I was totally sceptical when I first heard about my little pony. It was fifth period that that day at merit college prepatory academy. Her name for the sake of this story was saidi Jones. If your reading this we are still friend. Now you could be asking why I would throw that last bit in. Well, she showed me that friendship is magic. So lets go back a little bit maybe as far back as the previous year.
I have always liked my hair long. I've also always been super Larry. I've limed Pokemon and zelda and other porky things forever. In taller than most people my age but the older I get the less that seems to be true. I was also always just on the edge of clicks and just a drifter. Today. I was sitting in one of those double door entryways at schoolwhen what's his name.... Lets go Jake. So Jake come in to the entryway as I sit eating gross pizza. My lunch was pizza that day. I had only a few friends from two or three groups. Today I could tell you, yes, it is because I was overly hyper and annoying. At first sight that was all anyone would notice. Like this Jake I told you about. He was a Dick! Instead of being nice and going through the door that wouldn't hit anyone. He opens my door and hits me with it. Now the first time anyone would attribute to accident right? What about a third or fifth? Now, like the impulsive child that I am, I kicked the door. It hit him in the leg actually fairly softly. He gave me a mean look. I couldn't escape now. He bumped me again and mocked me by saying
"What are you going to do kid, slap me with your pizza?"
In that moment I made a cleche, rash, and immature decision. I slapped that ass hat with my pizza and smeared it down his shoulder. In that moment I was not ever going to think of friendship or values such as kindness. Neither was he. He smacked that pizza away from me so fast that I had no time to react to his other hand coming for my neck. He grabbed me and slammed me into the wall. Not choking but holding me up. I was shocked as he asked me what I had to say about his new shirt.
"Let go of me," I said. I think there was a fuck in there.
My friend, one of few that I had, stood up then and yelled "Fucking let go of him!"
We all ended up at the office. My friend and that deuce Jake were suspended. She was suspended for saying fuck.i defended her as much as I could but to no avail. I don't even know if I ever saw her again.
That last part is why this is important to my life. Before I became a brony i wasn't a good friend. When I look back on my life before that simple little book opened, before twilight reacted to those three pony the same way I would, before a simple crush lusted me into giving a kids show a serious shot, I didn't know what friendship was. Saidi was that crush.
Even after I became a brony I still wasn't a great person. I gave up on myself a lot. I would go on to start soon many things in and outside of the fandom. In the end all but one of those I have given up on or drifted away from. Even some of the people I have forgotten and left behind. I start this in memory of them. To pay homage and say I will remember you with this and remember you fondly.
Now back to fifth period.
Fifth period was computers back then.......
Fifth period back then was computer class. I loved computers because he gave maybe one assignment per two weeks. It was free time. One day me and my friend saidi, like say Dee, Jones and I were sitting there doing nothing important. Really it was the same as always. We would goof off on our computers and look at random crap. Most of the time we were on the taste of awesome. We were trying to find something new to do when she decided to find the name of the naked mole rat from Kim possible. We were debating the coolest names for pets. When she looked it up it said she couldn't because her search contained the word naked. A few minutes of laughing later I was back on the taste of awesome. Suddenly she said hey look at this. She had searched yuri and the school security system had let it go through. Again we were laughing. Words the end of class we were talking about our after school plans. I had none until....
"If you want you could watch this great new show."
"I already have this anime I want to finish."
"So? Just watch the first episode its a two parter but so worth it. Its still on the first few episodes." she persuaded.
"What is it then?" I said.
In that moment my life began a journey that would challenge me harder than many people would expect. "My little pony, friendship is magic," she said. These three word would lead me to post some of the worst and some of the best memories I have on a website five years from then. These words would go with me into the lowest of lows and help pull me out again. They would create a fandom that would lead me to type this very sentence at about midnight while I listen to a music artist called foozogz.
"No way. That show is old, girly, and probably creepy. I might watch it when I come over but otherwise no way," I said.
"No they redid it, its accutally cool now," she said.
"Maybe another time," I said.
"Okay look, if you watch it and still like it you can say anything you want to me about it." she offered.
I gave up right there. I didn't watch it. God no i didn't. Why would I? I could shit talk the show right then if I really wanted to. I guess you could say it was a test of friendship, and I failed at first. I gave up and didn't watch. I didn't Watch the show for something like two weeks. Then came the ultimatum, if you will.
Saidi jones, in my opinion, one of the cutest girls in school. There was only about thirty girls in my school but she was nice. We oftenly shared interests and hung out. After she first suggested my little pony for the fist time it seemed like she would ask everyday if I had watched it. Truth be told i had finished the anime I was watching a few days after she first asked. I had no reason to watch this girly show. Why bother right? Then, we had some sort of dance coming up. Now, I might be mixing up details and confusing the specifics, but I believe we made a deal that if I watched the show by then that I would get a kiss. So I did it. I, however didn't have a computer. I had a piece of crap smartphone that Barry functioned properly. Still have it too. So in the cold month of whatever I watched that book open. I saw how true friendship could in rare cases be instantenious, miraculous, and heartfelt. A chapter of my life closed to make room for a whole new person. And the next day after fifth period computers class. I kisses my biggest crush ever. Saidi jones!
