My Little Pony Champions of Justice

Moonshy laid there on the floor completely restless as the night began to set in. His day started off with helping one of Celestia’s new knights train his pupils, and now he was going into a battle. He hated fighting, he was an artist; A peaceful pony who tried to avoid conflict, but now tonight all of that was going to change. While the guards slept in the town hall, Twilight was at the top balcony of her castle overlooking the ruined town. A sigh of disappointment escaping her breath.

"You alright hon?"

"Oh. Hi Applejack."

Seeing one of her friends was enough to make her feel better. The country mare joined her as they both overlooked the town. What took years to build was brought to ruin in just a few moments. To make matters worse, their newest friend was going to face the creatures that caused this… and they wouldn't be there to help.

"You alright there sugarcube?" Applejack asked, seeing a worried look on Twilight’s face.

"It's Valiant....when he told us his plan he seemed excited...like he wanted this fight."

"Oh come on Twilight, that's crazy talk!"

"But Applejack, we barely know him! Despite the fact that he's been here for a little over a year, we know next to nothing about him! Who he is? Why he does what he does? NOTHING!!" A small tone of anger could be detected in the mare’s voice, since being unable to solve the unknown annoyed her. It also didn’t help that Valiant was keeping secrets from them. Sensing her frustration, Applejack simply placed a hoof on her shoulder and gave a friendly smile.

"I'm sure Valiant does what he does for a reason Twilight; and when the time is right he'll tell us." Applejack said with assurance. Being the element of honesty also came with being the voice of wisdom whenever her friends were in doubt. Her opinion was rewarded with a smile from Twilight, as both mares turned back to the town, silently wishing their friends the best of luck. One in particular for Twilight.

"Be safe Flash..."

Back at the town hall. Moonshy began to stir in his sleep. The cold sweat dripping down his forehead indicated that he was having a nightmare. When it became too much for him, he jolted up with a silent gasp. Thankfully the soldiers were fast asleep, or so it seemed. Valiant jerked him back down with his hoof, giving him a slight startle.

"GA-MMF!!"

"Shh..." Valiant silently scolded his friend as he pointed to a few shadows in the windows. Moonshy then noticed that all the guards were wide awake and were only making snoring sounds to help lure in the enemy.

They must've been awake for hours. He thought as each guard quietly readied their weapons. Others prepared to fire a few magic blasts as he began to sweat from the anxiety.

BLAM! SNARL!!

"AHHHH!!" Moonshy screamed in terror, causing most of the soldiers to spring onto all fours and lash out at the shadows. Others illuminated the room with their horns. The unicorns in the basement could hear every detail of the battle as the sound of snarling and clashing of steel echoed down below.

"SHIELDS UP! SHIELDS! UP!" Blueblood shouted after noticing a couple of the guards were wounded. Within moments, more and more fel hounds began to swarm into the room. Being the fastest, Flash grabbed a crossbow from an injured guardsman and began picking them off one by one from above, while Blueblood joined Valiant and a few earth pony guards in a counterattack. For a while the fight was in a stalemate, until one of the hounds gave a loud howl. Halting the attack.

"THEY'VE GIVEN UP!" One of the guards shouted as the men began to cheer. Valiant however was not convinced. He noticed they weren't heading back to the forest… but further into town. That's when it hit him.

"Oh no..."

"Valiant what is it?" Blueblood asked seeing the shocked look on his face.

"TO THE CASTLE! NOW!!" Valiant rushed ahead fearing the worst before Moonshy had also noticed the direction the beasts were heading.

"THEY'RE GOING FOR THE CASTLE!!"

Blueblood ordered half of the remaining guards to remain at the hall, while the rest rushed to the defense of the castle.

Twilight was out and about as the first glimpse of sunlight as it began to creep over the horizon. Breathing in the morning air, she hoped for the best as she prepared to take down the barrier.

"TWILIGHT!!" Valiant was calling out to her from a distance as he neared the barrier.

"Valiant?" Twilight was curious as to why he was in such a rush so early in the morning. Perhaps he's here to deliver a successful report on the battle she thought to herself before he was finally in range of hearing.

"GET BAACK!"

"What?-AAAAHHH!" A large demon bearing a huge axe came crashing onto the gate with the remaining fel hounds behind him. They swarmed the shield, draining it of its magic with their tentacles. The princess began to back away in fear, as the barrier slowly began to fade bit by bit until there was nothing standing between her and the massive swarm before her.

"Heh heh...Kill her!" The demon soldier ordered as several of the hounds surrounded Twilight. Her friends rushed in front of her.

"YOU WANT HER!? YOU GOTTA GO THROUGH US!" Rainbow Dash shouted, daring them to try and get close. The demon gave a smug grin as his pets moved in closer for the kill. But then… he felt a sudden chill overtake his body, followed by the feeling of cold steel in his chest.

"I won't let you hurt them..." Valiant growled as he jerked his blade out. That was when a certain… fury overtook him. He charged straight at the fel hounds, cutting them down to size. Soon more demon soldiers began swarming out of the shadows in hopes of overpowering the unicorn, but Valiant seemed to fight like he was possessed. Lashing out at all sides in a fury until only two of them were left.

"Yeah! Way to go Valiant!!" Rainbow Dash cheered, but he said nothing in response. Upon closer inspection the mares saw his eyes flaring with an anger they had never seen, almost as if they were on fire. The remaining demons began to tremble in fear after seeing their brethren butchered and by a pony no less!

"W-WE SURRENDER!! WE-GLK!!!" The first demons words were cut short as he looked down to see one of Valiant’s blades buried in his chest, shocking Twilight and her friends.

"VALIANT!?" Twilight stood there in disbelief as her friend turned his attention to the last demon, seeing his eyes beginning to glow with his anger.

"NO! PLEASE WE-AHHH!!"

"RRRRAAAGGGHHH!!" Valiant pounced on the last demon and began pounding his face into a bloody pulp, even as Flash and Blueblood arrived to try and stop him.

"VALIANT!!" Flash attempted to stop his friend’s assault, only to be shoved off as Valiant continued to pound the demon. It wasn’t until the demon’s face was swollen beyond all recognition before Blueblood used his magic to finally hold his now enraged friend in place.

"THAT'S ENOUGH! FOR CELESTIA'S SAKE! Calm yourself!!" Blueblood looked his friend in the eye as if to hit him. All was quiet until Valiant’s rage began to subside, the eerie glow in his eyes beginning to fade as he suddenly grew weary. Much to their relief, the demon was still alive but barely able to breathe. Despite his better nature, Blueblood ordered the demon to be taken into custody for interrogation.

"Uhh...."

"Valiant? Valiant can you hear me?" Twilight felt concerned after seeing what he had done. Valiant looked at the princess and could see the fright in her eyes; sinking his head in shame. Twilight only gave a quiet sob before she allowing Blueblood to release him.

Valiant sat there in tears as he looked at his hooves now stained with blood. He felt nothing but shame even as Twilight wrapped her arms around him, not being able to hold back her own tears.

"How touching..." A voice echoed from all around. Frantically, the ponies began looking everywhere for the source.

"Who's there!?" Flash looked around as he readied another shot from his crossbow. A laugh shot out from the shadows, as a pillar of green fire burst from the ground revealing a demon the likes of which they had never seen. His eyes were an eerie emerald green and his skin was as purple as Twilights, he was armored from top to bottom and had two massive horns which sat atop a frightful head. He stood on two cleft hooves, giving him the look of some powerful demonic force.

"It's been a while....Valiant charge." The demon told the unicorn as he looked up. His anger had been renewed.

"It's you.....Mal'Ganis!" Before they could say another word the demon disappeared in a flash of fire as the morning light illuminated the shadows.

"Valiant...who was that?" Twilight asked as her friend stood on his feet, wiping away the tears.

"We need to get back to Canterlot...war is coming."
