//-------------------------------------------------------// What is Love? -by AlphaPinkie- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// What is love //-------------------------------------------------------// What is love “Twilight?” ASked a sad Pinkamena as she creeped into her friend’s study. Pinkamena’s hair was down from the rain that pounding down upon Ponyville. The rest of her fur was wet as well, but unlike usual she didn’t just shake it off, she accepted it as part of her. “Hey Pinkie.” Said a concerned Twilight, as she set down her book. “What’s wrong?” “I...I need to talk to you about something.” Pinkie sat down on the rub that was just in front of where Twilight was sitting. “What is it?” “Well...what is love?” Pinkie took a deep breath, and attempted to compose herself as tears began to roll down her face. “I just got back from the bakery after having a talk with...a friend, and he said that we should stop seeing each other. He said that he enjoyed our time together, and had a lot of fun. He said that he loved being around me, and I could see it in him at one point. He would do anything to see me smile, and granted that wasn’t very hard, but still. When I was sad, he would bring me a little pink cupcake. It was never from the bakery, he would bake it himself. Then he would sit around, and let me cry into him. When I was happy, he would take me out into the fields and we would run around and have fun, and sometimes go out for food...and sometimes have...special fun. You know...that kind of fun? He loved me, he said he was in love with me, and he said he would never leave my side. Today though, he admitted to loving me, and I was really happy like I usually am when I hear those words, but he said he thinks he loved me for the wrong reasons. He said it may have just been the...special fun...driving him to love me, he says he may have never really loved me, but just tricked himself into loving me for the fun. He apologized, but I don’t think he was sorry. I think he just used me.” Twilight interrupted, “That’s awful Pinkie I…” “I’m not done.” Pinkie said back with the tears beginning to flow. “The worst part is, is that I want that to have all been a bad dream. I want to wake up, and see him in my bed again. I know it won’t happen, but I just want for him to have really loved me for more than my body. This wasn’t the first place I came after he said that a few hours ago. I went home, and began crying into my pillow. I thought about hurting myself, but that would have been bad. I just wanted the pain to go away, and in my thoughts something happened. I began thinking of my childhood...back on the rock farm. All I would do is carry rocks around a plot of land, and load them up to sent over to construction companies. It didn’t matter how much I did though, my parents never appreciated my efforts. I even did more work than my sisters a lot, and they got praise while I was ignored. The one time they ever showed kindness towards me was when I threw them a party after seeing that stupid double rainbow. That just struck me. The only time any of them showed any kindness to me was when I did something for them. The second the party ended, I left, and I think I heard a faint sigh of relief, and even that small amount of happiness I had gotten from doing that was ruined by that. I would have come back if I hadn’t thought myself to be a burden. The first time I was ever shown any kindness was when I moved here, and met Applejack and Rainbowdash, and eventually you…” Twilight was speechless as she looked upon a Pinkie Pie in tears, partially curled up into a ball on the floor. “I don’t know what to say.” Twilight said as a single tear rolled down her face from seeing her friend in such a condition. The thoughts of what she has been through, not even the breakup, as bad as that was, but thinking you were a burden to your parents, and feeling unloved by the very ponies that brought you into this world. That must have been awful. “Answer me this then, what is love? As far as I know, love is a lie.” Pinkie Pie giggled amidst her tears. “Love...love is that feeling you get inside when you meet that special pony that you want to spend the rest of your life with. It’s that feeling when you realize that you have met that one that will give you anything you want, and everything you need.” “I know that but…” “I’m not done.” Twilight Smiled at Pinkie Pie as she stood up, and attempted to help her friend up. Pinkie was reluctant, but she did stand up to keep at eye level with Twilight as the little purple alicorn opened her mouth again. “Love is that thing in the back of your mind when you make any decision. Will you help your friend by giving them the answers, or will you help them by assisting them in finding them. Love dictates the answer. Love is also the feeling when you look at a lily, and it gives you that warm smile you so seldom have. Love to me is simple. It’s that little feeling in your heart that gives you your passions and tells you which ponies are friends, and which are family. The people who don’t love you, they shouldn’t bother you, because if they don’t love you, heck, if they don’t even like you, they don’t deserve your love and attention. Your family though, they didn’t hate you. The stress was probably too much, and they got overwhelmed. I believe deep in my heart that your parents loved you very much, and didn’t know how to show you. That sigh of relief that you heard, was probably a cry that they were losing their little girl. Pinkie, if no one else, I love you. I always will love you. You’re like family to me. You can stay here for the night if you want to.” Twilight smiled warmly at the now sobbing Pinkie, and wrapped her hooves around her. Pinkie started to stop crying, “You’re like my sister Twilight. Please, no matter what happens, remember that.”
