Day 3: The Wonderbolt Tickets, by Rainbow Dash

Spike, write this down, will ya?

'Sup?

The name’s Dash, Rainbow Danger Dash. I work with the weather team, fly around, like, really fast, practice stunts so I can one day amaze the Wonderbolts, and did I mention how fast I can fly? Yeah, I’m basically, like, the most awesome thing alive!

So anyway, I was just chillin’ around. Ya know, takin' a nap, when I found this wierd letter from this Doctor, who’s the 611th Fan of somepony named ‘Who’ or something, askin' me to write him something about somethin' that happened to me recently. I thought it was kinda sketchy at first, so I asked my friends about it. Turns out, Twilight and Applejack said they got letters too. Twilight basically wrote about books (egghead~), and AJ wrote about apples. So, yeah, get ready for me to write somethin' 20% cooler than that!

Bet you’ll like it!

Your Awesome Writer,

I knew this day was just going to be awesome right from the start! It turned out a bit weird and unexpected, though, but it was still awesome! It all started when I woke up on the most awesome way. I woke up (like, dah, I just said that), and I flew up with an awesome flip and landed perfectly on my hooves, all on purpose!

Next, pretty much the usual; shower with rainwater, grass pancakes for breakfast, blah, blah, blah. Boring! If this story is suppose to be boring, then that would basically be Twilight’s story!

(I made complete sure Twilight never saw that paragraph ever! Please don't mention this in your review, or that I tried to hide this to cover for Rainbow Dash. *Twilight might find out!*

-Spike)

So, finally we’re at the part where it gets good, the mail! When I flew down to the ground to check my mail box, I found the package I’ve been waiting for; the tickets to the Wonderbolt show in Manehatten! How awesome is that!?

I would have bought seven tickets, one for each of my friends and Spike, but I could only afford two. I’m sure the others would have been cool with it. Not like I have any favorites or anything. (and if I do, it's Pinkie Pie)

“Hey, Pinkie, wanna go see the Wonderbolts with me?”

“Sorry, but the Cakes and I have a big order to fill, and they could definitely use an extra set of hooves…”

***

“Hey, A.J., wanna go see the Wonderbolts with me?”

“Sorry, but I'm a-gonna have t’ work hard in order t' make up f'r all the apples that had been infested; might take months t' do…”

***

“Hey, Twi', wanna go see the Wonderbolts with me?”

“Sorry, Rainbow, but there’s a bit of a political crisis with the government of Manehatten; they seem to have a major problem balancing their taxes and-”

“- Boring! Spike, do you wanna see the Wonderbolts?”

“Sorry, Twilight needs me for this. I’m her number-one assistant!”

***

“Hey Flutters', wanna go see the Wonderbolts with me?”

“Oh… I, um, hate to be rude, but, I have this hyena, and he’s sick, and I have to… epp! Oh, I hope I’m not disappointing you… I’m so sorry Rainbow Dash…”

***

“Hey, Rarity, do you wanna see the Wonderbolts?”

“I am sorry, Rainbow Dash, but trottlish cow-coloured jackets have been rumored to be back in next season; so, I need to hurry and get started before it becomes common and overused.”

***

So, basically I kinda got my tickets two days before the Wonderbolts headed for Manehatten, and I tried to ask all my friends (totally not in a particular order) if they wanted to go, but they were all busy at, like, the worst time to be busy! So, I headed for the train, and said my goodbyes to everypony before I had set off to Manehatten for a few days to see the Wonderbolts.

When I got there, you would never believe how long the line for the Wonderbolt stadium was! I guess that goes to show ya just how awesome the Wonderbolts are, but it was still sooo loooong and borrrrring!!!! So, I sat down on a bench to count my bits to see if I could hit the fast-lane, my kind of line.

“... 'ey, 'scuse me?” asked a light blue pegasus stallion with a dark blue, curly mane, and an hourglass cutiemark. He was, like, already sitting there, on the bench I just happened to had sat on; it was a near-by seat.

“Yeah, what-a ya want?” I asked.

“Have we meet? Ya look familiar.”

        “I don’t think we had.” I said.

“Are ya sure? You look extremely familiar to me.”

“Yeah, and you don’t.” I turned to him with a raised eyebrow. “Is that a pocket-watch?” I asked. Somehow I got a little curious.

“Ah, it’s nothin'. It’s been with me my whole life.”

“You use it to keep track of time? Is that your special talent?”

“‘Time’, 'special talent’? Ha! Nah, I usually get the afternoon and the mornin' mixed up I’m so dull sometimes. I never open the pocket-watch, really, it’s useless; just a pocket watch.”

“... o…kay...” I said awkwardly. "So, you from around here? You sure do sound like it."

"Um... I don't know, actually. I just... got here? I dunno, I aint rememberin' much..."

"..."

“... so, what are you doin'?”

“Countin’ my bits to see if I can hit the speed-line to see the Wonderbolts.”

“Oh, the Wonderbolt? Oh how I’ve always wanted to see the Wonderbolts!”

“Oh, really? You like the Wonderbolts too?”

“Yeah, well, of course. I mean, I’m a pegasus, what am I suppose to like, labor? Crape, that’s an Earthpony thing.”

        “Well, you're racist.”

        “Am I?”

        “Nah, your not!

The stallion stuck a tongue, then I face-hoofed; the feather-brain! This was getting ridiculous at this point, but I hadn’t even got to the weird part yet. So, basically what happened next was...

“I’m John Smith. What’s your name?”

“I- what? I… okay, what kind of name is that?

“I don’t know, I was born with it. Ask my moms.”

“You're-… I dunno; you're weird, you're Manehatten accent is weird.”

“You're weird; your rainbow-mane is weird.”

        “... tushay… the name’s Rainbow Dash.”

“Hmm, cool name. Nice to meetcha."

“Thanks, and I guess your accent is kinda cool. Say… I just happened to have an extra ticket; wanna’ go?”

“You kiddin'? Hay yeah I'll go! So, how about the bits for the shortcut? Do ya think there’s enough for the both of us?”

“Oh, ah... horse-apples, I lost count! Here, I’ll restart, you go and check the price, then you canter back here and we'll do the math.”

“'Ey, I never knew you could do math!

        “Just shut up and go.”

        "Pft, yeah, sure."

        “So, how much?”

        “Four bits per pony.”

“Ouch… luckily I have twelve, I’m always prepared!”

        “Are you rich?”

        “Um… no…”

“... that’s basically your two-week’s worth of allowance, isn’t it?”

“How old do you think I am!?”

        “Um… 15…?”

“Dude, I live in my own place; drink cider… when there’s some left... still!”

“All right, all right, fine. So, ready to canter in the fast-lane!?”

        “You bet!”

So, we were finally off as we laughed like a bunch of psychos and yelled ‘have fun in the slow-line!’, which pretty much got popcorn and some cool free stuff thrown at us. I could have sworn I felt a shake from the ground and a small sound of an explosion; it made me stop for a second, and Smith asked why I did, but told him it was nothing and continued to run. Well, I thought it was nothing, but what happened next might have something to do with it.

The fast-lane may had been quicker, but it still took such a long time to get through, and soon we were finally there! When we did, there were, like, a lot of seats taken, but not all of them were, so we managed to find the best seat in the house! It was high up, the highest we could get, perfect enough to be able to see the whole show!

The show was awesome! The Wonderbolts raced, did tricks, flew in the air, and all that cool stuff the Wonderbolts always do! But then everything changed when Spitfire was about to shot into the air for the finale; but, then some random Wonderbolt flew in her way outta nowhere, then he was shot by a laser!

Okay, I’ll admit now that I lied about how I got up in the morning, I do that sometimes. But this I swear this is true! Everypony panicked, and the staff tried to calm them down and get organized and stuff! They were all 'everypony, calm down!' and 'everypony get in line and evacuate!' and 'mares and foals first!' and all that. I couldn’t believe my eyes! The dude who took Spitfire’s place was turned into skeleton after he was shot, then just fell down! And all I could hear from that was a really small ‘Zip’ sound! And as if things were already crazy enough, then came this huge explosion right in the middle of the stadium! I flew outta there as fast as I could to get away from all that!

        “Wow… that's-… just wow… Celestia that's nuts, wasn’t it, Smith… Smith…? John Smith!?”

Yeah, right at that moment, it was my turn to panic. I flew back to see if he left in another direction-

“Help! My wing, it’s stuck! Somepony help!!!”

“I gotcha, buddy!” I hollered as I swooped down to save him. When I landed, I tried to lift the stupid hoop; but it was too heavy, the thing didn’t budge! "Don’t worry, you're almost out!" I lied. "Just a little more…!" I lied again; I was hardly even close to being close to get that heavy thing off of him!

“It’s no use, isn't it?” Smith asked weakly with a grunt.

        “'Curse not! I can getcha out… I’ll-… I’llllll-… I’ll get some help!”

“No, it’s no use; you’ll just waste time. Look… - gah, ouch, this hurts - you’ll just… mmf get hurt… maybe even killed… just leave me, alright…? I had a good run… gasp I don’t care how old you really are, or how young I really am… just save yourself, I’m sure you have lots of friends and family you know for sure you have…”

“W-what do you mean…?” I asked; the last part didn't make sense to me.

“Well, you know that feelin' that- grr that you just started to exist suddenly, phfff right on a random bench, with a bunch of random memories that seem real yet you’re just so sure how real it is…?”

“Um, no, not really…” I answered

        “Well…” he chuckled with irony. “... I don’t know either… I’m not John Smith, am I…? Who am I then… what am I...?”

        “Well, I don’t know! Your John Smith… a-annnnd you're a pegasus, and a Wonderbolt fan, and… ah…-”

        “- And what else?

“Well, I. Don't. Know! I just meet you for pony sake!”

“I’m just a pegasus, am I? Jus' born on a bench with fake memories; I'm apparently a fan of the Wonderbolts just because I'm a pegasus, meet a pegasus and jeered like one, and now I will die a pegasus!”

“Don't say that... that’s racist...” I cooed softly and jokingly. He smiled with a tear in his eye.

        “You know what…?” he asked.

        “What?”

“I think maybe I could have just-… grr… gah…-” he slowly stated as pulled his wing out. “- wiggled my way out instead of pull! Hah... funny, ay?” he asked with a proud grin.

(Okay, the only reason I continue this one and say what happened next is because I was offered tickets for the next Wonderbolts show. Happy!?)

“Oh! Thank Celestia!” I as before I hugged him tight. He hugged back, then suddenly came another explosion, not far from where we were stood; so we broke up.

“Alright, ready?” Smith asked.

“Hay yeah!”

We both before before another explosion happened right where we stood a moment ago; luckily we flew before that happened. I managed to handle it a bit more; but Smith on the other hoof…

“RAINBOW DASH!!!” he cried as he spun in circles outta control.

“I gotcho!” I yelled as I caught him.

“Ya know, maybe I’m suppose to be the hero and you the damsel?”

“Hey, I thought you were racist; now your sexist too!?”

“Just a funny thought!”

“Oh, whatever!” I yelled, and then… thud!

“Rainbow… Rainbow Dash… are ya there…? ~Hello…? 'Ey, wake up...! Ah! There you are! I thought the reaper-pony took ya for a moment there!”

“Smith…?”

“Shush. Don’t worry, everything’s fine now. Look, we’re alive! But the stadium… alright, so everything isn’t... but hey, we are!”

        “Heh...yeah… pony-feathers, what just happened!?”

“Well... ya pretty much hit'chor head on a poll while we... talked. But it's a good ya have such a thick skull!"

“Gee, thanks. That last part totally didn't insult me at all!"

“No problem! So, the show and explosions; that was fun, wasn’t it?”

“Are you out… OF YOUR FLYIN' FEATHER MIND!?” I finally got back to my senses... and then I lost it. “W-we-… we could have been killed! You could of died! I could have died! AWonderbolt died and I don’t even know his, and I know all of them!”

        “Dash, we-”

“SHUT UP! I COULD HAVE DIED! I COULD HAVE DIED! I! COULD! HAVE! DIEEEE-” I yelled on the top of my lungs 'till Smith gaped my mouth with his left front hoof.

“Yes, yes you could… but you didn’t, did you?” he hit. After he waited a shot while for me to calm down, he released his hoof and kept it on my cheek.

        “I-… I-…”

“Look, answer me. Did. You. Die?

        “Well-… but-…”

“No ‘but’s Dash, did you, or did you not die?”

        “I-… no… but-”

“Ah, ah, ah. That’s it; that’s all I needed to hear. That’s all I care about right now. That’s all I care about at all. All I care about is rather or not you're safe and alive!” he uplifted. “Dash…”

He waited for me too look at him, but I continued to look away into the distance.

“Dash…?” he repeated. The silence continued. “Dash, look at me…” he repeated. “Look. At. Me!”

He slide his hoof of my cheek, down to the bottom of my chin, then pushed my head up to make me face him.

(And I didn’t resist one bit… for some reason…)

“There. Now, look here, Dash, as long as you focus on the fact that you are alive, and forget the fact that that will end one day, imagine how much better and cooler life would be? Remember that…”

He got up.

        “Wait…”

        “I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”

He turned.

“No… no, don’t go!” I called, then got back on my hooves. “W-wait! Wait! Wait, come back!”

He cantered away.

“Ma’am.” said a guard pony behind me. “We need this area cleared. You need to leave this rubble, now!

        “But-”

        “I said leave!

        “But-… but-…”

“-... John Smith…”

I never spoke of John Smith to anypony since that day, 'til now. It’s not like that sissy movie Rarity once obsessed with or anything...

So, what did I learn…? I learned that… life is precious, and every moment counts. Every good thing must be cherished and all the bad things forgotton unless it needs to be handled.

... Darn it! Now this story is making me sappy!
