Chapter 1: A Friendly Deed

It was a frigid night, with sub-zero temperatures, when Fluttershy was returning home from shopping for vegetables, so that the animals that lived with her wouldn't starve. Although, Fluttershy had no clue that it was going to be so bitter and cold, as she tried to make her way back to her cottage as soon as possible, to make sure all of the animals are safe and sound. The windy weather pushed her mane back and forth; preventing her from seeing what was directly in front of her.

Twilight had told her earlier that there was going to be an awful storm that night, but Fluttershy was too concerned on how she was going to get to Sugercube Corner. She couldn't care less for the storm. She also couldn't stand the fact that when she was sleeping that night, she would continuously hear the moans and groans of empty stomachs, pleading for her to feed them. If she had heard any unsatisfied cry from an animal, she would push mountains apart to satisfy their needs.

From where Fluttershy was standing, she could see her cottage, and forced herself to move, even through the grim conditions. If Fluttershy wasn't consistently telling herself in her mind that her animals were emaciated, she wouldn't have made any effect to make it back to her cottage. 'Come on, Fluttershy,' She thought to herself, 'do it for Angel.' As soon as Fluttershy thought of Angel, her eyebrows furrowed in determination, clasping her teeth together in an effort to thrust herself against the wind. Fluttershy gasped in shock as the basket that was strongly encased against her waist began to wither, and break apart.

Fluttershy began to get overwhelmed by the situation, and instantly took off sprinting to her cottage, trying not to pay attention to the multiple vegetables that had fallen out. As soon as Fluttershy made it back to her cottage, she pushed the door open, and slammed it shut, grabbing the attention of the energetic crowd of animals that had surrounded her. "Okay, okay, everypony calm down..." Fluttershy smiled, trying to catch her breath. "Dinner's here, or at least, what's left of dinner." Fluttershy sighed, pushing the small threads of her mane out of her face. "Let's see, oh! Mr. Tinkle winkle, I still have the carrot you wanted." Fluttershy smiles as she balances a carrot on top of her muzzle.

An ecstatic beaver hurriedly ran over to Fluttershy as she dropped the carrot, landing directly on top of its beak. "Are you sure you only want to eat this carrot? I could've gotten you that piece of wood you'd wanted. I don't know if you'd be full after only one small carrot." The beaver shook its head, as it ran off with the carrot. "Okay, who wanted the cabbage?" Fluttershy calls. A small brown rabbit jumped from the crowd of animals, landing right in front of Fluttershy. "I can see that you've been working on your hopping, Miss Sammy." Fluttershy giggles as she gives the small piece of cabbage to the hungry rabbit. "Okay, now, let's see who's next... Oh! Angel! You wanted a salad?" The crowd of animals became silent at that moment.

"Where's Angel?" Fluttershy frowned, "Does anypony know where Angel hopped off to?" The crowd stayed quiet. "Fine. If none of you are going to tell me, forget about your food." Fluttershy of course was lying under her breath, but she needed somepony to spill the beans. After a few seconds, a tiny squirrel began to squeal, Fluttershy being able to understand what it was saying, of course. "You all went outside without telling me? Angel got lost in the storm?!" Fluttershy gasped, her face turning pale. The squirrel quickly stopped squealing as Fluttershy began to panic, the squirrel earning a quick slap to the head from the beaver. "I need to get there! I need to-" Before Fluttershy could've ran outside, she was held back by two baby birds that were pulling on her mane. The beaver began to wave his claws around rapidly. "I need to go out there! Angel could be hurt, not to mention alone and afraid." Fluttershy cried, "But... You're right, Mister Tinkle Winkle. It's too dangerous out there. I can't go alone. But, one of you guys can-" As soon as Fluttershy mentioned the other animals, they were gone as soon as they came. "Oh. I guess I can contact Twilight. She'll know what to do." Fluttershy sighed, picking up her little phone and dialing in Twilight's number.

"Twilight?"

"Fluttershy?"

"I just wanted to know if you're not busy, you could come over and help me search for Angel. My animals are too afraid to come with me, so maybe you can come over?"

"Fluttershy, I'm uh, afraid I can't. The storm outside is pretty furious and, I need to reorganize all the books in my library. Spike unfortunately knocked most of them over earlier, but, I hope you're not angry at me, it's just that-"

"Of course Twilight, I wouldn't be angry at you. I completely understand. I'll just contact another one of our friends. Maybe."

"Oh, okay. I'm sorry, Fluttershy, I really am. If I wasn't busy, I would've certainly came over there to help. The storm would've probably been a big hassle, but, I know I could've... Ugh."

"Don't frustrate yourself too much, Twilight." Fluttershy smiled into the phone, "Nopony's perfect."

"Yeah, sometimes I need a reminder. Thanks, Fluttershy."

"Anytime."

"Well, I have to go- Oh! Spike! Be careful!" Twilight yelled into the phone. "I'm sorry, Fluttershy. Spike is just-"

"It's okay, I'll save you the trouble." Fluttershy sighed, before she hung up the phone.

She knew she couldn't call Rainbow Dash, she wouldn't her to fly in such bad weather, and Applejack was probably helping her family make it through the weather as well. Pinkie pie wouldn't have minded coming over, but the Cakes were probably keeping her locked in. And then there was Rarity. Fluttershy had no idea if Rarity was doing anything important at the time, but, she decided to give it a try calling her.

"I'm sorry to say but, the Carousel Boutique is currently closed today. Actually, the store will open as soon as the storm ends, which means probably the next day. So, you won't have to wait long."

"Uhm, Rarity?"

"Fluttershy? Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't give you a chance to speak darling, do you need anything?"

"Uhm, actually, yes. Can you come over?"

"Come over? In... In this weather? I-"

"You don't have to come over but," Fluttershy sighed, her eyes began to fill up in tears, "Angel has gone missing. I-I don't know where he could possibly be, but I think he could've went into the Everfree forest. My animals are too afraid to go with me, and I'm too afraid myself, so, can you?"

There was a long silence on the phone until Rarity finally responded,

"O-Of course Fluttershy, it wouldn't make me a good friend if I didn't help you."

"Yeah." Fluttershy frowned, remembering what Twilight had said.

"I'll be over there in a flash."

"I don't want you to get stuck in the weather though. Be careful."

"I know how special Angel is to you, and I can just tell by your voice that you're nervous for his well-being. Don't worry about me." Rarity reassured her.

"Thank you so much, Rarity. I don't know what I'd do without you." "Oh," Rarity laughed into the phone. "Don't mention it."

30 minutes later, Fluttershy heard a knocking on the door. As she opened the door, she came face to face with a forlorn Rarity, covered top-to-bottom with bulgy clothing.

"I-I was on my way here, and I'd almost gotten stricken by lightning. Now the corners of my hat are as black as coal." Rarity sobbed, wiping a few tears from under the large pair of glasses that she was wearing. Fluttershy wasn't completely sure if Rarity was crying, or was just acting sarcastic, until she saw that the hat was actually burning up, so she didn't say anything. "So, tell me, what happened again?"

"I had just gotten home from getting vegetables for the animals, and I couldn't find Angel when I called out for him. Some of the other animals spoke up and told me that some of them went outside without my permission," Fluttershy turned her head and stared at the animals accusingly, making most of them turn away. "And Angel had gotten lost in the storm. I think he wandered into the Everfree Forest."

"Oh dear Celestia, he must be petrified." Rarity gasped.

"I know. I hope the weather didn't cause you too much trouble getting here."

"Not... really. Just a little jolt of lightning to refresh your reflexes doesn't hurt anypony. Unless if you were almost hit." Rarity spoke between clenched teeth.

"Anyways, we should hurry, while the storm is starting to calm down." Fluttershy nodded, opening the back door from her cottage so that her and Rarity could start to trot into the forest.
