The anxiety had been building up for two days. Fluttershy couldn't take it anymore; she couldn't wait anymore. If she stayed here it was all going to come crashing down, she knew it. She had heard nothing from Twilight or any of the others since she bolted out of the library after the alicorn had knocked herself out with Rarity's fire ruby. She had rushed to Carousel Boutique and grabbed Opal. In her panic, she had completely forgotten about Sweetie Belle, but the less she was involved in this, the better. She hoped against hope that Rarity had the foresight to lock the basement door before she had come to "reclaim" her from Twilight at the library.
Now it was time to go. If she didn't get away from here right now, she was going to go nuts. She tore into her bedroom closet and found her saddlebags, and tried to think of essentials to pack, almost nothing of which would be up here in her room. She took the bags down to the kitchen, and began putting as much canned cat food as she could into the left pouch. After that, she did the same thing to the right with food for her. She wouldn't be going far, just out. Out of here. Away from the walls, from the mirrors.
With the saddlebags full, she coaxed Opal into her carrying cage, and fastened it to her saddlebags. Double checking everything was secure, she made for the front door and opened it.
She didn't even get all the way out the front door before she felt a magic aura press and pin her to the ground, and suddenly, she was looking at a pair of golden spears inches from her face. She froze.
"Suspect secured, Captain." The closest Royal Guard informed his commanding officer.
"We have a warrant. Under royal authority, search the premises." The Captain replied. Fluttershy recognized him, he was the officer of the small royal detachment assigned to Ponyville. From her position on the ground, she saw around a half dozen guards begin to go around and in her cottage. Opal whined and hissed from inside her overturned carrying cage. A minute went by as the squad secured her house, going room by room. She heard them declare "Clear!" several times. The search complete, the sergeant returned the Lieutenant.
"There's no one else here, sir. Just her and the cat."
The Lieutenant turned to somepony Fluttershy couldn't see from her position on the ground.
"The cottage is secure, your Maj-"
"Get her up." A new voice interrupted. Fluttershy's fear only increased at the familiar, commanding female voice as the spears were moved away from her head, and the magical aura surrounding her returned her to a standing position before dissipating. Sure enough, Princess Celestia came up the front walk.
"P-Princess Celestia! Where's Rainbow?"
"That's the question, isn't it?" Celestia asked, as if she half-expected her to know.
Fluttershy trembled. She had never heard the Princess speak like this to anypony.
"L-L-Last I saw her she was in the library with me and Twilight two nights ago."
"Rainbow left Ponyville two days ago. She hasn't been seen since. Where were you going?"
Again, aggressive, insinuating, and to the point.
"I-I was afraid the others would blame me for what happened. I just had to get away, I didn't know where I was going to go."
Fluttershy couldn't tell if Celestia was satisfied with her answer.
"House arrest. Restrain her." She ordered to the Lieutenant. Without hesitation, the guard's horn lit up, and a spell was placed on her front left hoof.
"Do not leave the premises. If you require rations, we can arrange that."
Fluttershy was still too stunned to answer.
"Get a detachment to Cloudsdale. Check with her parents."
"She's not up there, your Highness. Sh-she can't fly-"
Celestia's glare returned to her, and Fluttershy thought for a moment that she would be reduced to a pile of ashes. The Princess of the Sun stepped up to her, towering over the shivering Pegasus.
"I know precisely what happened to her. I have Twilight's notes. I have her testimony. What I don't get is you. You are Kindness. How in Tartarus could you ever convince her to cooperate with what you five did to her? Why?"
Fluttershy wanted nothing more than to be a pile of ashes right now. The disbelief, horror, and sorrow was all too apparent in the Princess' voice, but she was too angry to shed a single tear. The same didn't hold true for the pegasus, however, as she turned into a whimpering weeping mess in front of Celestia.
"We're done here for now, gentlecolts." Celestia said, then turned away from Fluttershy without another word, and returned back down the path back to the main road.
Fluttershy did not move. Even minutes after Celestia and the Guard were out of sight, she stood there, petrified and sobbing.
She didn't know how long it took, but eventually she got the strength to turn and head inside. Slowly, step by step, she ascended the stairs to the second floor, and entered her room. Shaking, she approached her nightstand, where a single framed picture stood.
Her and Rarity, posing for a photo right before their first date. Fluttershy picked it up with a quivering hoof, and the two pairs of eyes in the picture bore into her very soul.
Fluttershy slammed the picture frame face down onto the wooden floor as hard as she could, screaming. She stomped on it with her front hooves before leaping into bed, curling up, and wishing that she would implode into nothing.
