Twilight sat in the middle of the Canterlot Castle Library with a stack of history books in front of her. She had been pouring over what she had read and nothing seemed to help. Not one of these books help answer the questions that had been pondering her mind for the past few weeks. She had read every book she could find on the history of Equestria and before, but all she could find were tales of the past that she already knew. But what about before that? Nothing seemed to go back further than when Equestria was made and about a couple century before that.
I guess ponies didn't know how to record their history properly, Twilight thought bitterly to herself. Even though it was a long time ago, she still felt that some ponies should be able to write down what happened in their lives.
Twilight was currently reading a section of one of her books that told about how Princess Celestia and Princess Luna used the Elements of Harmony to stop Discord and trapped him in a prison of stone. Twilight rolled her eyes at the article out of frustration. She was starting to become increasingly annoyed at reading all these tales. Not that she didn't enjoy reading about Princess Celestia's and Princess Luna's accomplishments, she was just getting tired of reading articles about things she already knew, and weren't answering any of her questions. She was about to toss the book aside out of frustration when the doors to the Library suddenly opened. Twilight turned her attention away from the book and toward the front of the Library, where she saw her friends enter. They all approached the Alicorn, some looking upon her with concern expressions.
"Twilight, darling," Rarity said. "We've been looking everywhere for you."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "Until Spike told us you were here in Canterlot." Twilight looked at the young dragon, who was hiding behind Rarity, and glared at him.
"I'm sorry Twilight," Spike apologized, "but I'm just worried about you. You've been acting weird lately."
"It isn't Spike's fault Twilight," Applejack stated with a stern look. "He did the right thing if ya ask me." Twilight looked down at the floor and sighed before looking back at her friends.
"I'm sorry girls," she apologized. "I've just been busy doing some research lately." Applejack stepped closer to the Alicorn and raised an eyebrow at her.
"Ya wouldn't be trying to solve that mystery from that scroll now, would you?" Twilight was about to come up with some sort of excuse she could use to get out of this, but she knew Applejack would see right through her. She closed her eyes and lowered her head towards the floor. This was answer enough to the orange pony as she shook her head at Twilight.
"Twilight," she said. "Ya got to stop troubling yourself with this. It's not healthy."
Twilight had read a scroll a little over a month ago that told of an epic tale of something that may, or may not, have occurred ages ago. It was a tale of how the Elements of Harmony came to Earth and created Six races of Harmony, each race representing an Element. And for thousands of Years the creatures of the Earth lived in peace and flourished. But then, an evil spirit named Asmodeus appeared and created a vast army of evil monsters to destroy the world and rule it for himself. He lead a war that lasted for nearly a full century and had nearly succeeded. But he was finally defeated by a young Anthropony, a pony that could stand on two legs. But in doing so, the young Anthropony sacrificed himself and his entire race in order to save the ponies, who were the last of the six races. It was a tale that had stayed with Twilight all this time.
At first, Twilight though that it was just a story that somepony wrote for entertainment. She told her friends about this and they seemed to agree as well. But after a while, Twilight began to wonder if the story was actually real. She tried telling herself that she was over thinking it and that it was just a pony's tale. But her mind wouldn't let it go. She began to do some research on this subject and found nothing. A week later, she asked for the assistance of her friends to help in her research for the truth, which, they too, came up short. Soon they all began to give up in the search, even Spike thought it was pointless. But Twilight wouldn't give up. It was eating away at her and driving her up the wall. She would spend sleepless nights reading history book after history book to see if anything matched the contents of the scroll. After a couple weeks, Twilight's friends began to grow concern for their friend and tried to intervene. They told her that this was unhealthy and that she needed to stop. It took a while, but they were finally able to get Twilight to stop and get some proper rest.
But something was still itching away at her. Like it was telling her to continue her search. So she would secretly go to the Canterlot Library to continue her research. However, today she had to tell spike that she was heading to Canterlot on Royal business because the young dragon wouldn't stop asking her where she was going. But Spike had his suspicions and told the others where Twilight had gone. So here they were now, looking down at the purple Alicorn with great concern.
"Twilight," Rarity said. "I know you want to know the truth, but I don't think you're going to find it."
"You said so yourself," Spike added. "It's just might be some old pony's tale. A made up story."
"I know Spike," Twilight said. "But I can't shake this feeling of not knowing. It's driving me crazy!"
"Like a really bad itch that you can't reach?" Pinkie Pie asked with a smile.
"Exactly!" Twilight said, a little louder than she intended. Rarity looked sympathetically at the purple Alicorn as she stepped closer and placed a hoof on her shoulder.
"Twilight dear," she said. "Could this be because there are no more problems in Equestria for us to fix? And that you need a problem to solve in order to make things right?" Twilight quickly looked up at Rarity with a bewilderment.
"What are you talking about?" she asked. Rarity gave Twilight a concerned expression.
"Remember the time when you were late on writing a friendship report to Princess Celestia? There were no friendship problems for you to settle and it made you loose yourself. You had such a need to solve problems that you decided to create one of your own for you to fix. But it backfired and you ended up making things worse. I feel that this is what's happening here darling. You're trying to solve a problem when there is none to be solved and blowing things out of proportion."
"We're just worried about you Twilight," Fluttershy added. "We don't want to see you hurt yourself."
"Yeah," Pinkie Pie said with a sad face. "It's no fun seeing friends get hurt."
Twilight looked around at her friends and began to think about what they were telling her. She hadn't really thought about what she was doing. All she had been focused on was finding out the truth, or at least finding the author of that story. She didn't realize how much this affected her friends. She didn't want to see them like this.
She looked down towards the ground and sighed. Maybe she was taking this too far. Maybe there was no such thing as Anthroponies or Kaladar. Maybe all that she had read in that scroll was nothing more than a fairy tale. Now that she thought about it, her behavior was ridiculous. She almost couldn't believe that she got so worked up over some absurd fairy tale. She looked back up at her friends with a smile.
"You're right girls," Twilight said. "I'm sorry. I promise I'll give up on this 'quest'." This seemed to please everyone as they all gave her wide smiles before embracing her in a warm hug. After a moment or two, the group of friends separated from each other.
"Now come on," Pinkie Pie said. "Let's head back to Sugarcube Corner. I've got some great cupcakes made from a new recipe that I want you guys to try out."
"Oh boy," Spike said with glee as he and everyone else followed the bouncing pink pony out the door.
The moon was beginning to rise in the sky when Princess Twilight entered her bedroom of her new castle. She and her friends had had a small party at Sugarcube Corner because Pinkie wanted to celebrate on her new batch of cupcakes. The party lasted for a few hours as everyone was having too much fun to pay attention to the time. But when it started to get dark and everyone began to grow tired, the party had to come to an end.
Twilight was in her room about to get ready for bed. After the Castle had appeared, Spike had gotten his own room with Owlicious. Twilight had a room all to herself, which she didn't mind. It gave a chance to read books late at night without disturbing Spike from his sleep. It also gave her the privacy she had been wanting for a long while. She was about to climb into bed when something on her nightstand by her bed caught her eye.
It was the scroll that she had read weeks ago that began her search. The scroll that had driven her up the wall with theories and questions. Twilight would often read it almost every night before going to sleep, trying to find some hidden clue as to find the whereabouts of the ancient City of Harmony. Sometimes she would even have dreams of finding the lost city. She had spent a lot of time doing everything she could to find any sort of hint that it existed. She even sent a letter to Princess Celestia, asking if there was such a thing as Anthroponies or Kaladar. But strangely enough, she didn't receive a straight answer. All Twilight received was that the past was a complicated matter and that nothing is for certain, But that anything was possible. This didn't help Twilight in the slightest.
So she decided to search for answers elsewhere. She had even asked Discord himself if he knew of the Great War, but he had no memory of any sort of creatures such as Anthroponies or Kaladar, or even a being called Asmodeus. Her first instinct was to give up right then and there if Discord, who must be thousands of years older than Princess Celestia, didn't know anything about it. But something told her not to give up and she continues her search. But Twilight had grown frustrated with not finding an answer. She was about to look in the hall of Starswirl the Bearded when her friends interrupted her.
But now that Twilight thought about it, it was probably best. She wasted weeks of her time chasing a fairy tale and it got her nowhere but exhausted. She now looked at the scroll with disdain as she levitated the scroll and placed it in the back of her dresser drawer before crawling into bed. As of this moment, she wanted nothing to do with that thing. It had cause her nothing but a headache and nearly cost her her friends. She made a promise to them that she was done with this search and she was going to try to keep it. Twilight shook her head of any more thoughts as she closed her eyes and slowly began to drift to sleep.
