Chapter 2 The truth

“Doctor is she going to be alright?!” asked Twilight a worried look, for her friend, upon her face. The doctor walked over, a look like death upon his face, while silence hung in the air for what felt like a decade, till finally he shook his head and spoke the most ill of words, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…we tried to stabilize her, but the damage to the wings and the blood loss were too great.........I’m afraid that we’ve had to amputate.”

To say that there was shock and horror in the room would have been a grave understatement, here were six friends who had been so much and now they had to shatter the dreams of their seventh, with this grave news. They knew that they would all be there for her, but at the same time all knew that this was one blow that nothing could lessen the impact of.

There was a look of apprehension upon the faces of all, until each worked up the nerve to say “Thank you doctor, we’re devastated to hear this.”, or some variation of. Each of them, one by one, shuffling uncomfortably through the sterile halls, toward the room that housed their currently incapacitated friend.

What truly catches the interest however Twilight, as while leaving she was the only one to notice a figure in the corner of her eye, standing there as if its very existence willed you not to notice it, a single word came, as if directly into her mind than from any spoken medium, “SOON…” this figure vanishing the moment its word had been received. Of course like many others Twilight would shrug this occurrence off as a simple product of a stressful mind, yet subconsciously she knew that something was out of the ordinary, as she filed slowly, with the others, toward the room of their injury stricken friend.

Entering the ward they saw their broken friend Rainbow dash,  crippled and lying in the hospital bed,  reduced to little more than a fly amongst the spider-web of tubes and wires, coming out of her as life support. As they walked to the bed they finally got a good look at their friend, the tears already welling up before they had reached the room. They may have known already, but little could have prepared them for the sight of just how much damage had been done.

It was at this point that Rainbow regained consciousness, only to be greeted by the chilling sadness upon her friends’ faces, rather than the usual warmth they offered. Curious Rainbow could tell that something was wrong. “Hey guys what’s up, why do you all look so sad?” she said, still oblivious to the situation. It was unfortunate that at this moment, in addition to the looks upon her friends’ faces, that the large amounts of pain suppressants and other drugs began to wear off, Rainbow noticing, as her friends attempted to choke out words, that there was a particular feeling missing, that had always been familiar before. Wings, no longer there, no muscles to move, or feathers to flex, only now did she notice the extensive number of bandages surrounding her body.

“Guys what’s going on?!...this isn’t happening…Please…tell me that I’m dreaming…PLEASE TELL ME IM DREAMING?!” , understandably the situation was beginning to put her into a state of hysterics, eyes already turning red from tears. The doctor walked up and placed a hoof on her shoulder “I truly am sorry, and I wish that I didn’t have to tell you this…but you’re not dreaming…I’m sorry.”  Unfortunately this caused a new wave of sadness to wash over our rainbow-maned friend, as she panicked, to the point that Twilight had to restrain her, in the end becoming capable of little more than choking out her tears toward the moment.

Rainbow Dash. Her pain is like a great sea of despair, which washes over her. In one fell-swoop all of her dreams and ambitions have been taken away from her and she can do little more than reach out to her friends, in this moment, as each and everyone tries to offer her some form of comfort

Rainbow eventually stops crying, due to this it has led her to being very sleepy and tired. The ponies and the dragon walked out as she begins to sleep. Fluttershy had tears coming down her soft light yellow coat, knowing that she is Fluttershy’s closest friend at heart she saw what had happened and yet she couldn’t do anything to make her feel better, but every pony felt the same.

Applejack was by her side trying her best to comfort the crying Pegasus, but was curious and looked at Twilight and as usual she has her thinking face on. But this was no ordinary thinking face she had, it was more afraid thinking. Curious she initially asked Twilight what was the matter. The looks of the other ponies thought “Did she ask what the matter was? Considering we have just walked out of Rainbow dashes ward and she’s asking that question now?” thought Rarity. She too looked at Twilight’s facial expression and that said it all, it wasn’t a normal thinking face.

Twilight looked up and spoke, “Before we entered Rainbow Dashes ward, I….I saw….” “Saw what sugarcube?” Applejack replied. Twilight looked at her in the eye “I saw it. I saw that dark creature standing but…….but then it spoke to me”. Each and every pony looked at her trying to take in what she just spoke. “It spoke to you darling? What did it say?” Rarity said in her posh upper class voice.

“I know what it said but, the way it spoke to me sounded like, it spoke with its mind.” “But that’s impossible Twilight no pony other than you could possibly pull something like that off.” Spike trying to make Twilight to feel better but Twilight had to tell them what it had said. “It spoke to me in a deep voice, it said ‘Soon’.”  Every pony didn’t know how to react to this situation but Pinkie Pie had to do something random eventually but due to what’s been going on, a party wasn’t the answer.

Fluttershy managed to say some words through her tearing eyes but it was the absolute truth and there is no other pony in the land bar one who may have noticed this dark creature and she said “Have you told the princess about this?” Twilight shook her head no. “Then maybe we should ask to have an audience with her and maybe get the Wonderbolts to talk about this matter too.”

Those words that left her mouth touched every ponies heart and they all knew she was right.

“Spike take a letter.” “Dear Princess Celestia we the elements of harmony request an audience with you and we also request if you can get the Wonderbolts in this audience, this is not a small casual get together this is a matter of most importance, to discuss of this dark creature that has been appearing all over Equestria. Rainbow Dash however will not be attending due to a fatal accident and we believe the Wonderbolts should be informed of this too. I await your quick response.

You’re faithful Student Twilight Sparkle.”

“Send it Spike.” The dragon rolled up the scroll and breathed fire and by magic the scroll flew out of the nearby window.

The ponies waited in silence until Spike had burped out the scroll. Spiked picked up the scroll and read aloud for the ponies to hear.

“My faithful student Twilight. I hear your words of concern and I certainly agree with you I shall also inform the Wonderbolts to come to our meeting. I am truly sorry to hear rainbow dashes accident, but please make hast to Canterlot castle, the elements of harmony and the Wonderbolts are the best defence we have in all of Equestria. And I will also inform the Wonderbolts about you and rainbow I’m sure they will be curious about rainbow as they were originally looking forward to have Rainbow join the team.

Get to the castle within an hour I will wait for you.”

Each of the ponies and the dragon looked at one another and nodded.

Twilight using her magic picked up Spike and placed him carefully on her back to begin their journey to Canterlot castle.
