Before I Sleep
Previous ChapterNext ChapterShit. Applejack groaned to kingdom come before a chick yellow foreleg brushed her shoulder. The dazed and most groggy workhorse shifted over, only to hiss as her side stabbed itself. Agony drew a fresh tear from Jacquelyn before she heard a yellow whisper. God rays slew her vision as she was forced to eek out a shoddy understanding of some, saintly figure caressing her shoulder.
"A-Applejack, you need to stay still. You're getting treated for alcohol poisoning. You need to let the I.V drip still. So don't move too much or your scars might open." Flutterhy urged, silky and soft like butterfly wings.
"S... scars? I got scars? What happened... All I remember is suckin some dick. And that ain't anything but a Tuesday for me- Oh shit. I was suckin' on that dicklady, wasn't I. Now she's probably got a year's worth of foals up my taco." Thought Applejack, slurring into a yawn.
Her blunt hooves banged around for some sort of nourishment. A lukewarm veggieburger and some fries coaxed her drool. Just for a moment, she forgot to put on a bib and ate like her beloved Winona. Because why not. Her jaw already ached in some, subtle buggery. The taste of deep-fried oats, tobasco-kissed hay and low-sodium chips made it all better. When was the last time she could just eat a good old burger, the mare reminisced, eyeing her dulcet companion. Granted, she had a cheek full of food slop, so it must've looked awkward. It took Flutterslut a minute to start conversation.
"I... I came in to make sure you were okay. But you shouldn't worry about Ms. Li; she was the only one sober enough to call 911. Thankfully, Officer Doo wasn't too mad about Scootaloo being there. But she said your PO is gonna spend a little more time with you from now on."
Shit. Applejack sighed heavily as she tried to grab her alcohol canteen, but only found empty air. Another grit started in her teeth. What did a girl have to do to... get a drink around here. Her mind was... mixed. In places she didn't comprehend, Applejack had to change herself. Where a drink went, for the longest time, she went. College. High school. Her parents' divorce. Every loss she ever experienced. Now her one, true friend was a burden she couldn't bear. The light pouring in from her window seemed sardonic, to say the least. Everything was supposed to look beautiful. But... where she lay, everything was tinged with grey.
"... Fluttershy. Am... I gonna die?"
Her question drew a glance away.
"Cause, if I am, I don't wanna. I'm- I'm too young. Didn't ever get to see the Sistine Stable. Or the Taj Manehal. Never gotta have a foal of my own or be in an orgy, a-and I ain't done takin care of Applebloom or Big Mac. I- I don't wanna die, Fluttershy. I don't. I got t-too much... too..."
She found it hard to breathe without choking on air. Jacquelyn saw her little sister dozed off to the side of her bed. For the first time ever, she trembled and said the words 'I'm so sorry sugarcube. I'm so sorry you never got a better sister.'
Applejack hiccuped on her own, dry sobs as she clung to Applebloom and felt warm, light forelegs wrap over her stomach. Inside, a tight knot accompanied her pulsing heart. She ached knowing it was all her fault. To run from her problems, was to nourish them. Jacquelyn saw her sister wake and held her face in her hooves. And she bit her lip as they nuzzled her neck to a family lullaby. Her night came to a halt as Applejack was cradled in her little sister's hooves.
...
"... an addiction won't change me, no matter how you get." Applebloom finished, yawning deeply and falling asleep atop her parent.
