Chapter 1: Flight or Death!

Stephanie is a sixteen year old girl and was a sophomore in high school. Since she was just five years old, she has been practicing Aerokinesis. She was soon able to fly at the age of fourteen after years of practicing. Stephanie also has a best friend named Icarus who has the same ability as well, they both grew up together.

During their years in elementary, Stephanie and Icarus's friendship made them become lovers.

And when they went to middle school, they meet the rest of their friends. There's Jeff, Mike, Jason, Tony, and Peter. The boys always hang out together after they showed each other that they had the same ability to fly. They are like family.

Every after school, Stephanie and her friends always flew around in areas where people can't see them. They almost got caught once when a patrol helicopter flew over. Icarus made Stephanie and the others promise not to show or tell anyone about their abilities, the others took his word, understanding the consequences that follow if they don't.

That was years ago...

"Hey, Stephanie. Can we go flying after school?"

Stephanie woke up from her daydream, looking at Peter in confusion. "Hm, what is it Peter?" Stephanie asked.

"Can we go flying after school?" Peter asked again, his contagious smile always cheers Stephanie and the others up whenever they feel down.

"Sure thing, but we gotta check on the others first." Stephanie replied, patting Peter's shoulder.

"I know, I just can't wait to fly and feel the wind in my face." Peter whispered, making sure no one heard him. Some students glanced at Peter before returning to what they're doing.

Stephanie nodded before looking at her phone's screen. 'Class is almost over' Stephanie thought to herself, glancing at Mr. Jones. The fat teacher was busy reading something funny because that huge smile on his face looks like it could rip his face in two.

Deciding to pass up the time, Stephanie and Peter chatted for a while, the other students were busy on their phones or listening to music. A few minutes later, the bell finally rang, signaling the end of class.

"Alright, class is dismissed!" Mr. Jones announced, looking up at the class briefly before returning to his book.

Everybody immediately shot out of their seats and made a beeline towards the door, while Stephanie and Peter placed their things in their bags.

"I can't wait to see how high I can fly!" Peter said excitedly, as he and Stephanie walked outside. He began to lift himself off of the ground, causing Stephanie to panic and hold him down looking frantically around to make sure nobody saw.

Peter frowned and looked at Stephanie in confusion. "Why did you do that, Stephanie?"

"Sorry, Peter. Remember that promise we made back in middle school?" Stephanie asked, Peter nodded before giving Stephanie an apologetic look. "Now come on, let's go find the others." Stephanie said, giving Peter an assuring smile. Peter's smile returned as he followed Stephanie.

After School...

Stephanie walked around the backyard of her house as she waited for her friends to arrive. A while ago, she had a nightmare about her and Icarus being separated.

"Yo, Stephanie!" a voice called in the distance.

Stephanie perked up at the voice, it was Tony! She can see her other friends approaching as well and went to greet them halfway.

The boys greeted Stephanie as she approached and they shared a group hug before going to an abandoned park in their neighborhood.

"So how are you doing, Stephanie?" Icarus asked, as he walked beside Stephanie.

"I'm doing good." Stephanie replied.

Icarus chuckled and placed a kiss on Stephanie's cheek while the others chatted with each other.

After a few minutes of walking and talking, the group finally reached the park and began hovering off of the ground.

"Oh yeah, it's been like... forever since I last did this." Mike said as he did a back flip while hovering in mid air.

"Whoa, careful there Mike!" Tony exclaimed, helping Mike reorientate himself.

Stephanie was busy setting the camera for her phone and turned her attention to Jeff as he flew in front of everyone with a football in his hands.

"Hey guys, let's go play in the sky!" Jeff announced before shooting off into the air. "Last one up there is a turd burglar!"

Stephanie and the others immediately shot upwards after Jeff, laughing the whole time as they raced to see who would get there first. Eventually, Stephanie and Icarus sped past a surprised Jeff and they landed on a large cloud and gave each other a high five as they waited for everyone to catch up.

"Wow, you guys are so fast!" Jeff exclaimed, a goofy smile on his face as he tossed the football to an unprepared Jason.

Peter cringed when Jason caught the football in between his legs.

"Oooh, that's gonna hurt." Peter said quietly as Jason made a face from the ball's impact.

Two Minutes Later...

Stephanie, Icarus and Peter laughed as they watched Mike attempting to moonewalk on a cloud, but ended up being tackled by Jason instead.

"I believe I can fly." Jason began singing, as Jeff shook his head. "I believe I can touch the sky."

"Dude, don't you dare." Mike said, flying closer to the two as they snickered.

"Hey, I'm just expressing my feelings." Jason said as he held his hands up in defense.

Tony snickered while Icarus and the others were busy playing catch with the football.

After a while, Stephanie began to hear a strange noise.

"Hey, do you guys hear that?" Kyle asked, Chris and the others looked at him in curiosity and heard a loud rumbling coming from the clouds.

"I hear it, what is -" Mike was cut off as a jet fighter flew past him and everyone, causing all of them to panic and fall to the ground.

The group managed to right themselves, safely landing in the park.

"Holy shit! that was a close call there!" Jason exclaimed as he patted his chest.

"D - Do you think they saw us?" Peter asked nervously as Jeff patted him on the shoulder.

"I don't think so, but we almost got ourselves killed if we didn't hear that jet's engine. " Icarus replied while holding a shaking Stephanie.

"At least the pilot didn't see us since we were in the clouds." Mike added.

Stephanie and the others nodded in agreement and hid under the trees as the small aircraft disappeared in the distance. The group released sighs of relief after their beating hearts slowed down.

After a while to calm down, the group made their way back home.

They failed to notice a parked car as the silhouettes inside nodded to each other.

"Bye guys, see you tomorrow." Jason said as he began walking away, the others said their goodbyes and went on their way home.

Stephanie and Icarus waved to their friends before walking back to their street.

"Today was fun." Icarus said as he stretched.

"Yeah, this was crazier than last time." Stephanie replied, still shaken from earlier.

Icarus slowly moved closer and wrapped Stephanie in a hug, locking lips with her.

"Mmmph." Stephanie shuddered as she became putty in Icarus's arms.

After a while, Icarus released Stephanie from his hold.

"See you later, pet." Icarus said playfully and ruffled Stephanie's hair before walking to his home down the street.

Stephanie blushed before looking at the pictures she had taken, even the videos she recorded on her phone and smiled.

The Next Day...

Stephanie was in her class with Peter again. Mr. Jones was reading his book as usual, but this time he kept giving Stephanie and Peter glances whenever he thought they were not looking. Even the students were whispering about them.

"Is it just me, or is Mr. Jones acting nervous around us?" Stephanie asked Peter, earning a shrug in response.

"I don't know, maybe we just look strange to him?" Peter joked, but it instantly died when two FBI agents entered the classroom. Everyone in the classroom watched in confusion and curiosity as the agents turned their attention to Stephanie and Peter.

Stephanie looked at Peter in shock as the agents said something to each other. Stephanie can tell that Peter felt like messing his pants, due to him shaking in fear.

"Oh crap..." Peter whispered shakily as tears began forming in his eyes as he trembled.

Stephanie watched as one of the agents approached her and Peter.

"Hello ma'am, please step out of this room with your friend and follow us." the agent said, his tone deep and emotionless.

Stephanie nodded to Peter before standing up, griping Peter's hand tightly as the agents led both of them outside.

The entire classroom watched in silence as Stephanie and Peter were led outside by the two agents. Mr. Jones returned back to his book, feeling a bit bad for the two as he shook his head.

"Where are you taking us?" Stephanie demanded, the agents didn't say anything as they took out some handcuffs. Peter began sniffling as he thought about what they would do to him and the others.

"STEPHANIE! PETER!"

A blur slammed into one of the agents, knocking him out while another struck the last one who didn't have time to react.

"M - Mike? Jason?!" Peter exclaimed.  "W - What's going on?"

"Bad news, guys." Mike said as he held up a newspaper. Stephanie and Peter looked in shock at the headline.

'Flying Teenagers Spotted'

The article read. Stephanie felt her blood run cold as she read everything.

'M - maybe someone saw them or followed them?' Stephanie thought to herself. It's too late now, the government already knows their secret.

Something else in the article caught Stephanie's attention as she read it out loud.

"Community Of Humans With Wings Spotted In Mountains."

"There's more of us?!" Stephanie exclaimed in shock. Mike nodded before Jason called for them to catch up.

"Hurry, the feds are coming!" Jason said urgently, pushing Stephanie and Peter forward.

"W - where are the others?" Stephanie asked shakily, Jason placed his arms around her and Peter's shoulders before giving both of them an assuring smile.

"Waiting outside, we gotta hurry though. The government's on our asses right now." Jason said before dashing out of the school, Mike, Stephanie and Peter following closely.

The boys and girl landed on a cloud, the rest of the gang was there.

"Stephanie, I was so worried! " Icarus exclaimed as he wrapped Stephanie in a hug, then he rustled Peter's hair.

"Guys, this is very bad." Tony said, as Mike was busy stuffing something in his backpack.

"The bastards took our families into custody, they want to take us away!" Jeff shouted angrily.

"What the heck are we supposed to do now?" Jason asked as he lazily floated around the cloud.

Stephanie was horrified about what Jeff had said. The government had taken her mom, her dad and her little sister...

"Stephanie, look out!" Mike shouted, pushing her off of the cloud in the nick of time as a jet fighter flew past.

"Let's get the hell outta here!" Jason shouted as he caught Stephanie and flew towards some clouds as the others tailed him. "Come on, guys! We can try to lose them in the clouds!" Jason yelled over his shoulder.

"Just where the heck do we go, man?!" Tony shouted, the wind nearly muffling his voice as he flew.

"I don't know, try stomping on their wings?" Mike suggested as Jeff looked at him in shock.

"Are you crazy?!" Tony shouted as he caught up with them. "How does that even work?"

"Watch this." Mike shouted as he flew into a thick cloud just as a jet fighter flew towards his cover. Mike gave a thumbs up before building some momentum and slamming his full weight on to one of the jet fighter's wings, denting it as the force spun the aircraft out of control, sending it downward towards the earth.

"Yeah baby! Mike - 1, Pilot - 0!" Mike cheered as he pumped his fists in the air. His cheer was cut short as he hissed in pain. A bullet had scratched his shoulder.

"Mike, RUN - I mean - FLY!" Peter yelled, as he saw other jet fighters approaching.

Peter felt himself get snatched by Icarus, Tony and Jeff were flying beside Jason as they hid in the clouds. Casting a worried glance around, Icarus spots Jason still carrying Stephanie in his arms.

Icarus sighed in relief as he and the others flew together.

There was suddenly a loud explosion in the distance.

"What was that?!" Mike asked out loud.

The group then saw a mass of winged humans slaughtering the jet fighters. One latched onto a jet fighter and continuously jabbed a sword through the cockpit.

"Shit, it's those winged humans!" Jason shouted in panic.

"Follow me, guys!" Icarus shouted, grabbing Stephanie's hand and flying towards some thick clouds as the others followed behind.

2 Hours Later...

The group has been avoiding the jet fighters for hours, they took their chances flying across the ocean.

Stephanie had recovered from her shock and released herself from Jason's grip and flew beside Icarus and the others. The boys tried their best to keep up with each other, Stephanie was in the lead.

'We may have lost our families, but we still have each other.' Stephanie thought bitterly to herself as Peter flew next to her.

"GUYS, WATCH OUT!" Peter yelled as a lone jet fighter shot out from the clouds. Stephanie could only watch in horror as the jet fighter flew towards her, the pilot's face was cold and merciless.

Stephanie was suddenly pushed aside by Icarus as the others shouted. The world seemed to slow down as the jet fighter flew passed them, only to be struck by lightning.

Both Stephanie and Icarus landed on a cloud, the others soon caught up and they were all exhausted from flying.

"Guys..." Stephanie said as she wrapped Icarus in a hug. "... one last group hug?"

The others nodded and got together into a group hug as a jet fighter flew straight towards them. The group ignored the flying bullets or the charge of the winged humans, they were more focused on each others company.

Soon enough, they were engulfed in a shinning bright light and disappeared.
