Rainbow Dash had to be having the worst day of her life.
She didn't know why, but everything was going wrong.
First, she had gotten assigned to cloud clearing patrol when it was a perfectly sunny day, causing her to waste time she could have actually used for... something. Anything, really. Definitely not a hooficure. Only girly ponies got those, and definitely not Rainbow Dash, the toughest pony in Ponyville—No, the toughest pony in all of Equestria!
Second, she had decided to go around Ponyville and just walk, when somepony on a scooter happened to hit her. She wasn't that mad; after all, it was just Scootaloo. It didn't hurt that much, but her leg was twisted a little when she was hit.
Third, she had been flying and landed on a cloud.
Normally, that wouldn't have been a problem, but suddenly Rainbow was falling down, the cloud still there. The cloud looked untouched, except for a Rainbow-shaped hold in the cloud. Which she had made. Crap.
She tried to spread out her wings to slow her fall, but she looked back and saw that she didn’t even have wings.
She closed her eyes and braced herself for impact. She felt soft ground beneath her hooves, but she was only sore. Thankfully she wasn’t too high up… She looked back again and saw that her wings were indeed missing.
Rainbow Dash had become an earth pony. This could not be happening, this could not be happening!
Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle had been trying with all her might to cast a simple light spell that would be bright enough to light up her room for her to read. She strained to cast the spell, and a single spark appeared. Before she could even read a word, the spark went out. She shook her head, took in a deep breath, and tried to cast it again.
She definitely felt some strong magic energy. She opened her eyes, and saw that the room had filled with light. She then realized, however, that the light wasn’t coming from her horn at all.
It was coming from her wings.
She slowly moved her hoof up to her forehead, to where her horn was, or should have been, if she had one.
Twilight Sparkle had become a pegasus. This was a problem.
Applejack was working extra hard to make up for lost time. She had started applebucking season late, due to having to take Applebloom to and from school, cooking food for the Apple family reunion, and cleaning up after the Crusaders. The latter took a lot longer than anticipated, because they insisted on ‘helping’ clean up. She stood on the edge of the family orchard, and got ready to make up for the time she had spent working elsewhere. She trotted up to a tree, and bucked it as hard as she could.
A horrible pain shot through her hind hooves, causing her to collapse to the ground. She must just need some rest, that’s all. She righted herself and rubbed her forehead.
Clink. A small pain went through her forehead. Applejack slowly looked up.
Applejack had become… a unicorn? Well, this was new.
At Fluttershy’s cottage, Fluttershy was taking care of her animals. She prepared a salad for Angel, when he came into the room, looked at her, and widened his eyes.
“What is it, Angel? Did someone get loose? I thought I told that little kitten he had to go to sleep.” Fluttershy sighed softly.
Angel shook his head.
“It’s not the kitten?”
He shook his head again.
She sighed and returned her attention to the food, now floating in a yellow aura.
“Eeeeep!” A salad bowl crashed to the floor. Fluttershy whispered a quiet, “Oh, my.” and began to clean up the salad that was again floating in a yellow aura. Fluttershy suddenly noticed the aura and gasped quietly. She moved her hoof up to her head… and felt a horn!
Fluttershy fainted on the kitchen floor.
Fluttershy had become a unicorn. Hm. Well, it does sort of suit her better… but I digress.
Pinkie Pie was, as usual, in Sugar Cube Corner’s kitchen, baking delicious sweets that everypony in Ponyville would love!
“Okie dokie lokie! A box of blueberry muffins, coming up!” Pinkie produces a pink-purple protective protector containing muffins, but all the boring ponies called it a ”lavender muffin box.” She gives it to Derpy Hooves who puts bits on the counter for the muffins. ”Thank you for coming to Sugar Cube Corner, please come again!”
She couldn’t help think about all the ponies’ favorite desserts. Derpy, a somewhat blue-grey colored pony, liked blueberry (even though they’re more like blue-grey berry) muffins. Pinkie herself liked strawberry-frosted cupcakes with a cherry on top, which corresponded to her coat. Rainbow Dash liked the spiciest cupcakes she could make without melting the entire restaurant, made with rainbow extract directly from Cloudsdale, which were blueberry-frosted with rainbow stripes. Applejack liked apple pie flavored cupcakes (Pinkie totally didn’t see that coming!) which was an orange cupcake with yellow frosting and an apple red inside filling (that Pinkie admitted sucking out of cupcakes with a straw multiple times, leaving a mysterious puncture wound on the cupcake in question). Twilight also liked her grape flavored cupcakes with blue raspberry frosting. Rarity preferred croissants, as she believed that cupcakes were not sophisticated enough for her tastes. Hmph. I’d much rather have cupcakes than some dumb croissants, but nevermind that.
While thinking how the colors of her friends’ favorite cupcakes corresponded to their color schemes, she looked down and saw that she was floating. She must have been in the middle of bouncing when she started thinking too hard. Pinkie also remembered feeling a slight tingle on her back. She felt it again and looked back to see if it was a new Pinkie Sense. It wasn’t. Actually, it was two pairs of wings tickling her back. She giggled and flew around in circles. “Wheeee! I don’t know how I got these wings, but they sure are fun!”
“Pinkie, where are you? We have customers waiting downstairs.” Mrs. Cake shouted. Pinkie realized she had somehow made her way upstairs during all that thinking. She trotted downstairs with her wings folded to her side. She looked at the first customer, a tall, blue pegasus colt with lavender eyes. Pinkie’s outgoing and talkative traits diminished when she saw him. “H…Hi mister!” says Pinkie, trying not to embarrass herself..
“Hello Pinkie, do you still sell blueberry cupcakes?”
“Y-yes, we do… Here, I’ll make you one.” She goes into the kitchen, when suddenly…

She carefully folds her wings back down and makes a blueberry smoothie. She places the smoothie on the counter. “That’s three bits for the smoothie. Anything else?”
“No, thank you.” Replies the soft, gentle voice of the pegasus. He looks at the prices again. “Right here it says five bits for a smoothie.” He points to the menu.
“Oh, I forgot to update it.” Pinkie says as she tries to conceal a blush and flies up and changes the 5 to a 3 on the menu over the counter. “There. Enjoy your smoothie!”
“Thanks, Pinks!” replies the pegasus, who leaves the gingerbread-house cafe. Pinkie Pie sighs, when suddenly…

Pinkie Pie had become a pegasus. Uh-oh.
Meanwhile, all four other ponies were panicking. What had happened? Why were they… not them, anymore?
“Twilight, I really hope you have an explanation for this!” says Applejack.
“I didn’t do anything, Applejack! I promise!”
Pinkie Pie flies out of the bakery and cafe. “Pinkie Pie Promise?”
“You too, Pinkie?”
“Yeah, silly filly! Of course! Hey, there are only five of us here… Where’s Rarity?”
A shrill shriek is heard from Carousel Boutique.
“Rarity!”
“This is dreadful! Absolutely dreadful! However will I get anything done without my horn?” wails Rarity, dramatically sobbing while stretched out on her fainting. “Oh, I just can’t believe this! This is the *worst possible THING!***!” screams Rarity, putting more emphasis on each word.
“Rarity! Are you okay?!” shouts Twilight, kicking open the doors to the boutique. “Just… stay calm! It happened to all of us too! Don’t worry, we’ll find a way to fix it!”
“Oh, thank goodness you’re here, Twilight! Now you can fix this with your… magic… oh. Oh, my.” Rarity fanned her face with a hoof and then promptly fainted onto her sofa.
Rarity had become an earth pony. How dreadful.
