Princess Twilight Sparkle, the princess of friendship, sat in her royal chambers in Canterlot castle, as something strange was going on around the castle. Over twenty guards surrounded each of the princesses rooms, as the princesses of the sun, moon and love had not come out of their chambers for over 3 days. They had not had anything to eat or drink for over 3 days, and were assuming they had not slept either as almost every hour if the day they heard movement and loud sobs coming from each of their rooms.
Twilight sat on her queen sized bed, reading a book a fiction book including some sad romance in it, whilst sobbing just as loud into the book as the other princesses were in their own chambers.
Just then, there was a loud knock at a door and then a small voice could be heard saying,
"Hey Twilight, I'm back from the weather meeting!" It was Spike the dragon. By now he was a full grown dragon, with wings that were just bigger than a normal pegasus wing span. They were the same colour as his body, a light purple colour, yet not exactly lilac. His leafy green spikes had grown and now were double the size as they were when the show took place, but still rounded off at the top. Since Rainbow Dash left the weather team to join the Wonderbolts, and a year after got married to the co-captin, Soarin, they had no captain for the weather team, so Spike decided to take the job because ever since he had grown wings, Rainbow had brought him onto the weather team and taught him the baisics of flying and controlling the weather. Since then he had mastered the techniques that the cyan pegasus had taught him. Ponies like Cloudchaser and Thunderlane could have took the job, but they were married and had a foal to take care of now, so they retired from the team, even though they were both only in there mid thirties.
He heard loud sobs coming from inside of the room, so he placed his claws on the metal of the door handle, twisted it until it opened, and walked into the purple and magenta room. As he hadn't been in her royal chambers often, except from peeking his head through the door a couple of times but never fully stepping in to the grand room.
As he closed his jaw from the shock of how amazing his friends room was, he looked upon Twilights bed to find she was sobbing heavily into one of her most treasured books. He stared at the lilac alicorn with worry in his eyes, wondering what was wrong with his dear friend. He approached the sobbing purple princess and former element of harmony and lightly tapped her on the back.
Twilight removed her face from her book, revealing that her eyes were puffy and red. She had obviously been crying for a very long while, and it took a lot to make Twilight Sparkle cry. So many different thoughts fan through the green spiked dragons mind, she could have been hurt, disrespected, or simply had read another sad romance story. But that wouldn't have gotten her this upset though. She would had only shed a few tears and continued with her everyday. The only time she had cried like this was when her parents died from when they visited Appleloosa and had been crushed by a carrige which just about five and a half years ago now. So it must have been something to do with death.
As Spike wiped the tears from the alicorn mares eyes, she felt comfort and stopped crying. All was silent through the entire castle, including the other princesses royal chambers. It was a very unusal silence, one you didn't hear often when you live in a lively castle and have a hyperactive friend called Pinkie Pie.
Spike still stared at Twilight with worry and fear for her, but not in the romantic kind of stare, as they were both already taken by some pony. Twilight was engaged to Flash Sentry and Spike was currently dating Applejack.
He finally found the courage to ask her, "What's wrong?" Spike thought to himself, That was a stupid thing to ask, she'll never tell me now! Just then a lilac unicorn with a light blonde mane entered the room.
"Oh Spike, that certainly wasn't a stupid thing to ask. In fact, that was the easiest way you could have asked her," said the lilac unicorn mare. Spike stared at her in confusion, wondering who the hay she was.
Twilight finally found the courage to speak up and introduced Spike to the unfamiliar mare,
"Spike, this is my protégé and friend, Lucky Swirl. Her special talent is to hypnostise and read ponies minds," Spike took a step back from her at that comment, only soon after hearing the sound of a pair of very light giggles, coming from the only two mares who were present in the room.
"Don't worry Spike, I won't use it on you. In fact, the reason why I came to Twilight was so she could help me control my mind controlling magic. I only use it when I can sense something suspicious. I'm told sort of like pinkie sense works, only my ear and my eye twitch," explained Lucky Swirl, a friendly smile spread across her lilac muzzle.
Spike still didn't trust the made, yet he took a step closer to her. He looked at her, curious to her strange magic. Just then, a useful question came into mind.
"Then why did you read my mind earlier then?" He questioned with a sly grin across his face. Lucky Swirls smile turned into a big grin, her white teeth shining in the afternoon sun. But it wasn't really afternoon. It was actually almost nine pm. Twilights heart beat started to rise until she had trouble breathing. So many thoughts raced through her mind, They could be struggling, powerless, a villain could've had returned and took there power, wait, I just thought of that...
"Don't stress Twilight, I'm sure there all fine and dandy, they probably just fell asleep or something and there alarm didn't wake them," Lucky Swirl was obviously reading her mind, but wasn't so sure her self. Her eyes squeezed tightly shut, as it took a lot of power and energy to enter an alicorns thoughts that were over 500 years old. The spell could only be performed by unicorns with an extremely rare talent. Then, she let out a quiet squeal. Suddenly, her eyes shot open to reveal voidless, never ending white, almost glowing eyes.
Spike said to Twilight, "How come that never happened to us two? Especially you seen as your an alicorn," Twilight stared at Spike in disbelief, but Spike simply responded with, "I read the books you gave me for my birthday, Twilight."
"Well Spike, the actual reason her eyes didn't glow white for us is because that only happens when they read the mind of alicorns that are over the age of five hundred," she smiled at her amount of knowledge, studying really layer off.
Just then, the glow faded from Lucky Swirls eyes and then dropped to the floor because of the amount of energy that had just been absorbed from her body. She was speechless at what she had just witnessed. Twilight and Spike heard the large thump on the floor and noticed that it was the blond maned unicorn, just lying there without any energy on the floor. The former element of harmony rushed over to the almost lifeless unicorn, and questioned her what was going on. She replied slowly, but with very important information.
"Celestia...Luna...Cadence...gone," those were her past words before she died in front of her very own eyes. Twilight stared upon her lifeless body, tears forming in the corners in each of her deep purple eyes.
Then the realisation hit her. She must go check on the other princesses. She beckoned for Spike to follow her, and he did.
They galloped to the princesss chambers, the guards quickly uncovering the entrance for each of the three doors. She quickly rushed into each of them, finding that there was no movement. Tears fell from her eyes as she realised the truth.
They were all dead...
