I look over the sand mountains, the sun is slowly going down behind them. The smell of sand, rocks and clay hasn't changed since the day I came here. Our rulers aren't out as much as they should. thieves are always around, that includes me. I have been a thief since I was four, my first catch was one gold bit. After that day I have been stealing about two hundred bits per day. But here in Sandla, one piece of bread cost almost fifty bits. My family lived in a small clay hut just outside the town. The houses here are all made of clay, it isn't really great to sleep on clay but that is how it's been since the day of my birth.
I was fourteen when I lost my left hind leg. I was trying to steal from a wagon full of food, when my leg got stuck in the wheel. They got it stable and I can walk. So I don't mind it anymore.
Two years later I lost my right eye in a fight over a piece of bread. This one colt stabbed me in the eye when he had the chance, he got away with the bread, but I didn't care. I'm not blind there, but it looks nasty. It's literally a hole in my eye. It makes my wonder how it aren't blind.
I was born a brown earth pony with black mane, I keep my hair long so it's easier to steal. I sort of can control it by binding it around what I want. My eyes are green which is rare in my part of the town.
The town are separated to different areas, like where I live is the poor part. And parts where Ginger lives is a rich part.
Ginger is my worst enemy, when we were young she bullied me. She is the one that also got my mother killed. I was watching from the cabin when the guards attacked. My mom had heard them come up the stairs, we lived in a second floor. They broke the door and killed her on the spot, I got away. But when I came back I found that they had killed my father too. After that day I became a thief to feed myself and live at all. Now I live in a loft of a nice mare who is my grandma, nobody has to know. Or they will kill her too.
I turn around and face the town, I have a dream to stop being a thief, but I can't. Ginger is my kill goal, and I am on the top list of bounty. My life is sat on 100.000 bits.
I jump down from my spot on the roof, I climb in the open window. My grandma has given me some food, I can tell by the little basket of fruit. I know it don't make sense, but my grandma helped me she helped me and raised me slightly. I love her, she is all I have now. She loves me too, but neither of us can show it.
I always smell the fruit I get, just in case.
"hm.." I say before I dig in, nothing seem wrong with it.
As I finish the last piece of fruit, I hear a scream. As I get closer to the window, I see who and why the person was screaming. A mare was fighting over her purse, she looked really good. She was definitely rich. I sigh before I jump down to the ground, in this district I am feared.
I walk out in the open, the ponies who tried to steal the mares purse gasp.
"Shit, it's Shade!" One yelled. He instantly let go of the purse.
"Why did you let go dude?" The other asked before he noticed me. "Shit!" he yelped.
"That's right" I say before taking a step forward. "I thought you knew not to be around my area" I say with a grin.
"Okay, okay!" The one yelled, before they took off.
I turn to the orange mare how just seem shocked. Her mane was white and straight, and her eyes glowed in brown.
"you okay?" I ask, I reach a hoof out to help her up. She takes it and gets up.
"um, aren't you going to steal from me?" She ask.
I chuckle. "I already have." I say as I hold up a bag of bits.
"How did you?" She ask as she reach down in her purse to find her bag of bits, after she don't find it she stares at me.
"I'm a master." I finish before I throw her bag of bits, and turn to walk away.
"your just letting me go?" She ask. "your hurt" She says, she jumps at me. I can walk it's just that my leg is a weak point, too much pressure can make me fall, and if that's under a battle I'm doomed.
"gha!" I yelp, as she pushes me to the ground. "Get off." I say plain simple.
"Your leg! what happened?" She ask as she study my leg.
"None of you business." I scream, "Now go before I take all the stuff you have and leave you helpless." I yell.
"So? that just mean they can't steal from me" She point out.
"Nope, that means your a easy target for a kill or money. I bet your family would pay much to get you back." I tease, with an evil grin.
"okay, fine" She jumps off me, I get quickly up again. Before she gets to turn I draw my dagger, and place it at her throat.
"And don't come back" I say, I lower my dagger and cut her at her hoof. She yelp in pain "That's just a warning"
With that she runs off and I go back to my room.
I woke with a bang, something felt wrong. I raised from my bed, well it's not really a bed. More like a blanket with a pillow. As I look around the room, nothing seem different. I look out the window, everything looked right.
"hmm..." I put my hoof to my chin in confusion.
I go down to the ground and check the area, nothing. I look around more, everyone as normal fear me and jump behind everything to avoid me. I don't mind them, I think it's funny. they do anything to make sure I don't hurt them. I kill if I want or need to, I will not hesitate.
I turn a corner, but I crash into someone. As I open my eyes again, I see a stallion. He was a light blue unicorn with blond and brown mane. His mane was short, parting in two around his horn, and his back mane was tied up in a short ponytail with a black band. I look around him and see his cutie mark. A crown with a star on the side. I turn back to his head and notice his eyes, they were bright green almost as mine, just that mine are dark.
"I'm sorry miss." He says as he takes a cape on, covering his body. "my name is Shining Light, who are you?" He ask.
"I'm shade" I blurt out before I managed to catch myself.
He smiled at me "what a beautiful name, could you help me?" He ask. "I am sort of lost, I'm looking for the castle." He says.
I could only stare at his green eyes, they were so pretty, so deep, so relaxing. I can't look away. I finally snap out when he ask me.
"Are you okay?" He ask.
"huh? yeah sorry" I apologize. "The castle you say?" He nodded "Follow me" I began to walk toward where I knew the castle was. As we come close to the last house. I say "I can't go longer"
"why not" Shining light ask.
"I can't tell you, but... I-I-I" I have never felt so strange, I never had trouble speaking. "I gotta go!" I blurt before I run.
I didn't get far before "wait!" he yells, I stop and looks back at him. "when can I see you again?" he ask.
"I don't know if you can" I say before I take off and don't look back.
