Because sometimes our dreams are what drive us. Sometimes the thing that keeps us going can turn out to be the most important thing in our lives, and sometimes it can redefine them at its whims. Sometimes, running after the impossoble produces results, but sometimes those results aren't at all what we expected, or maybe even wanted.

In other words, Lyra finally meets her human and discovers exactly why she always felt such an attraction to their mythology. She'll never be the same again.
