08 - The Hidden Secret of Bulbasaur!

Previous Chapter

Ash, Misty, and Brock have just left Cerulean City after Ash's victory at the gym. "Hey, Brock," Ash said, "where should we go to now?"

"It seems as though the next city we need to go to is Vermillion City," he replied. "The leader of the gym uses Electric Ponymon. I believe a Ground Type might be able to defeat them."

They soon started walking across a bridge with a raging river on the bottom. "Whatever you do, don't look down," Ash told Misty. But Misty tripped and caused one side of the bridge to break. The three heroes soon grabbed on. "Well that didn't work out the way I hoped..."

"Ash, I don't think I can hold on much longer!" Brock said with his hooves slipping.

"You're a Unicorn, you can teleport to the other side!" Ash said back.

"Oh yeah I completely forgot." Brock then used his magic to teleport himself to where the Bridge was going to lead the trainers to. Ash and Misty then used their wings to fly up and over to Brock. "Let's make sure we never do that again..."

Ash walked ahead with his Pikachu out of his Ponyball. A lot of Grass Ponymon were around the area he was in. He then saw a Ponymon that really interested him. "I wonder what that one is." He got closer to it and noticed it was a Bulbasaur. He got out his Ponydex to try and get more information.

"001 - Bulbasaur is a Grass and Poison Type Ponymon. A strange seed was planted on it at birth. The plant sprouts and grows with the Ponymon. First one met - Level 9"

Ash put the Ponydex away. "That seems like a really strong Ponymon." Misty tried to go over to it so she can make a sneaky capture (since Ash found it near a small pond). The Bulbasaur turned away. Misty got a Ponyball out and--

CRACK! BANG!

Misty fell into a hole that was covered up. Ash rushed to help her giving the Ponymon enough time to make a run for it. "Misty are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just not my day."

"You know, I think something strange is going on. First the bridge broke, then a hole appeared, it sounds to me like this entire area is a trap for ponies."

"Yeah, it sure looks that way," Brock agreed.

The three kept walking and saw a small cottage with a lot of Ponymon. They looked around and thought it is a paradise for young Ponymon. Soon enough, Ash saw a young mare in front of him. "Hello there young trainer," she said. "I'm Melanie, the caretaker of this area. Who are you?"

"I'm Ash Ketchum," Ash replied. "I see you take care of the Ponymon around here."

"This is a place where the Ponymon come and relax. When a Ponymon gets abandoned or injured, they come here so I can take care of them and make them feel better. Then they leave into the wild."

"So does that mean you're a doctor?" Misty asked walking to them.

"No," she replied. "I'm not qualified to be that. You see, the Ponymon here don't battle so they relax and try to recover."

Ash smiled. "Wow, who knew there can be more than one harmonious area around Kanto. But now that I think about it, I wonder who dug the hole and made the bridge real weak."

"Sorry about that, I was the one that set the traps," Melanie said. "I wanted to catch ponies before they caught any Ponymon here. Since you were caught, I guess they work. I needed to find a way to protect the many injured Ponymon around here."

Team Rocket's Jessie, James, and Meowth were currently crossing the trapped bridge at that moment. "Just imagine a hundred Ponymon all at our disposal when we catch them," Jessie said grinning with delight.

"How exactly will we carry them all?" James replied.

"We'll figure that out later..." Meowth said to James. The three started to hear a ripping sound, then looked down at the bridge to notice one of the ropes being pulled apart. The bridge then snapped in half and they fell into the river. "Why!? Why does all this stuff happen to us!?"

"Now are those traps able to keep robbers away?" Ash asked Melanie.

"I'm not sure, why do you ask?"

"Well, I'm pretty sure they have to be really bad at their job to not watch where they're going."

"If it is the third hole they fallen into, then they must be hidden cleverly."

"Are there any net traps as well?"

"There sure are, I'm surprised you didn't fall into one."

Misty and Brock, however, were taking care of the Water Ponymon on the other side of the resting area. The Bulbasaur they met earlier walked over to the two and decided to help out. "Can you imagine having a Ponymon like that?" Misty asked Brock.

"I sure can," Brock replied. "I think it would be great to have a Ponymon that is strong-hearted towards others." The Bulbasaur nodded.

Above the clouds, Team Rocket were flying a stadium. "Now this is what I call a better plan," James said to Jessie.

"Absolutely," Jessie replied. "We can catch hundreds of Ponymon from up here."

"They thought they could trick us with their holes and their nets, but now we'll show a force they never met!"

The stadium landed next to the village. "Them again?" Ash said to himself and then facehoofed in embarrassment. "Those three sure do never run out of ideas..."

"Alright James, activate the vacuum!" Jessie instructed.

James started entering a long pin number on a control pad. "Why'd we even program it this way!?" The system activated and a tube came out of the stadium. It started sucking in the Ponymon within the village.

"What do we do now?" Melanie asked.

Pikachu started to get sucked in. "Pikachu, no!" Ash called out. Bulbasaur knew his frustration and he let out his vines to pull Pikachu to safety. "Thanks Bulbasaur."

Bulbasaur gave Pikachu back to Ash and then used its Vine Whip attack to shut down the tube, while also managing to not let any Ponymon into the stadium.

"Oh no! Our plan backfired!" Jessie said.

"Relax, I've got a move that they won't forget," James said.

Ash threw Pidgeotto's Ponyball. It opened and Pidgeotto came out. "Okay, use your Whirlwind attack on that tube!" Pidgeotto caused the wind to blow at the tube and make it fly on top of the stadium. Team Rocket looked up to see the tube and as it came down, the stadium exploded launching them into the air.

"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Twinkle!

Bulbasaur nuzzled Ash. "What's up Bulbasaur?" The Bulbasaur looked at an empty Ponyball. "Are you saying you want to come with me?" Bulbasaur nodded.

Melanie gave an excited squee. "Sweet Celestia I can't believe it! Bulbasaur is going out into the world to become even stronger than ever! I just couldn't believe it, a trainer helped save my village and gave Bulbasaur a look at what a good trainer can do. Ash, I'm sure Bulbasaur will become stronger and happier with you and your Ponymon." Ash's Pidgeotto chirped in agreement. "But he has a certain condition... he would like to battle anypony he thinks would be a good trainer to him."

"In that case, let's do it!" Ash replied. He returned Pidgeotto to its Ponyball. Bulbasaur backed up to make some room for where they would battle.

Pikachu and Bulbasaur charged at each other. Bulbasaur used its Vine Whip against Pikachu to try and grab it. It failed the first few times, but hit its target after a few more tries. Bulbasaur then threw Pikachu up and down.

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Ash commanded. Pikachu's body lit up with electricity and caused the vines to electrocute all the way to the Bulbasaur. The Ponymon fell over, releasing Pikachu. "Ponyball, Go!" Ash then threw his Ponyball at Bulbasaur. It got into the ball with a flash of red light. It shook a few times, but clicked shut. "Gotcha!" Ash picked up the Ponyball.

"Take good care of Bulbasaur Ash," Melanie said to him.

"I will Melanie," he replied. "Take care Melanie."

"You too Ash."

Ash, Misty, and Brock then walked off towards Vermillion City, which is a few days away from them.

Author's Note

You know, I can't believe they stole a stadium as well. I know some of you are thinking that.
