Berry Punch: Drunk

Chapter 1: The Hospital

Machines beep everywhere. I slowly open my eyes, but my right eye is bandaged up. I try to move my right foreleg, but it’s casted, so I try my other, only to notice a pain on the joint.. An IV line. Ah, where are my manners? I'm Berry Punch. Local town drunkard and fillyfooler (it's easy to be one when the mare-colt ratio is somewhere along the lines of 5:1).

“Why am I here?” I wonder. Aloud, actually.

“Oh, Ms. Punch, you’re awake.” somepony said. It was Nurse Redheart. Suddenly, my head filled with memories of last night… at the bar. Oh, great.

“You took a pretty hard hit last night, Berry,” she starts. “You broke your right foreleg, pretty much got your tail cut off, broke some ribs on the right, and chipped half the teeth in your mouth!”

I responded, “Um, right. The bar.”

“Yeah.”

There was an awkward silence. Really, it lasted maybe a minute, but it felt like an eternity. Colgate broke it up when she rushed in, half-shouting my name.

“Berry! Berry! You’re awake!” she exclaims.

Colgate leans in and hugs me. Unfortunately for me, the door -- and Colgate -- is on my right. Also on my right are my cracked ribs and foreleg. She hugs pretty tight, too.

“OW! AACK! COLGATE- ARRGH!” I manage to squeak out.

Colgate retracts and apologizes. “Sorry!”

Nurse Redheart explains my injuries in detail. Colgate grimaces when we get to the topic of chipped teeth.

“Berry, what did you get into last night?” she inquires.

“Well, it’s kind of a long story.” I reply.

“I have time. Especially for you.” A small smile emerges from her.

“Well, it all started when I went to the bar…”
