Not Exactly Eternal Night

Twilight struggled with all her might, but no matter how much she tried, the spark around the five elements did not come to light, Nightmare Moon stamped hard on the ground, causing the crystals to break and shatter.

"But...where's the sixth Element?!" she asked, trying to catch her breath.

Nightmare Moon laughed at her failed attempt to restore harmony. "You little foal! Thinking you could defeat me? Now you will never see your princess, or your sun! The night will last forever!"

Without wasting a second, she launched a magic beam with sparks of blue lightning at Twilight.

"AHHHHHH!" she screamed in agony as the sparks made contact before falling to the ground.

Twilight collapsed through the extreme pain, now revealing several scars and bruises

By the time the other five ponies arrived, it was too late. They then knew that all hope was lost and that evil had won.

"What do we have here, five more ponies?" Nightmare boomed. "You all will make the perfect slaves for my new kingdom!"

"Oh pony feathers..." Applejack muttered.

"Let us all return to Canterlot where we will crown a new ruler of Equestria, along with the eternal night!"

They suddenly vanished out of the ruined castle and appeared inside the Canterlot castle.

Nightmare Moon's own personal guards had already taken control of the surroundings, they smiled and stood tall with pride as their new ruler returned, ready to accept the new changes to be made around the kingdom.

In the nights that followed, Nightmare Moon had taken over the reign of the throne room and recruited Celestia's employees to follow her orders. However, during one night, a messenger from Ponyville barged in with breaking news.

"My highness! We have disturbing news from Ponyville!" the messenger spoke alarmingly.

"Ponyville? What news?" she asked, feeling somewhat uninterested.

"Our food supplies for the entire kingdom has fallen to an all time low."

"And how is that possible?"

"Forgive my influence on the matter your highness, but without sunlight, the foods that the ponies need to live on will not grow and all lifeform in Equestria will die of starvation should the crops wither away!"

Nightmare Moon gasped, she didn't realize of that happening when she was planning to have the eternal night she wanted.

"You mean to tell me that I must also raise the sun just so that the food we need can grow?"

"Yes your highness. Please don't hurt the messenger!"

"You bumbling foal and I mean in a fool way!"

The messenger crouched and shivered.

"Very well then, I will bring forth the sunlight, it shouldn't be a problem for a powerful princess as I!"

Nightmare Moon then vanished and appeared on the fields away from the castle, she looked up at the moon and began to concentrate.

"Now, how did Celestia raise the sun?" she pondered quickly. "Of course, the same way that I lower the moon."

Nightmare began to use her magic and she lowered the moon with minimal effort, she attempted to raise the sun, but for some reason, she wasn't able to do so easily. She kept trying and trying, but even with all her magic, it wasn't working, she began to huff angrily.

"BAH!" Nightmare exclaimed. "How can it be so hard to raise a sun?!" Her stomach suddenly grumbled. "Oh please, trying to raise a sun should not make me hungry! Where are my shadowbolts?!"

In seconds, three shadowbolts turned up, "What are your orders, mam?" one of them asked.

"I want you to raise the sun...I'm too hungry to do it."

"Uhh forgive us your highness, but we are shadowbolts and we can't travel to the sun. The heat of the sun would kill us."

"You incompetent ponies!" She took a deep breath and sighed heavily. "As much as I find this to be unacceptable, I must go to Celestia right now. Shadowbolts, be gone!"

"At once, mam!" they replied before zooming away.

Nightmare then left the fields and appeared outside the castle dungeon where two of her guards were standing by.

"Out of my way, guards!"

They jumped and stood aside, Nightmare then completely blasted the dungeon door into pieces without even thinking about it and descended downwards, the view was getting darker until she came to the end of the stairway and onto a rough and rocky floor. This was the dungeon area and it was bigger than many ponies thought.

She used her magic to light up the torches which showed small cages which held the mane six, all of which were isolated from each other, and a huge one that imprisoned Celestia. The ponies began to wake up at the sound of Nightmare's hoof steps as she walked over to Celestia's cage who had her back turned.

Nightmare cleared her throat. "Greetings Celestia, I have a favor for you." she greeted. "Could you raise the sun for me so that the ponies can grow thier food and continue to serve under my rule?"

Celestia turned her head to look at Nightmare with her forelegs folded.

"What's the magic word?" Celestia asked back.

Nightmare didn't want to say it, but she had to. "Please?"

Celestia blew a raspberry back at her in complete defiance.

"Going to behave like a spoiled filly, are we?"

Celestia then completely turned to look at her. "You have a lot of nerve to say that I'm spoilt when you are the one who is running this castle around like a dolls house."

"Don't bring my childhood into this!"

"Uh excuse me, but would you mind taking it outside?" Pinkie asked. "We can't really be sad with you two arguing?"

"Fine!" Nightmare and Celestia said together as Nightmare opened Celestia's cage and they both vanished.

They then appeared in the fields, Celestia noticed that the moon was nowhere to be seen.

"You do realize that without food, there will be no pony left on this world to bask in the eternal night." Nightmare said.

"But why call it eternal night if you need sunlight?" Celestia asked with a smirk "Isn't that what you always wanted?"

"Don't give me that look. It reminds me of the time when you kept beating me at chess!"

"Oh, so you do remember having fun in the daylight?"

"Daylight? I never got the chance to see the light of day when we became princesses!"

Just then, a farmer pony approached them with shivers.

"Your highness, our food supply is close to empty!" he exclaimed, "We need sunlight and-"

"Yes, little pony?" Celestia asked calmly.

"Uh, Princess? You're free?"

"So sister." Celestia smirked. "Have you had enough yet?"

Nightmare growled and threw off her helmet.

"Alright! Alright!" she exclaimed. "Take your worthless daylight back, I'll just slumber away in the castle!" her stomach rumbled again "And possibly find some source of food."

Nightmare then vanished and Celestia began to raise the sun with not much effort.

"Thank you, princess, now we can live on in harmony again!"

"It is my pleasure, I now believe it is time for me to resume my leadership of Equestria once more."

And with that, Celestia flew up and on her way to the castle where she successfully undid all the changes that were made by Nightmare Moon. The food supply began to increase dramatically and all the ponies celebrated on Celestia's return. The six ponies were then released, much to thier absolute joy.

As for Nightmare Moon, she now slumbers in the dungeon, completely free but in the eyes of the ponies, at least she got what she wanted. Eternal darkness, but with no throne or a kingdom to rule. Eventually though, she would come to realize her errors and seek forgiveness, but time will tell if it comes too late.
