At the royal castle Luna was getting ready to raise the moon. All was going swimmingly until she heard a voice inside her head, one she had hoped to had hoped to have lost a long time ago.
"Kill her" it whispered "Kill the princess. Kill Celestia."
This shocked Luna so much she almost dropped the moon out of the sky.
"Do it. Kill her. Kill the princess. Kill Celestia!"
"Why must you torture me so?" Luna yelled.
"Oh Luna, Luna, Luna. If she didn't have all of Equestria watching her every move she'd do it to you. I bet she'll get rid of you in secret, say you were killed in some freak accident.
"Shut up."
"Oh Luna I just want what's best for you. I only say this because I care. Your like the daughter I never had. Just to warn you I did hear her talking to some pony about it."
"Shut. Up"
"Luna I only want what bes-"
"SHUT UP RIGHT NOW!" Luna was starting to cry. "J-just shut up...please"
"Oh poor Luna. So confused and alone in this world. Don't worry, I'll be back same time tomorrow. See you soon Luna."
Luna sat in a heap on the floor crying.
So it went, day after, day, after day. Over and over, and over. For months and months. Maybe about a year, nopony knows. Luna, who was starting to give in to the voice, was so close to killing her sister. The knife over her heart as she peacefully slept. The blade slightly piercing her skin. Luna had given Celestia a sleeping spell, strong enough to keep her sleeping for awhile. No one would know.
"Stop" the voice said.
"W-what? I thought you wanted me to end her for you," she said quietly.
"Do it later. Make her suffer. She must be awake."
"O-OK,"
What Luna didn't know is that when she kills Celestia The Nightmare shall be free again, and will never leave. She will be able to look and talk like Luna. An exact clone. She will be unstoppable.
Luna told all of the guards to take the night off and not come to the castle for anything. She went into the throne room where Celestia was.
"Oh. Hello Luna. Have you noticed that the royal guards have gone home? Strange isn't it?
"Oh, well I...think that the captain gave them all the night off, or something like that."
"OK then." and she continued to do her paper work.
They stood there in silence for a few minutes when Luna spoke up.
"Tia."
"Yes Luna?"
"I'm so sorry."
"For what?"
"For this."
And with that Luna jumped at Celestia and shot a deadly blast of magic that could burn a thousand ponies all at once!
"What are you doing?" Celestia asked.
"What should have been done long ago." Another blast followed that Celestia wasn't fast enough to miss.
"I- I don't understand,"
"Then let me make it easy for you!"
Luna continued to blast Celestia repeatedly hiting her every time. With one blast as big as a mansion in Cloudsdale she threw Celestia against the wall with a sickening crack. Blood was everywhere as Luna conered Celestia for one final blow.
"Yes, YES! Do it Luna! Set me free!" The Nightmare shouted.
"I'm so sorry 'Tia ,so,so sorry!"
"I forgive you Luna. I Love You."
"I Love You too 'Tia."
"End her!" The voice yelled.
So Luna did.
With a blast like none other ever made by any pony she shot Celestia one final time.
"Goodbye my sister."
"G-Goodby-bye L-Lun-na."
"You did it! It is finally time!"
"What do you mean?"
Luna was suddenly hit by a terrible pain. It shot through her like a thousand knives slowly ripping her apart. She screamed in agony.
"Yes! The Nightmare Returns! The Nightmare Returns! I can feel the power!"
"Wh-what is happening to me?"
She was only met with horrendous laughing.
"P-Please stop." Luna could feel herself slipping away. "Please" But that was only a whisper as Luna slipped away and the Nightmare returned.
"Yes! I have done it! I'm back, and Celestia is dead! I shall finally rule EQUESTRIA! Muhahahahahaaaahahaaahaa!"
"I-I'm s-so sorry. I-I did w-wrong. I'm s-sorr-rry." and with that the last of Luna slipped away.
Nightmare moon stood up and stretched her wings.
"Oh it's so good to be back. Now just to take over Equestria. I think I'll start with easy pickings while I'm still getting used to this. I think I'll go the the place that the recent Equestia games was held. It's islanded, takes awhile for news to get in or out,it's perfect!"
And with that she went to the Crystal Empire. To kill Cadence. To kill Shining Armor. The start of ruling all of Equestria. One by one she would end every princess. Just. Like. 'Tia.

Meanwhile a royal guard heard the noise in the castle and called the Elements of Harmony in. They took the first train there. Running into the castle Twilight, who teleported found Celestia in a heap on the floor a mess. Her mane, which was no longer flowy and sparkely was sticking out like a tree's branches. Blood stained the floor and a fight had clearly gone down.
"Celestia!" Twilight yelled as she rushed to her side.
"T-Twilight?" she said softly.
"Yes, I'm here. What happened? You look awful,"
"I-It was Nightmare M-Moon,"
Twilight stood there for a second trying to take it all in.

Meanwhile Nightmare Moon who looked like Luna flew to the Crystal Empire.
"Cadence thou hath urgent news"
"What is it"
"No one else can hear this"
"All right guards leave"
"Now what is it"
"Celestia is dead"
"No s-she can't be"
"And some is about to die soon"
"Who"
"You" and with that she shot a blast of magic so strong it could beat one of Discord and Tirik together.
Hit after hit. Blow after blow Cadence was lying on the floor, blood slowly dripping from her horn.
"Why would you do this"
"Because who else will put us into nighttime forever"
Just then a guard ran in.
"Princess, Princess! I have dire news! Someone fou-"
"Quick! go warn Twilight that Nightmare Moon is back"
Nightmare Moon shot Cadence finishing her off and turned to the window shooting the pegasus guard who was flying away turning him to dust.

"Shining Armor come quick the Princess is hurt"
Moments later Shining Armor ran into the throne room just to be greeted by the sight of his bloody wife who looked like she had been hit by a thousand trucks one after the other.
"Why hello Shining Armor"
"What have you done!?!" he yelled.
"Oh I just killed her sllooowwwlllyy, but don't worry you'll see her soon."
Then he was suddenly hit by a blast that was sure to kill him in a matter of seconds.
"I-I'm c-coming C-Cadence" and with that he died.
"Well looks like my work here is done" so she teleported away.

Twilight stood in pure shock at the sight of her mentor's corps. Suddenly she heard the sound of teleporting.
"You" the Nightmare said.
Twilight threw a blast that grazed Nightmare Moon on her shoulder.
"Ahh! why you little-" she threw a magical blast that hit the wall where Twilight once was for she teleported away.
"I'll get you Twilight you little pest, and when I do, oh when I do you'll be sorry you here ever born! I'll get you, and your little Elements too!Muhahahahaha!"
