My Little Pony Champions of Justice

With the recent attack on Canterlot the two sisters had doubled the guards and patrol around the city to ensure another event wouldn't occur. Especially with one of Equestria’s most favorite holidays; Nightmare Night. Though it was the night that marked the creation of Nightmare Moon it was now the favorite holiday of the foals of Equestria and Princess Luna who flew down to Ponyville every night to celebrate with her subjects. This year, however, was different.

Luna had done her Nightmare Moon routine so many times that the foals who would get scared (or surprised) by her grew fewer and fewer. Even the mayor was having trouble organizing the events, now that the number of attendees had dropped. Twilight and her friends couldn't find a way to liven up the festivities. Aside from a few new games and a maze in front of Sweet Apple Acres, as well as a few ghost stories told by Zecora.

This all seemed very similar to the "Hallows End" holiday back on Azeroth. The games, the trick or treating and the dressing up as monsters. As he sat there, polishing his armor, he overheard the plans Twilight had come up with as she was talking to Applejack.

"Okay so we have the games. What are the stories for tonight?"

"Well there's the Olden Pony, The Pony of Shadows and The Headless Horse."

That last story title struck Valiant with a bolt of inspiration. He dropped his rag, threw a hoof in the air.

"THAT'S IT! I know how we can liven up the festival!" Valiant shouted as Twilight and the others just stared in surprise by their friend’s sudden outburst.

"Okay...so what's your plan Valiant?" Twilight asked, deciding to give her friend a chance, since this would be his first Nightmare Night ever. The ponies listened closely as their friend whispered his plan with great detail.

"A splendid idea darling! I'll get started on your costume right away!" Rarity exclaimed in approval of her friend’s plan, the rest nodding in agreement.

"Okay. Fluttershy tell Discord the plan and Twilight; you inform Princess Luna. This'll be a Nightmare Night for everypony to remember!" Valiant proclaimed as they bumped hooves in unison. That night, as the ponies gathered in the town square, Mayor Mare started the opening ceremonies with her usual announcements.

"Welcome everypony! Welcome to our annual Nightmare Night festival! Now due to some urgent royal business Princess Luna cannot attend this year."

The foals in the crowd grew disappointed, hearing this news as the mayor continued with her announcements. The speech was rather long and boring otherwise, taking up what seemed like hours before she finally began the festival. As the night went on, many of the foals followed Zecora to the statue of Nightmare Moon in the Everfree Forest. They left some candy for Luna, in case she managed to make it. But nothing happened.

Pipsqueak; A young colt who had befriended the princess, was the most disappointed. While the other foals had gotten used to Luna’s routine, he never grew tired of it. Hence, he decided to wait until it came close to midnight. The young colt sighed with disappointment as he was escorted back to Ponyville by Zecora.

"Come now my little friend. Is this how you want this night to end?" The Zebra asked in rhyme, feeling concerned for her young companion.

"I'm sorry Zecora. I was just really looking forward to seeing her again this year *sigh* maybe next year." Pipsqueak said in disappointment as he prepared to go home at the toll of the midnight bell. Suddenly, the wind began to pick up, blowing out all the lights in the town. Everypony gasped, wondering what was going on. Then an eerie voice began to echo all over.

"Prepare yourselves! The bells have tolled! Shelter your weak, your young and your old! Each of you will pay the final sum! CRY FOR MERCY! THE RECKONING HAS COME! AHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAA!"

Out of the sky, a black stallion appeared. His head was now a skull covered in green flames and his cape was torn at the edge, giving him a ghostly appearance. This was one ghost the foals new all too well.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!!" The children screamed in fright, running for cover as the ghost came swooping down on the town; throwing explosive pumpkins. None were more scared than Snips and his buddy Snails.

"IT'S THE HEADLESS HORSE!! HE'S FOUND HIS HEAD!!"

"AND HE'S TALKING IN RHYME!" The two unicorns shouted in terror before slamming into each other. Diamond Tiara kicked Silver Spoon out of her hiding place while Applejack and Rarity took their sisters behind a building to hide. The Headless Horse continued his relentless assault on the town.

"The sky is dark! The fire burns! You strive in vain, as fate’s wheel turns!" The fiend gave out another sinister rhyme as the ponies panicked, when, out of nowhere storm clouds formed over the town, dousing the fire with a quick down pour. As they departed, a royal carriage descended from the sky. Princess Luna had come!

"DEMON! You shall not harm these ponies! So sayeth Luna! Princess of the Night!" Luna shouted heroically, taking a stand as the ponies cheered her on.

"Princess!" Pipsqueak shouted to his friend as he ran over for a quick hug. Luna was more than happy to see the young colt. Their reunion, however, was cut short as she spotted the Headless Horse now descending upon them.

"Quickly pip! Hide!" Luna said quickly, shoving the colt behind her as he ran for cover. The princess looked at the ghostly figure before her. A scar laid above his heart where, no doubt, a sword or arrow had pierced him. This followed by the decayed state of his cape and body, showing that he has been dead for a long time. The flaming skull meant he was brought back by dark magic.

"Harken, cur! 'Tis you I spurn! Now feel THE BURN!!” Everypony gasped as Luna was suddenly blasted by a large green fireball.

"AHH HA HA HA HA HA! AHH HA HA HAAA!!" The horse guffawed in triumph just before the flames were instantly doused by Luna, who seemed rather unimpressed as she yawned out of boredom.

"Is that all you got?" The princess asked smugly.

"My flames have died! left not a spark! I will send you myself to the lifeless dark!!" This time the ghost summoned a sinister looking sword, covered with green fire, like his skull. In reaction, Luna materialized a scythe from her magic. The two wasted no time in exchanging blows and, with her past experience, Luna defeated the Headless Horse within seconds, as the foals came rushing out cheering.

"You were awesome princess!" Pipsqueak shouted as Luna smiled but then.

"Ha ha ha ha ha haaa!" The Headless Horse laughed as his skull was once again set ablaze frightening the children.

"So eager you are, for my blood to spill. Yet to vanquish me, tis my HEAD you must kill." The horseman said with confidence, before Luna bucked his skull right from its socket. It rolled on the ground, making the children burst into laughter.

"Thank you for the advice." Luna said, watching her foes head bounce around.

"GET OVER HERE YOU IDIOT!!" The head yelled out as its body stumbled around, falling into a water barrel before stumbling into the caramel apple stand. Making the children laugh even more.

"I'M OVER HERE YOU FOOL OF A BODY!!" Yelled the head in fury before getting kicked by its own body. Zecora handed Pipsqueak a large stick.

"What's this for Zecora?" Asked the young colt to his Zebra friend.

"Destroy the skull and douse the flame! Then the ghost will crawl back from whence he came!" Zecora told the children, as the adults handed them their own sticks. Seeing this, the head just sat there breaking in a sweat.

"Oh dear...."

"GET HIM!" Yelled Snails as the foals raced after it, chasing it through the town.

"AH! GET THEE AWAY!" Cried the head now hopping down the street.

BOINK! BOINK! BOINK!

"DESIST! FORSOOTH! GADZOOKS!!" The head cried out in a panic. Narrowly dodging a swing from one of the foals before making a tight turn into an alley way. Just then, a few loud smacks were heard as the foals rounded the corner to see a brown colt dressed in some kind of green tunic. It was Button Mash.

"Hey guys." The young colt said in a friendly tone while everypony stood there. Zecora came onto the scene with praise.

"The Headless Horse has been reduced to ash! Praise our hero. Button Mash!"

Button felt a little sheepish at the sound of his classmates cheering, he rubbed the back of his head with a pink blush on his cheeks. Just then Sweetie Belle burst through the crowd. Giving him a hug.

"Oh! hey Sweetie Be-MMPH?!?"

TOOOOT!!!!

Buttons face turned bright red as the unicorn filly kissed him square on the lips. A steam shot right out of his ears after this.

"My hero." Sweetie Belle said to her coltfriend, as he hit the ground. Completely dizzy from her smooch.

"hee! I love it when she does that." The lovestruck colt said in a warbled tone, seeing nothing but hearts spin around him. As the other foals giggled the Zebra reached under her cloak revealing a lantern lit by fireflies.

"Now that everything is fine and dandy. I present to you your prize." Zecora moved the light towards the smashed head revealing.

"CANDY!" The foals shouted in unison as they quickly filled their bags, and from behind Zecora the Headless Horse appeared again. Only this time with a regular head.

"Hey there little ones." Valiant said with a friendly smile. Next to the cape and plastic armor on his body, his face had been decorated with glowing green paint making it look like he was on fire.

"Wait...YOU were the headless horse?" Scootaloo asked her friend, as he proceeded to wipe off the paint.

"Yup. And as for the floating head? You can thank Discord." Valiant said as the Draconequis proofed out from nowhere. Bowing to the little foals. Soon it was time for the children to go home, while the adults packed up the games and food stands. Luna's night guard assisting.

"Thank you Valiant. It was splendid to see the children smile like that again." Luna hugged the unicorn with a joyful smile on her face. Valiant humbly bowed before the princess.

"It was my pleasure your majesty." Valiant replied as he helped her into the carriage. Just when they were about to depart, Luna quickly ordered her guards to stop after remembering the other reason she came to the festival.

"Is something wrong your highness?"

"Oh nothing serious. My sister and I were discussing your recent knighting ceremony and have come to the conclusion that you, like any knight, will need an apprentice of your own; A squire."

"A squire huh?" The idea intrigued Valiant as he placed a hoof to his chin. Giving the matter some thought while behind a nearby building, Button Mash and his friends, Rumble and Pipsqueak were listening in.

"Alright, I'll do it!" Valiant said before coming to a realization.

"But how do I chose?"

"You'll think of something." Luna assured her friend before giving the order to take off. That night, as the citizens of Ponyville laid sleeping, Grogar was hard at work. He was using his dark magic to summon more demons and commune with his master.

"These are my strongest demons Grogar. Fail me again, and there WILL be consequences!" The voice of a demon spoke through the dark portal, as Grogar bowed down on all fours.

"I will not fail master. I swear it."
