looked up at the teacher, her ears still down. "Yes Ms.."
The teacher politely cut her off. "Ms.Joy."
"Oh.. Okay. Yes Ms.Joy?"
"Here in this classroom we always ask newcomers one special question, it's a classroom tradition."
Luna gave the teacher a look of confusion. "A cwasswoom Tadishion?"
Ms.Joy quickly noticed Luna's speech impedament and found it adorable. "Yes! A classroom Tradition. Please tell the class your name and what your wish for the future is."
Luna looks at all the young fillies and colts. "um.." She looks back at Celestia who gives her a reassuring smile. "I.. M-my name is Woona. It's a, pweasure to meet you awl." Some of the ponies giggle causing Luna to look at Celestia once more then she uses her magic to tug Celestia's mane gently in her direction. Celestia gets the signal and goes up to stand next to Luna.
"So what do you wish for the future?" Asks Ms.Joy.
"Woona wishes for awl ponies to be happy." Replied Luna.
"Well Luna that is such a great wish, and we all wish for you to be happy too!"
Luna smiles and after glancing at Celestia once more she makes her way to her desk and sits down.
"Goodbye Luna, I will be back after class to pick you up." Celestia begins leaving the room but just before she passes through the door she glances in Twilight's direction nervously, almost as if staring into her eyes. Confused, Twilight looked behind her to see if anything would have caught Celestia's eye. Not seeing anything she looked down at Luna who still looked nervous and was looking at the other students around her.
"Okay class! Time for attendance!" Began Ms.Joy. As she read out the names the fillies and colts answered. "Golden Ring, Green Ozone, Tree Tap, Apple Smith," soon she got to Luna's name. "Luna?"
Immedatly as her name was said the familiar purple smoke began to flood the room and in a second Twilight was back in her library with spike calling out to her.
"Twilight!" Yelled spike who was standing an inch away from Twilight.
Twilight looked around her room to find that some of the purple smoke was still in her vision so she closed her eyes and shook her head and the smoke was gone.
Next Time On A Dark Secret!
“Wait.. Can you see me? You know I'm here? ..Luna?” Twilight says softy but as she speaks the purple smoke returns flushing Celestia and Luna out of sight. As the smoke starts to clear and her vision returns she finds herself back at the school. Twilight sees Luna playing with her new friends near her desk and suddenly Ms.Joy enters the room. She looks around at her students.
“Okay everypony, settle down and take your seats please.” She said in a strict but gentle voice and all the ponies sat down in there seats, but one seat however was empty. Right beside Luna.
"Today we have a new student! He came here from somewhere very far away, everypony say hello to Night Sky!" Night Sky walks into the class on cue and takes in his surrounding. Not looking where he was going being distracted by all of the eyes watching him, he accidentally bumps into the teacher's desk. The class laughs at him.

Chapter 4 : Night Sky
"Twilight?" Asked Spike wondering if she was all right.
"Wow, what happened.." She whispers as she brings a hoof to her head.
"I don't know! As soon as you said "Dear Diary" the book started to glow and then almost instantly your eyes went purple and started to glow like the book! You kept reading the diary out loud and I tried calling out to you but you didn't answer but when you said Luna's name you came back!"
Twilight looks at Spike who obviously was worried sick. "Something strange is going on here Spike, it's almost like I was there."
"You're telling me!" Replied Spike. "..Wait.. There? What do you mean Twilight?"
"There, meaning in the diary. It is almost like I was watching her diary entry as if I was there."
"Oh, ya that is weird, kinda cool but still weird. So what now? Are you just going to read another entry?"
"Not yet Spike. Can you go and get me the book "Royal Ancestry Of Equestria"? I think It might have a few answers in there that I am looking for."
Spike runs off and comes back in seconds with the book in hand. The cover is brown with a gold trim around the edges of the book, in the centre is an image of the solar system for what it is thought to look like. Spike holds the book out to Twilight.
"Thank you Spike" Says Twilight as she levitates it out of his claws and starts scanning through the pages. "Spike, do you know the name of Princess Celestia's father?"
Spike gives Twilight an odd look. "Princess Celestia has a father?"
"I'll take that as a no." Says Twilight as she continues to scan the pages. "Prince Gumala, King Luno, Prince Bulan, Prince Marama, King Zon, Prince Rana, Prince Sol, King Haul.. Spike none of these colts look like Princess Luna and Princess Celestia's father, why is there nothing about him?"
"I don't know Twilight, maybe he didn't like anypony saying things about him. Maybe he was one of those ponies who just liked to keep to himself."
"I don't know." Twilight puts down the book. "But if you're right, I think I'm going to have to read another entry, that may be the only way I can learn about him. Also, Luna is the real reason I even have the book." Twilight picks up the diary and opens it to the second entry but Spike stops her before she can read a word.
"Wait! What if this time you don't come back? What would I do?"
"I don't know but I'm pretty sure everything is going to be fine. I think if I say Luna's name, it will bring me back. It is in Diary format, Remember?"
Spike waits a few moments in thought until he finally understands what she just said. "Oh! So when the Diary entry ends you come back right?"
"Exactly." Replies Twilight.
"Okay, so just one entry, I really hope you're right. As soon as something goes wrong though, I'm going to get help just to be on the safe side."
"That's a good idea Spike. Well, here goes.. Dear Diary." The book starts glowing a purple haze once more and soon the purple smoke in Twilight's head slowly dissipates. Twilight blinks to get her focus back and as soon as she opens her eyes she can see where she is. Twilight is back in the castle were she first began in the previous entry.
Twilight looks back and forth. "Okay Diary, what will you show me this time." Twilight begins walking down the hallway looking at the doors. She approaches one of the doors and pushes it open only to find a barrier of purple smoke, she then moves to the next door. Suddenly Luna's voice can be heard from just a few doors away calling her dad.
"Daddy?" Calls Luna. In seconds Luna's father walks through the door Twilight had recently opened emerging from the smoke and moves to Luna's bedroom opening the door when he comes within reach. Twilight enters behind him.
"Yes Luna?" He asked while walking into her room.
Luna looked at her dad as if she had something very important to ask and trotted up to him. “Daddy?”
“What is it dear?” The King looked down at his daughter.
“Can I go to schoowow today?” Luna asked.
The King smiles and walks up to a calendar just a few feet away then points a hoof at one of the days listed. “Dear it’s Saturday today. See?"
Luna looks at the calendar confused. "So?"
"So there is no school today. Remember? It was like that last week, the week before that, and the week before that. You can go to school on Monday."
Luna looks down at the ground and her ears drop as she now likes to go to school. "Oh, wight."
“But you know what you can do?” Said the King.
Luna looks up at her dad. “Huh?"
“You could ask if your sister wants to take a walk with you, it’s a nice day out and it’s a shame to have to spend a lovely day like this inside a stuffy old castle, maybe your sister will even tell you about her days in school.”
"Okay Daddy." Luna immediately smiles and gets her saddle bag then looks for her favourite doll and puts it inside.
“Daddy?” Calls Luna.
“Yes dear?” Replies the King.
“I wove you!"
“I love you too. Have fun Sweety.“
Luna began to trot off to her sister's chambers going around Twilight as if she was an obstacle before leaving her room.
"Tia!" Yells Luna as to get her sister's attention.
Suddenly the purple smoke begins to flood in and Twilight closes her eyes, when she re-opens them she is standing in the castle garden. But she doesn't see Celestia or Luna anywhere.
"A garden? That's strange, I don't remember Their old castle having a garden." Twilight whispered to herself. Soon after Twilight's side note Celestia and Luna enter the garden a few feet away in mid conversation. Celestia is talking and Luna is listening intensely.
"And when it exploded, his beard caught on fire! He had to use his magic to put out the flame but when he did, his beard was all singed. It looked so bad!"
Luna giggles and Celestia continues her story.
"So the next day he came back to the castle and his beard was gone. He looked so weird without his beard, we didn't even recognize him. We called him Star Swirl Unbearded for so long after that."
Celestia and Luna share a giggle as Twilight laughs along with them.
“So Tia?" Starts Luna. "Can you tell Woona about your days at schoowow?”
Celestia smiles softly to her little sister then goes and sits on the grass under a big oak tree. “Come here my little sister, and I will tell you about my days at school.”
Luna sat down next to Celestia looking in awe at her sister.
“My first day at school started the same as yours. I was scared and wondered if ponies would make fun of me, but it was actually the other way around. I made lots of friends when I started in school.”
“Woona has wots of fwiends too now, but Woona doesn't know if they can come over and pway wif me” Luna's ears drop slightly. Taking notice of this, Celestia puts a wing over her little sister and pulls her closer which soon causes Luna to smile.
“Luna, you can have friends come over one day but you need to grow up a little more first. I heard that we will go out to a new castle you and I, and when we do you can have as many friends come over as you'd like. It is still a long ways away but for now just keep going to school and try your best at everything you do.”
“We going to wive together?” Luna looked puzzled at her sister.
“Yes, deep in the Everfree forest. The castle is being build right now, and maybe soon we can go take a look.“
Twilight suddenly begins taking in her surroundings. "Wait.. This isn't the Everfree forest? Then where in Equestria are we?"
“Are Mommy and Daddy mad at us?” The look on Luna’s face remaining puzzled but drifting towards one of confusion as well.
“No, what makes you think that? When we grow up we will have to learn how to take care of ourselves, It’s been this way for many generations.”
"Oh, okay. But Isn't the Evafwee fowest dangawous?"
"Yes, it can be very dangerous for normal ponies but guess what. We will have something normal ponies don't have, guards. When we go, Mom will send Canterlot Royal Guards to protect us."
Twilight gasps. "Canterlot? We're in Canterlot! Well that explains the garden."
Luna's attention slowly moves from her sister to Twilight's direction as if she feels something is there. "Tia?"
"Yes little sister?" Replies Celestia.
"Do you ever feeow wike you're being watched?" Luna looks back at her sister.
“Hmmm, maybe it’s just your imagination Luna." Celestia says with a giggle in her voice.
“Wait.. Can you see me? You know I'm here? ..Luna?” Twilight says softy but as she speaks the purple smoke returns flushing Celestia and Luna out of sight. As the smoke starts to clear and her vision returns she finds herself back at the school. Twilight sees Luna playing with her new friends near her desk and suddenly Ms.Joy enters the room. She looks around at her students.
“Okay everypony, settle down and take your seats please.” She said in a strict but gentle voice and all the ponies sat down in there seats, but one seat however was empty. Right beside Luna.
"Today we have a new student! He came here from somewhere very far away, everypony say hello to Night Sky!" Night Sky walks into the class on cue and takes in his surrounding. Not looking where he was going being distracted by all of the eyes watching him, he accidentally bumps into the teacher's desk. The class laughs at him.
"Sorry."
"Oh it's okay Night Sky." Replied the teacher. "Now you may not know this but we actually have a bit of a classroom tradition for newcomers."
Night Sky's attention now went to Ms.Joy and he spoke in a strong Manehatton accent. "Oh really? What Kinda classroom Tadition?"
The class laughed because they found his accent to be weird, but Luna giggled along with them for a completely different reason.
"Here at Magic Kinder garden we ask all new comers two very special questions. Please tell the class your name and what your wish for the future is."
Night Sky turned to face the class. "Hello, my name is Night Sky, and uh.. My wish for the future is that all ponies will start to enjoy the night."
"Very nice Night Sky, that is possibly one of the best wishes I have heard in a long time." Ms.Joy then pointed beside Luna. Over there is your desk, please go and sit down so we can get started. Night Sky looks at his desk then at luna and smiles before he sits down. As soon as he got in his desk Luna sat up strait and in a few seconds she looked at Night Sky.
"Hi, I'm Woona!"
Night Sky looked at Luna. "Oh.. Hi Woona. I'm Night Sky but you already know that."
"Where are you fwom? You sound diffewent." Luna asked while giving him a suspicious look.
"Ah yah, I'm from Manehatton." He found the look she gave him to be a bit weird.
Luna erases the look from her face and lets out a smile. "Oh coowow! Do you wanna be fwiends?"
"Ya know what? Ya.. Why not. I'm new here aren't I?" Replied Night Sky.
Ms.Joy interrupted them. "Pay attention please!" Luna and Night Sky stopped talking and looked toward the front of the class but a few moments later, Luna started looking at Night Sky again. Ms.Joy soon took notice. "Please don't make me ask you again, pay attention please."
It seems she couldn't hear the teacher very well so the teacher spoke up. "Luna!"
The Purple Smoke flooded the room and moments later Twilight was back in her tree house.
"Twilights Back!" Came the voice of Rainbow Dash shortly followed by Fluttershy.
"Oh we were so worried!"
Twilight took notice that not only were Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy in her tree house, but so was the rest of the gang.
Spike ran up to Twilight and gave her a big hug. "You're back! Did you find anything new?"
Next Time On A Dark Secret!
Tears start to well up in Luna's eyes as she felt like it has been a long time since she even made eye contact with her older sister.
"So that's how it is? Mom is preparing you to become this great big Princess while I sit back and rot away? Why don't I get to become a Princess too, huh!? All I can do is sit back and do nothing!"
Celestia puts down her book and approaches her saddened sister. "Luna you know as well as I do that this castle doesn't need another Princess. Mom is only preparing me to rule the other castle and every castle only needs one Princess, I have never heard of a castle with two. I am the oldest child therefore I am next to the throne, I'm sorry but that's how it is little sister."
Luna's tears are now flowing down her cheeks as if trying to form a river. "Next to the throne? Next to the throne!? You always get special attention from Mom and dad just because you are next to the throne! It's not fair! Even dad has started giving me the cold shoulder! He is paying more attention to you and less to me! Also he claims he needs to "Ready his troops"! I don't even know what he needs to ready them for but what I do know is that you are getting all of the attention, and leaving none for me! And that is why, I.. I.."

Chapter 5: Darkness In The Mist
The Purple Smoke flooded the room and moments later Twilight was back in her tree house.
"Twilights Back!" Came the voice of Rainbow Dash shortly followed by Fluttershy.
"Oh we were so worried!"
Twilight took notice that not only were Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy in her tree house, but so was the rest of the gang.
Spike ran up to Twilight and gave her a big hug. "You're back! Did you find anything new?"
"Rainbow? Fluttershy? bu.." Began Twilight but was cut off by Rarity.
"But why are we here? Well you see, little Spikey Wikey here got so worried while you were gone.."
Applejack cuts off Rarity. "So he went n' got all of us. He thought just havin' all of us here together would bring you back."
Rarity glares at Applejack. "I was just going to say that, Applejack."
Applejack responds. "Ya well, ah guess ah beat you to it."
Rarity gets ready to talk back but can't because before she can say a word, Spike fills the gap. "When you were in the book I heard you say Luna's name but you didn't come back. I remembered you telling me that you would only be in there for one entry, so I panicked and went and got all of them."
"Yah... It didn't really work." Says Rainbow Dash.
Twilight looks around at her friends but notices something missing. "Spike you didn't get all of them. Remember? Pinkie Pie is one of the girls too."
Spike replies. "Oh! No, she's here. Somewhere.." Spike calls out to Pinkie.
"Pinkie Pie! Twilights back!"
Instantly, the rustling of dishes could be heard coming from the kitchen as if a cat was trying to get out of its super secret hiding spot. Everyone looked towards the kitchen and soon the rustling stopped. Everyone stared at the kitchen door in silence for a mere 30 seconds until a voice could be heard from beside Twilight whispering loudly. This caused everyone to look towards Twilight.
"What are we all looking at.."
Twilight jumped and looked beside her to see Pinkie Pie staring intensely at the kitchen door.
"Pinkie, Twilights back. See?" Says Spike.
Pinkie departs her eyes from the door and focuses them on Spike. "Well duuuuh. How else could she be here if she's not here? I mean it's not like she actually went anywhere, but if she had she had better had brought me. Had hadhad had!" Pinkie Giggles.
"So Twilight." Begins Rarity. "It seems you have yourself in quite a predicament, is there anything we can do to help?"
Twilight begins to think as her friends talk.
"Ya, anything? Maybe we can come with you." Says Rainbow Dash.
Twilight denies that idea. "No, you can't come with me. There really isn't that much to do in there rather than just watch anyway."
"But what you can do." Twilight begins explaining her idea but before she really starts, Pinkie gasps. "You can try to gather information for me while I am in there."
"Good idea Twilight, just tell us what to do and we will do it." Says Applejack.
"Okay." Twilight looks at her friends and begins giving orders. "So I feel like I need to find out some more information on Luna, Celestia, and their parents. The only place I think I can get that information would be the old castle of the two sisters, so it would seem more sensible to check there first. The castle is big so I will have to split you up into groups to check different departments of the castle, I guess those departments can be the library, and the other rooms like the bedrooms and anywhere else you might find."
"Rarity? Go with Fluttershy to check the castle Library." Rarity nods.
"Applejack and Rainbow Dash? You two will be searching all of the other rooms in the castle."
"You can count on us!" Says Rainbow Dash.
Twilight continues to give orders. "And Pinkie? You can, uh.. Just, do whatever you want."
"Okie dokie lokie!" Says Pinkie Pie.
Twilight watches all of her friends depart from her house and picks up the book ready for another entry.
"Twilight?" Asks Spike who looks unsure.
"Yes? What's wrong?" Replies Twilight.
"Last time you read the book, you went from one Diary entry to another.. What if next time you dont come back? It doesn't seem like you have any control when you are in there."
Twilight takes a moment to think and then shows him the width of the book. "If I end up going through multiple entries don't worry, this book is only so long, see? Eventually the book will end and I will come back because there are only so many pages, it would only take a few hours."
"Okay.." Says Spike, still unsure about the Diary.
"I'll see you soon Spike, just watch over the house as I'm away." Says Twilight before she opens up the Diary to the correct page.
"Dear Diary."
The purple smoke immediately began to fill Twilight's eyes but like always when the smoke cleared, her fission came back. Twilight looked around to see where she was and found she was back in the castle, again.
Her eyelids lowered. “Really? Here again? It's not much of surprise If I end up here every time." However, her facial expression soon changed as she heard a voice coming from a room nearby.
“Tai, please show me how to use it!”
Twilight peaked her head into the room where Luna was standing next to her sister. Celestia had a book in front of her and was trying her hardest to read it but couldn't because Luna would not leave her alone. Celestia's mane was not only pink now, but the other colors that Twilight knew were there as well softly flowing in the air as if a gentle wind was blowing in the room and Luna looked a little older, her mane not yet in the colors Twilight knew. Luna was still younger than Twilight, but seemed to be about a year older than the Cutie Mark Crusaders in this diary entry.
“Luna, I can show you later, now please leave!” Celestia said in a striking voice not taking her eyes off of the book.
“Tia, you have been doing this so much to me lately! Not wanting to spend time with me, pushing me aside, ignoring me! Do you even know how that feels? To be shoved aside!?"
Celestia departed her eyes from the book as the situation took an unexpected turn and focused on Luna.
“Please don’t say that Luna, It’s just that I need to get ready to become a Princess and Mom is teaching me so much stuff about ruling. She’s been teaching me a lot lately and that is the only reason why it seems like I have been pushing you aside little sister.”
Tears start to well up in Luna's eyes as she felt like it has been a long time since she even made eye contact with her older sister.

Luna closes her eyes tightly for a second then shoots them open glaring at her big sister.
“I HATE YOU!” Luna suddenly yelled out at Celestia then started running out of the room passing Twilight. To both Celestia and Luna, these words felt like an arrow penetrating their souls.
As Luna passed by, Twilight felt a cold shiver running down into her very core.
“What was that..” Twilight thought to herself briefly before galloping after Luna who was already back in her room leaving the door wide open.
Twilight slowly proceeded into the room. To Twilight's surprise, just like herself, Luna was a massive book worm. In Luna's room there were many books all over the place, some of the books were blurred but very few she could actually read. Twilight read the names of the books she could see the names of “The History of Equestria vol.1“ and “Magic 101”.
Twilight gasped and quickly ran up to the first book. "The History of Equestria vol.1!? This is the first of only 5 volumes to this collection! I only have 4 and 5 because volumes 1 - 3 have been missing for at least 1000 years! I can't believe I'm seeing volume 1! A beautiful tan color and it even has the faint yellow glow along the spine just like the legends say!? They say only volumes 1 and 2 have that glow! Oh this is so exciting!" Twilight snapped herself back to the situation she was in. Luna was on her bed sobbing into her pillow.
“Why did I say that.. I'm so stupid!"
Suddenly her ears went up. She felt like someone was there but assuming it was Celestia she didn't turn around to look, she just talked as if her sister was there.
"Tia.. I'm so sorry.. I was so stupid! I didn't mean what I said, I don't hate you.. How could I ever hate you. If anything, I'm sure you.. Hate me.."
Luna started to cry harder into her pillow.
"Please don't hate me sister! With all that is going on I'm not thinking strait! If it wasn't for Night Sky I wouldn't know what to do, all the anger I wouldn't be able to let out, the pain.. You know what he is to me sister.."
Luna paused for a moment as her tears were slowing down, but not yet gone.
"I don't know if I've told you this yet, but remember all of those friends I said I had back in Magic Kinder Garden? A lot has changed since I've met Night Sky.. In Magic Kinder Garden I didn't actually have any friends. I feel so stupid for lying to you all these years! I was always trying to make friends and trying to make ponies laugh, and I did make them laugh.. At me.. But when Night Sky came, I finally had a friend. He became my backbone when I didn't have one, when ponies would laugh at me, he would laugh with me.."
Luna's tears came to a complete stop and she even started to smile a bit.
"I haven't been able to see him for a while because he is off helping his uncle with stuff, so I guess that is why I snapped at you earlier, but I'm going to be seeing him today. I don't know if you can forgive me or if you ever will, but.. Big sister? I'm sorry."
Luna waited for a response but didn't get one so she turned around and looked toward Twilight who now had tears streaming down her face. Luna then looked all around her room from her bed and saw no pony, even though nobody was there she felt better. There was silence in the room now, the only sound was of the pillow dripping tears onto the floor but that sound was soon overpowered by another.
“LUNA!” A voice echoed through the halls.
The King entered the room and looked very upset
“What did you say to your sister?” Asked Luna's father.
“I’m Sorry father, I wasn't thinking straight..” Luna replied.
Although Luna felt better than she did earlier, she still did feel sorry and not all of her negative emotions were gone.
“It’s okay Luna," Began the King. "I know that it must be hard for you not to get to spend much time with your sister any more and deep down I know you love her to much to hate her right?” He gave his daughter a smile.
“Yes father, could you tell my sister that I’m sorry?”
“I will sweetie, just make sure it doesn't happen again.”
The King smiled and gave Luna a hug before noticing the state in which her room stood in.
“Now it might be a good idea to clean up your room young lady, I know school is hard work but that doesn't mean you have to let your room be in such a mess.”
“Really?” Luna looked around at her room. "It's not like you live in here.. If it's a mess, I'm the only one who should care."
The stallion sighed and when he regained his breath, he spoke once more.
"Just clean it please."
It was clear to Luna that her father was disappointed in her and this extinguished what ever good feelings she had left. Luna still felt it was necessary to give a reply dis spite how she felt.
"Fine. I'll clean it later.."
The King smirked. "Sweetie?"
Luna made eye contact with her Dad. "Yes father?"
"I love you. Though it may not feel like it some times, just know that I do love you and always will my beloved daughter."
Luna smiled because that is just what she needed to hear.
"I love you too."
The King smiled back and exited her room. A few moments after her father's departure a voice is heard coming from outside Luna's bedroom, this voice caught her attention and pulled her to the window.
"Luna!"
Twilight attempted to see who it was but the purple smoke forbid that action. As Luna's name was called the purple smoke now with some black specks started flooding the room like a tsunami washing Twilight away into yet another diary entry. When the smoke disappeared Twilight was in a garden, and Luna was walking beside Night Sky.
"What were those black specks mixed with the purple smoke? That was different than before." Twilight added as a side note before changing her attention to Luna.
"So you're done helping your uncle?" Luna asked Night Sky.
"Ya, I actually did quite a bit of work while I was there so he let me come home early" He replied.
Luna and Night Sky both stopped beside a pond.
"What did you even have to do? You were gone for a few days" Luna looked at Night Sky with curiosity but the dark colt continued to look strait at the pond.
"I had to take care of some pests. Some unwanted bugs were trespassing on his land trying to make it their own so my uncle came and got me to take care of them. For years now they have been trying to take his land and for years I have been getting rid of them." Night Sky laughs. "But of course they are only bugs."
Luna laughs along with Night Sky. "Ya, bugs are annoying little things."
The conversation quickly turned to Luna.
"So Woona.."
Luna blushed and pushed Night Sky. "I told you, don't call me that! That's not my name. My name is Luna and only Luna, nothing else."
Night Sky smiled and repeated himself with a minor change in his wording. "So Luna, what have you been up to these past few days? Are you still having problems with your sister and parents?"
Luna's ears dropped slightly. "Well.. Ya, kinda.. It still bothers me that Tia is going to become this ruler of a castle while I'm still nothing special. I want to be important too, I want to be noticed, I don't want people to shove me aside."
"Luna? I'm sure you will be something very special some day, we're still young. Watch, in the future you are probably going to rule not only a castle, but the whole world too!"
Luna smiled at that idea. "Ya, that would be pretty awesome."
A few moments of silence passed as the two stood there gazing upon the pond in front of them before Luna spoke up.
"We aren't going to get that project done are we.."
Night Sky gasped when he clicked in to what she said. "The project! Right! Isn't that due Monday?"
Luna corrected him. "Wednesday, actually."
A sigh of relief came from the dark colt as Wednesday was more than five days away. "Oh good! We have time. Actually, what do you say we go over to my Dad's place right now to work on it? I was thinking we could do the project on the magic of joy. A project on the magic of joy, for Ms.Joy, seems perfect doesn't it?"
Luna giggles. "Ya, lets do it!"
Night Sky starts running off. "Last one there is a rotten carrot!"
Luna stood there not moving and noticing this, Night Sky stops. "Aww come on, It's no fun if you just stand there."
Luna begins walking toward him confusing Night Sky. "What are you doing?" He asks hoping for an answer but receives none. As soon as Luna comes within a foot of Night Sky she says something really fast and breaks into a full on sprint passing right by him.
"I'm not going to be a rotten carrot!"
Night Sky started galloping after her.
"Wait up! Luna!"
As soon as Luna's name was mentioned, he disappeared into a cloud of purple and black smoke. The smoke absorbed the scenery and filled Twilight's vision bringing her back into the real world. Just as Twilight could see her tree house once again, her door shot open with her friends pouring in.
Rainbow Dash spoke up. "Twilight! You'll never guess what we found!"
