They Call Her the Princess of Death
Chapter 1: They Call Her The Angel of Death
A bright light pierced through the darkness. My eyes, which had been adjusted to the darkness already, burned. The pain was somewhat comforting. I’d learned, over the long years of my life, that pain was the only thing telling me that I was still alive.
“Now,” a commanding voice growled. No… it was more gentle than a growl… almost like… a strict purr. I could tell by his voice that he held some form of authority… but who was he? Why was I here? “Tell me… what happened in your past? What led you to join the military?” Oh… an interrogation? But why? What right had he to question me?
I glared up at him fiercely, not bothering to hide the rage in my eyes. He glared right back, then sighed and backed off a little.
“Please,” he coaxed after taking a deep breath. I sighed as well. Should I tell him? It’s not like it was that big of a secret anyways… and who would it hurt, really? He couldn’t hold anything against me.
“I was left alone when I was younger and the military found me and took me in.” I informed him. The stallion stood up a little straighter and sighed.
“Can you please be a little more elaborate?” he inquired. I couldn’t help but feel slightly guilty. It was obvious that he was really trying…
“Fine.” I gave in. “If you really need to know… my past… then I’ll tell you. But, why, may I ask, is this information required? And, if I might, may I be allowed to know your name?”
“Why don’t we make a deal?” he suggested, taking a few steps closer to me. “For every question of mine you answer, I’ll answer one of yours. Tell me the rest of your backstory, then I’ll tell you my name”
“That isn’t very fair.” I protested. “I’ve already answered one of yours.”
“Briefly, but it didn’t help very much. I’m going to need you to elaborate.”
“I’m going to need you to tell me your name so that I am aware who I’m trusting with this information.” I insisted stubbornly. It wasn’t an unfair request.
“Fine.” he growled, aggravated. “My name is Cyan Light. Now elaborate.” Fine. A deal was a deal. Wait a second… did he just say… his name was Cyan Light? As in THE Cyan Light? As in the general? There was no way! I must’ve misheard him…
“Sorry, what did you say your name was?” I asked, laughing nervously. He didn’t look very happy with the question.
“I said my name was Cyan Light.” the stallion repeated flatly. It took all I had not to squeal in excitement. General Light was my idol and had been for years. Sure, I’d never met him personally, but does anyone really meet their idols before they become fans? No! Not usually. Everything I’d heard about him practically made him a legend! And here he was… right in front of me!
‘Alright, Flutter, get it together. You don’t want to look like a drooling fangirl in front of him, do you? You’ll seem like a complete joke! Knock it off! Snap out of it!” I scolded myself in my mind. I took a deep breath and glared at him to keep from freaking out.
“Alright then. Keep in mind, please, that this isn’t exactly a short story.” I commented. “When I was younger, I was a big tom-boy. I was the very opposite of feminine. I had a father… well… a father figure anyways. His name was Roger Night. He taught me practically everything I know. In fact, thanks to him, I am the best sniper in my squad. But, anyways, one day, Roger took me aside and told me that it was time I knew the truth.” I paused here to take a deep breath, then continued. “One night, he and his men were returning to base and they came across a small bundle on the ground. When they approached it, they found that it was a child. His men quarrelled and tried to figure out what to do with the child. Eventually, Roger got sick of it and said, ‘If none of you will take the child, then give her to me. I’ll take care of her.’ And that was that. He took me in and treated me no different than he would if I’d been his biological child.” I wasn’t exactly sure what else to tell him. There wasn’t really anything more to tell him… But I couldn’t help but wonder… why had he been so concerned about my backstory? There was an awkward silence for a few minutes and then General Light stood up straight and sighed.
“I see,” he said softly. “Thank you for your cooperation.” There was an awkward silence for a moment.
“Um…” I coughed, “am I allowed to leave now?” General Light sighed and gave a curt nod.
“Yes. You’re dismissed.” he informed me, walking away. He stopped in the doorway and turned his head back to look at me. “By the way… how would you like to be in the Pony team six?” I froze and then, after a minute, laughed nervously.
“Sorry, sorry, what was that?” I asked him. General Light turned away, but not before I saw his smirk.
“You heard me. Think it over for a few days.” he suggested, walking out of the room.
“Oh. Okay…” I said to myself, standing up and exiting the room as well. Had that really happened? It was just a wee bit much for me to take in. No. No way. I’d been dreaming. There was no way I’d just met General Cyan Light… There was no way he’d asked me to be on the Pony team 6... I turned around to check, just in case, to see him walking away. His smirk flashed in my mind and the memory of his words came back, as if he were right there, saying them again.
“You heard me.”
“Oh my gosh it actually happened!” I squealed. It was a lot louder than I’d hoped and I looked around nervously, worried that someone had heard me. I scampered off before anyone could notice me.
