A Silent Cry

Waves. The rythmic sound of waves crashing on the beach brought her out of her stupor. She laid there on the cold, wet, sand, struggling to return to the world of the conscious. However, the surf wasn't the only thing that awoke her. There were voices, faint, but nearby. She tried to reach out, to speak, to alert these voices, but she had no strength in her soaked and seaweed covered body. But, perhaps she did not need to, as the voices were getting closer, clearer. Now she could tell the two voices apart. There was one mare and one stallion. She could vaguely feel her body being lifted and carried away and with that, her mind retreated into the darkness.

The filly couldn't move, she was frozen with fear and shock. She didn't even notice that she was screaming at the top of her lungs. She didn't care whether she was or not or if she knew why. All she could do is watch her father die in front of her.

Her island home was just besieged by these metallic mechanical beasts that look like centaurs and seem to make unicorns writhe in agony by just their mere presence. Many were able to escape while carrying a good number of the unicorns with them. Others were captured and those who fought back were killed on sight. The filly had just managed to drag her unicorn father behind a bramble patch not to far from the village when one of the metal centaurs approached. Fortunately it did not sense the two behind the bramble patch but zeroed in on a mother and daughter hiding behind a bush across the clearing. The filly jumped out from behind the bramble throwing a small stone at the beast. Having its attention on her, the filly fled in the opposite direction allowing the mother and daughter escape. The filly could have flown off but she saw what happened to the other pegasi who tried to fly away and she needed to make sure those two had the best chance to get to safety. All was going well until the filly tripped on an exposed root. The filly tumbled and rolled to a stop but before she could recover the monster was on top of her, these beasts being quite fast for their stocky build, cutting off any means of escape. All she could do is try to scoot away. Somehow the filly's father, despite his pain, stood strong between the monster and his daughter. The unicorn's horn glowed as the metal beast charged it's cannon, but instead of a wall of energy shielding him and his daughter, his horn backfired in a powerful wave of energy knocking the filly and the beast to the ground.

Time seemed to slow as the filly watched her father fall toward her, his eye's dull where they used to shine with life. Fear melted away to the burning rage that consumed her entire being. The filly was on her hooves in an instant, staring the mechanical monster down with a deathly gaze. The monster having righted itself, faltered, not because of murderous look it was getting but the energy arcing off the filly. Her mane and tail that started out grey was now a brilliant gold that was blowing in the sudden localized wind storm. With a thunderous roar the filly charged the monster.

Mush later after the dust has settled, the filly sat on her haunches in near disbelief. In front of her was a pile of slag where the metal monstrosity used to be. The obvious proof in front of her told her that what she thought was an hallucination in her rage filled charge that she somehow shot a lightning bolt. In light of what she did to the degree in where the adults that fought back had failed, she could not be trusted around any pony anymore. "HOPE!" a voice called though the filly barely registered it. A bat pony mare landed several hoof breaths away, her slitted eyes quickly surveyed the scene. She stiffened when she saw her husband laying lifeless on the ground. "He died," Hope whispered loud enough for the mare to hear, "trying to protect me." Tears started to pour down the fillie's cheeks, "After I tried to save him and two others, and I killed it, after he died using his horn to PROTECT ME." Hope yelled in her grief toward her mother who quickly moved to comfort her daughter only to receive a mild shock from her bat wing. Hope immediately moved away out of hooves reach, "Please, I don't want you hurt. I killed it like they killed others." The mare moved forward bringing her daughter into a hug, "Oh, my little Silent Hope, you did what you had to do, just like your father did." With that she picked up her daughter and flew off into the darkening sky.

Far away across a vast ocean to the east lies a continent, a nation of Equestria, it's inhabitants oblivious to the events that transpired on the lonely island, until now. In a castle set into the side of a mountain were two royal sisters. The eldest sister has made her way through the castle to relieve her sister and raise the sun. Entering the room she finds her sister weeping bitterly. She was at her sister's side at an instant, "Luna, what is wrong?"

"It pains us, Tia, that there is some pony out there willing to murder defenseless ponies for seemingly no reason of warning."

"I do not understand Luna, if there was an attack wouldn't we be alerted of it?"

"It was not an attack on our lands but on an island with a peaceful tribe of ponies, we only learned about it through a filly who had just relived the nightmare in her dreams who must have somehow fled to Equestria." Luna sighed, "Celestia, the attack was made through the use of mechanical centaurs, that looked like they could easily nutralise most unicorns." This information deeply troubled Celestia, there was an unknown enemy with a powerful weapon possibly waiting to strike.

"Tell me what you have learned."
