Chapter 4: a little overreaction...Prologue chapter 1:The Ponyville Librarychapter 1:The Ponyville Library The sun peaked over the horizon on a brand new day. Twilight looked through the window and smiled. As she walked through the hallways of her castle she remembered something; this was the day the new Ponyville library was supposed to open its doors! Ever since her home at the last library was destroyed after defeating Tirek she had been unable to find a quiet place to read her books. That is, except her castle which she never wanted to be inside. This was a new chance for her to get in some good reading. She wasn’t the only one excited either. It had been the talk of the town since the building had started construction. She was sure the library would be flooded with ponies later trying to get a good quiet time after a hard day’s work. She was determined to get in early when the library was empty. She walked into the kitchen and was bombarded by a delicious sent. “What is that wonderful smell?” she asked. Pinkie came hopping out with a huge pile of pancakes that looked like they were all going to fall at any point. There was blueberry, raspberry, banana, mango, very berry, plain, and just about anything else you can think of. “Hi Twi,” she said. “Pinkie? What are you doing here?” asked Twilight. “Why wouldn’t we be here?” asked Pinkie. “After all it is the grand opening of the library and…” Pinkie kept rambling on about seemingly nothing when the rest of the Mane Six came around, surprising Twilight. “What are you all doing here?” asked Twilight. “We had this planed for some time, Sugar Cube. We thought it would be a good surprise to celebrate your new home,” said Applejack. “Well alright then,” said Twilight, nervousness evident in her voice. “We should start eating,” she said taking a happier tone. Pinkie served out the massive pile of pancakes to everypony. “I should probably leave a note for spike,” Twilight thought as she dug into her pancakes happily. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Twilight, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie all stood outside of the library. It looked like an old shack that was about to fall at any minute. The windows were blacked out and the rest of the wooden building looked like it had been in decay for years. The words “The New Ponyville Library” were posted on the ceiling. “Where did the others go?” asked Twilight as she realized Rainbowdash, Applejack, and Rarity weren’t there. Pinkie, who had been happily jumping around said “Well… Rainbow had an emergency meeting with the whether team, Rarity had an important order to fill for a wealthy costumer, and Applejack had work back on the farm to do. Any other questions?” “No, not that I can think of,” replied Twilight. “Okey dokie lokie” said Pinkie. The three ponies walked inside. The inside was rather dark, but that was to be expected with the windows blacked out. The only light source was a small light hanging from the roof. The trio looked around. There was what also looked to be a librarians desk, bot nopony else was to be seen in the room. Pinkie’s mane started to sag, losing its puffiness. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this place,” whispered Fluttershy, but nopony heard her. They heard a loud bang coming from the other side of the room. Two unicorns seemed to emerge from under the desk. One was black with a white mane, the other white with a black mane. Their eyes seemed to search the three standing in front of them. Fluttershy hid behind her mane. Pinkie‘s mane got back its puffiness with the new arrivals. “Pink Earth pony. Pink mane,” said one of the unicorns, a monotone in her voice. “Yellow Pegasus. Pink mane. Shy,” said the other, also monotone. Both unicorns’ eyes fell on twilight. Their eyes seemed to bug out of their head. “Purple alicorn. Princess.” They both said in unison, losing both their monotones. They both bowed their heads. Twilight blushed. “Where are all the books?” she asked, taking another look around the room. “Please follow us” they said. As the group moved around the table, a trap door came into sight. The unicorn opened the door and walked in followed by Pinkie, Twilight and Fluttershy. A white light seemed to envelop the unicorns and Twilight's horns as they walked through the ground. “Sorry for any inconvenience princess, but that magic prevents any magic from working inside the library,” said the unicorns. “It’s alright,” said Twilight. “and if you would like, you can call me Twilight. You are Ponyville ponies now.” “Hi Twilight” said the black unicorn. “My name is Midnight Pedal and my sister here is Moonlight Dream.” They both gave off little smirks at hearing the name. “Nice to meet you,” said Pinkie. After all introductions were over they reached a well lit room. It was huge! The shelves of books reached for what seemed like miles. Each shelf reached a ceiling 25 feet above them. And long enough to reach the other side of the room, a good quarter of a mile away. Lights on the floor seemed to point the way to something important. “Follow the lights on the floor to get to the librarian. Have fun in the library and ask the librarian any questions you may have,” said Midnight. The three ponies went to check out the extent of the books. Midnight and Moonlight went to see the librarian, Shadow Wing. “The target is in the building.” The twins informed Shadow. “Good,” he said. “It’s time for the first stage.” chapter 2: spyingTwilight found some books she was interested in and went to go meet the librarian moonlight and midnight told her about. She followed the lights lining the ground and made her way to Shadow Wing, the librarian. When Shadow Wing spotted her, he bowed a little, smiling. “Welcome Princess. I was informed you had entered the library,” he said. “May I assume you found something that interested you?” “I did,” said Twilight. “And I’m positive I will be back again.” “Very good princess,” said Shadow. ‘Your friends just left. I did enjoy the pink one. Pinkie Pie, was it?” Shadow giggled a little at what he saw of pinkies antics. Twilight smiled before looking at the clock on the wall. Getting a bit of a frantic look on her face she said “Well, it is getting late. I’d better get going. May I check these books out?” as she put a pile of books down large enough to tower above anypony. “Of course, princess.” said Shadow ass he pulled up the account he had made earlier for her, “let’s just check all these books out first.” He started to take books out of the large pile and swipe them into the commuter under her name. He stopped at a few more suspicious books to give her some curious looks. The books ranged in weirdness from: “How To get a Dragon Laid” or “The Singing Sailing Train” to just some cooking books. “Well… Have fun. I guess…” Shadow said when he finally finished the pile of books, but the “Have fun was the only audible thing he said. Twilight smiled nervously before leaving with her new books. Shadow sighed and leaned back on his chair. “So that’s Twilight,” Shadow thought. “I guess that explains the twin’s reactions to the name.” Twilight once again entered the light of day. She started her journey home as Celestia lowered her sun for Luna's moon. Meanwhile, not far off some twins watched her every movement. On the way home, Twilight met up with Spike. “Hi Twi,” said Spike eyeing the huge pile of books," did you remember everything?” “Everything we talked about and more,” she said. Let’s go home.” A little bit away Midnight and Moonlight were listening to the conversation. “Is that a dragon?” asked midnight. “No, it’s a lizard,” said moonlight sarcastically, giving her sister a blank look. “I guess I’m just wondering why there would be a dragon talking to the princess,” said midnight. “How am I supposed to know?” asked moonlight. “Shadow didn’t even know who she was before this assignment. I don’t know how we were supposed to know about that dragon?” Midnight shrugged. “They’re on the move. Let’s get going.” The twins followed Twilight until twilight entered her castle. They walked up to the side and listened into the conversation going on inside. “Spike, did you already make dinner?” asked twilight. “No,” responded spike, “ do you want me to? “I will,” offered twilight. “You need to go take a bath.” Twilights nose shriveled up a she caught a bit of spikes odor. “Alright,” said spike as he ran off into another room. Twilight turned and picked up some pots in her magic. As she started cooking, the twins started to walk away. “Well… that was a pointless conversation to listen to,” said midnight. Moonlight just stayed silent. Spike was on her mind. Why would the princess of friendship keep a dragon nearby? The twins entered the library. They walked through the door in the back of the librarian’s desk. Shadow Wing was on the couch, sleeping, when they entered. The twins walked into the kitchen to find a note waiting for them pinned on the oven. Dear girls, Dinner is in the microwave. Please wake me wake me when you are done eating. I want to hear about what you found out. Also, there is a letter from Luna attached. You might want to read it. There is some information you may want to know. Shadow The Twins flipped the paper over to find Luna’s letter glued on to the back. Midnight pulled out the casserole from the oven and while Moonlight served it out, midnight read: There are some topics you will need to know. First of all, be careful around Twilights friends. If you must take them out, feel free. Just be Shure to eliminate Twilight. Second, be especially careful to not alert anyone. They can use the Elements of Harmony. This is their ultimate weapon that they used to turn discord to stone. There is, however, a big venerability in the elements. If the bearers are not all there and have their elements on, they cannot be used. Luna P.S. Moonlight, Twilight keeps a dragon named Spike around. Don’t worry about him. He isn’t at all like the dragon you encountered all those years ago. “Well… this may be harder than we thought,” said Midnight. “Diner is ready to eat.” “Alright… let’s eat,” said Moonlight. “But I still don’t trust that dragon. He looks to familiar." They sat down to eat. They had barely finished before a loud noise came from above them. A grumble from the other room told them that Shadow was awake and not very happy. They then heard a huge crash coming from above them. Author's Note SPOILERS Coming up next: Gore and our first side story. Interlude: Moonlights fear part 12 Years ago The mountain was getting close. The heat was getting overwhelming. As Midnight and Moonlight reached the peak they found the entrance. They looked inside the gaping hole to see a giant purple dragon. The smoke was billowing from the sleeping dragon’s nostrils. The dragon was lying on a giant pile of gems. The two sisters circled around the dragon, trying to make a minimal amount of sound on the gem pile. Midnight saw the target. She started to go in and try to take it. As she reached out, she lost her balance and fell down the giant pile of gems. The egg she had been trying to get fell with her. She lunged for the egg just too suddenly feel her head throbbing and see red clouding her vision. Moonlight stumbled backward as the dragon stirred. She saw her sister just before the dragon brought a heavy tail right onto her sister’s head. Her sister stumbled a little bit before falling down, blood streaming from a giant cut on her head. The dragon lifted her tail back up. Blood was now dripping off it onto the ground. The dragon sleepily scooped up her egg and but it back under her, falling back asleep. Moonlight, who now had a clear vision of her sister, felt nauseous looking at her. The blood from the cut was flowing out, staining her white coat. There was a pool of blood spilling onto the ground below her. Moonlight walked around to where the dragon had put her egg. She reached out to grab it but was interrupted by the dragon flinching. Realizing that the dragon was still asleep, Moonlight kept going in for the egg. She grabbed the egg and slowly backed down the pile of gems. Once Moonlight was down, she went to Midnight. Looking at her made her feel sick. The previously white coat was now drenched in red. Her eyes were bloodshot, the pupils were barely visible. The cut on her head was oozing blood into a thick pool of blood, coating some of the gems around her. Moonlight tried to slow the blood by tying a bandanna tightly around it. Moonlight tossed her limp sister onto her back, and scooped up the egg with a hoof. Midnight gave a small nicker as she hit her sisters back. This woke up the dragon. Moonlight immediately realized this and she ran outside, the noise of the woken and angry dragon behind her. She slid down the mountain as fast as she could, the dragon in hot pursuit. A trail of blood was being left behind them. Moonlights horn lit up as she teleported away. She landed at the edge of the nearby town, Ponyville. It was nearly midnight. Moonlight walked in town she passed the buildings of the sleeping town, looking for a hospital, doctor or anything. Now in a full trot, Moonlight raced across town. Panic was evident in her expression. The hoarse breathing of her sister was getting worse. After a few minutes of searching she found a building with a red cross and the words “Ponyville Hospital” across the top. She raced in, looking for anypony that might be staying late. She rang the bell at the counter multiple times. “OH, this had better be good this late at night.” came a lethargic voice. “Help! Quick!” yelled Moonlight, her voice hoarse. A white mare with the lightest pink mane came from the back. Her yes widened at the sight of Midnights bloody form. Midnights breathing had almost stopped and the bandanna was now soaked with blood. “Come to the back. Now,” Said the mare, her voice frantic. Author's Note The first chapter in a side series about Midnights and Moonlights past. Also, follow if you like gore. There will be a lot. chapter 3: rebuilding the library. chapter 3: rebuilding the library. As the confused unicorns looked out the top of the library and looked around, they realized something was missing. “Where is the building?” asked Moonlight. “Maybe the wooden remains all around us,” said Midnight, looking over at her sister. A look that said “duh” was on her face. While they looked around at once was once the above-ground part of their house they found some fillies looking at them with nervous looks on their faces. The unicorns horns lit up. Black and white magic picked up the fillies and forced them to come closer. “Where are your mothers?” asked Moonlight. The fillies had a terrified look on their faces and started to stumble on their own words. “No answer? I guess we should take them to Shadow,” said Midnight. “Sounds good to me,” said Moonlight. The fillies were taken down into the library. They struggled on their magical bonds the whole way down. “Who are your parents?” asked Moonlight again. One of the fillies spoke. “My father is Filthy Rich and you had better put me down right now or…” Her muzzle snapped closed in the white magic. “And your parents are?” said Midnight, getting close to the second filly’s face. “I don’t really have any,” she whimpered. The unicorns smiled and let down the fillies. The unicorns walked to the back. “Follow us,” they said. The fillies did so, a confused look on their faces. “Who woke me up,” asked an angered voice from the back. “Just some fillies,” said the unicorns. “We assumed you would like to have a chat with them. They are right here.” “Send them in,” said Shadow, now in a kinder voice. The fillies filled in. “What are your names?” asked Shadow. “If you must know my name is Diamond Tiara, and this is Silver Spoon,” said Diamond. “Well,” said Shadow, taken aback and a little bit of anger getting in his voice. “We have an attitude now, don’t we?” “Let us go home or I will tell my father about you,” said Diamond. “You do know my father, right?” She asked in a mocking tone. “Filthy Rich, the billionaire? How could you possibly use him to threaten me? You were, after all, the ones responsible for destroying the brand new library.” Shadow remarked. “And, by the sounds of it, ponies have started to notice the missing building.” Shure enough, the sound of more and more of a crowd was coming through the building. “Now leave,” said Shadow, getting stern tone to his voice. For emphasis he took a knife and cut his own leg with it. The blood immediately started to run down, pooling on the floor. Silver Spoon ran out of the room at this, dragging a protesting Diamond with her. When they went outside, there was no way to escape the crowd. Filthy came out of the crowd to pick up the fillies, a disappointed look on his face, and left. Midnight came out of the door in the ground. “Don’t worry everypony. The library will not be closed because of this. We will be taking volunteers to rebuild the top floor of the building immediately.” At the mention of a new building being built, an orange mare with three apples as a cutie mark came forward. “We’ll be willing to help ya out,” she said. “The name’s Applejack and you’re in luck! The whole Apple family is in town, down at ma farm. We’ll have it fixed in a jiffy.” “Thank you Applejack. Would you like to come in and talk specifics?” asked Midnight. “Sure thing. Let’s go.” They went down into the library. The now familiar white light came around and shut off Midnights magic. “What in tarnation was that?” asked Applejack. Midnight explained to Applejack about the light as they made their way into the library and then into the back. They saw Shadow cleaning up his leg and Moonlight making some lunch as they walked in. “Welcome to our little house in the library,” said Midnight. “Let me introduce you to the small family here.” After all introductions were out of the way and lunch was served, Applejack asked Shadow “You alright there partner, you got a…” “I’m fine,” snapped Shadow. “Alright,” said Applejack, a worried look in her face. “What about we talk business?” she asked, turning to Midnight. “If you can take care of the payments, we will be able to do the construction.” “Sounds good,” said Midnight, nodding. “Let’s get the library fixed.” Applejack returned to the library with the rest of her huge family. There were Apple’s there from all over Equestria. The introduction process that followed was long and not very interesting. “Well… now that’s done,” said Applejack. “Let’s start on this building.” “Sounds good to me,” said Moonlight, grabbing up some wood with her magic. “Let’s get started.” The majority of the walls were up by midday. There were a few splitters and cuts, but nothing too serious. Midnight and Moonlight had gotten back to work early to get some more work done with the house. The two ponies looked up when they heard something creaking. Applejack seemed to notice something was wrong because she came running up to the mares. “What the hay is goin’ on here?” asked Applejack. “How are we supposed to know? The building just started creaking,” said Midnight The building started creaking more and a large piece of it fell. The three ponies tried to jump out of the way, but the top of the wall fell on Applejack. Blood immediately erupted from her mouth and nose. It sprayed all over Midnight and Moonlight. Her spine was crushed under the weight, killing her instantly. Moonlight turned around and lifted the structure off of Applejack with her magic. A crowd formed around the crushed and bloodied form that was Applejack. Ponies were coming from all directions to join the crowd. The various ponies were crying, dumbstruck, or panicking. Twilight came forward out of the crowd and picked up her friend. Her eyes had a small sparkle as she looked down at her bloodied friend. Her horn lit up, sending magical sparks everywhere. Sweat started to form on Twilights forehead. Then a voice came. “What the hay?” Author's Note Sorry this part took so long. I just finished finals. Also, I realized I never mentioned my oc's cutie mark. shadow's is an open book with pages flying out of it like birds. the twin's have half books with the same colors as the opposite twin. I just couldn't find a way to put it into the story. Chapter 4: a little overreaction...Everypony looked at the Twilight when her horn started to light up. Surprised looks shot cross the crowd as Applejack woke out and whispered “What the hay?” Twilight looked around and stared to pant. Midnight and Moonlight looked at each other with confused looks on their faces. “Was that reviving magic?” asked Moonlight, astonished. “Only Star Swirl, the legendary unicorn that can do that!” “Why do you think I learned it?” asked Twilight. “It is the rarest form of magic, after all.” She made a big toothy smile at that. Moonlight just gawked at Applejack after that. She was speechless. Applejack stood up in the pool of her own blood. She almost immediately collapsed again. The blood splashed a little as her body hit the ground. Twilight came and picked her back up. “Why the buck can’t I stand?” asked Applejack. “It’s a side effect,” said Twilight. “It will wear off in a week or so.” “Wait,” said Applejack, “Side effect to what?” “I’ll explain later. We ought to be going,” said Twilight, Turning to the twins. She put the bloody form of Applejack on her back. “Oh, right,” she said, her horn glowing a little bit. The pool of blood vanished and the wound fixed itself. The wood was lifted off her and fixed up, making the fallen part of the building ready to be put back up. Twilight glanced back at the twins, an apologetic look in her eyes. Twilight left with Applejack. The crowd separated as Twilight made her way through. The crowd stared to disperse at this point. The twins looked at each other, exchanging worried glances. They headed down into the library and went into the back. They saw Shadow sleeping peacefully in the bedroom. It was getting late. The moon had risen about a half hour ago. They decided to tell him what they saw in the morning. Moonlight stifled a yawn. In the morning, Shadow woke up to a rumble in the kitchen. He dragged himself out of bed, groaning at the light that had bombarded his eyes. He stood up and arched his back, stretching. His back cracked a few times in the process. He walked lazily into the kitchen. Midnight was there, making some eggs. She turned around when she heard Shadow came in. “Morning sleepyhead. Moonlight is in the shower right now,” Midnight informed Shadow. “You’re up next.” Shadow just grunted in response. “Also, when you are awake, we need to inform you of what you missed last night.” Another grunt. Moonlight stepped into the kitchen. She had a smile on her face. “Hay sleepyhead. Somepony’s grumpy this morning.” Shadow pushed past her and made his way to the coffee machine. He got his coffee and sleepily asked “So, what DID I miss last night?” “Oh, just the fact that we made an attempt at Applejack’s life, which failed because Twilight can use reviving magic. Nothing too big,” retorted Midnight sarcastically. Shadow spat out his coffee, the anger growing on his face. He put sown in his coffee and sprang at Midnight, grabbing her horn and neck and pinning her agenized the wall behind her. Fear grew into her face as she started gasping for air, her horn flaring with failing magic. “WHAT DID YOU DO? YOU MADE AN ATTEMPT AT HER LIFE? WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?????” “They don’t know,” wheezed Midnight. Moonlight ran to her sister’s side and immediately started to describe what had happened the previous night. Shadow calmed down and let Midnight down, who immediately fell to the ground, gasping for air. “I’m sorry, but you know how much I fear being discovered,” said Shadow apologetically. When he noticed that Moonlight was giving her sister a steady stream of magic, growing more and more worried, he started to get worried. “What did I do?” he asked. “Call the hospital,” said Midnight, “NOW!!!” Shadow ran to the phone and seemed to have the hospital on the phone before he picked it up. Thank Celestia the hospital was always ready for calls. Applejack awoke in her house and looked around the room. There was some soup nearby. It was still steaming. She picked it up and started carefully sipping it. She tried to remember the event that took place the night before. She remembered eating at the construction site. She remembered building some more afterward. She remembered a pain going throughout her body. What had happened after that was beyond her. She looked out of her window. All seemed normal on her farm. Her little sister was playing with her friends, her dog chewing on some stick he inexplicably got, and her brother, Big Mac, was working in the apple orchard. She widened her eyes. What time was it? She looked at Celestia’s sun. It was nearly noon. The only other time she got up after the sun rose, she was sick with a fever. She felt fine now. “I’ll just go down and ask granny smith what had happened last night,” she thought to herself. She stood up and staggered. She fell onto the ground she felt like she had the balance of a foal. She scooted over to the wall and scaled her way along the wall until she was standing. She moved along the wall outside of her room with the help of the wall. When she got to the stairs, she had to let go of the wall and lacked onto the railing as quick as possible. She almost fell onto the stairs in the process. She gave a sigh of relief. She made it down the stairs and looked into the kitchen. To her relief, Granny Smith was in her rocking chair. Applejack got onto her stomach and crawled to her. When she got there she realized something slightly disappointing. Granny Smith was sleeping. She sighed and made her way to the nearest chair and climbed up. The chair fell onto the ground and right on top of her. Author's Note I know this has taken awhile. I've also been working on starting another story. If there is anything you want to know, just ask. thank you for your patience. PrologueA voice came through the hall of the Canterlot castle. “You called your majesty?” “Why yes, Shadow Wing. I did,” said Luna. “What is it you want me to do?” asked Shadow. “Ponyville just lost its library,” said Luna. “I think it needs a new one.” A smirk spread across Shadow’s face. “I understand your majesty. Would you like me to go alone?” “Not this time. Take the twins with you. And don’t let anyone see you.” ordered Luna. “Yes your majesty. I will get them right away.” “Good. I will send you my orders when you get there. ” “Yes, your majesty,” said shadow. As he flew away he thought: “The twins? Oh, this IS going to be good. She only pulls them out for the bigger jobs.” _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In their living quarters, Midnight Pedal and Moonlight Dream heard a knocking on the door. “I’ll get it” said Midnight. “One second!” she yelled. She went to go open the door. “Who is it?” asked Moonlight, coming from around the corner. “It’s only Shadow Wing,” said Midnight. “What so you want, you bat?” she asked, turning to Shadow. “I’ve got orders from Luna. She needs a library.” Moonlight walked up, interest evident in her face. “So, do we have a name yet?” “No, not yet,” replied Shadow. “We will get a name when we get to our post in Ponyville.” Moonlight and Midnight both got smirks on their faces. “This will be fun, wont it?” they said in unison. “I assume so,” said Shadow. “Well, we’ll have plenty of time to talk when we get there. We don’t want to make Luna wait too long. The three left and made their way to Ponyville. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As they arrived to their destination, there was not a light in the sky. Shadow opened the door. He found a note on what he supposed would be the front desk of the new library. It read: I can see you found your new home. This library had been under construction ever since the old Ponyville library was destroyed. I’m sure you are wondering where you will be staying during your time. If you go behind the desk, you will find a door. This will lead to the main library. There is a magical barrier when you enter that will make it so Shadow will look like a normal Pegasus and prevents magic from being used in the library. Inside, you will find a desk, you will find your new home and a place you can secretly take out your target, Twilight Sparkle. “Twilight is our target,” Shadow said with a dejected tone in his voice. “Well” started moonlight, smirking. “This is the most interesting job yet.” Author's Note Hello everypony. this is the first thing I'm publishing so if you see anything wrong grammatically, spelling, etc. please let me know. this story may get some more tabs in the future, which may include tragedy or sadness. chapter 1:The Ponyville Librarychapter 1:The Ponyville Library The sun peaked over the horizon on a brand new day. “It’s time for the first stage.”
chapter 2: spyingTwilight found some books she was interested in and went to go meet the librarian moonlight and midnight told her about.
