The Chance
Moving In
Load Full StoryNext ChapterI walked outside the door of my new house. It smelled like white chocolate with coffee cream in there, I liked it and didn't like it at the same time. I turned and faced the house again, taking a look at it. A tan, 2-storied house with a pool and enough room to add 2 basketball courts in the backyard. It had a dark-chocolate brown roof with 5 windows at the front. It has a 2-step high porch with a white, twisted railing.
I turned again to see my parents at the trunk of their car, unloading my stuff. I ran up to them, and they turned to look at me with saddened but excited eyes.
"Mom, Dad, can you tell me why your leaving me here again?" I asked them.
"Well. Me and your father are going out of the state. And seeing this place is the safest place we can find, were going to let you stay here on your own. Don't forget to to go to school," she said in an annoyed tone.
"But Mom! For 2 years?! I'm going to be in collage by then! And it will get lonely here..." I said looking at the ground.
At the corner of my eye I saw my dad's expression soften and he put a finger under my chin and pulled it up to make me look at him.
"Son, you can invite anyone over. We'll pay for the bills and we'll send over $50 a week, for groceries and other things you might want to buy. We have to do this job, okay. You have to understand that," He looked at me with sympathetic eyes, " We'll miss you son."
"I'll... I'll miss you too. I love you." I stepped forward and hugged both of them.
They both hugged me back. After a few moments I watched and waved slowly as I saw the car drive around the corner and out of sight.
It took me a few days to unpack, rebuild the queen-sized bed, organize everything, buy some shelves and other things for the house, and buy some food and stored them in the fridge and cabinets. I quickly jumped over the couch and sat down, then I turned on the TV and took a bite out of my pizza.
I forgot to tell you about me. So... my name is Nebula Starstrong, and I'm 17 years old. But my friends either call me 'Star' or 'Strong'. I'm have very light-grey skin, I have brown-red, messy comb-over hair. I am 6'2 feet high with emerald-green eyes. I really just like anything, to be honest. I mean, I like anything that's at least a little interesting or not boring. My mother tells me that I'm caring and kind, but I think she says that because I always like to help people.
I made a reminder to myself that I should go the nearest school to my house, which was a place called 'Canterlot High'. I estimated that it was about 10-15 minutes on a bike away. I have a bike inside of my garage, it's a grey bike with a small light, reflectors, 16 gears, with thick all-terrain tires with white inner-ridges. It has an attachable bottle holder in case I go biking far or something. The light uses three of those circle-shaped small batteries.
As for the backpack I'm going to use for school, it was a large black backpack with green zippers. It had a laptop pocket, two large pockets for text books and stuff, three medium-sized pockets that can be used for school supplies, and two small pockets for that can fit three large wallets. It has two pockets on the side for large water bottles, and the pockets have a thick, water-proof fabric bottom thick enough for someone to poke it with a sharp pencil.
As for the school supplies, I have two drawing kits (just in case I get bored), a reading book of Daring Do and the Marked Thief of Marapore, a bunch of pencils, lined paper, graph paper, blank paper, and a bunch of other school stuff. I don't have any text books yet because my mom told me I would get them at the school. I just realized I forgot something.
I quickly jumped over the couch and ran to my bedroom. I just moved in so I don't exactly have any posters or anything up yet. I walked up to my desk and lifted my laptop up. It was a black laptop with a few glow-in-the-dark orange pixelated patterns on it. I also took the charger, mouse, and mouse-pad and walked carefully to my backpack. The mouse had a few blue streaks that light up when you plug it in, and the glow-in-the-dark mouse-pad was blue with light-blue streaks. When you move the mouse around the mouse-pad, it leaves a trail of cyan with a few seconds. I carefully put the laptop, mouse, mouse-pad, and charger inside the laptop pocket, then closed it.
I walked back to the couch and sat down. While I was watching I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and it was my mom calling me. I quickly tapped the green button, answering it.
"Hello? Mom?" I said to my phone.
"Sweetie? Hi! How was your day?" She said.
"Good, mom- what took you so long to answer?"
"The flights was long. Our phones died, so we charged it at the airport. Before we could call you we boarded our next flight, and they didn't allow people to call on their phones because it would disturb others. And we couldn't text you because we were too far from the phone lines." She said with an irritated tone in her voice. Though the quality of the noise through the phone was bad because we were almost half the world away from each other, I could still hear the sound of that tone.
"Oh, it's OK. Anyways I unpacked and bought some stuff with the money you gave me. I'm also going to go to school tomorrow." I told her.
"Really? That's great! Don't forget to keep it all A's." She told me.
"Yea..." I took a long glance at the clock. It read 10:48, "Shoot! Mom, it's late where I am, I gotta go to sleep early." I told her.
"Aw... I just called you. Oh well, school is school. Call me tomorrow, Nebula. I want to hear how your first day of school was."
"OK, bye mom. I love you."
"Bye... I love you too." With that, she hung up.
I turned off my phone and turned off the T.V. too. I turned off the lights then I walked into my bedroom. I quickly changed into my PJ's after charging my phone. I ran and jumped into bed, causing me to bounce off slightly and hitting my head on the backboard. I held my head in slight pain. It didn't hurt that much but it still stings. I pulled my blankets over me and turned off my light.
I turned on my light again. I quickly grabbed my phone off the desk, and set my alarm to 6:00. I out my phone back on the desk and turned off the light. I pulled the blanked over me again then I drifted off to sleep.
