The Tale of Storm Hatcher

Once upon a time, there lived a poor Pegasus stallion named Storm Hatcher, who flew through the skies of Equestria each day, to water the plants and creatures with his rain clouds.

One day, Storm Hatcher had finished his duties and was sitting in the soft grass watching the animals, when he noticed a large buck with the most majestic antlers he had ever seen. Being a very proud Pegasus, Storm Hatcher grew jealous of the buck, and wished to be as majestic as the animal, and so he went to a powerful wizard for help.

"Oh great Wizard," he said. "I have seen a buck in the forest with the most majestic antlers I have ever laid eyes on. I wish to be as majestic as he. May you give me antlers like the buck's, and in return I will water your gardens with my rain clouds each day."

The Wizard thought for a moment, and replied,

"I will grant you your wish, young Pegasus, but I am only able to give you one. In return for watering my gardens, I will give you one antler like the buck's."

Storm Hatcher agreed, and the Wizard cast his magic, and gave Storm Hatcher an antler just as majestic as both of the buck's antlers combined.

The next day, Storm Hatcher had finished watering the Wizard's gardens, when he spotted the Wizard's two pet lions fighting. He couldn't help but notice how incredibly mighty the lions were. Being as proud as ever, he grew jealous of the lions' might, and so he returned to the wizard.

"Oh great Wizard, I have spotted your lions fighting with great might. I wish to be as mighty as they. May you give me the might of a lion, and in return, I will water your gardens with my rain clouds, and harvest your crops each year from now on."

After thinking it over, the Wizard again agreed. With the cast of a spell, he gave Storm Hatcher the claw of a lion, with as much might as both of the lions' might combined.

Each day after that, Storm Hatcher returned to the Wizard after completing his duties, and wish for more, promising more and more in return.. Very soon, he had the tongue of a snake, so that he may be as wise as the Snake, the talon of an eagle, so that he may have the courage of the Eagle, the wing of a bat, so that he may be feared as much as the Bat, the leg of a lizard, so that he may be a quick as the Lizard, and the fang and tail of a dragon, so that he may be as powerful and live as long as the Dragon.

As time went on and Storm Hatcher grew more and more greedy, he began to change, until he no longer looked like a pony, but still he wanted more...

The next day, Storm Hatcher finished his duties for the wizard and went to him for a wish.

"Oh great Wizard," He said. "I have seen the King of Equestria, and how wealthy he is. I wish to be king instead of he. If you may make me king of Equestria, in return, I will do my duties to you, as well as provide you with a private tower in the palace."

The wizard agreed as always, and soon, Storm Hatcher was king of Equestria.

Storm Hatcher was quite content as king, and ruled happily without making a wish for years. But still, everyday, he did his duties for the Wizard. He soon grew tired of the duties, and wished to stop, but he did not go to the Wizard, because he was frightened that he may take back all he had given. Storm Hatcher devised a plan to trick the Wizard into relieving him of his debt.

Finally, Storm Hatcher was ready for his last wish. He finished his duties, and went to the Wizard in his private tower.

"Great Wizard, I have seen you cast spells over the years, and I wish to have powers such as yours. May you give me powers like yours, in return, I will make your daughters the heirs to my throne."

The Wizard agreed to this, as he loved his daughters very much and wanted the best for them, and as Storm Hatcher watched how quickly the Wizard had agreed, he decided to go  even further.

"Actually, Wizard, I wish to be even more powerful than you. I wish to be a god."

The Wizard hesitated. Making Storm Hatcher into a god would use up all his powers. Soon, he decided it was best for his daughters, and agreed to the new condition. With one last glow of magic, he made Storm Hatcher into a god.

Just as he became a god, Storm Hatcher knew he had tricked the Wizard. He swiftly locked him in the deepest dungeon, and forgot about the now-useless stallion. With his knew godhood, Storm Hatcher had been driven nearly mad with power, and used these powers to torment the ponies and create chaos throughout the land for years. Soon, he became chaos itself, and his body became even more distorted than before, until he was no longer a pony at all. When this was realized, he decided that "Storm Hatcher" no longer suited him, and so he changed his name to fit his new form: Discord.

Little did Discord know, the powerless wizard he had forgotten ages ago, with lots of rest, was able to manage one more spell. Using this spell, he sent a message to his daughters, telling them all that had happened, and how they are now heirs to the throne of Equestria, and must overthrow Discord in order to bring peace back to the land.

The Wizard's daughters knew what had to be done, and using six stones, carved the six elements that they believed would help to restore peace. They called them the Elements of Harmony, and using these six elements, they defeated the King of Chaos, turning him to stone, rescued their father, and shared their place on the throne as princesses. Very soon, peace and harmony were restored in Equestria for the first time since Discord took the throne, and the Wizard, the Princesses, and all of the ponies in the land lived happily for years to come.
