//-------------------------------------------------------// Equestrian Studies 101 -by Oathseeker- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Lesson 1: Kirin //-------------------------------------------------------// Lesson 1: Kirin Good morning class its is nice to see you all here! I guess you all are excited to begin learning about the different species in Equestria. So lets skip roll call and just jump right in shall we? Ok! So today we are learning all about my species first, Kirin. The word is pronounced [kee-rin] but spelled Kirin.  Kirin are the offspring of a dragon and a pony, but it can't be just any pony or any dragon. A Kirin can only be born by a male dragon and a female pony. If it was reversed you would get a Qilin, we will talk about about my species close relitive in a later session.  Now...back to the lesson! Ok... So some of us are often mistaken with bat ponies due to our appearance which, is understandable because we both have wings that are webbed instead of feathered wings like a normal pegasus. The other similarities are: we both have fangs, we both have cat like eyes, and we both have adjustable night-vision. Unfortunately that is were the similarities end but don't worry we are just getting started! OK class i hope your are keeping up because we are not done yet! Now we are going to move on to the differences about the Kirin and what separates us from bat ponies. Now most of these differences are internal and are near imposable to detect with out medical equipment, others are external and are easier see. I'll start the external differences. The first is that the Kirin with wings don't have appendages on the wings like bat ponies do. Kirin have spikes on the wings for offensive proposes. The second difference is that some Kirin have scales. The reason I said some is because, that there are technically 3 different subspecies of Kirin. Yes... you heard me right I said 3 those subspecies are cataloged as Dragon dominate (DD), pony dominate (PD), and perfect balance (PB). I will touch in these later but for now lets get back to the differences. Before you ask if I have scales, l'll just tell you that I do. Being a perfect balence Kirin my scales are hidden under my coat. Unlike most ponies who have 2 layers of natural protection, perfect balence Kirin have 3. A ponies natural protection consists of the ponies coat and there skin but, for a perfect balence Kirin there are a set of dense fish like scales below the coat but above the skin. These scales are just as dense as a dragons scale which means that they can't be cut by a normal blade but, can be cut by ether a dragon slayer blade or an Alicorn level magical blade.  There is a down side to have small scales. The down side is that perfect balence kirin are vulnerable to  blunting weapons and anything that causes impact damage. An added upside to having scales the size of fish scales is that they have the flexibility of a second skin also, these scales are the same colour as the coat of the Kirin. As you can see my coat is a dark forest green which means that is the coluor of my scales as well. Now for the other Kirin these facts are extremely diffent. A pony dominate Kirin simply has no scales and therefore have just the two layers of natural protection. Things are a little different for a dragon dominate Kirin as they are covered from head to claw with scales that are about 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. These scales are just as protective as my scales but offer less natural flexablity but, with proper training Dragon Dominate Kirin can over come this. Dragon dominate Kirins are unable to grow fur of any kind on their scales due to the the scales being so thick. Another reason for lack of flexibility is that the scales are tightly woven leaving less then an inch actually showing. Due to this the dragon dominate Kirin is less resistant to impact damage. Dragon dominate Kirins defences aren't as good as they sound because, near the spine they have a 2 inch strip of skin that runs from head to tail and it can grow fur. Now the last diffence is that all Kirin have heat vision. Ok... I know what your thinking and NO...Kirin cannot shoot beams from our eyes! Instead we can see heat and right now I can tell that your all embarrassed because, I can see all the heat is in your checks! Remember I said that there are a couple differences that you can't see without the proper equipment? Well this is one of them! The others are are night vision which we can turn on and off, also we can turn our eyes from cat eyes to pony eyes at a whim. Here, here check it out....... Hahahaha.... I just love those shocked experetions! Ok I last thing we have fangs and some dragon like teeth and, all Kirin can manipulate one of 6 elements. Tho there has been some cases there Kirin have been able to use all of them.               Ok...getting close to finishing this lesson so just bare with me! Hey! You in the back! Wake up! We are almost done hang in there. So you all know how all ponies have various degrees of magic right? Well so do dragons...sort of. This energy is more ...well engery based then magic based we will touch on the differences when reach the respective lessons  So for now we will call the dragons energy Draconic energy and the ponys energy magic....obviously. Believe it or not but these two energy snare a big part of the Kirin development processes and decide what subspecies of Kirin will be born. Other factors that will decide the type of Kirin is how potent the energies of the parents are. Ok so here is were thinks get confusing so please try to bare with me ok? Alright, so the main factor of what type of Kirin is born is by how much of the energies are present in the embryo. This percentage of energies is always changing during the first three months of pregnancy, after that the numbers only fluctuates up and down by 3 percent no more no less. The percentages will never go above 99 percent or below 1 percent on ether side. Ok now for the most difficult part...how should I put this? Oh! I Know! Ok so think about a gage with Draconic energy on one end and magic on the other end. Now imagine a bar that is moveing up and down on the bar but, it never gos completely to the end. This is bar is the percentage of energies that will determine what subspecies of Kirin is born. If the bar stops anywhere between 99 percent and 48 percent on ether side the the Kirin that is born will be that type dominate. If it stops any where between 48 and 50 percent on ether side (which is rare) then the Kirin born will be a perfect balance Kirin. So yes I am extremely lucky to be born a Perfect balence Kirin and I am very happy about it. Going back to the lesson now.  If this does happens then that mare (assuming she has another foal with the same dragon) will have nothing but perfect balence Kirin. Ok now if a perfect balence Kirin is born then the two separate energies will actually mix into a stronger singular energy simply called Kirin energy. This energy is special as is has a special effect on the perfect Kirins scales! This effect is more like a change and a boost to the Kirins natural element. Now before you say anything since there are 6 base elemental dragons there are also 6 different types of Kirin these elements are : Fire, Water, Wind, Earth/Rock, Electricity, and Plants. The way the energy changes a Kirins is by satiating the perfect balence Kirins scales with the elemental energy that it is aligned with. These changes halls with in seconds so, in one second a Kirin can look like a bat pony to looking like a dragon with a scaled version of a pony head. The change it self looks like the element is washing over the Kirin. During the change the coat vanishes and the scales grow and change to resemble the element that it is aligned to and, the Kirin will look closer to that of a dragon dominate Kirin except it is cover head to claw with scales. This changes are called battle forms and as the name suggests they are commonly used in combat. The forms stay the same colour as the Kirin but, if it's wields multiple elements them the Kirins form will be a shade of the elements colour.  Each form look differnt with each Kirin but, there are some feature that consists between the each Kirin. Common features on a Fire Battle form are scales that resemble red versions of the Dragon dominates scales, red dragon like wings and horns of some formation. Water Kirin battle forms are some shade of blue and some consisting features are: gills fins ad some times flippers instead of legs.  The Wind Kirins Form will be colour to the type of bird the form will take after. So for this form there are not that many re-accruing features. Feature that is re-accruing thing is that they will have feathers on top of their scales and will have feathered wings instead. The Earth/Rock battle form will be some type of grey or brown depending on what type of rock replaces the coat apon transformation. They will also have some type of blungoning rock formation near the top of the tail. The Kirin will also lack wings as well. I know that is is a lot of information but please stay with me we are almost done. Wait ...is he? Yes he is... You in the back! Wake up! We are almost done! Sorry about waking you up princess but we are almost done so let's get back to it shall we? Right....now an Electric Kirins form will ether be black and white or, black and yellow! The reappearing features on this one is: Long spikes for conducting electricity and wings with spikes instead of webbing. These Kirin can fly by having electricity flow from spike to spike in the wing to create an electrical webbing to fly with. The final battle form is the Plants battle form. This battle form is any shade of green much like mine shade but I am a rare version of a Perfect Kirin because I can control all 6 elements to a degree. Oh look...hahaha those shocked faces are back. As much as I'd like to soak it in I promised sleeping beauty in the in the back there that I'd be done soon so let's finish up. The reappearing features are: the Kirin having grass with various plant life growing on its body and, unfortunately that all have butterfly like wings that are made of dew and gossamer. It is the most embarrassing thing to have if you are a stallion like me. You get called a lot of hurt full names. Now that wrapes up the perfect Kirins now...let's move on to the last two but don't worry they are short. The first is a dragon dominate Kirin. This Kirin can some times have horns or wings or nether it all depends on the mother. There are two feature of a Dragon dominate Kirins that all of them have and that is paws where hooves should be and a dragon like tail. They are the only ones to have these features except when a perfect Kirin is in a battle form. And finally the Pony dominate Kirin. This Kirin looksmostly like a bat pony but, some can have wings horns or nothing again it depends on the mother. If this Kirin has a horn it is capable of using magic to a curtain difficulty. Alright final thing on Perfect Balance Kirin and that is that they can only wings and can not have any type of horn.              And that class is everything you need to know about Kirins. If there is anything. You need to talk to me about I'll leave my contact info on the chalkboard but for now ..... I'll see you next class and class DISSMISED! //-------------------------------------------------------// Introduction to the class //-------------------------------------------------------// Introduction to the class Ah, hello class my name is Light Ray and i will be teaching you all about the residents and creatures all round Equestria. From Dragons to unicorns, Pegusai, to earth ponies and even Alicorns. Uh.......Is there a reason you are looking at me like you seen a ghost? O.... wait you have never seen a pony like me before have you? Well for your information in not a bat pony I am Kirin. I know we look a like but there are a lot of differences between are two species. Unfortunate we don't have time right now to get in to it but, i will make our first lesson then. Well.... it appears we are out of time i will see you next time. Class dismissed!
