A short week in Canterlot, a long time together

"Wow, AJ.  This suite is HUGE and amazing!  Totally worthy of us, right?"  Rainbow shouted as she flew around the suite in their luxury hotel.  "I can't believe the Princesses hooked us up with this place, the girls are gonna be so jealous."

"Now, Rainbow Dash, ya know it isn't nice ta tease other ponies, especially our friends.  Ya come down here and pay the nice pony for carrying up our stuff."

Rainbow turned and flew to the bellhop and tossed him three bits before checking out the view from the window.  "Three bits?  Thanks, ladies," he forced a smile.  Applejack reached into her travel pouch and gave him a few extra.

Applejack opened her wings again hesitantly.  "Ya know, why don't we just walk there?  We'll see more sights that way," Suggested Applejack.  Rainbow gave a dismissive look and Applejack sighed.  With a couple controlled flaps she was in the air, she took her time and followed Rainbow out the Pegasi window out into the skies of Canterlot.  The view was astonishing as the full spectrum of the sun setting coated the western sky in an angle she had never seen as she glided beside Rainbow.

The door closed behind them and the Princesses’ were at a large granite table with two seats opposite them.  With a light yellow glow the giant throne looking chairs slid back, allowing enough space for the two to take a seat.

Pinkie was setting up the Bakery when a letter appeard in front of her in a burst of yellow light.  “Oh!  A letter, from who?”  She opened it and read it intently as Mrs. Cake walked into the kitchen.

“Yeah, AJ.  I’m kinda glad we stayed an extra couple days in the castle.  That hotel was too fancy.  And there’s always something to do in the castle,” Rainbow smiled as she stretched her wings, “I got into a race last night with a Pegasus lieutenant, I won big time, but he was really close a couple times.”

“Yeah, and I got a recipe from the baker on a new kinda pie crust Ah can’t wait to try!  Let’s git to the train and get home, I can’t keep all this excitement inside.”

They grabbed their suitcases and galloped to the door where royal guards were ready to help them to the station.  “G’bye y’all!” Applejack yelled to the random ponies at the station as they pulled away.

“Rainbow, ya excited to get back to home on the farm?”

“Yeah, I also have to talk with the ponies I work with and pick up a few shifts to be a team player.  Once a member of the flock, always a member, they say.”

“Yeah.  I think we should just relax, this’ gonna be a long trip and we have to talk when we get home,” Applejack said as she leaned back on the chair and let Rainbow lay on her lap.

“Okay, AJ.  We’ve got a few things to talk about before we get to bed.”

They both smiled and relaxed as they watched the scenery pass.

“Next stop, Ponyville.  Get your bags!” the conductor called over the intercom.  Rainbow and Applejack sat up and gathered their bags.  The blinds were all pulled on the car for some reason but they didn’t care.  They were home, Applejack adjusted her hat and they went to the door waiting for the train to stop.

The doors opened and standing before them wasn’t the train platform but dozens of ponies from town holding a banner that read, “MARRY ME, RAINBOW DASH?”

Rainbow felt her heart skip as she looked on the proud ponies, she stumbled out of the car and fell head over hooves landing on her haunches stunned.  Applejack gulped and walked down to Rainbow and lowered herself to her rear knees and gasped.

In the sky behind the train, written in clouds.  “MERRY ME, AJ!”

Both were stunned and overwhelmed beyond belief as they looked on at the sights.  They looked to each other and started trembling as their emotions took over, and they both pulled boxes from their saddle bags adorned with royal gems.  Opening them they presented each other with silver hoof rings and asked the question at the same time. “Will you marry me?”

“YES!”

They embraced each other tightly as the town cheered and stomped, their first kiss in front of the whole town as an engaged couple was more magical than they ever imagined.
