In April of 2017, a man in the remote mountains of Nepal was seen by drone surveillance with a being so different that it could be only explained…as a Pony. Since then, these beings have been living amongst us, entire government programs have been created to keep track of them, entire religions have been torn asunder, scientists have had to re-write their books and open new fields of study…and hate crimes against the newest addition to our planet have tripled in the years since the images were discovered.

Nobody knows what really happened…except for me. All I know is, one man entered The Portal. The Ponies that followed him back out of it changed the world. This is his story.

PROLOGUE

First comes the light. The shimmer of a wall, and promises of a better future through friendship. And then, a man’s voice, tired with age.

“Yes,” he says. “I’ve been to The Wall. I’ve been through it. I’ve been to Equestria.”

He chuckled and shook his head. “It isn’t so special to most people anymore, but I went there. In fact, I was the first human to set foot on their soil. First human to breathe their air.”

Then, the light was gone. The spectrum of what lay beyond it nothing but a memory. The digital noise of the tablet’s video recorder replacing it. He looks up. Worry lines and creases deepened where his brows have been furrowed one too many times over a long and difficult life. His grey eyes, once blue, were glistening in the glow of the organic lighting.

“I…I started something that I couldn’t undo. I am responsible for everything that’s happened. Everything. I may have saved them. But in doing so…I destroyed us.”
