Super Deluxe Muffin Delight Mach TEN Version 2.0
Berry Muffin was busy getting everything ready for that morning of baking. On a typical day, blue earth pony with a muffin for a cutie mark and a purple mane would be up a few hours before sunrise to start the ovens and prepare the dough for fresh bread, scones, muffins and other tasty baked goods; but, today was not typical day for her.
Little did the other ponies know, but she had been secretly writing back and forth with the one and only, Pinky Pie, master of parties and all around crazy baker, who could whip up a batch of cupcakes and cookies in the twinkle of an eye, while singing a song about parties, playing the air guitar, throwing confetti and inventing new desserts, like the 'lickity splitty, banana nut tart over blue berry jam'ed croissants' or 'totally yum, yum, Supreme Cakery Pudding with a cherry on top!'
The thought of those deserts set the blue pony's mouth a watering. She'd love to try them, but that wasn't what today was about. To celebrate her fifth year of working at the shop, the blue pony wanted to create a new master piece of her own that would wow every pony from here to Canterlot. Berry Muffin had to dig deep to work up the courage to write to the pink pony, and was glad she did.
There was a knock on the door. A simple knock, but Berry Muffin galloped across the kitchen as if the fire alarm was going off. Opening the door, and using it to shield herself, she was still very shy of the party pony, she looked out to see a hooded pony. Wordlessly the pony marched into the silent kitchen. Not saying a word, Berry Muffin followed, a little nervous about what to say or do next. A formal introduction would be a good start.
“Um. Hi—” But the cloaked pony held up a pink hoof, staring at the wall clock. The seconds ticked by, and the blue pony was getting more unsure of herself by the moment. Finally, when the clock dinged five o’clock, the pony turned to her and nodded
“Let's bake some muffins!” And with that, the pink pony threw off the cloak, threw confetti in the air, some how attached a disco ball to the ceiling, and brought out her own, custom set of flashing lighted bowls, spinning them on her hoofs. “Are you READY to BAKE!”
Berry Muffin had no idea what to think. This was all too much for her. With a squeak, she turned tail and ran to her favorite hiding spot when something spooked her too much, inside the utility closet on the far side of the shop.
“Okay Berry, you can do this.” She breathed to herself, trembling at what she just witnessed. “You can do this, she's just one pony. One pony who acts like twelve ponies at one. Nothing to be af—”
“Berry?” Pinkie called out through the closet door, her tone a little surprised and hurt. “You okay?”
Sighing, more than a little embarrassed at herself, she opened the closet door. “S-sorry, y-you startled me. That's all.”
Pinkie looked concerned. “Gee, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be too much for you.”
“No, I-it's okay.” Berry Muffin said, putting on a brave smile. “Lets bake.”
The two ponies went to work, making everything for some muffins, Pinkie talking, a little slower than she would have, to keep herself from getting too excited, about what she had in store.
“And we're going to call them Super Deluxe Muffin Delight Mach TEN version 2.0.”
“2.0?” The blue pony asked as she pored the flour into one of Pinkie's flashing bowls.
“Yeah, I made 1.0 last night.” She took on the tone of a deep voiced announcer pony, the kind you'd hear commentating at hoofball games. “Could not resit! Must know if it was just simply delicious or Jam Packed Power in the Yower Taste the Makes you WA—” One look at Berry's face said she was getting too excited. “Want more.” The Pink pony finished lamely.
“I see.” Berry Muffin said, trying to sound excited, but she was more nervous now. She wanted to create something fun, but her shyness was getting the best of her at the moment. “So....what do we do now?”
Pinkie's eyes twinkled. “Lets start by adding some chocolate chunks.” She held up a bag. “A whole POUND of chocolate chunks!”
And so it went on. First chocolate chunks, then peanut brittle, after that some candied chestnuts, and some whip cream, meadow cream, cream cheese, apple chunks, sprinkle, every ingredient, no matter how strange or odd made the blue pony feel more confident in herself. Soon, she was smiling, then giggling at her pink friend, as she made the funniest comments or danced around with a bowl, singing:
“Whip'a'whip,
Whipping it for you,
Got some creamy cream,
That I'll cream for two,
Add sugar, add some spice,
And I'll bake something just RIIIIGHT!”
Berry Muffin laughed, a good hearty laugh. “Where do you come up with these songs?”
Pinky shrugged, adding the contents of her flashing bowl to the main mixing bowl on the stove top. “Don't know, but I get my best songs and treats when I'm with friends.” She smiled.
Berry Muffin blushed a little, to hear that Pinkie Pie, the great party pony and baker extraordinary thought of her as a friend. “I would have more friends if I wasn't so shy.”
Pinkie shook her head. “No, you have LOTS and LOTS of friends.”
“Really?”
Pinkie pointed to the racks of precooked muffins they were putting into the oven. “Every pony who buys a cupcake is a friend. Why else would they come in?”
Berry thought of that. “I guess I hadn't considered that before.”
Again, the pink pony smiled. “That's my secret. I see everyone as a friend. After all, the best times I have are with friends. I don't want those times to end, so I consider everyone a friend.”
Berry smiled. “I suppose that's true.”
Ding!
The two ponies hauled out all the muffins, just in time for the bakery to open. Every pony in town had woken up smelling the wonderful smells that emerged from the little bakery, and so when the doors opened, ponies kept streaming in.
It wasn't until almost noon that the last muffin was sold, and the last pony exited the bakery happily munching on the delightful treat.
“Whew, that was a lot of muffins!” Berry said, wiping a hoof over her brow. “We sold them all.”
“Not all.” Pinkie smiled, and from behind her back, she produced two of the now famous muffins. Giving one to the blue pony, Pinkie held hers up, like she was toasting something important. “To friendship, the best ingredient of all.”
Berry Muffin smiled, holding up her own muffin. “To friendship.”
Happily, the two ponies munched away at their muffins. To another pony, the muffin was a delight, and delicious; but to Berry Muffin the muffin was nothing short of a Super Deluxe Muffin Delight Mach TEN version 2.0.
