Doctor Whooves: The Return
Chapter 1 Home
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt is said that in the final days of Equestria, everypony has bad dreams. To the northwest of that world, the pony race did gather, in celebration of a pagan rite to banish the dark and the cold. Each and everyone of those ponies had dreamt of the terrible things to come, but they had forgotten. They had forgotten because they had to. They had forgotten their nightmares of fire and war... and insanity.
They had all forgotten, except for one...
Location: Ponyville , Equestria
Time: 10:00 A.M.
As the TARDIS appeared in front of Derpy's house, the a Doctor, accompanied by Derpy herself, walked outside. "Ah, Ponyville!" The Doctor beamed as he looked at the familiar scenery. "Just as we left it. Well, right about... 5 minutes ago." The Doctor chuckled.
"Yeah, it's great!" Derpy said. "Well, I'm heading off to see what's new in Ponyville, if anything. I'll see you later, Doctor!"
"Indeed you shall," the Doctor said as he trotted back into his TARDIS. "Don't be too long!"
While Derpy was walking, she noticed something weird on a light pole a poster. It read, "Vote Saxon for Mayor".
"Hmm... this is strange. I don't remember Ponyville have elections for mayor."
She looked at the tiny date in the corner, presumably when the poster was made.
It had been printed months ago. With this strange information, she decided to take a trip to Town Hall.
Meanwhile, the Doctor was busy working on timey wimey stuff when suddenly he looked up and saw Ood Sigma standing there before him.
"What do you want?" the Doctor said, immediate senses of fear grasping at him.
"Your song is ending." Ood Sigma said.
"I know, I can sense it coming closer."
"It will knock four times. Then..." Ood Sigma disappeared from the TARDIS.
"I refuse to die," the Doctor exclaimed, "not today, not tomorrow, and not for years to come!"
As Derpy walked up to the door of the Mayor's office, she gently knocked on the door.
"Come in," said a voice on the other side. The voice was not sounding like the Mayor she knew.
As she open the door she noticed a stallion standing there with a light pale color of fur and a light color of blonde for his mane and tail. He had a short stubble beard on his face, and finally his cutie mark was a scepter that was diagonally facing a crown.
"So, why are you here miss....?" the stallion said strangely, not knowing this mare's name.
"Oh, um, Hooves, Derpy Hooves."
"So Miss... Hooves, why are you here?" the stallion said.
"Umm.. I have kinda been out of town for the past few days so... why are you mayor instead of Mayor Mare?" Derpy said.
"Well Ms. Mare has been getting older and sicker to the point she couldn't complete her work very well." The stallion put on a forced smile. "So eventually, Princess Twilight and Prince Flash had to let her go. Before she left, however, Pinkie Pie, along with her husband Cheese Sandwich, threw her the biggest goodbye party I have ever seen. An election was held three days after she left, and I was chosen to become Ponyville's newest Mayor. And then, well, here we are."
"I do feel better knowing that Ponyville will be in more capable hooves than before, but-"
"You have no idea. Ponyville will be JUST fine." the stallion did his best at concealing a grin.
As Derpy headed towards the door, she realized that she had forgotten to ask him a very important question.
"By the way," Derpy said, her head peering into the Mayor's office one more time, "what's your name, mister?"
"Saxon." the stallion started. "Harold Saxon."
"Nice to meet you, Saxon." Derpy left the room.
Saxon got up from his chair and looked at Ponyville from the balcony. "Tick tock goes the clock....where are you, Doctor?"
As Derpy arrived back at the TARDIS, she was shocked to see the Doctor... crying.
"What's wrong, Doctor?" Derpy said in a concerning voice.
"I'm going to die." The Doctor said sadly.
"Well, so will I one day." Derpy joked.
"Don't you dare!" he said.
"Alright, I'll try not to!" Derpy said as she chuckled.
"But I was told: 'It will knock four times'. That was the prophecy, knock four times and then..." the Doctor tried to continue, but was consumed with sadness.
Derpy was confused, but then asked, "Yeah, but I thought your people could change like your whole body, right?"
"I can still die," the Doctor started, "if I'm killed before regeneration."
"But..." the Doctor added, "Even then, even if I change, it feels like dying. Everything I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away... and I'm dead."
When she heard this from him, she could only make out two his emotions: fear and sadness.
What happened next had the Doctor stunned. He felt hooves wrapped around his waist. As he opened his tear-filled eyes, he saw Derpy hugging him.
"I will never let you die," she said, "as long as I am here beside you, healing your broken heart. I will never ever let you feel any kind of sadness ever again."
The Doctor, who had experienced so much sadness in his life, started to smile. Nonetheless, he knew that he would still die no matter what happened.
As Derpy released from the hug, she said, "I will spend the rest of my life with you so you can remain happy."
The Doctor smiled at the comment, but then said in a sad voice, "You can't stay with me forever."
Derpy heard this, and was fairly disappointed. "Why not?"
"Because," the doctor said, "no matter how long you travel with me, you will eventually age and then..." He stopped mid-sentence.
"But, you will age too." Derpy said.
"I don't age. I regenerate. But humans decay; you wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone that you--" The Doctor was consumed with too many emotions to continue.
"Someone that you what, Doctor?" Derpy asked curiously.
The Doctor then said, "You can spend the rest of your life with me, but... I can't spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on. Alone. That's the curse of the Time Lords."
