Chapters CHAPTER ONE
"There we go, just one more bolt..." Lyra said as she tightened the last one. She looked at Bon Bon and nodded. The pink and blue maned pony pulled the lever. Sparks started flying from one pole to another and a purple swirl started to form in the center of the machine. Lyra grew an ear to ear smile and Bon Bon could not believe it was working. The machine started to smoke and the portal disappeared. Lyra's mint green face started to turn red.
"Um... Lyra? Are you ok?" Bon Bon asked.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" Lyra screamed, knowing very well that Daisy would have been knocking on the door if she had swore again, "What am I missing? I got everything! It even opened!!"
"Lyra, come on, it's late. You have a lot of work to do tomorrow." Bon Bon said to the almost weeping pony.
"Alright, but tomorrow I'll-"
"Lyra. You'll have a job by tomorrow." Bon Bon said a bit annoyed that her mint friend is still obsessing over these 'human' things.
"How about just at night?" she asked her roommate making the cutest puppy dog face in pony history. (Well... Maybe not as cute as a certain yellow pony with a pink mane.)
"Fine... But you can't stay up past 10:30," Bon Bon said, still not understanding what the big deal was about humans. Humans are mythological creatures, nothing more. Why would Lyra believe in them?
"Yay!" Lyra said as she went up and hugged Bon Bon.
The next morning as Lyra and Bon Bon were eating breakfast the beige pony started up the conversation.
"I heard that Carousel Boutique has work open,"
"Hmm... I don't know... Anything creative I touch dies."
"Well I'd say that machine in the basement is creative,"
"And you see how well it works," The pony with the lyre cutie mark looked down at here cereal, "I'll just walk around town and look for anything."
---------------------------*-*-*---------------------------
As Lyra was walking around town looking for work, she was more focused on her machine.
"hmm... Maybe I just need more of that magic! Oh... But the only money I could use to buy some would be the money that we were saving up for the rent..." Lyra thought as she walked down the street as a plum colored pony stopped her for a second.
"Hey, Lyra I heard you were looking for work,"the mulberry maned earth pony said.
"Hey, Berry Punch. Yeah, but the only work I know of is at Carousel Boutique..." Lyra replied.
"Well, I heard that Twilight needed help in the library," Berry Punch told her.
"Thanks, BP, I'll go check it out," she said as she ran off. When she got there she knocked on the door to be met by a purple and green dragon.
"Hey, Lyra! Are you looking for more mythology books?" he asked her.
"No, not today Spike. I'm actually here to see Twilight, is she home?" Lyra replied.
"Yeah she's home. Let me go get her," he said as he ran into the back.
A few moments later a lavender pony with purple hair and sparkles for her cutie mark came out.
"Hello, are you looking for something in particular?" she asked.
"Uh... Kind of... I was hoping that I could work here," Lyra asked.
"Sure, I guess, I did tell Berry Punch that I needed someone to shelve books," Twilight said with a smile on her face.
"So... Can I start now?" the mint unicorn asked.
"Go right ahead. There's a box by my desk with returned books on them, and if you don't know where all the books belong there's a map in the drawer," Twilight informed her new employee.
"Ok," Lyra said as she started pulling out multiple books and putting them away.
"Hmm... Let's see... Star-Swirl the Bearded... That goes under history. Hands and fingers. Well I remember reading that one. It goes under mythology."
The day went on and the books got put back on shelves. Ponies came and went. Ponies checked out books or just sat and read. Twilight looked bothered about something all day, so Lyra thought she'd ask.
"Uh, Twi, is something bothering you?" Lyra asked.
"Oh, it's nothing..." she replied. Lyra looked at her for a second.
"You're lying. I can tell. What is it?" she insisted. Twilight took a deep breath and looked back at Lyra.
"Well, it's just... at my brother's wedding... you kind of um... attacked Cadence and I..." she said blushing a bit. Lyra thought about it for a second.
"Changelings I guess, I don't remember that. I was at the wedding when you burst in anyways," she answered, "Besides, I like Cadence! She was also my foal sitter! I used to live in Canterlot too, you know."
"Heh heh... I guess you're right..." Twilight continued on her librarian duties.
By the end of the day, Lyra trotted up to her new boss. Twilight took the hint. She wen back to her safe and sadly looked at Lyra.
"I'm sorry, I seem to be short on bits right now, but I should get more by next week. Is there something else I could pay you in?" Twilight asked. Lyra thought for a second and smiled.
"You're a pretty powerful unicorn right?" Lyra asked.
"Uh, yeah, but I don't really like to brag..."
"Well, I do need one thing for this project I'm working on, and I think that you can supply me with enough."
"What do you need?" Lyra turned and looked at Twilight Sparkle.
"Concentrated unicorn magic," she said. Twilight looked at her and thought about it for a second.
"I could probably get you a small amount. It's too much of a strain to give out a lot at one time." Twilight answered.
"Give me as much as you can and I won't need to be payed for the rest of the week." Lyra insisted.
"Deal, " Twilight answered. Then the lavender unicorn opened a cabinet and pulled out a jar. She put her horn inside of the jar and it started to glow. Drop by drop the magic fell into the jar. It was about half way full when Twilight stopped.
"That's all I can give without wearing myself out," The purple unicorn informed her. Lyra smiled, took the magic and thanked her as she walked out the door.
On her way back to the house she was thinking about how to work on her machine and finish it. When she got back to their house she went straight down the the basement and started adding the new magic to what she already had.
"Good, I think it should work now..." she thought, "Hey, Bon Bon get down here!"
As her earth pony friend came down the stairs she started up the machine again. The sparks started flying and the portal opened once more, but Lyra wasn't giving up this opportunity. She grabbed Bon Bon and jumped in.
"Lyra what are you doing, I don't want to go in there! NOOO!"
Bon Bon was the first to wake up.
"Oh, my head hurts... Where are we, Lyra?" she said as she looked over at her friend, "OH, SWEET CELESTIA, LYRA WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?" as she saw her friend who looked like a mythological creature, then she looked at herself, "OH, SWEET CELESTIA WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?"
CHAPTER TWO
Lyra woke up as Bon Bon was screaming.
"Geeez, Bon Bon, why are you screaming so early in the morning?" she said as she brought up her hoof to rub her head. Or her hand...
"Holy crap! Bon Bon it worked!" Lyra yelled jumping for joy. It was everything she had imagined. Fingers, toes, arms, legs, hands, feet, and so much more!
They were teleported behind a bush on a path. It was a good thing, too, because ponies don't wear cloths, so they were naked. As Lyra was jumping around being happy about what had happened, a girl about the same age as them stopped and stared for a second.
"Um... Are you ok?" the unknown girl said as she pulled out her ear buds, trying not to stare.
"Oh, a real human!" Lyra whispered to herself, "Why, is something wrong?" obviously oblivious of her cloths issue. The unknown girl looked at her funny, then answered.
"Well, it's just that... Um... You're naked..." she said indicating it to the overly excited young girl, "If you want, I'll go and get you some cloths..."
"You would? Thank you! But you'll have to get some for her, too" the mint haired girl said as she pulled up the girl with blue and pink hair.
"You mean there's two of them? Dear God, please help me... I think I should help them..." the unknown girl said to herself, "Well, I'll go and get you two some cloths, you guys stay here and don't let anyone see you, ok?"
"Ok!" said the young girl with the mint green hair as she ducked down under the bush. The unknown girl walked away.
About ten minutes later, she came back with cloths for them.
"Sorry I couldn't find anything more grown up, these were the only thing that looked like it would fit you two," she said handing them both a pair of jeans. Then she handed the the mint haired girl a shirt with a lyre on it, and the blue and pink haired girl a shirt with a small group of candy on it, "Oh, I'm sorry, I guess I never really formally introduced my self. My name is Sarah." she said smiling.
"My name is Lyra, and this is my friend Bon Bon!" Lyra replied.
"Bon Bon... Is that a nick name?" their new friend asked.
"Yeah! It's cause she loves candy so much!" Lyra said before Bon Bon could answer. She looked annoyed.
"Ha, that's cool, I've never had a nick name before," Sarah answered, "So do you two have anywhere to stay?"
"No, we just got here and we don't really know anypony," Bon Bon shyly answered.
"Well until you guys find somewhere to stay you could stay at my place, it's small but it would work," the kind girl said. She stopped for a second then continued, "Did you just say 'anypony'?"
"Well, we better get going, settle in, you know..." Lyra covered for Bon Bon. Sarah rolled her eyes and started to walk off. Lyra and Bon Bon were tripping over themselves when they first started. Sarah tryed not to laugh that two girls about her age coudln't walk right.
"Maybe they're drunk or high or something," She thought to herself. Once they got the hang of walking on two legs they headed back to her apartment.
---------------------------*-*-*---------------------------
Meanwhile in Ponyville, Twilight was shelving books.
"I knew I shouldn't have hired Lyra, she will never come on time..." She muttered to herself. Just then she heard a knocking at the door. Twilight angrily trotted over and opened the door.
"Look, Lyra, if you are going to work here you'll have to-" she stopped when it was a pink pony at the door instead of the mint one she was expecting, "Oh, high Pinkie. Are you looking for another cooking book?"
"Actually no, the Cakes sent me over here to see if you knew where Bon Bon was! She didn't show up for work today and she always gets there early." The pink maned pony said looking worried.
"Hmmm... that's odd... I was just wondering where her room mate was... did she say anything about going on a vacation?" Twilight asked.
"Not that I know of..." Pinkie said, having trouble being her peppy self.
"Uh... How about you and I go look and check their apartment? Maybe their alarm clock didn't go off or something" Twilight asked.
"Okey Dokey Lokey!" Pinkie Pie said, regaining her usual peppyness.
"SPIKE!!! TAKE CARE OF THE LIBRARY WHILE I'M OUT!!!" The purple unicorn yelled as she walked out the door.
---------------------------*-*-*---------------------------
After a long, awkward scilence, Lyra tryed to start a conversation.
"So... Sarah, do you believe in things like unicorns and pegasi?"
"Hmm, why are you asking? Do you believe in them? I mean... I used to when I was like, six, but I outgrew it. Unicorns and pegasi are mythological creatures, nothing more. Why would I believe in them at this age?"
Bon Bon blushed, realizing how it felt to be on the other hoof- or hand.
"Well, here we are! Home sweet home!" Sarah said as she opened the door to the small apartment. Lyra and Bon Bon looke around at the small apartment.
"It vaugely looks like our apartment back home..." They both thought.
"You two can sleep on the pull-out couch, that is, unless you don't like sleeping in the same bed..." she offered. Well, that's usually what they did at home, so they nodded saying that was OK. Sarah sudenly realized something.
"Oh, crap! After helping you two I completly forgot I was going to meet Megsy for lunch!" Sarah said as she grabbed her bag and headed for the door.
"Who is Megsy?" The ponies asked in unison.
"Oh, her real name is Megan, I just call her that. But you can't call her that she hates when anyone besides me does. Hmph... thinking about it she hates it when I call her that," Sarah replied, "Do you two want to come and meet her? She's very sweet and a little shy and one of the most kind people you could ever meet. I bet she would get along with you two."
"Hmmm... sweet, shy, and kind..." Bon Bon thought, "That reminds me of somepony"
They headed out the door together as Sarah kept informing them on her friend.
---------------------------*-*-*---------------------------
Twilight and Pinkie Pie were finally arriving at apartment room 407 when Daisy came out and stopped them.
"Hey, have you seen Lyra or Bon Bon? I came to their apartment earlier to find out what the big noise was last night, and now their not here!" she said looking really worried.
"I don't know what happend last night, but something bad could have happend to them," Twilight said, "We have to get in there now!" The purple unicorn then used magic to break down the door.
The two earth ponies stared at eachother for a minute, then the pink one hopped joyfully into the apartment, "Hello? Anypony here?" she called as she hopped around. then she came out, "Nopony in there! Just a big machine for I don't know what!"
"Machine?" Twilight said as she walked into the apartment. She investegated the entire house untill she found the contraption, "Hmmm.... what is it supposed to do? It looks like it has a hole for a portal or somethi-" Twilight freezed for a moment in realization. "The books on human mythology, the concentrated unicorn magic, the spending all her time in the basement, Lyra built a machine that she thought would take her to a dimension with humans! Ugh... Bon Bon must have gotten sucked along with her! I have no idea where they could be, I know demensional travel is possible, but I don't know if they went to the right one!" Twilight burst out of the room and teleported herself and Pinkie Pie to the train station, "I need two tickets to Canterlot."
PROLOGUE
"Damn it!" Lyra yelled as part of her machine broke of and landed oh her front hooves.
"Lyra please don't swear so loudly. Its late, ponies are trying to sleep, and the neighbors can hear you! You know how religious Daisy is..." Lyra's roommate Bon Bon said as she walked down the stairs into their basement. The mint green unicorn looked up at her beige earth pony friend.
"I'm sorry. I just almost had it and it broke again." Lyra said as she looked back at her hunk of metal. She levitated the wrench over with her horn and started working on it again, trying to fix what fell of and hit her hooves.
"Lyra, you really should stop obsessing over these human creatures that don't exist and look for a job." Bon Bon said worrying about how they won't be able to pay the rent next month because Lyra spent all her money on concentrated unicorn magic, which only some unicorns could produce. Lyra dropped her tool and stared at Bon Bon.
"You never believed me, but I'll prove it to you. Humans do exist." Lyra said as she tried not to show how upset she was. She sighed, looked back at Bon Bon and said, "Look, I know you're worried about paying the rent. Just let me keep working tonight and I'll look for work tomorrow, but for now will you help me work on this?" Lyra looked up at Bon Bon.
"Well, if she's going to get a job tomorrow guess that I could help " she thought, then she smiled and walked down the stairs and she sat down next to Lyra, "Just show me what to do."
