Mask-Prologue

Chapter 1

It was a lovely spring morning, the sun was shining, the air was pleasant, fillies frolicked in the grass and picked up flowers. In the center of Ponnyville last preparations were made for the Rose moon celebrations, the air was filled with noises of stands being built and conversations. In Sugarcube Corner Mr. Cake and Mrs.Cake baked moon cakes for tonight’s celebrations:

”we need more jelly moon cakes!”said Mr.Cake as he held a tray of freshly made moon cakes,

“Coming right up” responded Mrs.Cake, “I wish pinkie pie was here to help us !” , at the moment she had spoken Pinkie Pie hang upside down using a flags string decoration: “party…planning….must…..HELP!!”

and in a flash she  was gone, “she’s got quite the spirit doesn’t  she?” asked Mr.Cake,

” wouldn’t you ?being in charge of the greatest party of the millennium?” giggled Mrs.Cake.

The library was a complete mess! Piles of books stacked up to the ceiling and ink flasks and quills scattered all over the floor. Behind a pile of books peered the pick of a horn, Twilight Sparkle was reading, to be more precise she was looking for information about the upcoming astronomical event, the door opened and Spike came in: “Twilight you can’t stay all day inside there is much to do and almost no time to do it!”,

“I’ll be out in a minute” She called “it’s quite odd I can’t seem to find any information about the Rose moon”,

”There is not much to it the moon turns red and there’s a meteor shower!” Remarked Spike.

Twilight turned around in an instant:”Everything should have an explanation! And if no one else can provide a proper explanation then it’s up to me!” she said with great enthusiasm:”come now Spike we have lots of work to do!”

It was early evening and the moon started to make its way to his place in the sky, in the center of town there was the unending sound of laughter and an overall feeling of joy, oh what a lovely Rose Moon fair it was! The greatest in all of Equestria! Jugglers and clowns roamed the streets offering entertainment for everypony. Dragon pyrotechnicians from the Plains of Fire shot fireworks into the night sky; each stand had a different colour and presented a different game from horse-shoe tossing to Make-Your-Own-Firework stand. The food was outstandingly delicious everything that you could imagine that will be made out of apples was available: apple cider, apple pie, apple bread, candied apple, apple custard and many more. The Cake couple offered a large variety of delicious and delightful moon cakes in any size from a coin to a pumpkin with personalized toppings.

On a nearby hill, which was destined to provide a whole view of the upcoming astronomical event, Twilight and Spike had built a makeshift observatory out of bark, vines and a large telescope.

As the hour came closer all the residents of Ponnyville started occupying the hill, the sat on blankets as well as chairs and waited.

Rainbow Dash, Applejack, PinkiePie, Rarity and Fluttershy joined Twilight in her observatory in hope to get a closer look at the Rose moon.                                                                 “I must say PinkiePie you’ve outdone yourself this time” accounted Rarity                                      “I must agree with you this was excellent” added Fluttershy.                                                              Their conversation was cut out by the sound of aw coming from the crowd as the perfectly round and silver moon had started to change its colour to crimson.

The large crimson moon hang in the sky majestic and beautiful, soon began the meteor shower, long and thin white lines began appearing, what a marvelous sight to behold . Several families asked for wishes for the new millennium but aside from that there was complete silence, everypony gazed up in amazement. Watching through her telescope Twilight noted every single detail in order to complete her research, she peered through her telescope and a soon as she did something caught her eye, it was a meteor, significantly larger than the others, and was coming towards them!

Soon enough other ponies started noticing the approach of the meteor, dread engulfed the crowd like a velvet cloak, dragging her telescope with the help of her friends she tried to encourage everybody to take care and keep an eye on their young ones but she could not manage to get her voice above the crowd’s frightened shouts. Next to her Rainbow Dash shouted something that she could not have heard but she saw her pointing to some point in the grass where somepony had left a filly! The meteor was quite close now and there was almost no chance of rescuing him before it will strike him, Rainbow Dash spread her wings and flew with her famous speed and grabbed him seconds before the meteor smashed into the ground.

Darkness covered everything, Twilight opened her eyes slowly, her ears were ringing and her head felt like a beehive filled with raging bees. She lifted her head slowly and witnessed the grim sight; everything was covered in dust it was impossible to distinguish left from right and the early morning sun made a little difference between up and down. After a while the dust started to sink, and slowly she discovered the rest of the town’s folks still unconscious, a hoof’s touch from behind startled her ,it was Rainbow dash, with the forgotten filly sleeping safe and sound on her back.

Luckily, no one was hurt, and aside from piles of dust covering everything there wasn’t any damage to any structures .As for the meteor, it seemed as though it vanished, no shards were found and seemingly (aside from a grand hole in hillside) it had never struck the area. It truly was an unforgettable night.
