Sweetie Belle was tired.
Very tired.
She groaned and dragged her hooves along the carpeted the floor of her home, her pink and purple curls bouncing with ease. It was empty, something she wasn’t used to. Scootaloo was usually home.
Her roommate and mare-friend was away with Rainbow Dash in Cloudsdale for 2 weeks. She had left last week, leaving just 5 more days until her return.
Sweetie sighed and walked to the kitchen to grab a coffee, she still had a lot of work to do before bed. She glanced inside and looked at her mug, but an object on the counter caught her eye.
A small box of cupcakes was placed delicately on the counter of her kitchen, a small pink note on the box.
‘Hiya Sweetie!
Hope you don’t mind that I made you some cupcakes, I mean who wouldn’t like some cupcakes? Anyway, if you need me just come over to Sugarcube Corner! It’s lonely without Dashie, I can only imagine how it feels without Scootaloo. Well, the Cakes are fun and all, but it’s really lonely without Dashie making jokes and helping me with my party plans.
Oh yeah! Rarity also told me to tell you that she was gonna come over tomorrow and help you get your new dress fitted for your show in 3 weeks! That should be fun!
The second Dashie and Scootaloo get back we can throw the biggest most amazing welcome home party ever!!!
Your Friend,
Pinkie Pie’
Sweetie giggled and grabbed a cupcake in her magic delicately, making sure not to bump it into the others in the box. This would fix her grumbling stomach. She quickly unraveled the green scarf around her neck and set it on a nearby chair, before grabbing her glasses and putting them on.
“Paperwork time I guess.” She mumbled to herself, her cupcake floating beside her.
She just realized that the cupcake was orange, with purple frosting and a tiny scooter put on the top. She smiled at the detail of the cupcake, Pinkie obviously took her time. She walked quickly back to the box, and realized that the cupcakes were based off of both her and Scootaloo.
Her cupcake was white with pink and purple frosting, a little bell on the top. She smiled with glee, planning to thank Pinkie as soon as possible.
Thank Pinkie.
She looked back at her paperwork and checked the date it was due. It wasn’t due for another week, but it was a lot of work.
Well, she could always pull an all-nighter.
She grabbed the laptop she kept on her desk and carried it into the kitchen, pulling out supplies to make cookies for Pinkie. She picked up some blue and pink dye, preparing to make some thank you gifts for the pink party pony.
She pulled up a recipe for cookies, luckily she had gotten much better at cooking over the years. She couldn’t make much, but she was pretty good at cookies, thanks in part to Pinkie herself giving her some lessons.
She looked at the small skype icon near the bottom of her screen, contemplating checking to see if Scootaloo was online. She clicked the icon and opened the app, as it bounced up and down. Seconds seemed to turn to minutes. It finally stopped bouncing and she checked Scootaloo’s status.
She was online.
She smiled with a small blush and clicked video call. The little beeps toned out on the air for what felt like forever as Sweetie Belle started to make the cookies.
Finally Scootaloo picked up.
“Sweetie!” Her raspy voice was like music to Sweetie Belle’s ears.
“Hey Scoots~” She smiled as she took a bite of her cupcake.
Scootaloo giggled happily, her purple mane flopping in her dark purple eyes. She covered her mouth with a hoof, “Is that a me cupcake?”
Sweetie nodded with a knowing grin, “Courtesy of Pinkie.”
“Of course.” Scootaloo rolled her eyes, smirking all the while.
Sweetie smiled and continued to stir the cookies, and Scootaloo turned around as a door clicked softly in her hotel room.
A familiar blue pegasus trotted into the camera’s view, her rainbow mane pulled back into a small ponytail, and her forehead covered in sweat. She still had her uniform on, her usual blue flight suit with yellow accents, and her signature goggles draping from her neck. Scootaloo smiled at her and laughed.
“Oh hey Dash! Sweetie’s on the computer.” Scootaloo motioned for Rainbow Dash to look at the screen, to which the pegasus obliged.
Rainbow Dash looked at the screen wearily and waved at Sweetie Belle, “Hey Sweetie. How are you?”
“Good. You Dash?” Sweetie Belle smiled to her, Rainbow looked exhausted. She glanced at the bags under her eyes, something she had never seen from Dash.
“Awesome, as usual.” She kept up her usual swagger, smirking through her exhaustion. She glanced at Sweetie’s cupcake, a knowing smile on her lips. “That Pink’s?”
“Yep.” Sweetie nodded with embarrassment, wondering if the camera could see the ones that looked like her.
“Knew it!” She nudged Scootaloo happily as she walked to her bed, “Nopony bakes like her, huh?”
“Yeah.” Both Scoots and Sweetie responded, the pair giggling at Dash’s tired voice.
“Well, this pony needs her shut eye, night Sweetie.” She flopped down on her bed, waving her hoof in a salute, before pulling the ponytail out of her mane. Her rainbow locks fell against her neck, sticking with sweat. “I’m gonna shower first tomorrow, okay squirt?”
Scootaloo pinned her ears in embarrassment from the nickname she had outgrown long ago. “Sure Dash. Goodnight.”
“Night.” Dash’s head hit the pillow, and she seemed to instantly drift off. Soon the room was filled with loud snores and stifled giggles from the couple.
Minutes turned to hours as Celestia’s sun dipped deeper and deeper, soon away from sight, as Luna’s moon crept higher, making way for the night. Sweetie Belle continued to make cookies, talking endlessly with Scootaloo about random topics, the carrotdogs in Cloudsdale, Sweetie Belle’s newest song, the Wonderbolt’s newest gossip topics, crazy managers, concerts coming soon. The topics changed rapidly and seemed to make no sense, but just hearing each other’s voices was good enough for the pair.
“Whatcha baking?” Scootaloo finally asked after what seemed like days.
Sweetie looked up as she put the cookies in the oven carefully, “Some thank you gifts for Pinkie!”
“Sweet!” Scoots giggled as she blushed. She leaned on her hoof and sighed. “Damn, I didn’t realize how much I missed talking to you.”
Sweetie blushed and giggled, “Me neither I suppose.”
Scootaloo glanced back at Dash, who was still fast asleep. Scootaloo picked up the computer slowly and started to walk to a different room in her suite. She plopped down on her soft bed and set the computer far away so that Sweetie could see her room.
“Nice room, huh?” Scootaloo motioned to the area for emphasis, as Sweetie clapped, rolling her eyes with her same smile on her lips.
“Yeah! You get your own bed?” Sweetie learned long ago not to question Scootaloo’s ego, her mare-friend seemed to need constant praise to live, something that she found quite amusing.
“Yeah, the room is usually for 4 ponies, but Spitfire and Fleetfoot rented extra rooms last minute, so only two ponies per room now.” She giggled, and glanced to the side, seeing a bag she had set there the day before. She grabbed a music CD with a small signature on it. “Oh, remember how I said Dash and I went to see Sapphire Shores yesterday?”
Sweetie inspected the CD through the screen. Her green eyes widening as she recognized the hoof-writing. “That can’t be what I think it is...”
Scootaloo smirked and bowed with a laugh, “Yes yes, you can praise me later.”
Sweetie smiled so much that it hurt her cheeks, “Oh my Celestia! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!” She tried her best to hug the laptop but it ended up with her almost dropping it.
“And that’s not all~” She pulled out two tickets to a Sapphire Shores show and two backstage passes, her face blushing slightly as she smiled at Sweetie.
Sweetie Belle almost fainted, she wobbled on her legs and blushed brightly. She couldn’t believe it! Many thoughts rushed through her head as she tried to decide what to say in response. She blurted out the first words she could think of.
“Get back to Ponyville right now so I can kiss you!”
Scootaloo chuckled and blew a kiss to the screen. “Just 5 more days, Sweets~”
She sighed blissfully, just 5 days. She looked around for a moment before grabbing the computer in her magic. “Just a sec.” She moved the laptop to their bedroom, and set it down carefully on their bed. She soon sat down as well, giggling all the while. “There, now I can see you better.”
Scootaloo smirked. “So what have you and Pinkie been holding up?”
She rolled her eyes with a shrug and glanced back to her mare-friend.
“Okay I suppose. Pinkie’s been staying in Sugarcube Corner most of the time, saying that if Dashie messages her and she’s not there to see it that she’ll break up with her. Or something like that.” Scootaloo giggled at the comment, knowing all too well what Sweetie Belle meant. “What? She was talking too fast.”
Scootaloo chuckled, fluttering her wings, “Sounds like Pinkie alright.” She looked at the ceiling and gasped a little, “What about AB? You talk to her lately?”
Sweetie Belle tapped her chin in thought. She had talked to Apple Bloom recently but she couldn’t remember when…
“Oh yeah, last Thursday!” That was it! “We has lunch. It was quite pleasant.” She laughed and covered her mouth, “She said she missed you and that we should all have lunch when you got back, and Spike got all mad.” She couldn’t hold back her laughter, “He thought that Bloom had a crush on you!”
Scootaloo burst out in laughter that she couldn’t contain, “He… He what?!” She almost fell off the bed, pounding the sheets in hilarity, completely awestruck by the comment.
“Yeah! He seriously thought that! Dragon greed you know?” She waved a hoof and continued, “We had to try so hard to convince him it wasn’t true, it was hilarious! Bloom had to get him a Sapphire cupcake from Pinkie to get him to stop giving her the silent treatment, I could barely stop laughing!”
Scootaloo chuckled and smirked, “Well no one can resist me~” Sweetie rolled her eyes, “Oh shut up. I know you can’t resist me.”
“Well that’s because we’re dating, dork.”
Scootaloo stuck her tongue out. “Hey you were talking about a new song?”
“Oh yeah, my manager is having me sing some Disney songs.”
“Oh cool! Sing one for me~”
Sweetie rolled her eyes, “Okay, which one?”
“Anyone you want.”
Sweetie Belle thought about it for a long while before choosing one that she was quite proud of.
She took a deep breath and began to sing,
“Is this home?
Is this where I should learn to be happy?
I never dreamed a home could be so dark and cold~
I was told
Everyday in my childhood:
Even when we grow old
‘Home is where the heart is’
Never were words so true…
My heart’s far far away~
Home is too”
Sweetie smiled as she finished the verse.
“You like it?”
Scootaloo was agape and blushing profusely, still not quite used to Sweetie’s amazing voice.
“That was amazing. Absolutely beautiful.” She smiled, “Nothing I wouldn’t expect from the best singer in Equestria.”
She rolled her eyes, “Scoots I have a long way to go. You know that.”
“If you do, then I don’t know if the world is ready for such perfection.”
“You flatter.” She waved a hoof with a slight blush.
“Can you sing another one?” Scootaloo questioned, her voice high and blissful.
Sweetie Belle thought about it, she wasn’t so good at the other Disney songs she was learning. But there was that one song…
No, she had to save that for when Scootaloo got back.
“Sorry, all out.”
Scootaloo laughed, “Okay~” She yawned, trying to force her eyes open, small bags starting to form under her eyes.
“Scoot you look exhausted, go to sleep.” Sweetie Belle smiled, batting her eyelashes to convince her.
“No I’m…” Her body betrayed her and yawned anyway, “Okay, I’m really sleepy.”
“Go to bed.” Sweetie’s tone almost sounded like begging.
“But I want to talk to you~”
Sweetie Belle smiled in embarrassment, “We can talk tomorrow. You have training early in the morning right?”
Scootaloo looked at the sheets and frowned, “Yeah…”
“Go to bed, please.”
Scootaloo pouted, but Sweetie didn’t budge.
She rolled her eyes, “Okay, okay I’ll go to bed.”
“Thank you.”
“I love you, Sweetie.”
“I love you too Scootaloo~”
“Night.”
“Goodnight.”
Sweetie hung up the call.
The oven beeped as if on queue, and Sweetie Belle trotted downstairs to the kitchen slowly to decorate the colorful treats.
Just 5 more days.
