Vanu Research Facility X-256, Esamir, Auraxis
The snow whipped around the platoon's face and they hopped out of the Nanite Systems VTOL Transport Aircrafts commonly known by troops on all sides as a "Galaxies" that had delivered them from Mani Fortress; A small outpost devised long ago as one of the outlying security measures on the wintry continent of Esamir in case of open rebellion on the snowy wasteland.
The platoon then organized themselves and marched forward up north of the Mani Fortress through the icy storms and soft snow to their true objective: An old Terran Republic Research and Development base that had been taken over by the Insurrectionist group calling themselves the "Vanu Sovereignty". All of this they had been told during the mission briefing. They had also been told in the briefing that it contained the Vanu Sovereignty's top scientists and weapon prototypes and that they were being sent to retrieve the scientists and destroy the prototypes.
The platoon leader, a newly promoted First Lieutenant named Marcus Gabrielle, called for the platoon to stop at a ledge, where the formation of Terran Republic soldiers could be barely made out in the snow.
"Staff Sergeant Jones, bring me a set of infrared binoculars." said Marcus, looking over to the platoon sergeant, a young man named Matt Jones.
The Staff Sergeant then pulled a set of binoculars modified to use infrared and gave them to the Lieutenant. Who then saw through them a large base. With several guards and Phalanx towers. The base itself being box-shaped, with several buildings in the center and two guard tower stationed on the North and South walls. With an added bonus with a small entrance on the side, possibly leading into an underground section. He'd then ponder a bit on the defenses of the base, trying to figure out the best course of action.
And after a couple of minutes trying to devise the best way to go about infiltration, Marcus turned to the Staff Sergeant, who was trying to wipe a clump of snow that had formed on his shoulder. "Staff Sergeant, I want you to take Bravo squad and try to sneak into the back of the base to secure the objective. The rest of the platoon and I will try and create a diversion so you can actually have the opportunity to reach the target."
"Got it," said Matt, pulling out his SABR-13 Assault Rifle and motioning towards the twelve people that made up Bravo squad. The squad crawling towards him to avoid detection.
"Alright, then. We go on my mark." said the lieutenant, pulling out his T1 Cycler Assault Rifle and aiming down the 3.4X scope he had recently bought, lining the sights at one of the sentries patrolling the walls.
"Three."
Marcus then levels the rifle barrel on the snow bank, placing the barrel on one of the sentries. Holding a cup of coffee while searching the snowy landscape for any signs of intruders.
"Two."
He'd then tightened the grip on the trigger, breathing slowly in and out.
"One."
Marcus then pulled the trigger, the round zipping through the icy air and penetrating through the helmet and skull of the sentry, sending his's brains and blood across the metal flooring. The blood soon mixing with the snow with coffee.
The base then went on high alert, several of the Vanu soldiers climbing into turrets and gun emplacements along the wall. Their plasma-based weapons lining the walls.
"Clear the back-blast!" shouted a Heavy Assault, pulling out his disposable ML-7 Anti-Armor rocket launcher. He'd then aimed at one of the Phalanx turrets and fire, bringing the defensive emplacement down in a shower of sparks and fire as the rocket penetrated the armor and hit the ammo rack.
"Bravo, move out!" scream Matt over the explosions and gunfire. Motioning his hand forward in case someone didn't hear.
The squad then followed their designated leader, ducking under a small mound in the snow to avoid being spotted and finally rushing to the side of the base. They then hugged the wall as they tried moving to the back, the sound of gunfire and explosions drowning out any sort of noise their movements would make.
Matt and the squad then shuffled along the wall until they reached the back door, the door being guarded by several Vanu soldiers wielding their strange plasma-based weaponry.
"Quick, someone hand me a Concussion." said Matt, holding out his hand in waiting for said concussive. Finally, someone placed the cylinder-shaped explosive in his hand, the pin still in it.
Matt then pulled the pin out of grenade and rolled it on the ground towards the group. The cylinder rolling around the feet of a guard a few seconds before going off. Completely disorienting the entire group of guards; some firing in random directions and one even running into a wall.
"Go loud!" yelled Matt, firing his SABR at a Light Assault, the two-round burst shredding through it's light armor and sending him to the floor in a pool of his own blood.
The squad also opened fire on the group, the red and black soldiers of the Terran Republic tearing into them with carbines, assault rifles, and LMG's alike. With most of the fire being focused on an armored combat exoskeleton called a MAX suit. The rounds mostly being absorbed by the heavy armor. But in a few moments under the relentless fire, the MAX went down, sparks and blood pouring from it.
Matt would then motion with his left hand for the squad to go into the base, quietly walking through the doorway and down the hallway, only for a Vanu soldier behind an overturned storage crate to open fire on him with his plasma gun before being taken down by one of Matt's squad-mates.
Matt would then take a couple hits to his left shoulder, but thanks to the engineering of TR scientists, the rounds was mostly stopped by the body armor and his uniform's many layers of Kevlar. He'd then grab his Medical Applicator from his utility belt and pull the trigger of the device, a stream of green nanites designed to repair the body spewing out, repairing the damage done to his body. The green stream pulling back in after Matt released the trigger.
The rest of the squad would then file into the building. Moving through corridor after corridor to gt closer to the central area of the base, where the scientists and prototypes would be located. Taking out several Vanu soldiers in the process.
Finally, the squad reached the center of the base's underground portion. The room itself being circular in shape, with tables and computers, the tables being laden with prototype weaponry. While most of the scientists were at work on the computers, obviously trying to erase any data that was crucial to the war effort. Unaware of the squad right at their door.
"Come on, fellas. We've got to hurry up here before the TR get here." said one of the scientists, pushing up his glasses that had slipped down his nose and continuing to type on one of the computers in an attempt to erase all data on it's hard drive.
"Too late." said Matt, walking through the door with his Uppercut raised, the scientists being complete look of surprise being enough to put a rough grin on his face. The rest of the squad soon following through the doorway, all guns raised at the scientists.
"Jenkins," said Matt, pointing to soldier that was also an Engineer. "Get the rest of the data out of those computers. Might as well get something out of this. The rest of you; destroy these prototypes, we don't need these abominations getting into the hands of the Vanu. I've got the scientists. Move!"
The squad then began to do their tasks, with Jenkins sticking portable data storage containers into each of the computer. While the squad began to destroy the weapons, snapping then in half, jamming the into the wall, and some even trying to shoot some apart.
Matt then walked up the the scientists, keeping his Uppercut leveled at the group, their faces getting more worried the closer he got.
"So, what do we have here?" said Matt, pointing his shotgun at one of the scientists before snapping to another one and another one and so on, until he reached the final one. But unlike the others, his face kept a stalwart appearance. "Traitors of the Republic, preferring to fight for technology then your own race. Disgraceful. But instead of going to the firing squad like the soldiers, your going away to Kane. Yup, not going to face the firing squad to make it end sooner. We're sending you away to rot for what you've done. Now, face the wall. Now!"
The scientists then followed the order without hesitation. Moving to the wall and placing their hand on the back of their hands. But one did not move; the stalwart one. Not moving a muscle since the squad had come into the room. Both of his hands behind his back.
"Did you not here me? I said to move!" bellowed Matt, poking his Uppercut at the scientists' stomach in an attempt to make him move. But this did not seem to work, still not moving. But then, he finally spoke, his words feeling like cold venom to Matt and he moved his hands from behind his back the reveal a frag grenade. The button already pressed and beeping. the noise accelerating with every second.
Hail Vanu."
"Get down!" shouted Matt almost on instinct. Diving straight to cover behind an overturned table.
The grenade would then explode, showering shrapnel and fire across the whole room, burning anyone to a crisp that didn't heed Matt's warning.
