The pink party pony tossed about uncomfortably in her bed. The thoughts in her head competed with the sleep she so desperately wanted, but they kept a strangle hold on her consciousness. She thought that after the stress of planning Rainbow Dash’s birthday party she would be exhausted enough to sleep for days, but there was something that plagued her mind. The image of Cheese Sandwich kept popping back into her head every time she could manage to fall asleep. She wasn't angry at him for competing to plan her friend’s party; in fact she was impressed someone could party as hard as her. Along with that respect though she had other feelings that nagged at her, but she couldn’t figure out what they were.

“What is this weird feeling I’m having?” Pinkie thought as she sat up in her bed not being able to stand her hopeless attempt at sleep any longer.

“It’s not my Pinkie sense, or if it is it’s a new one I’ve never felt before,” she said, easing around the corner cautiously on her way to the wash room.

The soft glow of the moon light flooded the bathroom and she looked at herself in the mirror. Pinkie inspected the dark rings that had manifested under eyes the past week that coalesced with her sleepless nights, and they were getting harder and harder to hide. She was able to cover them up with make up every day but concealer only goes so far. The pure exhaustion was the biggest problem, considering her usual cheery and upbeat attitude was converting into sluggish and irritable. She made eye contact with the reflection and racked her brain trying to figure out what was causing her insomnia.

“I can’t go on like this,” she whispered to herself, “but all I know is that I can’t stop thinking about Cheese Sandwich.”

But what was it about him that she couldn’t get over? His infectious smile, his goofy laugh that always spread like wild fire whenever it started, his brown hair that at pristine on his head like a pile of chocolate frosting.

“Wait”, she thought as she put all these things into perspective, “I never noticed any of that stuff until now.” It slowly dawned on Pinkie that she liked almost everything about the nomadic party pony.  In fact she not only liked all of these things, but she loved them, she actually loved everything about him.

She splashed water in her face from the sink, trying to slow all the thoughts in her head that had invaded the minute she pondered the word love.

Pinkie started the dark lonely walk back to her room, her legs going off of muscle memory because her mind was elsewhere.

“How do I know if I really love him?” she questioned silently as she closed the door to her room.

“Ponies get crushes everyday and they pass; besides it’s not like I could ever know where he is to confront him about it.” This was true, considering his path was an erratic one with him being called where he’s needed with no rhyme or reason. But she couldn’t help feeling that this was something more.

Pinkie crawled back into her bed and continued to tell herself that there was no way that they could be together, but as she drifted off to sleep she lightly cried for the fact she thought may not ever be fully happy again.

Pinkie eventually got over her bout of insomnia and got her life back to normal, but whenever she saw a stray balloon in the wind or a single chocolate cupcake on plate all her feelings would flood back. Parties now would still bring her joy to her but always a tinge of pain knowing she may never party with the one she was supposed to be with.
