A round unvarnished tale of...
This is a series of short stories based in an Equestrian Civil War setting between the Solar Empire and the New Lunar Republic, written (hopefully/maybe/probably not) to work both as standalone and interconnected pieces. They predominately focus on the Mane Six in order to frame events, but also encapsulate the experiences of a number of other characters.
Betrayal:
Twilight considers the approaching conflict and chooses her side, reflecting on who she will lose through her decision.
Duty:
The loyalist imperial forces strike out on their first offensive, crossing the point of no return, but their commanders do not stand united in their opinion of the conflict. As memories burn around them how will they be changed by the fires of war?
Freedom:
Night falls across the land. Far from the lines of battle the imperial metropolis of Manehattan stirs, believing itself safe and free from the cares of the conflict.
Loss:
We lose a great many things in life through our own fault, the actions of others and by the invisible manipulations of fate. Some are recoverable, whilst some are not.
Friendship:
Two views from the opposing sides. (Not a standalone).
Victory:
A final battle, a triumphant victory and then an end to all things, from which rebuilding may follow. The path back to renewal lies ahead if any of this is remotely possible. (This is sort of a conclusion so not a standalone).
Huge thanks go to Haphazard both for creating the cover art and for being a very supportive pre-reader.
Also thank you to anyone who reads my stuff.
Notes:
• The title is based on a quote from William Shakespeare’s Othello (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 94).
• In terms of timeline these are set before Twilight’s ascension.
• I use the word pegasus with both a singular and plural meaning, rather than pegasi, due to personal preference. Apologies if it is an annoyance.
• I welcome any and all feedback (these are both my first attempts at writing fiction in a very long time and first tries at fanfiction full stop).
