When The Night Fades Away
The calm nighttime air of Ponyville was serene. Leaves rustled through the empty streets as a slight breeze whistled quietly. Crickets chirped peacefully, the entire scene was clam and mellow, adding that traditional serendipity to the night environment. The door to Surgarcube Corner slammed open with a bang, and a lavender alicorn stumbled out, supported by a much more sober cyan pegasus.
"Wazzn' dat da bestest purty eva'?" slurred the comically drunken Twilight Sparkle as Rainbow struggled to guide her down the steps safely.
"Yeah, it was Twi," grunted back Rainbow Dash. The normally sober egghead had been funny at first, but all of the humor quickly drained away when Rarity had told Dash it was the pegasus's duty as 'Loyalty' to take the princess home. "Let's get you home."
They began to walk away from the party, Dash supporting Twilight, and the sight was something out of one of those bad comedy movies. Where the stallions tried to walk home from the bar, only to end up crashing into everything on the street. But eventually, Twilight's home came into view, and Rainbow sighed in relief as she headed towards it.
The two stumbled towards the obnoxiously large crystal palace centered just outside the town's perimeter. "Y'no Dash?" mumbled Twilight, suddenly sounding extremely serious. "Yer eggshtrmley HOT fer a mare..." she trailed off staring into Dash's widening eyes.
That statement made the pegasus realize that Twilight, was indeed, completely and totally out of her mind. "G- great, Twilight. Why don't we just get you inside, and you can lie down..." she replied as she struggled to get the great crystal door open. That is, until the great crystal door suddenly glowed purple and smashed open into her face.
Rubbing her crushed nose, Rainbow grumbled and helped the giggling alicorn inside and up to her royal bedroom. Making sure to stand out of the way as the bedroom door slammed open, she guided Twilight inside, yelping slightly as the door slammed closed into her rump. Glaring at the all-out laughing alicorn, she eased her over to the giant bed, and helped her in.
Turning to walk away, she mumbled good night, but was stopped by Twilight's magic glowing around her, holding her in place. "Hey! What gives, Twi?" she asked as she felt a sudden tightness around her flank. But as soon as the discomfort came,it was gone. Slowly, she floated backwards until she was hovering over the bed, and was turned to face Twilight.
As the lavender mare gyrated Dash's position so she was vertical, the pegasus realized that the alicorn was not looking directly at her, but rather at something near her stomach. Confused she looked down. Her look quickly altered from confusion, to surprise, to shock, and then to all-out fear.
"T-twilight?" she asked in a shaky voice as the glow brought her closer to the awed alicorn. Looking back down as Twilight's muzzle moved ever close to her, she gulped. Dash whimpered slightly as the princess kissed the head of her newly spawned penis.
"Twilight, p- please stop..." moaned Rainbow as Twilight began to greedily suck on the huge dick that the pegasus was now sporting. "What are you doing?"
Conflicting emotions were running through Dash's mind. She knew that this was wrong, and she should force Twilight to stop, but as the mare continued to do... whatever it was she was doing with her mouth, Rainbow Dash really didn't want it to stop.
However, it did eventually stop. Just as the pegasus was about to call out in relief, and order Twilight to let her go, she felt herself being moved again as the alicorn got out of the bed, and turned around in front of her.
"Oh no Twi... please don't-" began Rainbow as Twilight lowered her forelegs, and raised her flank, presenting her dripping marehood to the cyan mare. "Twilight, I'm not going to- RUT YOU!!!!"
Dash cried out as her hips were forcefully bucked into the lavender mare, her length pumping in and out at an obscene pace. "T- Twilight! Please!" she cried. Rainbow had no idea whether or not she could actually seed her drunken friend, but she didn't want that possibility. All that she could hear in reply were Twilight's loud moans rising up from the mattress below her...
When Twilight woke up, she had a splitting headache, and felt like she was going to puke. Thankfully, she didn't however, and was able to retain self control enough to force the bile back down into her stomach.
Moaning in pain, the princess attempted to turn over onto her side, but soon realized that she was unable to do so. Forcing her eyes open to greet the nauseous light, Twilight discovered the source of her entrapment. Rainbow Dash was lying on top of her.
The purple Alicorn lay there for a moment, heart beating out of her chest, and contemplated the situation. Finding no reasonable solution, she did the first natural thing that came to her: Twilight screamed and pushed Rainbow off of her.
Rainbow Dash awoke and slammed onto the hard crystal floor with a dull thud. Remembering last night's events more easily than the Alicorn staring down at her, she glared at Twilight as she stood up. But not before checking between her legs to see if the monstrosity was gone. Thank Celestia it was.
"Well 'friend,'" sneered Dash, emphasizing "friend" sarcastically. "Are you happy now?"
Twilight just stared at the pegasus with a confused look on her face. What was she talking about? Then, almost as if against her will, the events of the night prior flooded back into her mind.
The lavender mare gasped, shocked at her own actions. How could she have done that to her good and loyal friend? Unfortunately for her, she knew the answer...
Twilight had been secretly harboring emotions for the prismatic pegasus for quite a long time. The feelings, as far as she could tell, had begun to grow when Rainbow had quit the Wonderbolt academy, just to be with her friends. Even if the gesture had been completely debunked when Spitfire accepted Dash back in, Twilight still took the action to heart. Her friend was willing to give up her dreams if they had even the slightest possibility of hurting her friends.
After that happened, Twilight realized that Rainbow Dash was the type of stallion she always dreamed of taking as her groom. And in that action, opened up the lavender mare's sight to being romantically involved with a mare. She had heard ponies joke, saying that they'd "go gay" for their best friend, but she took the saying to truth. Now, the time since then, her feelings had only grown stronger, and more desperate; just for all of her hopes to be smashed to pieces by her first time getting drunk.
Solemnly, Twilight raised her head to look her former friend in the eyes. "I'm sorry, Rainbow. I truly am. But before you storm off..." Twilight choked back a sob. "Before you storm off, there's something I need to tell you."
Rainbow blew her mane out of her face in annoyance. "Well?" she sneered. "Spit it out!"
Twilight sighed. This was going to be extremely hard for her, especially knowing that there was no possible way that Rainbow would reciprocate her feelings. "I- I've liked you for a while now, Dash. As more than a friend. It was starting to get to me. Then I had to go and get drunk, and-"
The cyan pegasus recoiled in shock. Twilight liked her? Is that why she practically raped her? That was her excuse for her actions.
"Twilight!" Rainbow stopped her there. "Don't go making excuses as to why you did what you did! Even if you did have feelings for me, that doesn't mean you should go and rape me to express them!" she screamed at the now visibly crying mare.
"Rainbow, I didn't rape you. Please don't say I raped you," sobbed a distraught Twilight, almost begging the pegasus in front of her.
The pegasus, in turn, just glared back at the Princess. "You had sex with me. No, wait. You forced me to have sex with you. That's rape." Her voice had become disturbingly calm. Twilight just looked back at her,a defeated look in her more bloodshot eyes.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled, over and over again. "I'm sorry."
Rainbow didn't stick around to listen to the apologetic mare. She swiftly turned around, and flew out off of Twilight' s balcony, the door smashing shut behind her.
And Twilight, heavy with a broken heart, just collapsed into her floor and cried.
Rainbow Dash plowed into her cloud house, not even bothering to close up the hole left behind her. She sped right to her room, and collapsed into her soft bed, and began to sob. It just made no sense to her. Why did Twilight take advantage of her like that? Of all the ponies she knew, Twilight was the one she had least suspected of ever even thinking about sexually using somepony.
But she had raped her.
Looking back on the night, rape did begin to seem like a strong word to describe the night. Twilight didn't hurt her in any physical way. And Rainbow supposed that she herself could have done more to stop Twilight. Relatively, Rainbow hadn't been hurt any more than when she was bullied back in flight school. But there was something way different about this.
Something in her, something strong, was trying to prevent her from hating Twilight at all costs. It was to the point that she felt heart broken, not only because Twilight had used her, but also because... because why? Was it that she lost a friend?
Slowly, Rainbow's mind began to formulate exactly what her feelings were. Slowly, the pegasus realized, that perhaps she did think of Twilight as more than a friend. But a lover?
She didn't know. The knowledge that Twilight harbored feelings for her made the situation even more difficult.
Another thing that bothered her, one of the many, was as to why Twilight was even drunk in the first place. She was not the type of pony to even drunk often, let alone randomly get dunk at one of Pinkie' s weekly parties. Dash briefly considered the possibility that Twilight was faking it, but the thought quickly vanished. The confusion that the alicorn had the morning after was too genuine to be fake. But why did she get dunk?
A studious mare such as Twilight would know the symptoms of getting a buzz far before she was incapacitated as she was. Twilight would have known she was getting drunk, and consciously continued drinking, an act that as far as Rainbow thought, she would never do.
Twilight freaked out whenever the smallest thing was wrong, even more so now that she was a princess. Twilight normally would have worried about what Celestia would have thought of her getting drunk first, and undoubtedly she did think about it. That led Dash to one conclusion.
The entire evening was planned.
It all made sense. Twilight didn't think she could ask Rainbow out while she was sober, so tried on alcohol to do the work for her. It even explained the sex. Instead of asking her out, Twilight's clouded mind expressed her love for the pegasus physically. But the penis? That was the one thing that Rainbow couldn't rationalize, so she merely put it out of her mind for the time.
Rainbow didn't know how long she lay there on her bed, time was meaningless. Over and over again, she repeated the events in her head, sorting through them, and finding dozens of reasonable explanations as to why they had occurred.
As she worked through all of the possible explanations and rationalizations for the actions of the lavender alicorn, Rainbow heard a timid pat on her cloud door. She walked out of her bedroom and to her front door, opening it to reveal a visibly upset Fluttershy.
"H-hey Shy," crooked Rainbow Dash, surprised at how raw her voice sounded. "What's up?"
A tear rolled down her muzzle as she hesitantly spoke, "Are you okay, Rainbow? Nopony has seen you in days, and you look like you've been crying."
Rainbow cocked an ear in confusion. "Days? But I was just at Pinkie's party last night!"
Fluttershy longed genuinely concerned for her friend now. "Dash, Pinkie' s party was two days ago."
The realization hit Rainbow like a ton of bricks. Now that she was thinking about it, she was starving, and smelled like horseapples. Also, she had spent two whole days trying to find a way to explain Twilight's actions in a way that allowed the two to still be friends. Perhaps, if Rainbow was trying that hard to forgive the alicorn, maybe, maybe she liked Twilight back.
"I'm fine, Shy," she said, still thinking about the new realization. "Just a little... under the weather."
The yellow pegasus didn't look convinced. "Well, okay Rainbow, if you say so, I won't pry." She began to look upset again as she spoke again. "But, that's not what I came here to talk to you about."
"Oh?" Rainbow said absently. "What then?"
Fluttershy bit back a sob. "Rainbow, Shining Armor died earlier today. Twilight's brother is dead."
Rainbow Dash froze. "What?" she asked, desperately hoping she misheard.
"P-please don't make me repeat it," sobbed Fluttershy, desperately trying to hold it together.
"H-how?" asked Dash, not faring much better then her fellow pegasus. "How did he... y'know..."
Fluttershy just shook her head solemnly. "I- we don't know. All t-that we know is w-what Spike told us," she explained.
"Is Twilight okay?" asked Dash, immediately concerned for her friend, possible crush.
The question made the yellow mare visibly deflate even more. "She hasn't left her palace. Spike didn't make it sound like she was doing too well..." she trailed off.
Rainbow ran a hoof through her mane. "I have to go see her." She made to go by Fluttershy, ready to take off, but the shy pegasus held her back with a surprising amount of force.
"No, Rainbow!" she said. "She said that she didn't want anypony coming to see her. She wouldn't even let Spike in!" She gently pushed Dash back into her home.
"A-alright," she said defeated. "Thank you for telling me Fluttershy." The yellow pegasus gave a small nod, and after a brief hug, left.
Rainbow returned to her bed, and lay down. She felt broken. There was no possible way that her lavender friend would easily be able to deal with this. Not only had her brother, and best friend, died so unexpectedly, but she had her love rejected not two days earlier. And to top it all off, she was quite possibly pregnant.
That was a lot of stress to deal with. Not even to begin on how depressed the poor alicorn must feel. Rainbow didn't think that she herself would be able to live through that. Suddenly, she sat upwards as a horrible thought raced through her mind.
She didn't think that Twilight was the type of pony to consider suicide, but she had been surprised by her actions before. "Oh no, Twi... please be alright," prayed Rainbow as she flew out her window, and rocketed towards the massive crystal palace at the edge of Ponyville. While her feelings to Twilight were still uncertain, one thing was certain.
Nothing would be able to comfort Twilight, but there was one thing that could come as close as you could get. Rainbow Dash knew that in her heart, she had forgiven the Princess, and could qualm the fears the lavender mare had of forever losing a friend.
The cyan pegasus landed softly on a balcony, right outside the doors that she had shot out of two days prior. Fluttershy had known that Twilight was locked in her bedroom, so this was probably the only way in at the moment. Slowly and quietly she eased the door open, and peeked into the dark room.
The only source of light was a beam from the partially opened door, riding across the room, and coming to rest on the still figure of a winged pony lying on the bed. "Twi?" called out Rainbow as she hesitantly stepped further into the room. No answer returned to her. She trotted up to the bed, and gently shook the mare. "Twi? P-please answer me..." said Dash as she began to tear up, her worst fears seeming to come true. Then Twilight stirred.
"R-rainbow Dash?" said Twilight as she rolled over to face her disturbance. And she instantly began to apologize. "I- I'm so s-sorry..." she said, beginning to cry, uttering apology after apology. Rainbow just hugged the apologetic mare close to her.
"Twi, it's alright," she said softly, rubbing Twilight's back. "I'm here now."
Twilight's crying gradually slowed and she sniffled. "I s-said that I d-didn't want to see a-anypony," she mumbled.
Rainbow only held her weeping friend tighter. "Twi, you need somepony right now. And also, I should be the one saying I'm sorry, not you." She nuzzled Twilight affectionately. "I'm sorry, Twi."
The lavender alicorn's bawling came back in full force, soaking the cyan pegasus's shoulder. "W-why did he h-have t-to die?" she choked into the comforting embrace. "Why d-did they k-kill him?"
Dash was taken aback by the last thing Twilight spluttered. But she knew that now wasn't the appropriate time to question. All that she could do now was provide comfort. And in doing so, began to heal the wounds that she had created.
"W-why did you come b-back?" sniffled Twilight, rubbing her nose with a hoof as she separated from the pegasus. "Don't you... don't you hate me?"
Dash looked at her hooves fiddling with the bed sheets. "Do you want the easy version... or the long one?" she asked, hesitant to bring the subject up while her friend was in this weakened state.
"I just want the truth, Rainbow."
The cyan pegasus sighed. "Well, I went home that morning after... y'know. And I cried. A lot. I really just couldn't believe that one of my friends had used me. Especially you." Twilight's eyes teared up again at that, threatening to break into another bout of all-out sobbing. Rainbow noticed this, and hastily threw a wing around the mare while she continued.
"I couldn't help but be angry with you, and part of me wanted to reject you as a friend," she said sadly. As the alicorn's sobs came in earnest this time, she quickly continued while pulling Twilight closer to her side. "But, another, better part of me knew I could never hate you."
Rainbow looked down at the crying mare. "That part of me spent two days trying to come up with a reason for why you did what you did. It tried so hard, Twilight. And because it was trying to hard, I realized something." She lifted the lavender mare's head up with a hoof. "It made me realize... it made me realize that I may like you as more than a friend, too."
Part of Dash wanted to kiss Twilight then and there. To feel the touch of her newly found love's lips on her own. But she didn't think it was the right time. Twilight must have been thinking something along the same lines, because she leaned forward slightly, but hesitated, her eyes still teary, but a beaming blush creeping over her face. Rainbow somehow knew that a kiss would probably make Twilight feel so much better, and relieve some of the immense pain she must be feeling.
'Oh what the buck, we've already had freaking sex!' thought Dash as she closed the remaining distance, gently pushing the two mare's lips together in a loving, long kiss. 'Plus, she looked like she needs it...'
The lavender mare's eyes widened as Dash's lips pushed into hers. This feeling, she could live in it forever. It didn't take away the pain, but it dulled it to the point where it didn't matter anymore. Some naughty part of her meaninglessly wondered why she didn't attempt to kiss the mare two night ago.
Neither mare sought entry into the other's mouth. Both were content with the simple kiss, holding the two of them close together. As they broke apart, they looked into each others eyes, Twilight whispering a silent "thank you" to the mare.
"I-I suppose I should tell you about that night," mumbled Twilight, but the pegasus quickly put a cyan hoof to her lips.
"Shhhhh. Not now. For now, let's just pretend it never happened, alright?" she smiled softly at the relieved mare. "You can tell me later, after all of this is over. It can be years from now. It doesn't matter if you take the secret to your grave." Rainbow pulled Twilight closer to her, allowing the alicorn to bury her weeping head in her fuzzy breast. "All that matters to me is the present."
As Twilight gently drifted off to sleep, finally content in the loving arms of her new marefriend, she couldn't help but think one final, saddening thought.
'Why did it take the death of my big brother for her to discover her feelings.'
She couldn't bear the thought, because if that were indeed true, it could also be true that Rainbow's feelings for her weren't entirely genuine. For not the first time that week, Twilight softly cried herself to sleep.
