Prologue

My name is Volcano Blast. My parents called me that because of my fur and mane. I have a red coat and a black mane/tail. My name in no way connects with my talent of writing, unless I write ‘explosive’ things. I’m a unicorn so I can use magic, and I’ve taught myself some fire magic. I used to live with my parents in an obscure location that none of you have ever heard of until they decided to move me to Ponyville. So this is my story about my life in Ponyville. I learn about friendship, love and all that junk. I hope you all enjoy reading this as I did writing it and living it.

Chapter 1: Ponyville Bound

“Next stop: Ponyville!” the conductor called out through the trains intercom.

The message woke me up from my slumber; it had been a long train ride. I was glad it was almost over, I had been on this train for hours. My parents decided that I should move to Ponyville, they said it was a nice place full of nice ponies. I liked living with them in the middle of nowhere. I didn’t have to socialise with anypony. I think they just wanted the best for me though, I wasn’t going to meet anypony and have a family living with them. Also, they realised that I would have a better chance of having any of my stories published if I lived somewhere populated.

“Would you like something to eat or drink sir?” asked an attendant walking past.

“Uh, no,” I replied awkwardly. “How long until we arrive in Ponyville?”

“There’s still about an hour to go sir,” the attendant replied politely.

“Thank you,” I muttered in an unintelligible tone.

I was very bad at talking to ponies being that I have only ever spoken to my parents. I felt really weird talking to other ponies. I wasn’t used to using manners either, my parents never enforced them until they started preparing me to move. They tried teaching me a lot of social skills but I guess I never had any real practical use for the things they taught me until now. I was supposed to meet somepony named Twilight Sparkle at the train station for a tour of the town and to show me my residence. I was unsure of how my parents had these connections. They themselves have never been to Ponyville. We used to live in Canterlot when I was a foal though.

To pass the time I decided to continue my story I was working on. I used my magic to pull my pen and pad out of my luggage. It was a horror story about a haunted castle in the middle of nowhere. I didn’t think it was my best work but I was convinced I would finish it. I had tons of unfinished stories, I was very inconsistent. Using my magic I held my pen, writing down things that came to mind. Normally I block a lot but on the train I was just oozing out story. I was an incredibly messy writer, but I’m the only one who reads my stories anyway.

After an hour of nearly solid writing, the train stopped. The train had finally arrived.

“We are now in Ponyville!” came through the intercom.

It was finally time for me to start my new life in Ponyville. To actually make friends with other ponies.

Chapter 2: Humble Beginnings

I stepped off the train and the sun was shining. It was about 2:00pm and it was quite warm. The fresh air felt good after being couped up in that train for hours. I picked up my luggage and looked around. There were ponies everywhere, some arriving and reuniting with their families. Some leaving to take the train to where ever it was heading next.

The amount of ponies around made me nervous, I had never been around this many ponies before. I couldn’t recognise any pony as the Twilight Sparkle character that I was supposed to meet. Then again, I had forgotten the description I had been given at that point. I decided that I would try moving away from the crowd to gain my bearings. Before I could though I heard a voice calling out my name.

“Volcano Blast?” the pony called out walking towards me. She was a purpley coloured unicorn with a blue and pink mane. I wondered if my parents organised that I meet up with her because she was a unicorn like me.

“Are you Volcano Blast?” asked the mare.

“Um, yes I am,” I said, sounding a bit nervous.

“Great, I’m Twilight Sparkle, but you can call me Twilight,” explained Twilight, putting out her hoof.

I must have really looked like an idiot at that point. I just stared at her hoof like an idiot. I had no idea about the gesture of shaking hoofs.

She looked at me and lowered her hoof. “Ok…” she trailed off. “Follow me Volcano. Is it ok if a call you Volcano?”

“Sure…” I said, avoiding eye contact.

“Let’s go!” Twilight said, sounding exited. I picked up my luggage using my magic and began to follow her.

“Do you want to see where you staying first or do you want to go on the tour first?” Twilight asked as I trailed behind her.

“Whatever you think is best,” I replied faintly.

“I’ll show you were your staying first so you can drop off you luggage,” Twilight decided. She stopped and waited for me to walk besides her. “It’s probably better if you walk besides me, so I don’t lose you.”

I decided to listen to her and walk besides her.

There was an awkward silence between us for a little bit, as I was unsure of anything to say.

“I know what it’s like to move from somewhere else to come here,” Twilight said, breaking the silence. “I’m from Canterlot, but in Canterlot I had no friends. Princess Celestia sent me here to learn about love and friendship.”

“You know Princess Celesita?” I said shocked, with actual tone in my voice.

“Yea, I’m her number one student,” Twilight responded with a smile.

I was extremely shocked. “That must be feel honoured.”

In my house there were three main thing taught to me. Never speak out of turn, never intrude on peoples lives and Princess Celestia is the single greatest pony in all of Equestria.

“It is a great honour, you may be able to meet the princess sometime,” Twilight explained.

“Meet… the Princess?” My eyes sparkled thinking about the honour of meeting the Ruler of all of Equestria.

“And her sister Luna,” Twilight continued.

“Nightmare Moon?” I panicked.

“She’s not Nightmare Moon any more, she’s just Luna,” Twilight explained.

“Oh…” I sighed in relief.

Twilight and I then reached a construction site. She suddenly stopped walking and I decided to stop to.

“Oh…” Twilight sounded as if something went wrong. “Stay here, I’ll be back in a moment.”

I watched Twilight walk over to the foreman’s office. She walked in for a few minutes but then came out and joined me again.

“I’m sorry Volcano, but you residence hasn’t been built yet,” Twilight remorsefully announced.

“Oh… ok…” I wasn’t really sure what was going to happen to me. Where would I live?

“You can come stay with me,” Twilight offered, smiling.

“Oh… I don’t want you to go out of your way or anything…” I said, looking down.

“I insist, it’s not like you have anywhere else to go,” Twilight stated. “There’s room for you.”

I accepted her offer and followed her to her place of residence.

“Here it is,” said Twilight, as we approached a big tree.

“You live in a tree?” I asked.

“It’s also a library, come on in,” Twilight opened the door with her magic and I followed her in.

I looked around the library, shelves filled with books. It reminded me of my library back at home.

“Is living in a library not disruptive for you?” I asked looking around. “Having Ponies come at possibly inconvenient times, disturbing your privacy.”

“Actually,” Twilight began. “I don’t get many ponies in the library.”

I was shocked by that idea, I assumed that the library would be bustling with ponies looking for a good book to read.

“Huh…” I was still wondering why ponies don’t frequent the library.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

“I’ll get it,” said Twilight.

I looked over at the door and saw Twilight talking to a pink mare.

“Volcano!” Twilight called to me.

I walked over to her. “Yes?”

“This is Pinkie Pie,” Twilight explained.

“Hi there!” said that Pink mare, sounding very excited. “I am so very pleased to meet you Mr. Volcano Blast. Hopefully you’ll have a Blast here in Ponyville!”

Pinkie Pie was amused by her clever pun and started laughing.

“Pinkie has a surprise for you,” Twilight looked to me.

“It will be ever so much fun!” Pinkie started bouncing around. “There will be… well, I’m not allowed to tell you. But it will be fun. Super duper fun.”

“It’s at a cake shop called sugar cube corner,” Twilight explained. “I’ll give you the tour of town later.”

“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!” Pinkie yelled, bouncing around still.

So I set off with Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie towards my surprise.
