//-------------------------------------------------------// A Misty Secret -by Ninbi- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter One - Investigation? //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter One - Investigation? Under any other circumstance Pinkie Pie would be happily trotting through the streets of Ponyville, smiling and cheering up her friends but she knew that wouldn't solve the problem right now. Smiles wouldn't make the crimes go away... She walked by Rainbowshine who was visiting her friend, Colgate. Rainbow was trying to comfort her. Colgate was sobbing and her pink friend was patting her on the back with a worried look. "-It will be alright, Colgate, don't you worry. The Mayor will find who did this, and you will get your picture back." Colgate was trying to be optimistic, she nodded, but she couldn't or didn't want to talk. She just cried. Pinkie could tell that the picture Rainbowshine was talking about ment a lot to Colgate. She couldn't believe why would someone steal something like that. It wouldn't have any value to a stranger. They both saw Pinkie, she gave them a reassuring nod in sympathy. Rainbowshine tried to smile back, but she couldn't bring herself to it. This wasn't a unique situation. In the last few weeks dozens of homes were broken into and a lot of things were stolen. Sometimes food, sometimes personal objects sometimes gold. It was inconsistent and noone knew what the thief was after. Pinkie was on her way to Twilight's library. She was a smart unicorn and she helped Pinkie solve a mistery before so Pinkie was sure the two of them can help the town out with this one. She shortly arrived to the treehouse but she didn't expect to find it in this condition. The front door and windows were wide open and a pile of books was under the second floor window and several new books were thrown out every second. "-It's not here...it's not here! It has to be here!" - Pinkie heard Twilight's screaming from the inside. "-SPIKE! What did you do to it?! Where is it?!" The screams got a little intimidating. "-Oh no! Twilight too?" Pinkie concluded with a sad sigh. But she quickly changed her expression to a more dedicated one. With determinded confidence she quickly run inside to the second floor. "-HEY! TWILIGHT!" She screamed right into her friend's ears. "WHAT UP?" Twilight froze in place in fear. That noise was really unexpected. The second floor was a mess. Even more so than usually. Twilight's bed was filled with books, Spike was hiding under it no doubt waiting for the Twilight storm to die down. The window was opened and the shelves were empty. Twilight threw all the books to the floor as she was searching for something. "-Ah, Pinkie...hello. I don't have time to talk, one of my rarest and most precious books is gone! I always put it right there every time I read it." She pointed to a place on the shelf that now was empty. "-I know I put it there two days ago, but when I woke up today it was nowhere to be found. I always check it just out of habit." She looked devistated. She sighed and sat down on one of the clear spots on the floor. There were books almost everywhere else. "-Don't be sad, Twily! You're one of the smartest ponies I know! I'm sure you figured it out already, but it's the Mystery Thief's doing! He stole your book, Twilight! He'll never stop unless You and Me do something about it. Whatcha sayin'? The dream-team back together Hah? Come on! If we investigate this together we can make Ponyville the happiest place in Equestria again!" "-You're always so enthusiastic about everything Pinkie." She sighed and looked out of the window for a moment. "-Thank you. You're right. There's no use moping around when we could do something. Oh." She turned to Spike and looked under the bed." -Sorry for yelling at you, I was really upset about the book...I know this wasn't your fault." She stood up and started to search through the piles of books on the floor quickly, using her magic. Pinkie was always fascinated by the view of the flying books. "-What'cha looking for Twi?" She asked. "-Um...I remembered having a...THERE IT IS!" She pulled out a blue book from the bottom of the pile and held it up in front of Pinkie. "-Take this, Pinkie. I'll be heading to Canterlot to talk to the Princesses and find a spell that can help us. In the meantime here in Ponyville, it will be up to you. This book has everything you could need. You proved yourself back on the train I believe you can try to solve this case in the traditional way." Twiligh never looked so determinded in a long time. Pinkie was surprised that Twilight actually trusted her to investigate on her own. She thought if she agreed to do this she would want to have her eye on her not to get in any trouble. She almost teared up. "-Are you serious, Twilight?" She asked with a huge smile. "-I've never been this serious in my entire life. The train is about to leave...I have to hurry. Good luck, read the book carefully and don't let Spike to be caught up in this please!" She yelled as she ran down the staires and out the door. The train really was about to leave. Looks like Twilight didn't want to waste any time. Pinkie looked out of the window and watched her unicorn friend run out of sight. "-You won't regret this, Twi. I will find whoever is behind this." She said to herself. "-I mean...I will try." She looked at the book. "Daring Do and the Trace of the Killer" Author's Note I hope you liked it. :) //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter Two - Crime Scenes //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter Two - Crime Scenes Pinkie Pie spent a few minutes to read the first chapter of the Daring Do book. The protagonist was solving a murder mistery in it. The first chapter was talking about how important it is to carefully inspect the scene of the crime. "-Um...Twilight kind of made a mess of this place." Pinkie was thinking out loud. Spike listened to her with a broom cleaning up. "-I don't think I would find anything here... if there were any clues I wouldn't be able to identify them." "-So you will need a new victim with a fresh crime scene." Spike added. "-You're right. That kind of makes me sad. There will have to be new victim in order to find the thief." Pinkie answered and she helped Spike clean up. "-I'll be going. If Twilight or the Princess sends any letters about the case let me know." She told Spike as she walked out the door. "-Sure thing, Pinkie." Spiked waved after her and he went back inside. Pinkie decided to just walk around town hoping she will get a better idea what to do instead of just waiting. She still decided to smile happily and greet everyone she came across. She couldn't let herself or her friends lose their high spirits. "-Hi, Pinkie Pie!" She heard from above. It was a familiar voice Pinkie knew immediately who it was. "-Howdy, Rainbow! Whatcha' up to?" She smiled. Rainbow Dash landed in front of her. "-I'm on my way to Fluttershy. As you can imagine she really worked herself up about this nonsense. So she asked me to stay with her until this all gets resolved." She said rolling her eyes. She wanted it to seem like a chore but Pinkie knew she was probably flettered that Fluttershy thought she can protect her against a criminal. "-That's super nice of you Rainbow! I'm sure you'll have an awesome time together. But aren't you worried that your house will get ransacked while you're away?" She asked with a worried look. "-Nah. " Rainbow shrugged. "-I talked with a lot of other pegasi who live in Ponyville and none of them were robbed. I bet this guy can't fly. It's been nice to talk Pinkie but I'm late as it is and I'm sure Fluttershy is already crying under her bed." She said quickly and she took flight. She quickly dissapeared behind a rooftop. "-BYE RAINBOW!" Pinkie shouted smiling. "-I'm glad my friends are taking care of each other in these difficult times." She thought to herself. "-I hope Fluttershy will be fine. But what Rainbow said about this guy not being able to fly... maybe she's onto something. I should remember that." As she was thinking this she walked by Colgate's house. She must have been robbed recently if she was still so upset just an hour ago. Pinkie decided to take a chance. It turns out she wasn't that patient. She knocked on the door. "-Who is it?" Asked a thin voice from inside. "-It's Pinkie Pie. I'm here to investigate the robberies. Would you mind if I asked some questions?" She said more calmly than usually because she knew Colgate was in a fragile emotional state. The door soon opened. Colgate was in the living room, she opened the door with her magic. "-Sure Pinkie, come in. It's nice to have friends around in times like these." Pinkie heard and she stepped in the house Colgate approached her with a small, calm smile. She looked better than earlier but her eyes were a little pink from the salty tears. "-It's going to be alright, Colgate. I will do everything in my power to help." Pinkie smiled. "-Is it okay to ask what was taken from you?" Colgate nodded. "-It was a family picture from when I was a filly. It meant a lot to me because that was the only picture I had of my grandmother." She looked at the floor poking it with her hoof. "-Um, come here, I show you were I kept it. I didn't move anything...I didn't have time." Pinkie nodded. She was glad Colgate left the crime scene untouched. It was the living room on a small wooden round table next to the window. It was slightly opened and mild breeze came in through the gap. Some papers were scattered on the floor. "-So the picture was on the table...and what are these papers?" Pinkie Pie asked. "-I draw sometimes... these are blank sheets. I kept them on the same table as the picture." Colgate answered. Her eyes still filled by melancholy. "-I'm sure they were scattered from the wind through the window. Did you left it open?" Pinkie asked. "-Now that you mention it...no. I usually don't open it through the night. It was like this when I found it." Colgate said walking closer to the window and inspecting it. "-The thief must have entered through it." Pinkie concluded. "-He took the picture and he either knocked down the papers or after he left a stronger breeze scattered them in the room." "-Oh...what does that mean?" Colgate asked looking confused. "It means this thief is extremely untidy! He either didn't close the window after he left, wich is the RUDEST thing I can think of...OR he made a mess of the room with the papers and he didn't bother to clean up afterwards! This guy is the WORST!" "-Oh, but he couldn't have closed it after himself..." Colgate added. "This window opens and closes from the inside." She pointed out. "Huh..." Pinkie calmed down a little. "Maybe he is an alright guy but I'm still very mad at him!" Pinkie stated angrily. "-Do you know anyone who would want your picture this badly?" She asked. Colgate was thinking for a short while. "-If someone wanted it...we could've asked a unicorn with a duplication cutie mark to make a copy. Noone ever asked for this picture." She said. Pinkie deeply sympathized with Colgate. Since her family lived far away her pictures were very important to make her feel close to them. She said goodbye to Colgate and she headed back home to recollect her findings and come up with an action plan and to prepare for the night watch. Author's Note I hope you liked it. :)
