The Lunacy:An Odyssey remake
Bugs Bunny walked down The Great Hall not paying any attention to the fine white marble pillars, nor the paintings of that were interpretations him and the others that hung upon them. Rarely did the Great Cartoons look at them anymore, they had been gifts various 'Toons. 'Toons were the characters that did not live on Mount Persiflage and they often offered gifts to the Great Cartoons in hopes of receiving luck and good fortune, there was never a time when Greats interacted with plain 'Toons as a Great. 'Toons had never seen any of the Greats as they mainly spent time on Persiflage or with other Greats so when Greats were with plain 'Toons they had no reason of assuming they were Greats and assumed they were normal 'Toons. The reason for the 'Toons not knowing was mainly because the fans told them that 12 Great Cartoon Characters existed but refused to say who they were who they were, but if the fans said it, then they believed it to be true. They just knew that the Greats existed. Bugs walked to where the eleven other Greats gathered for meetings regarding 'Toons or to simply get together. There was a path that lead into a circle of large chairs, Bug's chair was by far the largest since he was the most important Great. All the other Greats sat in their chairs with the exception of Mewtwo who was nowhere to be found. Roger and Jessica Rabbit were giving each other flirty looks while Mickey Mouse was chatting with Arthur Kirkland about some 'Toon he had met.Zecora had brought some herbs and was mixing them, Betty Boop was leaning over the arms of hers and Zecora's chair watching Zecora at work. Felix the Cat had gotten up to get something and sat back down but instantly jumped up with a high pitched shriek unfortunately discovering the tack on his chair placed by, the now rolling on the floor, Woody Woodpecker. King Julian tapped his fingers on the arm of his chair, growing extremely impatient with waiting for the meeting to start. Julian crossed his arms, he had a party he was going to go to but couldn't really skip the meeting since he had already attended so many parties rather than meetings. Basil of Baker Street also sat quietly in his chair but he was staring into nothingness, the look on his face said he had something that way more important on his mind than what was going on around him. Bugs walked around the fountain of wine to his chair and plopped down into it, his actions being watched by ten pairs of eyes. Bugs opened his mouth to speak but shrugged and shook his head instead. He leaned all the way back into his chair and then decided to speak:
"Those 'Toons...It's like they never like to listen! I don't get the point of them talkin' bad about us when we go and help those guys.I mean really! We took our time to tell Lumpy, 'Hey! Don't touch the Piranha Plant. Hey,don't go into the woods anytime soon!' The first thing he does his go touch one and it bites off his arm! Then he goes to the woods for a camping trip. He ends up getting mauled to death by The Hyenas...Scar hasn't given them nothin' for days so of course they're gonna attack whatever goes near where they live! That's another 'Toon dead even though we gave them advice, I really don't know why we bother anymore. There was no point in sending Woody all the way down there to tell 'im."
The other Greats looked around at each other and nodded in agreement. Basil stood up in his seat, he cleared his throat loudly in order to get the attention of the others since he was significantly smaller than the others. Once he had at least gotten Bugs's attention he started:
"Well, there are some 'Toons who deserve our advice."
The others watched Basil but didn't seem to be fully understanding of where he was going with this.Basil gave them an disappointed stare. He continued:
"Any of you remember Derpy? The Great 'Toon War,anyone? She's still stuck on that island, she hasn't been home for ten years.Yet she was one of the greatest fighter in the war. You know what they did to her. Now she's stuck on that island with all those fans, those horrid fans. We all know that the fans don't plan to give her or her partner back anytime soon. They pretty much plan on keeping them there even though they'd much rather go home. Now she sits on that island like a pathetic creature. What do you think of it, Bugs?"
Basil pushed back his bangs and slightly smiled as he waited for a reply.Basil knew that they were going to actually get closure on the topic of Derpy Hooves since Mewtwo was absent. He also knew that the ten others felt the same way about the gray pony.Bugs leaned forward in his seat, waving a finger a Basil, and then spoke:
"That's kind of an interesting thing ya brought up there. It ain't like we can forget her,y'know? There ain't no 'Toon that did as much as she did for The War.She built a giant pony! She's only stuck there 'cause of Mewtwo, and the grudge he has against her.Ever since she managed to chop of the eye of that Dalek.Stuck on that island with those fans...But hey, Mewtwo only set 'em off course he didn't kill 'em.Now let's decide right now, who's for Derpy an' her pal gettin' home?"
Everyone raised their hands, including Bugs.Bugs counted the number of votes on his hands, also sticking up both legs and an ear to count everyone.Basil nodded and began to speak once more:
"It appears as though she'll return home after all.Woody, fly to the island and let the fans know that they're going to have to release Derpy and her partner.I shall take it upon myself to visit Ponyville,to tell Dinky to gather some fellow 'Toons for an idea I have in mind. She must know that she has to get those unwanted ponies out of her home.I'll send her to several places in which she shall learn more about her mother."
Woody nodded and flew off in the direction of the island. There was nothing more to say so the Greats dispersed, and Basil headed towards Ponyville. It was a very long and tiring walk, especially for a mouse as small as Basil.Perhaps he should've asked for a ride from Woody, but it was too late now.Basil stopped in his tracks as realized that he should've just gotten Toby.Things would've been much quicker.Basil couldn't help but facepalm himself for his mistake,he hadn't thought of Toby but instead of what to say to the young filly when he got there.Basil noticed a young boy, about six, with spikey blonde hair fighting with a bike. The young boy was rather short and wore a red shirt and black shorts. He considered hitching a ride from the boy but the boy would run away in terror from his bike as it seemed to wheel behind him and trip him.Basil sighed and looked for other ways of transport, and spotted another boy,who hair seemed to blend with his skin as his skin and hair was both yellow. He also wore a red shirt and blue shorts. This boy however was getting nearer rather quickly on a skateboard.Basil stepped back, and as the boy passed he managed to get onto the skateboard and hitched a ride to a forest.Ponyville was on the other side of this dark and eerie forest, and Basil managed to get through it with almost no problem but there were occasional attacks from bigger animals but when one is a genuis such as Basil,it was easy to escape using strategy.
Basil found the house where Dinky lived in,and knocked at the door. From the inside he could hear the arguments of several ponies, who were trying to help Dinky with her homework and all the answers from each of the voices inside was different. There would be a protest from Dinky every once in a while stating that they were all wrong and that her answer was right because that way the way Miss Cherilee showed them how to do it.There was silence and then another arguement began to brew on what to make for dinner.Basil knocked again, and Dinky managed to hear it this time. She answered the door, her expression was at first a mixture of unhappiness and stress. Her mane was a tad bit messy as earlier in the morning the ponies were argueing on how to do her mane for school.Dinky patted her mane down and a childish grin spread across her face, and then it dropped to a frown as a thought came to her mind wondering how long the mouse could've been standing there but then the grin crept back onto her face at the thought of having a visitor. She motioned for him to come in as she spoke:
"Hi!Come in!You can sit if you want!"
The young filly shut the door, and trotted to the table. Her horn glowed and as she pulled out a small chair, the chair shaking violently as she wasn't very good at magic. She pulled out larger chair, that had muffin designs carved into the top.Basil slightly flinched as though the chairs may spontaneously combust,it was Derpy's daughter after all.She held out a hoof in the general direction of the chairs. She began to speak again and now and again she would look down and rock back on her hooves:
"You can sit at the table if you want..You can even use my chair, but it's okay if you don't wanna..I just think it'd be nicer to sit and then you can say what you're here for.I can get some food if you're hungry..."
The filly looked up at a clock and then at the table, and then spoke with a cheery tone in her voice when an idea came to her:
"Dinner! You wanna stay for dinner?I don't know what we're gonna eat yet,though...That way we can talk!Wait, you're here to talk aren't you?Or are you here for them?Oh!Are you here for The Doctor?!He isn't here right now so maybe not...But dinner with a new friend would be nice!"
Basil sat down in Dinky's chair and Dinky hopped into the other chair, that Basil realized seemed more used than it should be.The owner of the chair hadn't been around in years. He eyed the continously argueing ponies, that just happened to be all mares that had known Derpy before she left for war.Several smells drifted from the kitchen, some heavenly and other burnt. Two mares burst out of the kitchen, each seemed to have made enough food that would feed Ponyville for a month. The differences in their culinary training was very obvious. The pony with orange fur and a curly carrot colored mane seemed to have the more appetizing choices while the other pony, who was of purple-pinkish fur and a magenta mane, had all the burnt platters. They placed the food to the table and the other mares who hadn't cooked, dug into the meal anyway. They ate the food as though they were savages, causing one of the mares at the end of the table to back away and let out a high-pitched squeak.Dinky and Basil put some food onto their plates before the rest of the food was gone.Basil noticed that Dinky cringed when she sniffed a muffin that she held in her hooves. He finished chewing the food in his mouth before asking:
"Why exactly are they here?Didn't your mother leave you in someone else's care?"
Dinky nibbled on the muffin, and put it down while sticking out her tongue with disgust and disappointment. She sighed before replying:
"They don't think that mama made correctest choice in leaving me with The Doctor...They say that he doesn't have the time to actually take care of a filly, since it looks like he disappears.I don't think mama was wrong,he would do the stuff he was supposed to for a while until they came."
Some of Dinky's mane fell over her eyes, and she huffed at it until it finally stayed off of her face. She crossed her forearms and mumbled under her breath:
"They don't let me play outside...They're mean..The Doctor let me play outside.."
A new argument began amongst the mares, and Dinky grabbed her plate and moved to a filly-sized table that was in the living room.Basil followed, leaving his plate behind. There were already chairs at the table, but all of them were very small. They both sat down, and Basil began to speak:
"Well then.If you ask my opinion, they should really leave. The Doctor seemed to be doing a fine job. What if your mother were to return and see that they went against what she thought was right?I've been around, you know.I heard that she was supposed to be home,so I came but it appears as though her return has been delayed. She's not gone, but she has managed to get stuck somewhere, probably on an island. When she does return, she'll find a way to fix this problem."
Dinky's eyes became wide when Basil mention that her mother was on an island.Could it really be true? She looked at the mares that had seemed to take over her home, eat their food and used their things as though it belonged to them.Dinky sighed at the possibility of her mother's return not being true, and began to roll around a couple of items on her plate using her fork. She focused of the food as she spoke:
"Y'know...Even though some of these are mama's friends..It's kinda like they don't remember her.And it looks like they wanna stay here, forever.Or at least until I become a mare. But when I do become a mare,I wonder what they're gonna do.Maybe they won't let me in my house and keep our stuff.."
Basil frowned,and then replied:
"It seems as though you need your mother even more than ever. She would probably know how to deal with them.Imagine seeing her in the doorway, standing proudly just as she did before. She visited my home once,on her way back.Smarter than she looked I must say,but very clumsy. Some people feared what she could do by simply tripping over her own feet.If these ponies saw her now, they'd most definetely be in for harsh remarks."
Basil peered up at the sky through the window and continued:
"It appears to be getting dark,I suppose I'll have to be on my way soon. Before I go,I suggest that you gather the ponies into the town for a meeting.I know it may be hard for you to do yourself, but you must.Infront of the town ask these ponies to leave your home alone, and that you are fine just as things were. Then, you should travel about the land for news of your mother. There are several people you should visit on your journey.First you should visit Snagglepuss, then you should visit Kyle. These two may know of news of your mother. If you find out that she's..still missing, then you should return and share the news. After that, you should decide how to deal with these other ponies within your home. You should drive them out of your home using force, since speaking up against seems to have no effect.I must go now,but remember what I told you."
Basil got down from his chair, and headed for the door. While he was halfway to the door, finally replied:
"Um..Thanks for the idea!I won't forget to do those things you said,I'll write them down in my schoolbook!Do you gotta go now though? You can stay for dessert or stay longerer if you want."
Basil smiled politely and answered her:
"I do apologize, but I must go.I have to get to Perisflage.Perhaps I could take your offer another time, and bring something also."
And on that note Basil walked to the door.Dinky stood up and opened the door for him,as he was to short to open it himself. After he left,Dinky thought to herself to where she had heard of Perisflage. It suddenly clicked in her mind, that she had heard of it in class.Perisflage,as in the mountain Perisflage. That's where the Greats lived. She had just been sitting there with a Great.Dinky trotted back to the table, dancing on the inside with happiness that she had just been with a Great. She sat down in the missing family member's chair, joining the mares. All of them became quiet as there was the sound of hoofsteps descending the stairs.Doctor Whooves entered the room, his mane was messy and he was sweating as though he had been running about all day.The mares would look at him,and then at each other. One of them spoke, the scrutiny unhidden in her voice:
"Where have you been?"
The Doctor replied:
"Places you wouldn't know of,of course! You wouldn't understand really, even if I did happen to try and explain it."
The mare replied silently with a stare that demanded an explanation. The Doctor started to explain, quickly and exaggerated movements.Dinky didn't catch anything besides something about a big ball, and something about wibbly-wobbly timey wimey stuff.Dinky looked at the mares, and it seemed that they didn't understand either. The Doctor headed into the kitchen and came out with a two pieces of banana. He tossed one to Dinky. He raised the banana piece he kept for himself, and stated while grinning:
"They are a good source of potassium you know."
Dinky smiled and began to eat her piece of the banana, and The Doctor went back up the stairs again.A slight murmur arose from the mares, about how what The Doctor had said.Eventually the conversation into a loud one, laughter floating about the room as they ridculed The Doctor. One of the mare's took away the rest of the banana Dinky had left. She mumbled something about too much potassium being in it,and Dinky reached across the table for the banana and the mare would just hold it away from her even father.Remembering Basil's words,Dinky sat straight up in her seat and began to speak:
"Hey!Can you just stop? You guys have been here forever, and you're meanies. And loud! It hurts my ears.I don't like to have to put the pillow on my head so I don't hear you I wanna put the pillow under my head like normal!Tomorrow I'm gonna get all of Ponyville to come and see when I tell you to get outta my house. Why don't you ever go home anyway?"
The mares stared at her, expecting Dinky to turn back into a complete filly and sink silently back in her chair. They waited. They waited some more.Dinky was most definetely not backing down this time. The orange mare answered:
"Dinky...I don't know who it is,but someone is teaching you to act this way.Nopony is going to gather because you said so."
Dinky held her head up high and replied:
"You don't know that. You don't know everything. What if I did get Ponyville to come? What comes next, huh? You'll finally go?That way I can be happy in my house?"
Dinky stuck out her tongue at the mare. The other mare who had cooked replied:
"Dinky..It's your house,so all this stuff is yours. But who was that 'Toon who was here earlier?Did he say anything about Derpy?"
Dinky turned away to hide her face and hung her head in false sadness, but kept her voice steady enough as she spoke:
"If he did say anything about mama,I wouldn't believe it.I wouldn't even believe it if Twilight said she had gone to the future and said it was true. And that 'Toon was just a friend of ours."
Dinky turned back, her expression was plain although she knew more of their visitor. The mares turned back to each other and began to talk.Dinky went upstairs and brushed her teeth. She dove into her bed and pulled the covers over herself. She lied there for a while,as she thought about tomorrow and the journey she would have to make about finding her mother.
