It’s time to get ready for school!" My mom Fairy called from downstairs, in which case, I rolled over and out of bed. I stretched my wings and shook some loose feathers out from them, watching them fly around. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, letting out a yawn, and I got out of my half-asleep daze. "Alright mom," I called, sleepily. I started to preen my wings carefully, and after I finished that, I walked into my bathroom. I took a quick look at myself and started to brush my pink mane and tail. My lilac-colored fur was extremely fluffy today. To finish getting ready I made my bed and walked down the stairs. My mom smiled at me as I sat down to eat my hay cakes with sunflowers she prepared for me. I chewed quietly as I watched my brother: he was starting eighth grade today. I hoped this year was better for him than last year. "Hey Gears, are you excited for your first day of the eighth grade?" I asked him. He looked up and gave me a small smile. "Yeah sis, can you fly me to school? Everypony thinks it's so cool that my sister flies me to school," he said. I snorted a little and nodded my head. "As long as she's not late for school," my stepdad Bullwhip said, smiling. I finished eating and ran upstairs to brush my teeth; which I then I grabbed my bag and shut my door behind me. "You ready Gears?" I asked. He nodded and hopped onto my back. "Hold on," I said as I flew out the kitchen window gracefully. I liked that my parents had their house built on the side of a mountain; a little ways out of Ponyville; it really made the nights beautiful at my house, especially with the moonlight and the stars shining. I also liked that they were nice enough to add a stairway for my friends that didn’t have wings. It may be a small town, but I loved it, all of my friends were here. Soon, I saw his school come into view and I landed softly. As I trotted forward a bit, I saw Big Mac, Applejack, Rarity and Rainbow Dash. Gears jumped off my back and ran towards Applebloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, who were also near the group, cheering his name. "Scootaloo!" Gears called a name; the first among his group of friends. He hugged her tightly. I smiled at my brother just then, as I knew he liked Scootaloo. I hoped they might start dating in high school next year. Rainbow Dash ruffled Scootaloo's mane a bit and started walking to school with Applejack. I saw Rarity wave goodbye to her little sister Sweetie Belle before she headed off as well. I also saw Big Mac talking to Applebloom about something; I couldn’t make out what. But she looked rather sad. "Hey Gears how was your summer?" Scootaloo asked, smiling a bit sweetly at him. "It was great, other than me and Button Mash getting into trouble," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Hey now it's not like I meant for it to happen," Button laughed. Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle burst out laughing as well. "Of course you two did," she said. I waved goodbye to my brother and Scootaloo. I noticed Big Mac walking towards me. I started to get nervous; I've never talked to him. I also figured out just how tall he is, I felt extremely tiny in front of Big Mac. I wasn't sure how to act around him so I started to back up a little; he gave me a weird look. I stopped trying to back away from him. “Howdy Bubblegum I have a question for you," he asked. I took a deep breath, trying to quell my nervousness. "What is it Big Mac?" I said, giving him a small smile. "Um Applebloom wants to come over to hang out after school with your little brother Gears" Big Mac said smiling. "That should be okay," I said, smiling at him. Inside I was glad he didn't want to go out with me, I want me and him to become friends. "Okay, well, I'll walk with her to your house, see you in study hall," he said and started his walk to school. “Bubblegum will you walk with us?” my best friend since we were little Pacific Striker yelled I nodded and ran to join them. “Hey fillies” I said, smiling at Pacific, Roxy and Star. “How was your guy’s summer vacay?” I asked, fluttering my wings a little. I looked ahead and saw a very different pony; he was very broad, dark brown body with darker brown plates along his neck, back and on his front and back legs. He had bright coral and blue hair. Along with a matching necklace with a shell on it, he didn’t look very happy. ‘Hmm, I wonder what's wrong with him?’ I thought to myself. I kept walking with my friends for a while, listening to their conversations about their summer. I nodded here and there to show them that I was somewhat listening. “Hey fillies I’ll see you at school I’m going to talk to him” I smiled to my friends. They waved at me as I trotted over to him. I started walking beside him and I heard a low growl come out of his mouth. It caught me off guard, I usually wasn't shown such hostility unless it was from Rainbow Dash. “What the hell do you want?” He snarled. I was taken aback from his attitude. I'm not used to other ponies being mean; I didn't even know how to react. I sighed as I started to walk forward, why was he being so mean to me? Was he used to other ponies being mean or rude to him? 'I don't know why, but this is really bothering me' I thought to myself. (Fossil's POV) I looked up to see her walking ahead of me, she had a very hurt look on her face as I saw tears forming in her bright yellow eyes. I sighed; I shouldn't have snapped at her, I was just used to being ignored. And usually when ponies talk to me, it’s to make fun of me. I trotted ahead to walk beside her, she let her head hang down. I stopped in front of her and she bumped into me. I felt horrible for the fact I snapped at a pony trying to be nice to me. I wasn't quite sure what I should do, I took a deep breath. “Hey, ” I said slowly. She turned her head away from me, I hated that I hurt her so bad. But why did I feel so bad? I put my hoof under her chin and lifted her head up so she could look at me, I brushed her tears away. She blushed, looking away from me. “I’m really sorry; I’m not used to other ponies actually talking to me,” I said quietly. She sniffled and gave me a small smile. “My name is Fossil, I’m a rare type of pony known as a-“ “Dinopony” she interrupted me, I smiled at her and nodded. She looked down at my necklace. “Oh my that’s so beautiful, ” she said as she went to touch it. I moved away from her and he let her hoof fall to the ground with a light thud. I winced at the look on her face, I shouldn't have moved so fast. I took another deep breath, why was I so nervous talking to her? "Sorry it's from my dad, I don't let anyone touch it," I said quietly, she nodded in understanding. “Freak” I heard from behind me, it was a cyan mare with rainbow hair. Her friends had walked ahead. Thank god they weren’t joining her. “So Bubblegum Splash is this freak your new friend?” She taunted. I heard Bubblegum sigh, great now I’m never going to get to know her. Why was I so worried about that? “Actually Rainbow Dash yes, he is my new friend. I would appreciate it if you didn’t call him a freak just because he looks different.” She said, I smiled I actually made a new friend on the first day of school. I smiled at her and she gave me a small one in return. “Whatever,” I heard Rainbow Dash scoff at her. "Rainbow Dash I really would appreciate if you didn't call him names, " she said to Rainbow Dash quietly. Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. "Fine, Bubblegum, I’ll be nice," she said as she flapped her wings to fly ahead of her. (Bubblegum's POV) I gave Fossil a small smile after Rainbow Dash left. “Sorry about that, I don’t know why she has to bully people.” I said seeing my group of friends. I smiled at Fossil again “C’mon, come meet my friends,” I said as we ran to my group, we still had quite a bit of time before school. “Bubblegum!” Firecracker exclaimed as she hugged me tightly, I laughed as her multi colored hair got all in my face. “Hey filly, how are you?” I asked, she was looking at Fossil. “It was good actually really good, Nightlight and I had a good summer, partied a lot” she smiled. I just nodded again. “Good, I didn’t do much” I laughed. I smiled when I found my group of closest friends. “I’ll see you in homeroom Firecracker” I waved. I trotted over to my group. Pacific Striker and Falling star were nuzzling and Falling Star was giving her little kisses here and there, Star made gagging noises. I tried to stifle a laugh at the noises she was making. “Please make it stop don’t you too do that enough out of school? Ugh, I think I'm going to be sick from all of this affection” Star exclaimed. I laughed a bit and smiled back at her. I looked at Roxy and Onyx Colors talking, Onyx had his wings wrapped around her, and they really were cute together. "Um, no, we're not going to stop it. I thoroughly enjoy it" Pacific said to Star. Falling Star nodded in agreement. "Ugh, seriously another year of you two being attached at the lips, bleh" Star said dramatically. I burst out laughing, couldn't help it. I finally regained my composure and decided it was a good time to introduce Fossil to my new friends. “Hey guys this is my new friend Fossil. He’s new here to Ponyville” I smiled. Pacific, Roxy and Star came over to look at him. “Well Bubblegum he’s different. But you're good with different, welcome to our group, this is just some of us” Pacific laughed. “Hey guys, do you know where Wave beats is?” I asked as I looked around for my boyfriend. Pacific shrugged. “Probably with Skeet, Flash, Gold Inferno and Patches” Star said, looking at the basketball court, I looked over to see Skeet, Wave Beats and Patches skateboarding. I smiled as I walked over there with Fossil; I wanted him to meet all of my friends. “Who’s this?” Wave asked, giving me a kiss on the cheek and looking at Fossil. I hoped Wave Beats wasn't going to try and start shit. “Hey, this is my new friend Fossil, and I wanted him to meet my group of friends.” I said smiling. Patches trotted over and looked at him. “Oh my god his hair is awesome, I’m so jealous” he said smiling, I laughed a little. Skeet came over and was checking him out also. “Hmm, I don’t know I haven’t heard good things about dinoponies” he said quietly. I glared at him as he gave me his signature smirk and went off to skate board again along with Wave beats and Patches. “They’ll warm up to you I know it,” I said as we walked over to my other group of friends. “Okay Fossil you already met Firecracker, this is Nightlight, Blizzard Mocha, Neon Stars and Astromeda” I smiled. Fossil waved to them, they all smiled at him and of course Neon Stars had to freak out about the hair. “Oh my god your hair is amazing, I love it,” she exclaimed. I laughed a little as I felt someone bump into me really hard. ‘Great it’s Raining’ I thought to myself. “Ew watch where you’re going,” she said to me, I rolled my eyes as I turned my back on her. “Well fillies I’ll see some of you in homeroom” I smiled as I walked into the school with Fossil. I took him to the office so he could get his class schedule and his locker number; I took him to his locker which was by mine. I smiled at him as I put my backpack away and grabbed a notebook for homeroom. “Can I see your schedule?” I asked he nodded and handed it to me; I looked over it and smiled to myself. Fossil and I had all the same classes together. We walked to homeroom and sat at the table in the back, Pacific Striker, Star Fall, Roxy, Onyx Colors, Firecracker and Nightlight joined us at the table. I watched as Flash, Gold Inferno, Skeet, Patches and Wave Beats walk into the room and sat at a different table. I sighed, I felt that Wave and I were drifting apart every day and especially over the summer. I just really didn't like it. Fossil looked at me with a worried expression on his face. “Are you okay?” He asked quietly, I shook my head, feeling the burn of tears prick at my eyes. I turned to look at him as I lay my head on his shoulder. He laid his head on my head, I blushed. “Come to my house after school and I’ll tell you what’s bugging me,” I said quietly, he nodded silently. I didn't do much in home room, luckily for me all my classes went by in a blur. I was so happy when lunch time came around; I trotted along happily with my group of close friends and their boyfriends. Mine for some reason wasn’t walking with me; I just ignored it and smiled at Fossil. We got our lunch and went to sit at our regular table. Fossil sat next to me and then Pacific sat next to me, Falling star sat next to her and Roxy and Onyx sat across from me. Star sat next to Onyx and sighed as she watched a unicorn/crystal pony look for a place to sit. “He’s so gorgeous,” she said. I looked at the pony she was talking about he was a white unicorn with purple and blue hair; he had some parts of the crystal on his legs that were blue and purple. “Ask him to sit here” I smiled. She just nodded. “Hey Prism come sit with us” Star said, waving he smiled and made his way over to us. “Hey guys” Prism smiled at Star causing him to blush a little. I smirked at Star as she blushed at him too, I picked at my strawberry apple salad. “You okay” Fossil whispered, I shrugged. He nodded and left it at that. After I finished my lunch I sat and talked with my friends. I had study hall next with Fossil, Astromeda, Star Fall, Nightlight and some of the seniors. I sat with Fossil, and Astromeda sat next to me. Falling Star and Nightlight across from us, I started doing my homework for Math, History and English. Fossil started working on homework as well, Astro and Falling Star starting talking about what to do after school. Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Twilight were talking about going on a fly after school. Big Mac tapped his pencil against the table a few times before looking back to look at me. I gave him a small smile in return; I looked back down at my homework. I laid my head down after I finished my homework, Fossil smiled at me as he finished his homework. Big Mac got up from his table and walked over to my table, I wondered why he was starting to talk to me now, he was a senior, I was a sophomore. I really didn't get it. "Hey Bubblegum are you going to walk with me after school to pick up Applebloom?" he smiled, I nodded at him giving him a small smile in return. “Miss Splash, Big Mac, there's no talking in study hall” the teacher said loudly. I sighed to myself; I don't know why the teacher always had to give me a hard time. “But we're not even being that loud" I said quietly, Big Mac rubbed the back of his neck and made his way back over to his table. “Find something else to do,” he said as he looked back down at his papers he was grading. “Rude” I said under my breath. I started to scribble in my notebook; I opened my backpack and grabbed a piece of gum. I blew a bubble and enjoyed the taste. I let out a sigh of relief when the bell rang for 6th period. “Finally” I said to myself as Fossil and I walked to 6th period art class. I smiled when I sat next to Prism. “Hey, so I have a question” I said smiling. “What’s up?” He smiled back. “Well, I have a feeling you like my friend Star” I said as I started to draw my favorite part of my first day back at school. I looked up to see him blushing. “Yeah, I like your friend Star I don’t see many Ponies now a days that love to read” he said smiling. “Yeah, she’s one of a kind if you two do end up dating at all you take good care of her, she’s been hurt a few times and I don’t want it to happen again” I said putting my pencil away as I grabbed the colored pencils. He nodded and gave me a soft smile. My last class went by in a blur, I put my backpack away in my locker and said goodbye to Pacific Striker, Roxy and Star. I stood outside and waited for Fossil and Big Mac. I saw him talking with Applejack. "Howdy Bubblegum mind if I join you guys in your walk?" Applejack smiled. "Sure, I don't mind, we have to stop by Fossil's house, he's hanging out with me after school" I said. "Is that okay Fossil?" I asked. “Yeah, that's alright, it's always better walking with a group,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck, I nudged him and fluttered my wings a little. “It’s alright, oh by the way I have to pick my brother up from his school before we go to my house. And Applebloom is coming over so Big Mac and Applejack here are walking with us” I smiled. He just nodded. “It’s okay, but I have to tell my mom where I’m going to be” he said back. We started our walk to his house, I kept rubbing sides with Fossil every now and then, it made him blush as he turned away from me to hide his face. He nuzzled his face against mine, my cheeks started to burn as I turned away as well. ‘Why am I doing it? I’m with Wave he would hate to see me doing this’ I thought to myself. We finally made it to his house and I waited outside for him. "So are you and Fossil dating?" Applejack asked me smiling. I shook my head, but I blushed a bit. "No, but I do really like him," I said smiling. "Well, that's good, least you are happy. I've heard that you and Wave beats haven't been doing too well" Applejack finished. I nodded, looking down at the ground, kicking at a little rock. I didn't noticed that Fossil had come back outside “Ready?” he asked me smiling. I just nodded. We continued our walk to my brothers school, I saw him talking with Button Mash. “Gears did you and Button Mash stay out of trouble today?” I smirked. "I stayed out of trouble, Button Mash on the other hand did not" my brother said laughing. Big Mac and Applejack went into the school to find Apple Bloom. “This is my friend Fossil, he’s coming over today. Applebloom is as well. Button Mash are you coming to our house too?” I asked. My brother smiled as he and Button Mash nodded. They waited for Applebloom, I saw her come running out and walking ahead of Fossil, Big Mac, Appljack and I. I couldn't help but smile at my brother’s two closest friends. "Are you guys coming over as well?" I asked Big Mac and Applejack. "I would but I have a ton of chores to do" Big Mac said looking down at the ground. "Me too. I could come hang out with you tomorrow" Applejack smiled. I just nodded. I watched Applebloom, Gears and Button Mash running up the stairs. "Slow down!" I yelled at them, all I could hear was their laughing, I shook my head and waved goodbye to Applejack and Big Mac. I could hear more laughing and looked up to see Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle flying around. I waved at them and Fossil and I started making our way up the stairs. “Sissy you slow poke” my brother laughed as he swung on the swing with Applebloom and Button Mash. I smiled at him as I walked over to my parents. “Hey honey, how was your first day of school?” My mom asked, hugging me, I nodded and smiled at her and my step dad. My mom was taking care of her flowers, she loved them. “It went well, got to catch up with all of my friends, mom, Bullwhip this is my new friend Fossil. Is it okay if he hangs out with me today? And can he stay for dinner?” I asked with a pleading look on my face. My mom smiled. “Of course, honey, it’s nice to meet you Fossil, I haven’t met a dinopony in a long time. I went to school with one her name was Hibiscus” my mom said to Fossil. “That’s my mom!” Fossil said smiling. My mom looked surprised. “Oh my I’m going to have to visit her tomorrow” she smiled. I nudged Fossil and we started walking towards my house, we walked into the bright open kitchen, I chewed on a piece of apple as we walked up the stairs, I walked down the hallway to my room. I opened the door and let Fossil in and then shut the door. I turned on my tv and started to clean up my room a little bit, after I was done cleaning I sat on my bed to relax, I looked at Fossil. “Fossil you can sit on the bed with me, I don’t mind,” I said, blushing a little, Fossil nodded and made his way over to me. I smiled as I nuzzled against him. I didn't know what it was but for some reason I felt like I was supposed to be with him, it's like my heart was trying to tell me something. “Bubblegum don’t you have a boyfriend?” He asked quietly. I sighed and nodded. “Yeah, but he hasn't talked to me much, we didn't talk to me all summer” I said, feeling the sting of tears in my eyes. I shook my head and looked up at Fossil who was sitting in front of me now leaning forward staring at me intently. I blushed as I looked away, why am I so nervous? I felt him start tickling me; I started laughing as we were rolling around on my bed, I was laughing so hard I was crying. I wasn't used to it, it was nice. I hadn't heard Fossil laugh and it was nice to see him happy as well. I felt him stand up above me; I looked up at him and suddenly felt small. He leaned his head down toward me. My breathing became fast and ragged, I was extremely nervous. He gently kissed me; I relaxed into it as he wrapped his forearms around me and pulled me close. He leaned his forehead against mine, he gave me a small smile as he nuzzled against my neck and pushed me back down, I felt him bite down on my neck which caused me to sharply inhale. I wrapped my forelegs around him and pulled him closer to me; I nuzzled against his neck and gave him a bite back. I wasn't expecting to hear a low growl escape from him. I had to let go of him and tried to calm myself down. “Did you like that?” He asked, smirking at me, I nodded smiling a little. I started to relax a little as I sat up and flared my wings out, he started to blush. I wrapped my wings around him and looked into his orange-gold eyes; I pushed him down on his back. I shook my mane out of my face; I blushed as I looked at him. (Fossil’s POV) I was looking up at the most beautiful Pegasus I’ve ever seen, her lilac wings flared out her yellow eyes sparkling at me. Her long pink mane smelled like cotton candy, she had a small blush on her face as she moved forward a bit; I sat up as she sat on my lap. She wrapped her wings around me, and pulled me into a hug as she wrapped her forearms around me. I heard a knock on her door. I sighed as I really didn't want her to let go of me. “Honey Wave Beats is here to talk to you” I heard her mom’s voice; she sadly let go of me and brushed her mane out. (Bubblegum’s POV) I sighed as I opened my door and walked down the hall with Fossil behind me. “So Fossil hang out in the kitchen, I just don’t Wave to get mad at you” I smiled at him. He nodded, smiling back at me. I went outside to see him standing on the deck. “Hey Bubblegum” he said shortly, my smiled faded. He didn't seem himself; he looked like he wasn't sure what to do. I really didn't want us to fight, but I had a feeling we were going to break up. “What’s wrong?” I asked quietly. He scowled at me. “Well as you know we didn't talk one bit during the entire summer. What the hell is going on with you? Why didn't you talk to me?" he yelled. I was taken back by his yelling. “Excuse me? You're the one that didn't come talk to me, you have legs you could've come seen me too. I have felt that we have been drifting apart for months. I don't know how much longer I can take it" I said quietly. He looked like he was furious. “You have fucking wings! Why the hell didn't you come see me? Were you cheating on me or something?!" he yelled. I sighed, I was just done. "You know what? No I wasn't cheating on you, I didn't want to fucking see you. You changed so much over the summer and it bugged me a lot. I hated it. I don't think we should date anymore Wave. I mean I want to be friends still but not right now" I finally said. My voice was cracking a bit; I was trying so hard not to show him how much this was hurting me. "Fine, we're done, I agree we should still be friends but not right now" he said as he turned his back on me and started to walk away. I sighed, the sting of tears pricked at my eyes. I couldn't hold it in anymore. The tears started to stream down my face as I sat down, I folded my wings around myself. “Oh, honey" my mom said as she ran to my side, she hugged me tightly as I continued to cry. "I hate it that Waves and I drifted apart, I felt it was time to just let go. But it hurts so much" I said sobbing. My mom stroked my mane and shushed me. I started to calm down a little. She nuzzled me. "Sometimes it's for the best; by the way you still have that dinopony friend of yours. He seems like a keeper" my mom winked. I blushed a little. She smiled. I wiped my tears away and folded my wings to my side. "Waves" I yelled, he stopped for a minute. He turned to look at me, he shook his head and kept walking "Hey" I heard Fossil say as he sat next to me, Fossil pulled me into a tight hug, he nuzzled against my neck. I took a deep breath in; Fossil smelled like the sea and Hibiscus flowers it was lovely. I started to relax a little. Maybe Fossil and I could go out, but not right now. I'll give it some more time. "I'm sorry you two broke up," he said into my mane. I smiled at him and kissed him gently, he blushed slightly. "I know I just hate being single," I asked quietly. Fossil smiled. "I know, but maybe one day you and I will be together," he said smiling. We walked back into my house; I sat down at the table with Fossil. "Are you doing a little bit better?" my mom asked. I nodded. "It's okay mom, I'll be okay," I smiled at my mom, my step dad smiled at me as well. "Hey, at least you got this friend of yours" my step dad said. My mom finished making dinner and put my plate of food in front of me. It was Apple and Sunflower salad with Daisy drop soup; I smiled as I took a bite of my salad. "Oh my god mom you are an amazing cook" I said, smiling at her, she laughed. I listened to my brother talk with my parents about school and hanging out with Scootaloo tomorrow. I smirked at him and he stuck his tongue out at me. After I finished dinner Fossil and I walked back into my room and sat on the edge of my bay window. I nuzzled against him. "You are doing okay?" He asked. I smiled at him and nodded. "I am actually okay with being single now, he stopped spending time with me anyways, and I'm pretty sure he was cheating on me" I said smiling. Fossil smiled. We sat there and watched the dark clouds roll in. "I bet Big Mac and Button Mash's mom will be here soon. I'm going to go downstairs" I said smiling. He nodded. "I should head home, see you tomorrow?" he asked, I nodded. "Mom, Big Mac should be here soon to pick up Applebloom along with Button Mash's mom" I said smiling as I opened the door and sat on the lawn. Fossil waved goodbye to me. I sat there watching the sunset and dark clouds move, I saw Big Mac making his way up the steps. "Hey Big Mac" I said happily as I walked up to him. "Howdy was my sister good?" He asked, I nodded as I opened the door. "Applebloom your brother is here to pick you up," I said smiling. "Goodbye Gears I'll probably come over tomorrow," she said running out the door giving her brother a big hug. "Thanks for letting me come over Bubblegum," Applebloom said smiling. I nodded and wave goodbye to Applebloom and Big Mac. I also noticed Button Mash's mom coming up the stairs. "Button mash your mom is here" I yelled into the house, I heard running as he booked it out of the house. His mom laughed as he hugged her tightly. "Button Mash did you behave?" she asked. "He was very good," I said, smiling at his mom. I waved goodbye to them, I closed the door and sat outside a little bit longer. I took in a deep breath, all I smelled was rain and cherry blossoms. I smiled at my mom's favorite cherry blossom trees, and I looked up and saw a flash of lightning followed by a rumble of thunder. I smiled as I made my way into the house and locked the front door; I walked past the living room and saw my parents watching TV. "Hey honey, you going to bed?" my mom asked. I nodded, giving her and my step dad a big hug. I walked up the stairs quietly and looked into my brother's room. He was fast asleep; I shut off his light and covered him up. I kissed his forehead and made my way to my room. I shut my window and snuggled into my bed, I watched the lightning flicker across the sky. Then I heard the thunder, I yawned and closed my eyes as the thunder storm lulled me to sleep.
