a short story, about a stallion and his day
Grey woke, and as normal he had a very bad hangover. You see he is a blacksmith with a habit of getting, well more than very drunk; anyway back to the story. He woke in a strange bed, this was common for him to do so, but the part of a pony sleeping next to him was new. He tried to move but he found that he was hoof cuffed to the pony next to him.
“Sweat celestia” he mumbled “how did this happen?” the only logical thing to do was wait for the pony to wake. Grey had not seen the face of the pony he was chained to, but he knew who he didn’t want it to be and to the horror of Grey it was her.
She woke rubbing her eyes, doing so made Grey fall over her chest; she saw this as a breach of her personal space. “Who are you? What are you doing on me! And why are you in my bed you pervert. Oh, it’s you” Grey, now totally lost for words just looked at her; so she kept on going. “What’s wrong? Last night you weren’t this shy” Now Grey was blushing so very deep, his mind racing.
After a while the mare laughed; one at her joke and two at Grey’s blushing “you really think we? HA! You’re funny Grey. You know my mare friend would be jealous. But thinking about it, it would be nice for her to join us” she then lifted her hoof “oh … Octavia!”
Grey was starting to understand what happened last night at the club; Vinyl must have seen he was drunk and got him into one of her jokes. But before Grey could ask, Octavia walked into the room looking VERY un-impressed. “Miss scratch, what have I told you about bringing home strange” she looked at Grey to see what she was dealing with “strange stallions?”
Giggling Vinyl replied “not to use the good hoof cuffs”. This was met by a shocked gasp from Octavia, and from Grey “well, I have been in more. What’s the word? Kinky situations” another gasp from Octavia and another fit of giggling from the DJ.
When Grey got free from the hoof cuffs he was allowed to shower, whilst brunch was made as an apology from Vinyl. “So Grey. You did it again, getting so drunk you wake in some other pony’s bed” he thought “and when you should be stooping drinking”. A shout came from the kitchen “Bruch is done!” So Grey dried and went to the dining area.
Octavia and Vinyl were already there eating pancakes and other delectable foods. Grey had his seat and then began to eat, the first of the expected questions came from Octavia “so, Mr. Grey. What is it you do for a living?” this was one of the questions that despite being asked a lot he still didn’t like answering, but never the less he did “blacksmith”. Octavia tried once more for a conversation “then how is it you came to drink with Vinyl?” Grey just smiled. Vinyl was too busy eating her food to notice what would be said.
“She was standing at the bar, boasting that she could out drink all the stallions in the club. So seeing the challenge I went and ordered some drinks. The rest is hazy” Vinyl had stopped eating at this point to keep the story going. “He was asking for me to beat him, we drank so much in the bar they nearly had to close. He went 10 rounds before collapsing, nearly beat me” Octavia looked shocked at this and once again gave an equally shocked gasp.
“its all true” vinyl commented before adding “he nearly beat my drinking, I still have the record” then it was Octavia’s tern to talk “that is very impressive Grey, normally the only thing that can get her to stop drinking is the word ‘bed’” Octavia winked to Grey, and Vinyl then tutted at the comment.
“If the alcohol didn’t taste so good and you were better in bed I would do both”. Now Grey was blushing deeply, and feeling very awkward “well it’s been nice to meet you both, but I feel I must go”. Octavia nodded to Grey, but Vinyl didn’t want to be left without her new drinking buddy “such a shame Grey. Now who will I give my new record to?”
“I’m not into dubstep, sorry”
“Really? I mean okay.”
Grey then collected the few things he had on himself last night and began to walk to where his home should’ve been; but once he got onto the street he noticed something. He was not in ponyville; he was in canterlot. With no money to pay for transport to get home. This was bad, very bad.
But they were one thing that came into his head, the most obscure thing he could remember; it might just save his flank. He walked up the main shopping avenue where he hoped he would find his grandfather; he was no novice to ‘borrowing’ money but the last time didn’t go so well. In fact the exact words were “I don’t want to see my money buying your alcohol and whatever else you have at them parties”.
But still, since when did Grey back away from a challenge? Never! Slowly, he opened the door to his grandfather’ shop. To his surprise he saw a mare there, and the last time he saw his grandfather he was a stallion. The mare smiled at him “hello sir”
Grey was very dumbfounded, but still he questioned the mare “hi, what happened to the stallion who used to work here? I am his grandson”. The mare looked down, then in an uneven voice “he dead, last week” silence from both of them. Grey just walked away; he didn’t like ponies seeing his emotions.
He spent the rest of the day in canterlot; thinking about everything he ever said to his grandfather. The thing that upset him most was that the last thing they ever did was argue.
