Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was raining. The thunder could be heard in the background as I plopped down on the couch to see what was on the television. Flipping through the channels, all things around me began to feel eerie. I didn't let it bother me. I was used to being alone. It was great and all, but I've never really had someone to talk to. Stopping on the weather channel to get a quick glance of how much longer this storm was going to last, strange sounds started coming from the kitchen area. I stood up to check it out, then a familiar blackness engulfed me.
Mad with the fact that the power went out from a minor rainstorm, I scrambled for a flashlight. In searching for it, I noticed a strange smell in the air. I was used to a lot of weird smells living next to a landfill, but this one was different. It wasn't a bad smell, yet, it wasn't a good one either. It was a mix of multiple smells. I could distinctly pick them out to being one of apples, one of fancy perfume, one of cotton candy, one of sweat, one of old books, and one of animals. It was weird in the fact that, I could actually smell anything at all, since I've had a cold for the past couple of days and smelling was near impossible.
I again shrugged it off as nothing then attempted to turn on the flashlight, only to find that the batteries were dead. Scrambling to now find batteries, I bumped into my knife. "This knife is gonna bite me in the ass one day" I say to myself, pocketing it and then continuing to look for batteries. Finally giving up with no luck, I motioned to the couch, only to hear a series of loud clashes from the kitchen. Startled and fearing for the worst, I slowly moved towards the kitchen.
Reaching the door, a loud crash of thunder could be heard above. It wouldn't open. I tried to lay on it. Wouldn't budge. As I gave up, I heard an unlocking sound. Then, the alarm went off.
