In a small little home in Ponyville, there lived Derpy Hooves, and her daughter Dinky. They love spending the days of exploring the town together, play games, and baking and eating muffins together. But they are two different species, Derpy was a gray, wall-eyed Pegasus, with a blond mane and tail, and bubbles for her cutie mark. While as for Dinky, she's a lavender unicorn with little blond hair and no cutie mark. Derpy had always planned to tell Dinky where she came from every night as she tucks her in to bed, but she just didn't know how to explain it.
But she had finally decided, that tonight will be the night. "When Muffin comes home from school, I'll tell her", Derpy said, as she got ready for her job at the post office. "No more waiting." She had put on her uniform, put her mailbag on her shoulder, and flew off. The thought of her daughter echoed in Derpy's mind all day, she didn't even notice the box flew out of her mailbag.
Realizing her mistake, Derpy flew towards the box, and caught it in midair. "That was close, I should be more careful." Meanwhile at school, Dinky had a lot going on in her mind. She didn't even notice the dodge ball that hit her in the face. "Ow, that hurts", Dinky cried. Dinky was sent to the nurse's office.
Derpy, and Dinky had thought about each other all day. When Dinky came home, she noticed her mother, humming a little tune in the kitchen. Derpy, hearing the door close, she came out of the kitchen and said, "Hello Muffin, how was your day at school?"
Dinky said as tears streamed down her face, "It was awful, Mommy. Today Diamond Tiara and Sliver Spoon called me a blank flank who's an orphan. And today we were playing dodge ball and it hit me in the face."
"Oh my poor sweet little Muffin, I'm sorry that happened. There is something I should tell you, when it's bedtime I'll tell you everything about when you were a baby." Derpy was getting ready for the whole truth she would tell Dinky that night. She even pulled out an old book from the bookshelf that read, My Little Muffin. As Dinky was brushing her teeth, she heard her mother say, "Muffin, story time."
Dinky was overjoyed. She entered in her bedroom, and her mother tucked her in and said, "Comfy? This is a photo album I made for you when you were a baby." Derpy opened the book, and cleared her throat.
"It all started when I was delivering mail, in Downtown Ponyville. I was delivering ten packages to a company called Fancy Footwear. That's when I heard someone shouting. 'You are a waste of my time, a pony said. I wish I never gave birth to you.' I ran over to an alley, and that's when I saw a little unicorn, that was dirty and underfed and bleeding from her left cheek.
I felt so sorry for the poor thing, so I took her home, fed her, gave her a bath, fixed her boo boo, and put a clean diaper on her. And then I made a decision that changed my life forever. To take some time off from the post office, and to raise the little unicorn as my daughter. Which I'm proud to say is you, my little Muffin."
"Oh Mommy, I never knew. But I wish I have a daddy."
"Maybe you will someday, but remember even if you have a father, that won't make me stop loving you."
"Really Mommy?"
"You are my precious gift Muffin. Never forget that even if you're adopted you still have my love."
Derpy saw Dinky sleeping soundly with her stuffed bunny tightly in her forelegs, and gently kissed her on the forehead. "Sweet dreams, Muffin." Derpy walked out of her daughter's bedroom, and went into her room. The thought of the love she had for Dinky made climb into bed, and fall fast asleep.
The next morning, Derpy and Dinky kissed each other goodbye as they head off for school and work. For both of them, things seemed to turn out fine. Derpy had to deliver a letter to one of her dearest friends in Ponyville. And Dinky spent the whole day with the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Derpy and Dinky just couldn't wait to tell each other how their day went today.
I'll make my Muffin something special for dinner, Derpy thought to herself, as she finished her route in Ponyville. Dinky was walking home from school, when she spotted her mother at the supermarket. "What's Mommy doing?" Dinky asked herself. "I guess I'll have to know later."
Derpy got back from the store just as soon as Dinky showed up at their house. Overjoyed at the sound of her daughter's hoof steps, Derpy flew up to Dinky, and hugged her tightly. Derpy was hoping that Dinky wouldn't that they're having vegetable soup for dinner.
After they told each other about their day today, Derpy hurried back into the kitchen when she noticed the soup was boiling over. "Oops, my bad", Derpy said to Dinky, as she turned off the stove. Dinky just smiled, and gave her mother a kiss on the nose. Derpy knew that she was glad she took Dinky in and raised her as her own.
Derpy looked at the photo album again, after she tucked Dinky into bed when dinner was over. The pictures showed all of the good times she had with Dinky when she was a baby. One of the pictures showed a baby unicorn, playing with her baby food. Another one showed Dinky in the bathtub.
At all of the pictures, Derpy had tears in her eyes when she noticed the one of her first day of school. She was quietly sobbing of her daughter's most precious memory. Derpy hoped that maybe one day, Dinky will discover her special talent and her cutie mark will appear. "I know you'll make me proud, my little Muffin", Derpy whispered softly in Dinky's ear.
Before she left, Derpy heard Dinky say, "I love you forever Mommy."
