They landed on the ground with a hard thud while their heads throbbed in pain from the sudden rush and bright light that had previously overtaken them. With confidence, they stood on shaking legs and started to sing again. Their voices screeched and wavered severely off-key.
Powerless.
The Dazzlings looked among the crowd of booing students that had previously been enslaved by them. The power of the Elements of Harmony had freed them and had broken the Dazzlings' control. The pendants that had once been their source of power lay shattered on the ground in jagged pieces. Adagio Dazzle looked to either side of her and saw her younger sisters Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze both looking at her with a mix of confusion and fear. Their eyes searched hers for a sign on what to do next. Adagio held the pieces of her shattered pendant close to her chest, hoping that they would miraculously fuse together and become whole again.
Her hopes were shattered just as her pendant was when the students began pelting the three sisters with food. With nowhere else to turn, the Dazzlings ran from the stage in shame. They ran, and ran, and ran as fast and as far as their legs would carry them. They didn't stop for anything or anyone. After what felt like running the equivalent of a 3K marathon, the sisters stopped to catch their breath in an alleyway concealed in the darkness of night. They wheezed and panted heavily, their chests burning, and hearts pounding in their heads.
Sonata, the youngest of the three, looked up at Adagio.
"Adagio, what happened?" she asked, tears flowing down her cheeks. "Why can't we sing anymore?"
Adagio was silent.
"Dagi...?" Sonata called. "Dagi, please say something."
Adagio only held out her hands, showing her shattered pendant to Sonata.
"That's why, Sonata," Adagio spoke solemnly. "I failed you both...again..."
"Dagi, you can't blame yourself," Sonata said, sniffling slightly. "We're a team, and Aria and I didn't do much but argue the whole time. It was our bad, right, Ari?"
Sonata turned to Aria, who hadn't said a word this entire time.
"No, Sonata, it's your fault," the cynical middle daughter growled. "If you hadn't been a complete idiot, we probably would have won!"
Angry tears fell from Sonata's eyes, and she glared at Aria.
"You never have anything nice to say, do you?!" she snapped.
"You know what, I've got something for you," Aria shot back. "Congratulations, Sonata, you're the reason we lost the fucking Battle of the Bands because you're nothing but a scatter-brained crybaby! You just couldn't stay focused on our mission!"
"That's not true!" Sonata shouted.
"You sure about that, Taco Tuesday?" Aria said mockingly.
"I only said it once, and I was hungry, okay?!" Sonata said, throwing her arms into the air.
"Well, thanks to you, we're all gonna be hungry," Aria said.
"Can't you think positive for once in your life?!" Sonata cried.
"What's so positive about our situation, Sonata?!" Aria shouted back. "We have no money, no food, no power, and if you hadn't noticed, our pendants were shattered by those good for nothing Rainbooms!! We're mortal now!!"
"So?!" Sonata asked harshly. "We can start over, and live happily ever after!"
"Sonata, this is real life and not one of your dumb fairy tales," Aria snarled. "There is no happily ever after!"
"Aria, that's enough," Adagio said quietly, but her words fell on deaf ears.
"Believing in happy endings are what always result in us losing, don't you realize that, Sonata?" Aria asked. "You're too damn happy."
"Well, someone's gotta make up for you being such a grump!" Sonata replied.
With a scoff, Aria began to circle Sonata slowly.
"Sonata, you're nothing more than a liability to us, don't you know that?"
"A w-what...?" Sonata asked.
"Oh, right, I forgot," Aria laughed. "Let me make it simple. We don't need you, Sonata."
Sonata gasped in shock as Aria's lips curled into a wicked grin.
"That's crazy," Sonata said. "We wouldn't be the Dazzlings without me."
"Of course we would," Aria said. "Without you, we'd be better off."
"Aria..." Adagio called louder this time. She was still being ignored.
"You're worthless," Aria sneered.
"No..." Sonata whispered.
"Pathetic..."
"Stop it," Sonata cried, throwing her hands over her ears.
"Useless..."
"Aria, please...stop," Sonata begged as tears streamed down her face. "Why are you doing this? We're sisters! We're family!!"
"You're so blind, Sonata," Aria chuckled. "Mom only kept you around because she felt sorry for you. You've always been the weakest link."
"No!" Sonata screamed as she sunk to her knees. "You're lying!"
"Mom never loved you, Sonata," Aria hissed. "In fact, you should have never been---"
"ENOUGH, ARIA!" Adagio shouted.
Aria whipped her head around to face her elder sister.
"Well, well; look who finally decided to speak," Aria said, crossing her arms. "Feels like a century since you said something, Adagio."
"Leave her alone, Aria," Adagio said.
"Tch, what are you gonna do, Miss high and mighty?" Aria scoffed. "Are you gonna drive us even further into the ground?"
Adagio clenched her fists. She had to suppress every nerve in her body to keep from sending it into Aria's jaw.
"Where do we go from here, Adagio?" Aria asked smugly. "Where will your brilliant leadership take us next?"
Adagio silently stared into Aria's intense violet eyes. Her clenched fists began to shake, and she could feel the shards of her pendant digging into her palm.
"Well!?" Aria said. "I'm waiting!"
Adagio remained silent, but her eyes shifted downwards. Her mouth moved, but no sound came out of it.
"ANSWER ME, DAMMIT!!!" Aria shouted growing impatient of waiting for an answer.
"I DON'T KNOW!" Adagio shouted back and turned away from Aria entirely.
Aria crossed her arms and smirked.
"You don't know?" she laughed. "You hear that, Sonata? Big sister doesn't know how to get us out of this mess, and she calls herself a leader..."
She looked toward Adagio, her eyes darkening.
"I'm sure you're aware of what's going to happen next..."
Those words sent a chill racing down Adagio's spine.
"What's gonna happen next?" Sonata quietly spoke up.
"Are you gonna tell her, or should I?" Aria asked, resting her hands on her hips.
"Don't say anything, Aria," Adagio muttered, her rose eyes seeming to turn red as she turned to glare at Aria.
"Why do you insist on protecting her, Adagio?!" Aria screamed. "She's gonna have to learn the truth somehow! It's gonna happen sooner or later..."
"What is she talking about, Dagi?" Sonata asked, in a shaky voice.
"It's nothing, Sonata," Adagio said. "Don't listen to her."
Sonata crawled over to Adagio, and she held Sonata tightly in her arms. She could feel her little sister trembling.
A cruel laugh passed Aria's lips.
"Listen to yourself, Adagio, you're in denial!" she sneered. "Our own 'fearless leader' can't accept the truth of what's to come!"
Sonata's body shook more as she looked at Aria in fear.
"Aria..." she whimpered. "You're scaring me."
Aria grinned maliciously and ripped Sonata from Adagio's arms, gripping her little sister's shoulders tightly. Sonata could only stare at Aria in fear as she struggled to get out of her grasp.
"Ow, stop! You're hurting me!" Sonata cried out, tears pouring from her eyes.
"Good," Aria said darkly, her grin never leaving her face. "The pain is only going to get worse."
"Wh-what do you mean?" asked Sonata, her voice quivering.
Aria laughed, almost insanely and started squeezing Sonata's shaking body harder.
"Don't you get it, Sonata?!" Aria screamed, insane chuckles passing her lips. "We're going to die!!"
A lump formed in Sonata's throat, and her shaking only got worse. Her big sister was losing or had already lost her mind. She turned back to Adagio and looked at her with pleading eyes.
"What are you waiting for, Adagio?!" Aria said wickedly, turning Sonata to face the eldest siren. "Tell her! Tell her the truth! She deserves to know!"
"Aria, stop!" Adagio yelled. "You're not making this situation any better!"
"Oh, I can make it better for all of us..." Aria said darkly.
She reached for the hem of her leggings and pulled out a jet black switchblade. She flipped up the blade and held it to Sonata's throat.
"Aria, you wouldn't dare..." Adagio growled, taking a step forward.
"Why bother delaying the inevitable?" Aria asked, pressing the blade into her sister's flesh.
"Dagi..." Sonata whimpered.
"I wouldn't trust her," said Aria with venom dripping in her words. She pressed her lips to Sonata's ear and whispered: "She just might get you killed."
"Sonata, you know I'd never hurt you," Adagio said. "You know that."
"After thousands of years of lying to your little sister, you still can't tell her the truth and expect her to trust you?!" Aria laughed cruelly. "Adagio, you are PATHETIC!!!"
"If you don't want to stay with us, Aria, just get out of here and leave Sonata out of it!!" Adagio screamed angrily.
Aria snickered, then suddenly, her expression grew grim. Her face paled and a stabbing pain shot through her chest. She looked down and saw a two-inch hole where her pendant once rested. Her dress was stained with a considerable amount of blood. It looked fresh as if someone had stabbed her then and there. Sonata followed her sister's gaze and her face contorted in horror. She wanted to scream but found that her voice was stuck in her throat. Aria let Sonata go, and she fell to the ground, the blade along with her. Adagio could only look on in shock as Aria began to cough, wheeze and hack violently.
Aria doubled over in pain and gripped at her chest as the blood seeped through her fingers. She crumpled to her knees and looked up at her sisters, specifically Adagio, with a weak, but sinister grin.
"Look at me, Adagio," Aria croaked. "Look at what you've done to us. This is all your fault."
Adagio couldn't speak. Her sister; her flesh, and blood was dying right in front of her, and there was nothing that she could do but watch.
"What would...ah...Mom think..?" Aria rasped. "Her 'precious' and 'perfect' Adagio couldn't even take care of her little sisters like she promised to. Such a...sh-shame...isn't it?"
A pained groan escaped Aria's lips just as blood began to seep from her mouth. Her skin paled further, but it also began to wrinkle and shrivel up. Her violet hair fell loose and started to turn grey, almost white. Panting heavily, she looked up to face her sisters one last time with a weak grin. Aria stood on shaking legs, although the pain was still intense and excruciating. She staggered toward Sonata and Adagio while the latter two backed away. Aria backed them into the brick wall, grinning sinisterly all the while.
"Do you...see what you've done..ugh...Adagio?" Aria choked out.
As she neared her last breaths, Aria's eyes began to sink into her now partially visible skull. She gently stroked her bony hand over Sonata's cheek, and then Adagio's, still glaring daggers at her elder sister.
"Enjoy the youth..while you still have it, but always remember...this was all your fault...sister...dearest..."
With those last words, Aria collapsed to the ground. Her body was entirely reduced to dust, and only her skeleton remained. The skeleton lay on the hard ground and slowly dissolved to dust, blowing away in the night breeze.
Sonata couldn't hold it back any longer and let out an ear-piercing shriek all while sobbing madly. Adagio quickly took her little sister into her arms and let her cry into her shoulder. Adagio tried her best to comfort Sonata but found that it wasn't doing any good.
"I don't wanna die, Dagi!" Sonata cried, beating her fists into her sister's chest. "I don't wanna die!! I DON'T WANNA DIE!! I DON'T WANNA DIE!!!"
"It's alright, Sonata," Adagio whispered soothingly as she stroked Sonata's cerulean hair. "We're gonna be okay. It's gonna be just...fine..."
Adagio's motherly resolve finally fell when she felt a warm substance running down her chest. Her heart dropped into her stomach and she feared the worst. She was going to die and leave Sonata to suffer alone. Her eyes involuntarily traveled down and she indeed saw blood on her chest, but it wasn't hers. Sonata looked up at her big sister with tear filled eyes. She was gripping at her chest almost pathetically.
"D-Dagi....was I...really as b-bad as...Aria said?" Sonata quietly asked.
"Of course not," Adagio replied, her voice breaking. "You...and Aria were the best sisters I've ever had. If Mother were here now, she would be extremely proud of us for making it this far."
"You mean...she really loved me..?" Sonata asked.
Adagio nodded and smiled tearfully.
"You should have seen her face when you were born," she said with a slight chuckle. "Believe it or not, but Aria was more excited about it than any of us."
"She was?" Sonata asked.
"She was," Adagio replied. "In fact, she practically begged Mother to let her hold you first."
Sonata giggled for a brief second before suddenly groaning in pain; her hands grasped at her chest. Adagio held her sister's hands as the painful episode ran its course. Tears were running down Sonata's wrinkling face, and her ragged breaths were close to finally ceasing. She smiled weakly and leaned up to gently kiss Adagio on the cheek.
"Dagi, b-before I go...will you sing that song?" she quietly asked. "The one M-Mama used to sing to us....Th-the lullaby."
Adagio nodded as tears began to fall down her face. Even knowing that she had lost her ability to sing just a short while ago, she began to hum a quiet tune in the native tongue of the sirens. Adagio held and slowly rocked Sonata in her arms, thinking back on the day that Sonata was born. She remembered how both of her sisters used to nuzzle into her arms as they slept when they were younger. She remembered hearing their mother praise her for being such a good big sister.
"Can I hold her, Mama? I wanna hold her first!" the young siren said excitedly.
"Of course, Aria, but be gentle."
The tiny baby was laid in Aria's waiting arms. Though she still slept, the baby smiled and cooed softly.
"She's beautiful, Mother," a young Adagio said, smiling at her two little sisters.
Her mother smiled lovingly and then turned to face her eldest daughter.
"Adagio, I want you to promise me something," she said, laying a hoof on her cheek.
"Yes, Mother?" Adagio replied.
"Celestia forbid it, but, if anything should happen to me, promise me that you will always protect your sisters no matter what."
Adagio smiled.
"I promise, Mother,"
"Mama, you never told us the baby's name," Aria said.
Mother Siren chuckled lightly and placed a tender hoof on Aria's shoulder.
"Her name is Sonata Dusk,"
Aria's violet eyes lit up, and she looked at her baby sister just as she opened her eyes for the very first time.
"Hi, Sonata, I'm Aria. I'm your big sister."
"Ah...b-ba..ba..." Sonata cooed and reached out to touch Aria's face. She giggled when she booped Aria's nose. Aria giggled and booped her right back.
"I think she likes you," Adagio giggled.
"You wanna hold her, Dagi?" Aria asked.
Adagio reached out and took Sonata in her arms. She smiled and gently kissed her on her small forehead.
"Hello, Sonata, I'm your big sister too," she whispered. "I promise that I'll always take care of you and Aria both. I love you."
"W..w-wuh..wuv-ooh... " Sonata attempted to repeat.
"Her first words..." Aria gasped. "She said her first words!"
"Wuv-ooh!" Sonata said again, this time with much more enthusiasm.
"I love you more!" Aria laughed.
Mother Siren gently took Sonata from Adagio's arms as she laughed and held her youngest daughter close.
"Wuv-ooh!" Sonata cooed.
"I love you too, my sweet little Sonata,"
Sonata giggled again before letting out an adorable yawn. All the excitement had tuckered out the little siren, and she slipped into a peaceful slumber. Adagio and Aria swam over their mother's shoulders and watched their little sister sleep soundly.
"I think you three are going to get along just fine."
Adagio's heart ached, and she held on to Sonata tighter, not wanting to let go. She refused to sing anymore. Sonata looked back up at Adagio, confused as to why she had stopped singing and felt her sister's tears drip onto her face.
"Please don't cry, Dagi," Sonata whispered. "I'm....gonna be okay. I'll see Mama again, and Aria too. I think she's gonna be alright."
"Sonata, please don't go!" Adagio pleaded. "I don't want you to! Please, stay with me!"
Sonata had all but faded away, as her final words sorrowfully passed her bloodied lips.
"Bye, D-Dagi...I love you."
"No, Sonata, please!" Adagio cried.
Those words. Those three little words had been Sonata's very first and her very last. With that, she faded to dust in Adagio's arms.
The eldest siren collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. Both of her sisters were gone, and it was all her fault. Aria had been right all along. She couldn't even be trusted to take care of her sisters.
So many emotions ran through Adagio all at once. Despair, anger, hopelessness, and guilt were only a handful of what she felt. Thunder boomed in the distance, and rain began to pour, quickly washing away the remaining ashes of her deceased sisters despite her best efforts to protect the last of their essence.
Adagio slammed her fists into the hard cement as her body trembled in rage. Pained hot tears ran down the siren's face.
"DAMN YOU, STARSWIRL!!!!" she screamed to the heavens. "DAMN YOU STRAIGHT TO TARTARUS!!!!"
Adagio soon found that she had no more strength left to keep herself conscious. Her throat was raw from screaming, and her body ached tremendously. She shivered from the chill of the storm and gave up all hope of going any further. She sat against the brick wall and waited for her imminent death to come, and she would welcome it with open arms. Adagio closed her eyes and hoped that she would perish in her sleep.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the ex-Dazzling," a sneering voice echoed in the distance.
Adagio groggily opened her eyes and saw the Rainbooms all standing above her. The rainbow haired one was grinning evilly at her.
"So, where's your little posse?" asked the cowgirl.
Princess Twilight Sparkle looked at the few ashes in Adagio's lap that had somehow survived the storm and turned to her fellow band mates.
"It appears that the other two are dead," she stated simply. "Without their source of power, a siren's body will deteriorate, eventually fading away to dust."
"So, why on earth is she still here?" the fashionista asked with disgust.
"I think she may still have pieces of her pendant," said Sunset Shimmer, glancing sideways at the shivering siren.
"You mean these?" the hyperactive cotton candy haired girl asked, holding the pieces of Adagio's shattered pendant in her hands.
Adagio's heart seemed to stop dead in her chest, and her body ran cold.
"H-h-how did you..." she choked.
"Wouldn't you like to know," the hyper girl said smugly.
Adagio looked on in sheer terror as the crazed girl threw the pieces to the ground. She could feel herself beginning to weaken and attempted to crawl over to the shattered remains of her pendant. However, she was stopped in her tracks by the shyest girl of the group, who held her away from her only chance of survival with quite formidable strength.
"No, please, don't!" Adagio pleaded.
"Shh, hush now," the shy girl whispered in her ear.
Adagio watched in horror as the other Rainbooms jumped and stomped on what was left of her precious pendant. She could feel herself wasting away. She was fading fast, and her hair was already turning silver in color.
Suddenly, the rainbow haired girl turned to her with a wicked grin and began walking toward her while cracking her knuckles. She stood in front of Adagio and only stared at her for a moment. She chuckled as she tightly balled up her fist.
"This one's for us!" she shouted and struck Adagio square in the jaw.
"This one's for the school!" She struck Adagio on the left side of her face and heard a satisfying crack. Blood spilled profusely from Adagio's nose, but Rainbow wound up for another punch.
"And this one's for everyone you hurt!!" She struck Adagio hard in the abdomen, knocking the wind out of her. She coughed and gasped for breath as her vision became clouded with stars.
"That's it, Rainbow, give 'er the 'ol one-two!" the cowgirl cheered.
The other Rainbooms followed suit and spurred Rainbow on. Adagio's blood splattered on Rainbow's face and clothes, but she didn't care. When she was finally done, she signaled to the shy one to let Adagio go. Adagio's body fell limp against the cold cement while the Rainbooms laughed at her.
"Go ahead; try to get up," Rainbow sneered. "I dare you."
Adagio was determined to get away somehow. She pushed herself up on her elbows and tried to crawl away. Before she could even get two feet, she felt a foot pressing hard into her back.
"You just don't know when to quit, do you?" Rainbow laughed. "Guess you need to learn another lesson."
Rainbow kicked Adagio in the stomach causing the siren to cry out in agony and roll across the ground. Just when Rainbow was about to deliver another blow, Sunset Shimmer rested a hand on her friend's shoulder.
"That's good enough, Dash," she said.
"Aw, man, but it was getting good!" Rainbow whined.
"I'll take it from here," Sunset said with an evil glint in her eye. "You go on. I'll catch up with you guys in a bit."
"Don't be too long, Sunny!" the pink one shouted. "I'm throwing a 'We Killed the Sirens' party at Sugarcube Corner!~"
"Don't worry, Pinkie," Sunset laughed. "This won't take long at all...~"
Sunset walked closer to Adagio. Her heels clacked ominously against the cement, and the sound reverberated against the brick walls. She stood well over the siren who moaned and writhed in agony beneath her.
Using the last of her remaining strength, Adagio weakly looked up at Sunset Shimmer, who only grinned devilishly.
"Not so tough now, huh, Dazzle?" she snickered.
"Please...have mercy..." Adagio whispered, tears pouring from her clouded eyes. "N-no more..."
Sunset Shimmer laughed evilly at the siren's final plea. Adagio was almost gone when Sunset suddenly positioned her foot over the siren's head.
"Now, it's time to finish you," she mockingly sang. "Good riddance."
Then, the world became black with a sickening crunch.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
A blood-curdling scream echoed through the streets of Canterlot City. Aria Blaze and Sonata Dusk shot up from their slumber. Aria groaned and angrily turned to Sonata.
"What the hell, Sonata?!" she asked with a yawn. "It's too early in the freaking morning for all that screaming."
"Ari, that wasn't me..." Sonata replied with fear in her voice.
Aria and Sonata both looked ahead to find their elder sister Adagio Dazzle screaming bloody murder. Sonata rushed to Adagio's side as Adagio sat panting heavily; a cold sweat was nearly soaking the hoodie she wore. Aria only sat back and watched. She saw the fear and panic in her elder sister's eyes. Her heart thumped wildly as adrenaline shot through her veins. She wanted to get up and run, but something was holding her down, almost like a supernatural force.
"Adagio, what's the matter?!" Sonata asked worriedly.
Adagio didn't answer. Instead, she stared into space, gripping the tattered blanket that covered her lower half with terribly shaking hands. She couldn't find her breath and began to hyperventilate.
"Dagi, it's okay!" Sonata assured the quivering siren. "It was just a bad dream!"
Adagio looked at her sister, and her breathing slowed to a steady pace, but her heart continued to race. Tears began to flow down Adagio's face, and she sobbed into her hands.
"Adagio," Aria asked, raising a brow. "Are...you okay?"
Sonata touched Adagio's shoulder, but just as soon as her hand made contact, Adagio quickly reeled away from her.
"Don't touch me!" she gasped.
"D-Dagi," Sonata whispered. "Please...just tell us what's wrong. Let us help you."
"Give her some space, Sonata!" Aria snapped. "Adagio can take care of herself."
Sonata turned and faced Aria, looking quite upset.
"She needs our help, Aria!" Sonata shouted. "If you're not going to do anything, just go back to bed!"
Aria slightly gasped at Sonata's mature tone.
"Fine," she replied and laid down to go back to sleep.
Even lying down on her makeshift pillow wasn't enough to block out Adagio's labored breaths. Aria shivered, and not just from the cold.
Looking at her sisters, Adagio could see the hideous decaying forms of them that she had seen in her dream. Wait, a dream? Had it all been a dream? Adagio looked at Aria and Sonata again to find them completely normal and unharmed. Adagio felt the tears pooling in her eyes again and she sobbed into her already clammy hands.
Aria sat up and looked at Adagio in mild concern that was hidden beneath a facade of annoyance. She didn't know why, but her hands were beginning to tremble. Why was she supposed to care? It was Adagio's fault that they were in this situation in the first place. It was her fault that they were living on the street. If it weren't for her being the leader, they would have won the Battle of the Bands. If all of this was happening because of Adagio, why did she feel....sorry for her? With a quick shake of her head, Aria stood.
"Where are you going?" Sonata asked.
"I'm going for a walk," Aria replied. "Don't follow me."
Without waiting for a reply, Aria began walking off into the cold night. She had intended for the walk to clear her head, but her mind still raced. Perhaps she would be better off if she didn't come back.
Sonata placed her hand on her sister's shoulder again with a sigh. Even though Adagio flinched a bit, she still let Sonata's hand rest upon her trembling form.
"Dagi, it's okay, I'm here now," Sonata said. "Don't worry about Aria, that stupid meanie."
Adagio still appeared to be staring into space, but she was watching Aria slowly begin to vanish from her sight. The whole world seemed to move in agonizing slow-motion; each step echoed in Adagio's head.
"NO!"
Adagio shot up to her knees and grasped Aria's wrist, looking up at her with pleading and tearful eyes.
"Please, don't go..." she whispered. "Please..."
Aria looked down at Adagio in absolute bewilderment. She would have expected this kind of behavior from Sonata, but not Adagio. Never Adagio. It almost scared her to see her sister like this. Aria didn't know what to do at that moment, yet she couldn't pull her hand away.
Finally giving in, Aria hesitantly wrapped her arms around Adagio and Adagio did the same to Aria, albeit, much tighter. She began to sob into Aria's shoulder. Aria was taken aback at the sudden gesture; so much so, that she almost lost her footing.
"I'm sorry!" Adagio sobbed. "I'm so sorry! This is all my fault! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!!!"
"What the--?! Is she actually taking the blame?" Aria thought. "God, Adagio, what happened to you?"
"Please don't leave, Aria," Adagio sobbed. "You two are all I've got left."
Aria snapped back to reality when she said that. Even after everything they'd been through in Equestria and the human world, they'd always stuck together. They were sisters; bonded by blood and the last of their kind. All that they had left, after losing everything they knew and held dear was each other.
Aria hid her face as tears of her own began to fall. She couldn't hold them back any longer as the dam she had put up over her emotions crumbled under the weight of reality.
"Dammit..." she cursed internally. "Just....dammit..."
"It's alright, Adagio," she whispered soothingly, letting out a shaky breath. "Let it out."
Sonata hugged Adagio from behind, and she could almost hear both of her sisters' breaking hearts.
"I'm sorry..." Adagio whispered again. "I'm sorry..."
"I know..." Aria replied, squeezing Adagio tighter.
"It's not your fault, Dagi," Sonata said. "We did this as a team, and look how close we got with you in the lead. You're the best big sis anyone could ask for."
"Mom would be proud, Adagio," Aria said, with a smile. "Don't let a silly little nightmare make you believe otherwise."
"They're right..." Adagio thought to herself. "It was just a dream, but...it is going to happen...We're going to die..."
Adagio shivered at the haunting thoughts. Now that they were mortal, she and her sisters would eventually pass away. However, were they fated to die sooner all because of a dream? There was no way that a dream could predict the future. Or could it...?
The damp streets of Canterlot City were silent once again, except for the sound of quiet sobbing coming from a dark alleyway concealed by the darkness of night.
