Chapter One
Twilight Sparkle was never really all that curious about the castle that she had lived in for most of her life as Princess Celestia’s student and now as a Princess of Equestria. She had just been content to go about her duties and her studies and spend time with Luna and Fluttershy when she was in Canterlot, her two true loves other than her books. It was on a day that Luna was with Princess Celestia in some council meetings with the Griffin Republic and the Nations of the west. Twilight did not need to be there, she was never really interested with the politics of other countries and since she did not have to be there she didn’t go. Fluttershy could not come to the palace because she had to help Zacora with some of the new animals starting to appear in the Everfree Forest. Spike had to go to the crystal empire for the Princesses and get some reports. So Twilight had to entertain herself and she had already read almost all the books in the royal library, the only ones left were the ones that Princess Celestia had locked up because they were full of dark magic.
Twilight had decided to explore the castle a bit more than what she had done in the past. Most of the exploring she had done in the past was just to find a quiet place to read when the library was noisy. But today it was different it was, Twilight was exploring because she wanted too, no other reason. She had explored most of the castle already and now she had found her way into Princess Celestia’s personal wing of the castle. Twilight had explored Luna’s personal wing so much she knew it by heart, but Princess Celestia’s wing was completely different. It was almost backwards compared to Luna’s wing and there were many new discoveries in Princess Celestia’s wing. Twilight Sparkle was curious about many new things. That was one of the reasons she enjoyed being princess Celestia’s student because of all the new things she learned from her. Twilight was wondering around the bottom of the tower that was Princess Celestia’s wing when saw a door that seemed out of place. There was a single guard protecting the door but he was asleep probably because he did not see a lot of traffic.
“I wonder where this door leads too” said too herself as she walked up to the door.” Excuse me” Twilight said as she tapped the solder on the shoulder. The solder jerked and looked around. As soon as he saw Twilight he started to get scared. He did not have a helmet which told Twilight that he was a new recruit and this was his first guard position and he was caught napping on the job.
“P…P…P…Princess Sparkle, w…w…w…what are you doing down here,” he stuttered. Twilight had a hard time not giggling at his reaction.
“Oh just exploring “Twilight said. “Where does this door lead too?”
“Um I don’t really know to tell you the truth. When I was stationed here I was just told to not let anyone in except Princess Celestia.” He said as he started to calm down from his earlier scare.
“Really, not even Princess Luna?”
“No ma’am” the guard said.
“Strange, The princess usually lets her sister into places that now one else is allowed” Twilight said more to herself than the guard. The guard just shrugged his shoulders. “So I guess that means I’m not allowed through the door ether, huh.”
The guard shock his head and said, “I’m afraid not Princess”
The curiosity that Twilight felt for what was behind the door was starting get out of hand and the mischievousness that she had picked up from Rainbow and Pinkie was starting creep into her mind.
“Ok well I’ll see you later than, oh and don’t worry about the napping I won’t tell anyone” Twilight said as she started to walk away and winked at him. The guard blinked, then shook himself and saluted.
As Twilight walked away, her brain was already working on how to get the guard away from the door so that she could go through and see what was on the other side. She decided that she would use a diversion strategy that Rarity taught her to get guys to go away, she just hoped it would work on the guard.
“Oh,” Twilight finned surprise and turned around. “What was your name?” she asked.
“Um, Meteor Runner,” he said a bit apprehensively.
“Really, oh good my brother was looking for someone named that.” Twilight said clapping her hands together. “You should probably go and see him, he seemed rather perturbed about something involving you it must be important.”
The guard got a look of fear in his eyes. “ w...w…w…what oh no I don’t think I have done anything wrong I didn’t even know that he was in Canterlot, I thought he was still in the Cristal Empire.” He said while he ran his hand through his hair.
“I can watch over this door while you go and see him, if you’d like.” Twilight said with a very Sweet voice.
“Would you, oh thank you so much, I’ll go and see Captain Armor Right away. Thank you again” the guard said as he started to run off toward the barracks.
As Twilight watched him run away she had the sudden thought that that was not a very nice thing to do to that guard, he would probably get in trouble for leaving his post, especially because her brother Shining Armor was not at the barracks but was in the Cristal Empire with Princess Cadence. Twilight would most likely get a talking to from both Princess Celestia and her brother when they found out but she decided that she would deal with that when it came, but for now she had a door and what lay beyond to explore.
As Twilight opened the door she got a burst of warm air to the face. When her eyes had adjusted to the gloom of the staircase behind the door, she started to descend the stairs. It was really long, Twilight must have gone down at least 200 feet in a straight ling before the first turn and then it started to spiral down and down. After the first turn Twilight had to use her magic to light her way because there was no other light, no light bulbs or even sockets, or even torches. Twilight was walking for about half an hour before she saw any other kind of light except her own. She turned a corner and found herself in a long low hall from what she could see there was a single torch on the opposite wall to a cage door. Before she could do anything however there was a sudden light chuckle that came from the door.
“You must be new, Tia doesn’t allow magic down here,” a soft voice spoke through the gloom. “She’s afraid magic will lessen the seals that hold me here.” Twilight froze; there was no way that there was someone down here.
“But whatever, are you here with my food I am ever so hungry,” the voice said with an almost sing song voice. Again Twilight did not move or speak, she had no idea what was down here but she knew that whatever it was Celestia had put it down here for a reason. And she did not want to know what that reason was. She started to back up the stairs slowly, she wanted to turn and run but she was afraid that whatever it was would grab her as soon as her back was turned.
There was another light chuckle. “You’re not here to bring me my food are you? You found your way down here on your own and now you are afraid that if you turn around and run that I will get you?” the voice said a little stronger this time. It sounded to Twilight like the voice was getting closer.
“Why don’t you come over here to the light so that I can see you?” It said. “I am rather lonely as it is and I have not seen another living being other than Celestia, in a very long time.” Twilight was suddenly struck with a thought, ‘the voice did sound like it was lonely but should she really go over to the door?’ But before she could do anything, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Uh Oh, you in trouble now.” The simply said and then was quiet. As Twilight turned to look behind her, she saw Princess Celestia come around the corner. Celestia had a look of worry and a little anger as she swapped down the stairs. She stopped when she saw Twilight. She Stared at Twilight for what felt like hours before she said anything.
“What are you doing down here Twilight Sparkle.” Celestia said with a hard voice.
“Have no fear she hasn’t seen me yet,” the voice said.
“SILENTES,” Celestia roared with anger in her voice and on her face. Twilight had never seen her mentor and her friend this angry, it scared Twilight. Twilight’s fear must have shone on her face because Celestia Expression softened. ”Please Twilight go up stairs and meet me in my chambers.” She said softly. All Twilight could do was nod and start to walk back up the stairs. She looked back just in time to see Celestia in front of the door, and she heard the voice say.
“Did you really have to yell you scared the crap out of her, although it was nice to finally meet your Student even if I never actually got to see her?” It said. That was the last thing Twilight heard as she continued up the stairs, when she got to the top she found the guard from before looking like he was about to pass out and Luna standing there with a look of curiosity. Twilight tried to give the guard a reassuring smile but she could not get the look that Celestia had when she had first come down the stairs out of her head.
“Twilight there you are,” Luna said with a look of love but that faded when she saw Twilights face. “Are you ok my dear you look as if you have seen Nightmare moon?” Luna said as she walked over to hold Twilight. It was just last month that Luna had confessed her feelings toward Twilight to her, and while Twilight had been flabbergasted and Honored, she could not return Luna’s feelings because of her love for Fluttershy and Twilight could never do anything to hurt her. Luna had been heartbroken and had locked herself in her tower for a week before the joy she now felt every day came to her. it turned out that Twilight had told Fluttershy what had happened as well as her own feelings that Twilight had for Luna that she had been keeping a secret from Fluttershy two days after because Fluttershy had been able to see the hurt that Twilight was going through. Instead of being angry, like Twilight had thought and was afraid would happen, Fluttershy had told her that no matter what she would always love Twilight and if that meant that there was one more that she had to love to make Twilight happy then she would, of course she would do so. This lead to both her and Twilight going to Luna and telling her that if she were willing to share Twilight with Fluttershy then both of them would love Luna to the fullest extent that they could. Luna had been so over joyed at this that she made a meteor shower rain from the heavens as well as a new constellation of the three of them in a loving embrace. It had become the greatest night of their three lives.
But as Luna looked at Twilight now she had an overwhelming urge to both comfort her as well as find the person responsible for what Twilight was feeling and make them pay dearly.
“What is it, my love what has happened,” Luna asked in a hushed whisper. Twilight just looked up into Luna’s eyes and mumbled something about having to meet Celestia in her chambers. Just then Celestia came up the stairs and close the door with a sharp snap that made Twilight jump in Luna’s arms. She looked at Luna and Twilight her face unreadable, she then to turned to the guard and said.
“Report to the barracks and stay there until I send down you punishment,” She said with a slightly cold voice. At this Twilight’s head perked up and she said
“Please Princess it wasn’t his fault it was me. I was the one that told him that Shinning was looking for him please don’t punish him.” She pleaded. Celestia looked at Twilight and then looked back at the guard.
“Return to your post,” she said simply. “I will have to think about whether or not you are punished.” The guard looked at Celestia and then saluted and returned to the door with renewed confidence. Later he would find out that his punishment would be to days on latrine duty but he was glad to do it. Celestia then looked at Twilight still in Luna’s arms and knew that no matter what she did Luna would not let go.
“Follow me you two there is much I have talk to you about,” she said as she turned and started up the spiral staircase that lead to her chambers.
