“You have a coltfriend?” asked Twilight after the 6 ponies had finished eating some pastries at Sugar Cube Corner. They all sat in comfortable silence when Fluttershy nervously told them the news of her relationship.
“Y-yes…” The creamy-colored mare whispered, blushing slightly. Rainbow Dash put her hooves around her throat and gagged.
Rarity glared at the cyan pony from across the table and said to Fluttershy, “I do think this is a big improvement, darling. It was time to stop spending all your time with those pesky animals.”
Always bouncing with excitement, was Pinkie Pie who yelled across the restaurant, “WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE?”
She immediately leapt to the nearest table where a light, blue stallion and a cherry-colored mare sat, enjoying a conversation. They seemed to not see the bursting energy of Pinkie coming as she smacked right into the sky-coated fellow.
“Are you Fluttershy’s coltfriend? You must be him!” Pinkie exclaimed as she stood over the frightened stallion.
Her thrilled face suddenly turned into a dark, looming expression as she realized what she had to do.
“So, you are him,” she believed, her breath close to his terrified face.
“I-I don’t know what-,” his shaking voice was stopped by Pinkie’s threat.
“Well, I just want you to know that if you are her coltfriend-,” she jerked her head to the red-faced Fluttershy and back at him, “-You’ll have to face the consequences.” Her voice was menacing and her pink face was serious.
The stallion was extremely horrified now and squirmed, trying to get out of Pinkie’s death grip.
“You know the consequences,” she said.
He shook his head and uttered a small “help”. The cry had gone unnoticed as Pinkie Pie eyed him and murmured a terrifying, “oh yes, you do.” The poor guy gulped and fidgeted as her grasp tightened.
“I’ll have to-,” The pink pony unexpectedly turned from her awful faze to her normal Pinkie self, “-BAKE CUPCAKES IN CELEBRATION OF YOUR LOVE!”
The stallion had not been calmed down in anyway. In fact, he was even more frightened. One particular fanfic had made this situation a whole lot scarier.
“Pinkie!” warned Applejack from the group of worried friends, “You’re scaring him, like a ghost.”
The party pony suddenly realized her mistake and stepped away from him. She yelled her apologies and tried to help the stallion get up from his fetal position. The light-blue pony whimpered a decline and remained there for a few seconds before gradually getting up.
He was still in shock and sat back on his chair slowly, not making eye contact.
“Um…that wasn’t my coltfriend, Pinkie,” Fluttershy spoke quietly, suddenly finding the floor interesting. Pinkie Pie frowned slightly and furrowed one of her brow. Then she nodded in understanding.
“Oh, I didn’t know.” She shook her head and gazed down at the tidy floor.
“B-but I was going to say that chick-” she pointed to the shocked, red mare who had accompanied the stallion, “-was the one he was dating, secretly. So, he could cheat on you.” The pink pony finally sighed in frustration.
Applejack trotted to the two shocked ponies and gave them a couple of bits. “For yer troubles,” she murmured, pointing her hoof at the door in indication that they should leave in case anything went wrong again.
Still dazed, the couple hurried to the exit as Twilight shouted at the last second, “We apologize for our friend here! It won’t happen again!”
As everypony finally got Pinkie to settle, they started up the conversation about Fluttershy’scoltfriend, again.
“Back to Pinkie Pie’s question, what does he look like?” Twilight asked.
“Well…um…he’s big.” Suddenly, everyone’s face turned a bright red in misunderstanding.
“No, no! Not down there, big…well…I haven’t checked…” she cleared her throat embarrassingly and continued her description. sick...sick ponies.
“He…um…works out and stuff like that.”
Rainbow Dash spoke up and said, “Dear Celestia, be more specified, next time.”
“Specific,” Twilight corrected
“Whatever.”
Fluttershy nodded slowly and resumed.
“He’s very quiet, like me…shy, too…when I found him he was alone and I knew he needed a friend…so, we became friends…and I guess it developed into a steady relationship…”
Applejack’s eyes narrowed at the thought of Big Macintosh, but she pushed away the idea of it.
“…and…um…he…currently lives in my cottage since he doesn’t have anywhere to go,” she explained, saying those last parts quickly. That earned a gasp from all of them and a “what’s so bad about that?” from Dash.
“Um, are you sure this guy is trustworthy?” questioned Twilight. Fluttershy bobbed her head and said that he was very trustable.
“B-but he could only be doing it for…those purposes…” Twilight stated in a worried tone.
“I assure you Twilight…he’s a very gentle soul…he’d never do anything to hurt me…” claimed Fluttershy.
After some arguing, they came to a conclusion that he was a soft, loving guy that would do anything for Fluttershy. Yay, that rhymes!
“So, what’s his name, darling?” The question was simple, but very hard for Fluttershy to answer.
“He’s…um…his name is…I can’t tell you…” Twilight raised a brow.
“His name is, I Can’t Tell You? Geez, that’s a long name. I wonder who named him that. Was it his mom or his dad? His aunt or his uncle?Grandparents?Godparents?Friends? Waffles? I want some waffles,” jabbered Pinkie Pie.
“No waffles, Pinkie,” Applejack firmly said.
Twilight asked, “So, why can’t you tell us his name? Is he in trouble for something? Did he commit a crime?”
Fluttershy waited a few seconds before saying, “Well…he…doesn’t have a name.” That was a lie.
“He’s an orphan and no one took care of him so he had to take care of himself. None of his family was there to name him. I don’t think he likes having a name. It’s like labels to him. That’s why he doesn’t like it when I call him my coltfriend,” she lied.
It seemed to be reasonable. Silence filled the room as everyone was thinking. The yellow pony glanced down at her new watch. “Oh…I have to go guys…I’m late…for my date.” She moved off the chair and walked out of the door.
“Late for my date; pshh, so punny,” said Rainbow Dash in her tomboyish manner.
“That wasn’t a pun,” Twilight specified.
“You mean the whole, late for your date thing?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh.” Note to self: Erase pointless conversation
Applejack relaxed and muttered, “I’m so glad it wasn’t Big Macintosh, or else I’d have to give him ‘the talk’.”
Fluttershy arrived at her cottage and opened the wooden door. The animals were out and about, scattering around the room and bouncing from place to place. She made her way to the spare guest room and opened the door. There, sat a giant boulder that seemed like it was waiting for the pony all day.
“Tom!” she cried as she threw her hooves around the rock. It was so perfect. And then one thought occurred to Fluttershy.
I am so lonely.
