Chapter 1

It was a beautiful morning one day in the quaint little town of Ponyville. Every pony trotted along the square happily going about their duties and Twilight Sparkle of course, was merrily going through her daily studies. Merrily. That would not be the most accurate description of her feelings that day or any other day as she was being strangled by the many memories of when Equestria was in terrible danger. Nightmare Moon, Discord, Queen Chrysalis, and of course the Elements of Harmony. You see, the infamous villains weren't what Twilight was worried about but instead, she was baffled with the Elements. Why did the most powerful of them all, magic, decide to choose her above any other unicorn in Equestria? Why did it not choose Princess Celestia? This was very troubling to Twilight Sparkle because even twenty-four hours of continuous study on the Elements weren't enough to find the answer to this mysterious question. She couldn't even find the answer to this right. Feeling rather depressed, she decided to take a quick nap to calm her mind so that it could handle rigorous searching once more.

Whilst in her subconscious state, she dreamt about all the different events pertaining to the Elements of Harmony as she does every time while sleeping. However this time, it was a bit different. Twilight Sparkle stared at herself in the supernatural mirror encrusted with a fading gold frame bent to one side. What an odd looking mirror she thought to herself. Right after that was being pondered, the mirror burst into blue flames consuming the Twilight in the mirror's eyes and blinding Twilight Sparkle for a split-second. After the flash of brilliant light and ringing had stopped, Twilight Sparkle found herself in her small bed panting for air and sweating all over. Twilight was accustomed to the ever returning nightmares she got whenever she was asleep but this time there was something more. Something she had to tell the Princess. Not wasting another second of precious time, she ran downstairs and quickly grabbed the mess of books on the Elements of Harmony upon her desk and dashed towards the exit only to be stopped by complete void as she opened the door. She was still dreaming.

Fear started creeping into her heart as she desperately tried to wake herself up. She shut the door and opened it again countless times with little success in making the nothingness go away. Panicking, she rushed herself up the stairs again looking for Spike but all that was there on his bed was nothing. Neatly folded, pristine, and tucked in like no one had touched it for weeks. Spike never understood why Twilight Sparkle was acting this way because Twilight never really told him much about her internal conflicts. The only times Spike and her interacted these days were when Twilight needed him to bring her books because she was so engrossed in all the studying. A bit troublesome for Spike because he wanted to spend time with Twilight and didn't want her to look so unhealthy with her bloodshot eyes and sluggish movements. Nevertheless, Spike went on with his day as always; visiting Rarity from time to time and popping into Sugarcube Corner for some of Mrs. Cake's exquisite cupcakes. Twilight Sparkle stood there filled with paranoia and panic of what to do when suddenly a flash of light caught her reluctant eye. It was the same mirror that was licked to nothing by tongues of flame emanating from the mirror Twilight's eyes except this time there was no reflection when she peered into it's eerie demeanor. She stared at it for a few more seconds and that's when she heard the most hideous high-pitched giggle.

"Twilight, Twilight, Twilight Sparkle. What ever are you doing up so late?" The voice said in a mocking tone.

"Who's there? Show yourself!" Twilight screeched with her most powerful offensive spell at the ready.

"Don't you remember me? I thought we just met a few weeks ago." The voice giggled once more showing a flash of glittery bug-like wings across the mirror along with a set of two great big ugly emerald eyes.

"Chrysalis? What are you doing here? What's going on?" The violet mare demanded.

"Oh Twilight. I'm here to give you all the answers to your curious questions." She said with a lingering pause.

"To set you free!" Queen Chrysalis jumped out of the evil mirror slamming Twilight Sparkle against the wall and possessing the terrified little pony with her dark magic.

Then, everything turned to darkness.
